The current public awareness and concept of bungee jumping stems from a BBC documentary that aired during the 1950s on the topic of the land divers from Pentecost Island in the South Pacific. This documentary really brought the subject to public masses for the first time since the discovery of bungee jumping several hundred years ago.

It was Sir David Attenborough (one of the BBC's best known broadcasters and writers) and his crew that recorded the first film footage of the land divers, or bungee jumpers from the island of Penetecost in the 1950s. The discovery of bungee jumping was so intriguing and original, that it sparked quite an interest in the modern western world. Most people had never seen anything quite like it, much less ever attempted such a feat. Seeing the young natives jump from seventy foot stick towers and hurl themselves at the ground was shocking. The fact that they were tethered to the tower with a jungle vine was almost unbelievable.

Because of the impressive nature of this primitive form of bungee jumping, the American show 'That's Incredible!' (which ran on the American Broadcasting Network from 1980-84) actually sponsored a jump from the Royal Gorge bridge. They filmed the event and aired it on their television show, which could be considered one of the original 'reality TV' shows of our times. In addition, an extreme sports group based on Oxford and London called 'The Dangerous Sports Club' began to practice the new sport of bungee jumping. Inspired by the BBC documentary, this group is credited with the first modern bungee jump. The jump took place in Bristol, England, from the Clifton Suspension Bridge in April of 1979. These events catapulted the discovery of bungee jumping into the full attention of the mainstream media and the public's eye.

Within a few short years, the world would see an onslaught of bungee jumping enthusiasts and clubs to cater to the excitement of this new and dangerous sport. Modern commercial bungee jumping operators perform and provide jumping services from a variety of mobile cranes, hot air balloons, bridges and other types of structures. Commercial operators utilize the most advanced techniques and equipment to ensure safety of their patrons. Despite the intrinsic danger involved, insurance companies now provide liability coverage for such endeavors, as there have been few fatalities overall.

Since the modern discovery of bungee jumping, millions of people world-wide have taken the plunge into this extreme sport. There have been many safety standards and strict guidelines set up to protect the public from injury as much as possible. Many permanent bungee jumping sites have even been set up. The first such site was set up at the Kawarau Bridge in New Zealand. It can truly be said that the discovery of bungee jumping has brought an ancient religious ritual into the forefront of the extreme sports culture of the 21st century, and surely beyond.

Karate as a martial art has a significant influence on those who practice and master it. Its greatest influence is building and refining the character of an individual. An individual who trains regularly and masters the skills of self-defense remains agile and physically fit. He or she becomes more mature and thoughtful in handling difficult situations. Karate, if taught in a spiritual environment, gives a feeling to the students of being part of a community under the able guidance of their teacher, always keeping a distinct relationship between the student and the teacher. When a person feels like part of a community, the natural reaction is to develop a helping attitude. The student becomes an active member of the community. Traditional schools of karate treat the students as one family, making it a priority of experienced students to look after the new students. Everyone contributes towards the various expenses of running of the school, acting as a binding force between the students of karate.

Gichin Funakoshi, the architect and father of karate, laid down 20 principles to understaning the meaning of karate. According to Funakoshi, one of the principles is to pursue karate for the whole life. In other words, he meant practice and practice karate without striking others and causing injury to yourself and others until it became a part of your inner self.

Karate is an art which teaches the student to show restraint, to be calm and patient. All students are treated alike and given the same rigorous training so that every one of them is on the same plane. It teaches the student to overcome stress, make constant improvements and build a strong bond and trust among each other. This has a cascading effect in the society as a whole. When students who have learned the arts of restraint and patience interact with outsiders, it has a profound effect on them, the outsiders. Today in the world of short tempers, road rage and other acts of humiliation and pain, a karate student can restore balance and harmony by showing respect, courtesy, equality and fair judgment.

You must remember that the ultimate aim and goal of martial art is to create a strong and a good human being with a stable mind who can defend right from wrong. It is all about conquering the inner self.

Karate Training for Competition

There are people who practice karate for competitive purposes and are making money out of it. This is against the basic principles set forth by the founder. A number of franchise karate schools have opened whose sole purpose is to train children for competition only. But Karate is not meant for competition.

Although the military can still use it for their own tactics, they are popularly known for extreme sports and children's games. The use of parachutes has changed along its development. They can now be used by ordinary civilians for recreation.

Most of the time, they are used in extreme sports. A thrill opted for adrenaline junkies and curious people who have enough guts. Sky diving is not the extreme sport. There are different variations of parachute sports and games nowadays.

Parachute sports are also included in the Olympics. There are many events held for enthusiasts and competitors. They are also included in X games, an event that hosts extreme sports including skateboarding and snowboarding.

Parachute games, from mild to extreme

There are many parachute games for children. Different variations have been made and usually involve children that foster cooperation rather than competition. This includes parashuffle, paraswap, parasight, paraseek, paraball, lucky 7, round the plughole, and shoe shuffle.

Adults tend to take things into a more extreme level. People often engage in extreme sports for excitement and to be able do something different than the usual routine of everyday living. There are many sites to engage in parachute sports. Resorts offer parasailing. There are also skydiving clubs that you can join to undergo training. You can choose to make tandem jumps or get a skydiving course.

Safe and milder forms of parachute sports are paragliding and parasailing. The first one is a competitive sport while the latter is recreational. A paraglider is a free flying type of aircraft that is launched by foot. Parasailing is wherein a person is towed behind a boat while being attached to a parasail. Paragliding does involve some degree of risk but not as dangerous as the following sports.

An extreme sport variant is the speed skydiving. Unlike the conventional method these one entails a skydiver to jump from an aircraft 13,000 feet above ground. The skydiver accelerates vertically in a head first position into a predetermined measuring zone. The measuring zone begins from 8,850 feet up to 5,570 feet. Altimeters are attached to participants during their jump to measure their average speed as they go through the measuring zone.

Skysurfing on the other hand, as the name suggest uses a board similar to that of a snowboard. The board, which is attached to the skydiver's feet, enables him or her to do different stunts. Skydivers can land while the board are still on and slide on the ground or kick it off before landing. Skysuring can be very dangerous and only experienced skydivers engage in such sport.

BASE (Buildings, Antennas, Spans [bridges], and Earth [cliffs]) jumping involves jumping off of fixed objects. This is very dangerous because if the parachute is not deployed at the right moment the jumper will die. Base jumpers need to have sharp reflexes because they don't have enough altitude to free fall.

They need to deploy their parachutes at the right moment because if it's too late may lead to a bad landing that can cause grave injuries. They should also be skilled in parachute packing to make sure that it will deploy correctly and in controlling their canopies for a harmless landing.

Parachute sports can be exciting but it does involve a lot of risk. If you are interested it's best to start with the basic and apply for a skydiving course.

If you've ever had dreams of being a successful race driver, then you've probably imagined a scenario where you actually compete for the pole position on track. But the reality for most people is that they actually have little to no background when it comes to racing, and when put out on track, will actually have no idea on how to drive properly to get the best time. Most street driving habits will result in understeer, whether resulting from braking too late or steering too little at corner entry, so now it's easy to see the need to learn how to drive properly on track.

Learning To Race With Karts

For most, learning the basics of driving through kart racing schools is a good way to actually learn track driving basics, as well as compete in a popular sport which also gave rise to formula one stars. Karting is a very competitive sport, rivaling the best touring car races in up close and personal racing action. In racing schools, with high engine outputs, no suspension, and no downforce-inducing aerodynamics, the driver factor in races is maxed out to the absolute limits.

There are classes of karts available for use during learning sessions. Beginners can start along their karting school lessons with 100cc karts, with two-stroke engines that propel the lightweight vehicles much faster than one would expect them. Then there is an uprated version of kart racers, which can reach speeds of 100mph, guaranteed to raise the adrenalin level of even the most seasoned clubracer.

Driving Techniques Learned On Track With Karts

Using a kart racer to learn and refine driving techniques is not a new idea. With racing schools, one can learn how to master the art of going fast through corners, and the fundamental concept of going fast, the racing line. The racing line is perhaps the most basic techniques, yet one of the most important to any racing sport. The basic out-in-out cornering method is taught, as well as targeting the apex for faster times, among others. Setting up on corner entry and making slingshot exits out of corners is also taught at this time.

Braking And Acceleration Techniques

Of course, along with steering and cornering lessons, the foot pedal controls are also given time so that one can learn how to fully use them to a racer's advantage. Acceleration and braking seems deceptively easy, but actually has subtleties difficult to master. Beginners are trained to brake on the straightaways, and as they progress, master late braking, as well as trail-braking through corners.

The importance of braking points is important, because when you stop braking is more important than when you start, and learning when to open up the throttle during mid-turn is exercised as well. Expert techniques like threshold braking, which is the maximum rate that one can use the brakes without having the wheels lock up, are available for those who have mastered the basics as well.

On the acceleration side, learning when to use the full power of the engine and when to use part-throttle driving is critical to reduce lap times. It seems counterintuitive, but sometimes one actually goes faster when not stepping on the gas, especially in tight corners where control is everything in reducing lap times.

Aside from having track time, there are classroom instruction sessions that teach the concepts involved in racing. Much of the things that students will actually learn on track are discussed beforehand so that they can be prepared on what to do next. With kart racing schools, one can discover the hidden racer within, and perhaps even become the next superstar in kart races.

Here are some of them.

Altitude Devices

Altimeters are one of the obligatory pieces that you would use for skydiving. You may be surprised with the vast variety of choices. However, it is recommend that you use one that's easy to read and can give you outstanding after-sales services. In fact there are ones that even give free lifetime warranty for your device. Such kind of service is especially useful if ever you drop your device on the creeper pad.

Audibles

Even though these are not strictly compulsory, you might enjoy the extra security and benefits of wearing one. Although you do not really have to rely on it, getting an extra altitude warning would be very useful. These are very useful if you're doing various disciplines like: freefly, flat-fly, and breaking off high. This is because your freefall time would vary from one dive to another.

If you want to go freeflying, most coaches wouldn't let you jump if you don't have an audible, since they're such a helpful safety precaution, especially if you're learning how to fly with higher speeds.

Choices would vary from the basic models or the top of the line, which would also act like a log book, measuring your freefall time and speed, and could be connected to a computer to get more statistics. Basically, the more the functions, the higher the price would be.

Helmets

This is yet another mandatory piece. If you'll be buying one, you should consider bother safety and comfort. You should try on as much as you can so you'd find the perfect fit. If you want extra protection, wearing a full-face would be your right pick. It also gives added security if you're wearing contact lenses.

However, open-faced helmets can allow you easier communication, since you're able to see the whole face of the person. Nevertheless, they don't protect your mouth and jaw. You would have to get another pair of goggles for this one.

There are also leather frappe hats. Although they do meet the mandatory requirements of wearing a helmet, these can provide you little protection only from injuries. If you're an experienced diver, these can be an acceptable choice.

Gloves

These are exceptionally useful as protection for your hands. Wearing a pair can protect you from scrapes, line burns, mishaps, and the cold weather. To know if a pair is good for skydiving, they must be appropriately thick to protect you from the cold, while thin enough that you can still feel your handles. To ensure that gloves are suitable for skydiving, you should buy from a skydiving store instead of a general sports shop.

Hook Knives

Hook knives are also important when you're jumping. This is another safety measure, just in case you'll be having a line-over malfunction with your reserve chute. There are various types of hook knives and they all do work. In choosing one, you should get a piece that you particularly like yet can still conveniently fit in your rig. Placing a hook knife on your chest strap is not really a good idea, since it can be easy to lose. Your leg strap is the more preferred choice. To keep your knife sharp, try not to use it for other tasks.

There is something magical about these islands that attract a continuous throng of people throughout the year. You will appreciate its breathtaking beauty only when you see it in person as words fail to describe it accurately. When you reach Hawaii there are two major things that you could do to enjoy this majestic place - (i) relax and bask in the sun to get a lovely natural tan and (ii) enjoy the myriad of water sports offered.

Get Your Adrenaline Pumping With Hawaii Jet Ski Adventure

Do you enjoy speed, water, extreme thrills and fun? Then, why not go for a Hawaii jet ski adventure? Jet skiing is not a sport for the faint hearted. The powerful water bikes can be terrifying to a person who is not ready for its power and speed. However, for those who love racing vehicles and flirting with danger this sport provides it all.

For less than US $50 you can enjoy a delightful and totally unforgettable ride. The agencies usually include instructions and minimum basic training for those who need it. For tandem rides, you need to have at least two people (family or friends) ready. Children below 15 years are required to be accompanied by an adult for these rides.

Your Hawaii jet ski adventure would start with transportation to the location by boat or taxi where you would be briefed about the place and the machine you are about to ride. You would be required to wear a wetsuit or swimming suit, life jacket and helmet for this activity. All these are available for rent in case you do not have your own. Other things that you would need to carry with you are - towel, a set of spare clothes, potable water, valid driver's license, camera and a thirst for adventure.

Once you complete all the formalities you are free to experience the Hawaii jet ski adventure around these majestic islands. One of the most popular jet skiing locations is the Sand Island, South of Oahu in Hawaii. Here, in the Kewalo Basin you would be able to enjoy the speed of the powerful jet ski and at the same time drink in the extraordinary beauty of this place. At every turn there would be something that would amaze you - the scenery, the crystal clear azure waters, the flora and fauna - everything there would make this experience surreal.

The Hawaii jet ski adventure would add a new dimension to you vacation to the Paradise Islands. Do not dare to miss it.

A lot of families love to play Frisbee especially if they have a park nearby in their neighborhood. It seems that many young individuals are into this craze; perhaps the reason why many individuals love this recreation is because it's fascinating in its simplicity.

Frisbee is another term for flying saucers or flying discs. Most Frisbees are made from plastic and its diameter may vary, from 8-10 inches or 20-25 centimeters. When players throw the flying discs, it will fly aerodynamically while rotating. Another player will catch it by hand. This kind of recreation can be compared to rubber ball catching but it's more fun to play.

If you try to shop around for Frisbees, you will notice that it is available in many types. Frisbees are easy to find; you can purchase them in commercial venues and even in supermarkets. For instance, you can purchase disc golf. This type of Frisbee is denser and smaller. If you play disc golf, you will need to follow a certain flight profile. Very good players of disc golf can effectively decrease or increase the stability of the disc as well as the distance.

Another very good example is the dog Frisbee. Dogs enjoy playing catch especially chasing Frisbees and because of this, a specially designed Frisbee was designed. The material used was more pliable so that the flying disc will be resistant to dog bites. It can also prevent possible dog injuries that are associated with rigid materials. There are even Frisbee dog competitions today to test the catching skills of the dog.

Aside from the disc golf and dog Frisbee, you can also find Aerobies which are ring-like discs. These discs look like the rings of Saturn and they fly beyond the range of regular Frisbees. At present, you can also find specially designed Frisbees which light up once you throw them. This kind of disc can be used at night just in case you and your friends decide to play the game at night; it is called flash-flight discs. This kind of disc is also becoming more and more popular especially among young individuals who spend most of their time near the beaches after sundown.

Frisbee is used in different games like freestyle Frisbee, ultimate Frisbee, Disc Golf, Double Disc, Durango Boot, Flutterguts, Guts Frisbee, Disc Dog, Friskee, Goalimate Schtick, Dodge Frisbee, Fricket (Cups), Fris-Nok (a traditional game), Hot Box, Speed Frisbee (similar to tennis), and Extreme Frisbee(violent and less official game). It's quite easy to know more about these exciting Frisbee games. You simply have to search any search engine and you can gather all the needed information about Frisbee.

Log on to the net and find out more about this fun recreation. Instead of allowing your kids and teens to have fun out on the streets, why not buy them a Frisbee. The game can be played in your own yard or at a nearby park. Encourage your kids to be involved in this exciting recreation. Since there are different kinds of Frisbees, make sure that you get the right one.

Shop now for Frisbees in your supermarket or in commercial stores, or you can also purchase one online. Frisbees are quite affordable and so you don't have to spend huge money just to be able to play the game. With a small amount of budget, you can already play this hot craze.

Its purposes are not just escape devices. After the World War I and II more developments to its design lead it to be used for other purposes such as sports and recreation.

Parachutes are safer than they were decades ago, which garnered the interest of thrill seekers and extreme sport enthusiasts. Although the parachute is the main focus, other accessories such as the pants are also equally important. Parachute pants have also been associated with the 80's.

The pants are used to go along with the parachute. Other designs include jumpsuits and wing suits. The design depends on its purposes. Companies make different prototypes that can be used in different kind of sports. They are also associated with the clothing trend during the 80's and MC hammer.

Pants for jumping and breakdancing

Parachute pants are made of ripstop nylon. This type of fabric is water repellent and lightweight. They have interweaving ripstop threads that are reinforced in a crosshatch pattern. This enables the pants to resist ripping or tearing. This type of fabric was also used to replace silk that were originally used in making parachutes in World War II.

These pants can be custom made and are made to fit the wearer. Companies have their own sizing system and use the customer's measurements to make one. Typically, they have standard features such as elasticized waistband, crocodile closing system, zip front fly and Velcro knee reinforcements. They can be matched with a top.

They also became popular in American culture in the 80's because of breakdancing. Breakdancers used nylon to make their own trousers and jumpsuits. This enables them to do fast and intricate routines that they call "downrock" without tearing their pants. It also decreases the friction to be able to do speedy moves. The use of nylon and its large baggy cut resembled parachute pants. It was then later on labeled as parachute pants.

They gained more popularity when they were used by hip hop artists. This time they were light weight, loose fitted, and styled with excessive zippers, folds and pockets. The baggy cut and folds creates a visual effect which enhances the rhythm of the dancer's moves. The pockets are not really usable and are merely used to add another zipper or another superficial feature to the pants. They are designed with bright colors, neon patterns, and Middle Eastern prints which are different from its predecessors made by breakdancers.

These pants went out of style in the 90's. They were rather mocked by people as an emblem of the era of excess which was the 80's. They did make a comeback though but they were used by individuals in the Rave scene. Unlike before they became functional and the many pockets were put to use.

They have a zipper in the calf to vent the leg for cooling in hot dance floors or remove the lower part of the pants. The design and materials are similar to the ones in the 80's but more usable. They were called "Phat Pants."

Parachute pants, along with body position, enhance skydiving and play a big role when competing in sports. There are many companies that manufacture this type of clothing. They can also add drag and play a role in the aerodynamics of skydiving and other parachute sports.

Formula D Racing, also commonly referred to as Formula Drifting, is a sport that is rapidly increasing in popularity in the United States. Although the first professional event took place in 0 in the United States, the sport has been popular for a number of years, especially in other areas of the world. However, as previously mentioned, Formula Drifting is increasing in popularity in the United States. For that reason, there is a good chance that you are a fan of the sport. If you are not, you will likely become one, sometime in the future. If this is the case, you will want to learn as much as you can about the sport.

When it comes to learning about Formula D Racing, there are a lot of things that you may be wondering about. Many individuals wonder why it is considered a form of racing, especially when not all events are termed as head-to-head events. Others want to learn more about the cars, other want to learn about the sport in general, and there are some who want to know more about drifting.

See, in Formula D Racing, drifting is essential; it is how many drivers are judged for their performance. Drifting is defined as intentionally allowing a car to go past the car tires adhesion. This results in a slip, known as a laterally slip. That slip causes the car to drift or, in a way, turn into a position that is hard to control. Despite being hard to control, professional drifting drivers are almost always able to gain and keep control of their car.

With drifting, there are a number of different techniques that are used. According to the professional Formula Drifting Championship, these techniques include a Kansei Drift, a Braking Drift, and E-Brake Drift, and a Long Slide Drift. Below is a simple explanation of each of the above mentioned drifting techniques. Although they look neat in writing, they are even better when seen live, in action.

The Kansei Drift is to be used only with a neutrally balanced car. Using another car will not only result in an unsuccessful drift, but it could also be dangerous. When the correct car is used, the driver will remove his foot from the car's throttle. This will help to create an over steer, which the driver much manage throughout the rest of the high speed corner.

A braking drift, unlike the above mentioned Kansei Drift, is mostly used in corners that are defined as low or medium speed corners. Once in a low or medium speed corner, a driver will use their tail breaking, as soon as they begin entering into the corner. The use of this breaking will often result in the loss of grip, from the car to the car tires. To successfully maneuver this drifting technique, like all others, the driver must be able to balance the car through the use of the throttle and steering.

An E-Bake Drift, is in a way, similar to the above mentioned breaking drift; however, it can only be used in professional drifting under certain circumstances. E-Brake drifting involves the use of a car's emergency break. It helps to create a loss of traction, which is important in drifting. As with all other forms of drifting, the driver must successfully be able to maneuver the car once it begins to lose traction and control.

In addition to in an E-Brake Drift, the emergency brake is also used in another drifting technique. That technique is known as a Long Slide Drift. A Long Slide Drift involves activating a car's emergency break on a straightaway. It starts to angle the car in a direction that is needed to successfully make it through a number of corners. It has been noted that the Long Slide Drift is only safe to be used when at a high speed. Not only will the drifting technique not work at a low speed, but it is also potentially dangerous.

The above mentioned drifting techniques are just a few of the many that are used in the sport. Additional techniques include, but are not limited to a Faint Drift, a Clutch Kick Drift, a Shift Lock Drift, and a Dirt Drop Drift. For more information on these drifting techniques, you are encouraged to visit www.formulad.com.

To be a marksman one must concentrate in enhancing one's marksmanship and transform their paintball guns into sniper paintball guns for more accuracy. Sniper paintball guns must have a good incorporation of the gun, air and barrel system.

The barrel is the one of the most important aspect in choosing the right kind of sniper paintball guns. Sniper paintball guns that have portings (or holes) on the end of the barrel are quieter than sniper paintball guns without ports. Porting minimizes the noise of the sniper paintball guns by letting loose the air pressure behind a paintball before it leaves the muzzle. However by allowing the air pressure to escape it also decreases the gas efficiency. With this, more gas is needed for a paintball to achieve the same velocity that a non ported barrel have. In order for the sniper paintball guns to have maximum velocity its barrel must have no porting from the first eight inches of its barrel. The ideal barrel length of sniper paintball guns is between nine to fourteen inches.

One of the factors of a good sniper is the ability to go unnoticed with stealth being the key part to it. Having a loud sniper paintball gun will eventually change it. Good paintball snipers have a quiet sniper paintball guns so that their target will not even know where the shot came from. Paintball snipers always set their sights on a target before taking the shot. A good sniper paintball gun must have good sights. Some paintball snipers customize their paintball sniper guns and put scopes for better sniping. If you want to be a good paintball sniper player you must avoid paintball guns that have sight rails blocked by the vertical hopper. A scope can help in the paintball sniper to be more accurate. If you opt to go for a sniper paintball gun with scope, a cheap scope has little difference between an expensive one. Don't bother with laser scopes; paintballs does not follow the laser beam's trajectory. Although sniper paintball guns with laser scopes do look cool.

Versatility of the sniper paintball rifle is also essential. The sniper paintball rifle's versatility must work in two ways. First, when out on the field the sniper rifle must take the abuse of heat, cold dirt and humidity. Second, it must be upgradeable. Your sniper rifle must be versatile so that if you want to change its barrel with an after market barrel or other accessories it will fit properly in the rifle without sacrificing anything.

Having a good sniper paintball rifle does not necessarily mean that you can not be hit or located. Skills are also one aspect in becoming a good marksman.

While today this is still its primary function, many ATV riding gear manufacturers have begun to add style to their products. ATV riders can now display their affinity for ATV's by wearing their favorite gear and look great. ATV riding gear is versatile and now is multifunctional and can be a part of a person's everyday casual attire.

Many ATV riders buy riding gear for the purpose of safety while riding and to wear out and about as a fashion statement. Many manufacturers look at riding gear more as a line of clothing than simply utilitarian equipment. They design ATV riding gear including jackets, pants, and gloves with style in mind so that riding gear can be worn in a variety of situations. A riding jacket will look fine over jeans and even riding pants look cool with and ordinary shirt on top.

Having great looking ATV riding gear will do more for you than expand your wardrobe. When you look good, you have confidence and this will help your riding performance. The more confident you are, the better you will perform. If you often ride with friends or belong to an ATV group, having members who have the same style of riding gear will help to unite you and form a bond of comradery. Racing teams often dress alike to support each other and sport similar styles.

While looking good and dressing as a part of a team can help in driving performance, safety is the number one purpose of ATV riding gear. Every rider should wear a helmet, gloves, and specially designed pants and tops, especially f they are riding competitively. A helmet is the most obvious and important piece or riding gear. A helmet can be designed with style in mind, but it should also be high quality and meet all safety standards. The array of colors and design for ATV helmets are astounding so you are sure to be able to find a helmet that is both safe and stylish.

Gloves are another important part of a rider's safety gear. They help ATV riders keep a firm grip and protect fingers and hands form scratches and abrasions. An ATV rider's pants should also be designed with safety in mind. Durable riding pants will not rip easily and will keep riders from injuring and scraping their legs in the event of a fall and suffering other abrasions. A heavy duty riding jacket will also serve to protect a rider's upper body from similar injuries. Wearing protective clothing and driving safely are the best ways to prevent injury while riding an ATV.

Always pick riding gear that is of the highest quality. Because there are some many styles and choices, finding ATV riding gear that is both strong and stylish should not be a problem. The internet offers the best selection of safe ATV riding gear that will also make you feel confident and will integrate well into your everyday wardrobe.

Forget leisure activities we do not even find time for ourselves. There are very few amongst us who find time to work out on a regular basis everyday. But it is extremely important that once in a while we unwind ourselves. Let the stress flow out. Simply get away from the daily hustle and bustle of life.

Kayaking- A Great Stress Buster

There are many methods to do this. A hobby is a good way to start off. Involve yourself in some sport is another way. If you are an extrovert who loves to be outdoors then you simply have to give kayaking a shot. Kayaking is a great sport and a leisure activity rolled into one. According to your needs and preferences, there are various types of kayaking activities that are available. But none can beat the solitary kayaking trip experience.

Access The Inaccessible

There are many areas in the wild as well as lakes that are simply not accessible with a regular kind of boat. Forget a motorized boat; even a normal paddle boat cannot reach places like small lagoons, canyons, etc. Well, a kayak might be your answer to these so called inaccessible places. A kayak is of a reasonably small structure and hence is easy to maneuver through all these places. This is an experience that most people would never forget. If you are one of those people who love to be close to nature, kayaking will help you in a big way.

Paddle Away Towards Self- Fitness

Kayaking along a canyon during sunset will be an experience that you will cherish for the rest of your life. But then it also has a lot of other hidden benefits. The fact that a kayak has to be maneuvered manually is one of the biggest advantages that a kayak has over other similar small boats. It will also help you to stay fit and healthy.

Kayaking is a great form of exercise. So while you paddle away in the calm of a river, you are doing yourself a lot of good.

In more ways than one, the solitary kayaking trip will do your psychological and physical health a world of good. You and your small kayak will actually blend with the natural surroundings and become a part of it.

Safety And Kits

If you are a beginner, it is always recommended that you take a partner along for your initial kayaking trips. Besides this you also need to look into other aspects like safety kits and gear. Be sure that you carry a first aid box at all times.

Before embarking on a solitary kayaking trip, make sure that you inform somebody about your whereabouts and the planned course that you have decided to undertake on your solitary kayaking trip.

When crossing obstacles like mud, the biggest risk is getting stuck, which means coming to a stop. Because of this, speed is your friend, although you can hit a mud hole too quickly. However, hitting the mud with speed will usually give you the momentum to slide over the mud hole and out the other side even if your tires won't grip much. In some cases, you may want to keep at least one tire on solid terrain, if possible, so that your quad has something it can grip. You can do this by straddling the ruts and staying on the high ground, or by leaving one tire out of the mud. However, if the mud hole is too deep, you may tip your ATV over into the mud.

Some say that you should stand on your pegs when entering a mud pit so that you are more ready to respond to the uneven terrain. However, keep in mind that you may meet a lot of resistance when you hit the mud, causing you to come to a near-stop very abruptly. If you are standing when this happens, you might go for a dive in the mud. Although standing up may work for some people, you need to be comfortable and balanced enough to be prepared to unseen rocks and roots in the mud, as well as the possibility of a nose dive, or suddenly catching traction with the throttle wide open.

One mistake that many new riders make is giving their ATV too much gas once they start to lose traction. Once the mud starts to fly, more gas is not always the solution, since flying mud means that your tires aren't gripping anything solid. Sometimes a tire that is spinning a little slower will grab onto something that it would just grind against with more throttle. This is especially true if you come to a complete stop in the mud. When getting your quad moving again, easy does it, since too much gas means nothing but slinging mud. However, to get out of most spots after coming to a stop, some wheel spin is necessary, but more wheel speed usually doesn't mean more traction.

When you get into the mud, keep in mind that the tires with the most weight over them will be the most likely to get traction. So, if your quad is two wheel drive, you will want to keep some of your weight over the back axle, which will drive those rear tires through the slippery mud on the surface and down to something it can grab. Shifting your weight side to side can also help one of your tires get the traction it needs to pull you out of the mud.

Four wheel drive makes short work of a lot of mud that gives two wheel drive quads a lot of trouble, but four wheel drive is by no means an end-all solution for deep mud. Some mud pits may be entirely too deep for a stock setup, and a snorkel kit and exhaust extension may be needed just to ensure that your engine doesn't suck in a bunch of mud and debris. For mud this extreme, four wheel drive is a necessity, and a set of aftermarket tires with a more aggressive pattern will also help pull you out of the mud.

No matter what kind of ATV you take through the mud, keep in mind that you may only have one shot at getting through without getting a tow. The more you know about the particular mud hole, the better, but an experienced rider can tell a lot about a mud pit by its looks and how soft the rest of the trail is. However, a hole you can get through one day may swallow your quad after a good rain or may change drastically after other people have ridden through. The key to conquering mud is keeping cool and having several ways to get your tires to grip instead of slip.

The frame of the mountain bike is without question the most important factor to determine whether the bike could make the grade or not.

Like most goods that are for sale, the better the quality is, the more expensive the goods become and so the materials used in mountain bikes determine in large part the price tag that it will have. Generally, the lighter the frame of the bike, the more expensive it becomes. Special alloys have been developed to make the mountain bike so. This is done because the last thing that a mountain biker would want when riding is the added weight. Frames being the heaviest part of the bike have to be made lighter. This is the ideal especially for competitive biking; however market forces will always dictate that options are made varied.

Mountain bike frame materials

Cro-moly - bike frames that are made from cro-moly are often the choice for starter mountain bikes. Cro-moly though being made from steel is heavy. On the other hand, cro-moly has the ability to flex over bumps that the ride of the bike could be slightly smoother. There is nothing wrong with a cro-moly frame provided the rider is not bothered by the added weight. As cro-moly is used for basic bike road bike frames, the rider has to test it out and compare it with other bike frame materials. The added weight of the steel will hinder competitive riding although this may not matter much when mountain biking is done purely for the fun of it.

Aluminum - Aluminum bike frames are lighter bike frame materials and are a more popular choice than cro-moly. Aluminum however is not as strong as steel. To make it more durable, the frame has to be made stiff that translate into bulkier frames. Stiffening the aluminum also result into a stiffer ride.

Carbon fiber - is an ideal material although its main use is for the front fork of the bike. For carbon fiber to be used for the whole frame will mean more expense on the buyer, but carbon fiber being a lightweight and yet very strong material will provide a truly high performance ride.

Titanium - titanium is amazingly light and strong at the same time. This should be the best material for high performance very sophisticated bikes. The price though could be well beyond the reach of most mountain biking enthusiast and competitive bikers.

Mountain bike frame sizing

Another important factor in considering a bike frame is its size. The correct size of a mountain bike is of vital importance since the bikers comfort and agility will depend much on this. Mountain bikes are made smaller than the ordinary road bikes. To get the ideal size, the mountain bike should be at least three inches smaller than your ordinary road bike. Another way to do it is to put the bike between the legs with the tip of the saddle touching your back. Lift the front wheels until it touches your crotch. The front wheels should be about 10 centimeters off the ground.

Angles

The angle of the bike's frame translates drastically on how the mountain bike will perform. Critical angles are the head tube and the seat tube. Angles that are steeper are ideal for uphill pedaling while slacker angles are good for stability and high speed pedaling.

Off road karting is one good alternative for those who wants to enjoy the challenge and adventure of karting but doesn't want to get competitive. Despite the risk related to the sport, with the fun and excitement that it gives to the driver, there is no doubt that one can easily get hooked up with it.

Tougher than track karting, Off Road karting is now a popular motor sport drawing so much attention from the fast-growing number of karting enthusiasts all around the globe. But just like racing Go karts down the road track, it also requires skills to really excel in this type of motor sport.

The Off Road Go Kart

Off Road karting is the kind which makes use of a four wheel go kart primarily designed for the off road use.

Off road go karts are not just like the traditional go karts that can be enjoyed in many fun centers worldwide. These off road go karts have special features that are primarily designed to cater the demands of off road conditions that is why it takes an adult to handle and operate this type of karting equipment since greater speed and performance may mean greater risks at hand.

An off road karting machine has larger tires compared to the conventional ones. This provides an added ground clearance as well as traction needed to pass through off road surface. It also has a full suspension accompanied by shock absorbers located in the front and back of the kart to smooth out the driving in rough roads. Typically, it holds a powerful engine, one that enables the vehicle to climb up elevated surfaces and reach higher speeds and with the reverse feature that come with most off road Go karts, it would not be difficult backing up.

Origins Of The Off Road Go Kart

The first ever off road Go kart manufactured was the Odyssey produced by Honda. Released on the year 1977, it has a 250 cc 2-stroke engine with a single seat and CVT automatic transmission with bigger sized tires and one roll cage.

With the increasing popularity of this off road Go kart, by 1985, Honda upgraded the Odyssey and came up with the FL350. The changes included the improvement of roll cages, am increased engine size of 350 cc with an electric starter and a full suspension system for the front and back of the Go kart.

By the later part of 1989, the same company released the FL400 which has a larger engine size of 400 cc and now, it had already 2 seats and the suspension was enhance to be able to handle extra load. But the cost of the machine increased alongside with the enhanced features of the product. This resulted to unfavorable sales figures which led to the discontinuance of the production of the said product a just about a year after its launching. However, there are still existing units today of these Honda models.

The main goal of the company to open up the field of off road karting and introduce the possibilities to a lot of karting enthusiasts has indeed been a success. The sport has evidently been growing popularity worldwide.

While most people will go see a doctor after any type of sports injury is incurred, there are some that do not require a doctor to treat, and still others need to be treated in the meantime until you can get to a doctor to help the recovery process get started. Quick treatment often means the difference between a 3-month recovery and a 2-month recovery so it is very important to start treating the injury right away.

The most common injuries that are suffered are acute injuries. The best way to treat these is to use R.I.C.E. initially then determine if seeing a doctor is necessary. R.I.C.E. is an acronym that is short for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. The purpose of each step is different with rest being essential to allow the healing to begin while helping to prevent further injury to the area from occurring. Ice is vital because it can help stop swelling in the injured area, which can help when it comes to diagnosing the injury. Compression is important because it helps to reduce swelling even further as well as provides support for the injury. Elevation is necessary because it reduces the flow of blood to the injured area and allows the force of gravity to pull blood away, thus reducing bruising, swelling and pain.

Proper treatment using R.I.C.E. is to first take a piece of cloth such as a town and wrap it around the injury this helps to protect the skin from irritation. Next, you want to apply an ice pack or cold compress directly over the injured area. Using an elastic bandage or even a support bandage to hold the ice in place carefully wrap the injured area snuggly, be careful not to wrap too tightly you are not trying to cut off the blood supply, just hold the ice in place. You should apply ice for approximately 15 minutes every three hours during the day to continue treating.

In the event that you cannot decide if seeing a doctor is necessary, use these rules of thumb to assist you.

If you see any bone, muscle, cartilage or ligaments then an emergency trip to the doctor is absolutely necessary.

If the pain from the injured area seems to be spreading to other areas of the body.

If you have a very large amount of swelling in the injured area that following R.I.C.E. is not helping.

If you cannot move the injured area at all.

If you cannot feel the injured area, or if it tingles or feels very weak and fragile.

If your injury has not improved after three weeks of rest.

If your injured area has developed a rash, fever, pus, or if it feels hot to the touch.

Finally, if you have any doubts about being able to treat the injury yourself then seeing a doctor is as essential as if one of the previous conditions mentioned was visible. You should always seek help from a doctor in the even that you are unsure how to treat the injury. You are not bugging your doctor; rather you are ensuring that you are treated safely and quickly.

If ever in doubt, seeing your doctor is advisable to receive the best possible care. If your doctor is unavailable, and the injury is serious, go to the emergency room and see medical help there. Never leave a serious injury without seeking medical help as the condition can worsen causing the need for serious treatment even potentially surgery to become necessary.

Millions of people worldwide are transfixed each and every year as the annual Tour de France is run. In case you aren't one of these people, and you don't really get what the fuss is about, or maybe you just don't understand the rules and terminology, here is a quick primer so that you can join in on the fun this year!

The Tour de France started in 1903 when a French newspaper wanted to drum up some publicity and attract a larger readership to their publication. The idea to have a multi-day, multi-stage cycling race came from young Géo Lefèvre, who was the cycling reporter for the newspaper. The idea was altered and molded into a reasonable facsimile of what we see today: a race that traversed through small towns in France, taking cyclists a few weeks of grueling rides to complete. The first race was a success, as it has obviously led to over one hundred years of tradition, and it also increased the readership of the newspaper, so it fulfilled its original objective.

Since then, the Tour de France has evolved, but much of it has also stayed the same. Towns compete each year to be added as waypoints along the Tour de France route, and are selected by a committee to join the prestigious ranks of those who have hosted the race for a day. The race still attracts riders from all around the world, although the prestige (and money) of the Tour de France brings a much wider variety of cyclists than in the first years of the race. The race itself is also still a marvelous example of variety, as the race is split up into mountain stages large and small, hilly sections of road, and flat sections for quick sprints.

Many fans who are new to the Tour de France don't understand why one rider is wearing a yellow jersey, and why sometimes a new rider is wearing it the next day (don't worry, they wash it first). Well, the yellow jersey is famous as being worn by the current overall race leader. Therefore, wearing the yellow jersey is not only a great honor, but a great responsibility. It essentially paints a target on your back, and reminds all the other cyclists what they are racing for. If you are wearing the yellow jersey, you'd best be ready to defend it! Other jerseys include the green jersey, the white jersey, and even the polka dot jersey. They are awarded to the race's point leader, best young (under twenty five years old) rider, and best climber, respectively.

It was mentioned earlier that the race is split into stages. The stages are sections of the race that are traversed in a single day, which combine to make the race as a whole. Riders do get a break at the end of each stage- they're only human, after all- only to continue the next morning at the next stage. The 2008 Tour de France features twenty one stages. The riders also are recipients of two rest days, which are spaced out throughout the twenty three day event.

Cyclists often compete as part of a team. This may seem strange, as cycling would appear to be an individual sport, but teams have been part of the Tour de France for a long time. Teams can actually help each other quite a bit in a race, by pacing each other, blocking off the competition, or "slip streaming" for maximum speed by riding directly behind one another. During some years, the teams were based on the national origin of riders, but now the teams are organized by sponsors.

At the end of the Tour de France, the riders' finishing positions are determined by simply adding each rider's time on each stage together to get a total race time. The cyclist with the lowest overall time is the winner of the Tour de France, and joins a great tradition of legendary athletes dating back over one hundred years. Make sure to follow the Tour de France this year, as history is made yet again on the roads of France!

Karate can help build and fine tune the character of a person, developing agility and physically fitness skills in the process. Karate student and masters mature and become enabled to handle more difficult situations in life, too, working within a community, respecting the teacher.

Karate is actually a form of art that teaches a student how to develop the inner self. It teaches restraint, patience and calmness.

Established by Gichin Funakoshi, karate was founded with 20, one being to pursue karate for the whole life. This meant that a person should practice karate so that it becomes part of the inner self, and it should be done without harming others or the self in the process.

And during karate training, students are all treated in the same manner with the same tough standards so that all reach the same level or plane.

A couple of interesting items to note about karate is that it teaches people how to overcome stress plus constantly seek to improve life. Karate also teaches people to build strong relationship bonds and trust.

And as students learn karate, they interact with society and pass their art along in subtle, meaningful ways. They share their capacity for patience and restraint in the fast-paced world today, restoring harmony and balance, respect, equality, courtesy and fairness, presenting stable minds and inner beings.

The Meaning Behind the Scenes

The word Karate actually refers to China or open hand with the first part of the word: "Kara;" and hand or "te." And today's karate training is divided up into two Japanese Kihon forms that involve footwork, punching and posture techniques with focus on foot placement: Kata and sparring also known as Kumite.

While Kata features physical and combat postures, it also focuses on attack sequences while students wear protective gear. And sparring is more relaxed, protective gear not required but recommended for safety.

Since literacy was not high when original karate techniques were established, the training focus was mainly on movements, postures and sequences; in other words people focuses on the karate physique, with no standard patterns and interpretations. Simple forms of the kata were a block, punch, throw, joint strike or lock.

And the various karate styles throughout the Eastern culture that developed each used different training equipment, or "hojo undo" in Japanese, to focus on their own specific techniques. Some equipment is known as the chi-ishi, makiwara and nigiri game - each with different weights or grips to develop strength.

Kevin Ryan's The Illustrated Guide to Snowboarding offers one of the most useful guides to snowboarding for people from any level, whether beginners wanting to learn more about the sport and get their techniques sharpened, up to instructors and professionals seeking to further hone their skills on the slope.

Reader reviews and feedback on this book showed that it has a lot of useful drills featured that helped them improve their game immensely after repeated practise. The drills are written in a step by step fashion that seems ambiguous at first, but makes complete sense once you actually try them out. Furthermore, the book's coverage is all-encompassing, including tips for beginning, to intermediate, to advanced skill levels.

The approach taken by the author is both humorous and scientific, employing small drawn illustrations to show drills and techniques. While there are few actual pictures involved, these hand drawn illustrations are funny to look at and yet maintain a good degree of accuracy in portraying the skills and techniques being demonstrated. The author uses a lot of jokes and quips interspersed with facts and the illustrations are likewise a mix of serious, factual ones and cute, cartoony renderings of snowboarding stuff.

Most professional instructors in snowboarding who read this book found new drills and skills they could teach their classes inside the beginner sections, so this book's coverage is quite extensive. Furthermore, the author knows that certain skills can ONLY be conveyed though actual practice and demonstration, so he goes out of his way to state when certain skills are best acquired through a snowboarding instructor.

One of the sections that a lot of readers will probably find useful is the chapter on snowboard care and maintenance. Where most how-to books devote footnotes or at best, a few pages to the care and maintenance of equipment, Kevin Ryan actually goes out of his way to write an in depth full chapter on tips for taking proper care of your snowboard.

There is even a section on the ergonomics of skateboarding, covering the proper way to carry and ride a board to minimize the physical strain on the snowboarder. This also includes explanations on the physics and mechanics of snowboarding. While not exactly necessary for most people, this chapter is useful for people who are more technically inclined, like say, industrial designers who might be out to design a new type of snowboard.

Unlike some instructional books, this book does not seek to replace the need for an instructor, but instead seeks to augment and expand on the knowledge gained from working with a good qualified snowboarding instructor. For those who insist on learning everything from a book and doing it themselves, however, the book's attention to detail and exhaustive explanations of the mechanics of snowboarding are actually enough to let them get by and teach themselves through practice and repetition.
