From winter to snow

Happy new year, better late then never. We have all been very busy here at the Ovanbeck camp. But now we are back on track. Sweden is covered in snow and this winter has been the hardest since King Creole was on the charts. But we like it!

What’s going on
The Ovanbeck studio is on the move and will soon be unboxed. That will surly bring some great music our way.

Pocketful is doing hard work on their upcoming EP. Hopefully will we give you a treat from that one in the near future.

With the new Ovanbeck studio ready Heiko can go back into the studio and do the final mix of their upcoming single.

We at Ovanbeck are very happy to announce that we are now a bit Icelandic. From last month we are releasing our music on gogoyoko.

About Sparkling Revisited is a downloadable selection of highlights from the Pocketful debut album from 2005, “Sparkling”. The four tracks mark the beginning of the unique, mellow Pocketful sound. “Don’t Know Much” and “Before the Bullfight” (David Sylvian cover, only available from ovanbeck.com) are both characterized by their sparse arrangements and haunting intimacy, whereas “Sparkling” and “Behind Thoughts (2001 Remix Version)” show more of the electronic approach that has become one of Pocketful’s trademarks.

Heiko is still on the line

But the boys is still on the line. Even with all that trouble Heiko managed to record two new great songs. That are now in the factory being worked on. The songs Major Investment and Mandelbrot will be released in the next couple of months.

Major Investment is a slow country rocker that twist and turns with greed and facial hair. Online solo anyone? This song will be the first of the two too be released in the end of november.

Mandelbrot is a faster and fatter rocker. The song has something of everything like gypsy trumpet, london beat, screaming thom and soft picking. It has got the buttery taste of all the decades of rock. But is it to fat. In the beginning of december we will now.

We have also collected some picture and videos from the recordings of the ep that we will be posting in the weeks to come.

Free song by Heiko “Jesus”

This demo was written and recorded by Heiko at Seaside Studio, Espevik, in late october 2004. Outside the hard autumn winds where ripping and inside the four boys worked hard on their new masterpiece “Jesus” in the comfortable warmth of the studio. That weekend neither time nor luck was on their side. The wind took out the electricity several times and the water flooded the basement so the demo lacks keys, organ and back vocals.

But even with the loss of a full backing track we still think this song is a great rocker and should be heard so today we are releasing it on the Ovanbeck Music Podcast.

The radio spot in the start and end of the song was a lucky recording when Pontus was fumbling with the radio and just happened to find Christ on the FM-band, Jesus.

Mandelbrot with Heiko

Late breaking news
The live concert is cancelled. We are really sorry.

Pontus Jarenskog is sick with some kind of brutal bug maybe the pig flu. He will not join Heiko on their weekend of rock.

The plan
~~We are broadcasting from their house by the lake in the dark woods. With the loss of Pontus the band will do a smaller concert on Sunday.~~ But they will be posting pictures, sound and songs here on ovanbeck.com thru out the weekend.

Free song by Heiko “Waiting Line”

This demo was written and recorded by Heiko at Belle Vue Studio in 2007 and it is the only version of the song that we have. This is even the only file of the song that we have.

The recording of Waiting Line has very sadly and mysteriously disappeared and is nowhere to be found. The only thing that we have left of the song is this torn mp3 file. It has a fairly political lyric so it may have been removed or censured by a bigger power then us. However, we will not be silenced so today we are releasing it as a free download on the Podcast.

Because the files has disappeared, this song has not been mixed or polished so you will have it as it was recorded that day, raw and dirty.

Waiting Line is one of two Heiko songs that has a trumpet recording on it. The trumpet is played by Heiko’s bass player Morten Lindborg. When he recorded the takes, he hadn’t been playing the trumpet since he was in the high school brass band. Therefore, it took a couple of takes. Good work on that one Morten.
