You'll find those uncommon few out there that love the idea of having a Dory. Even more exceptional are those who would build their own from a set of Dory plans. This uncommon type of men (and women) get great pride in contributing to the great maritime heritage of our modern day world by building and using a Dory. Building one from a set of plans is challenging yet satisfying. That is not to mention the bragging rights involved.

Locating a set of Dory plans is the first task. When you find a source (there are many online), your next step is to acquire a set for yourself. Once you have them and you have taken a few minutes to look at them, a number of things grow to be obvious. First, the plans will include a bill of materials. You'll have to locate a source of these materials. Some of them can be found locally, yet sometimes you might have to order items from some of the many good Marine Supply businesses out there. Specialty components comes to mind, ie.oarlocks, etc. Your plans will most likely list some sources for supplies.

While you take a look at the plans, there will be a detail about how your boat is going to be reinforced as it's getting built. It may be something as easy as a strong-back or perhaps a supporting framework. That's where you will begin the procedure. Familiarize yourself with the details.

When you are ready to get going, you'll have to decide whether to build indoors or perhaps outdoors. The two choices have their strong points. Should you build inside, you will have better power over the temperature and protection from the elements, but there is a danger from the accumulation of gases from the numerous chemical substances you will utilize. Sufficient ventilation is a must. And keep a good fire extinguisher handy. However , if you select the outdoors option, you won't have to worry about air flow. You will, however, need some type of cover to protect your boat till it's completed. A quality tarpaulin is a popular choice.

Your plans will have most of this information mentioned, however considering these things ahead of time will be worth your time and effort. Your boat will be a source of pride and you're sure to boast a little too. You'll be joining a number of proud boat builders when your project is complete.

When it comes to fishing, the biggest draw to freshwater fishing right now has to be carp fishing. This is the same throughout America as much as Europe. People just can't seem to get enough. There might not be a considerable difference between fishing for carp over fishing (rod and reel) for anything else, but there are some differences to be presented. One of which is carp fishing gear. If you are serious about catching carp, you ought to educate yourself on the necessities.

Carp fishing gear can be as simple as any regular tackle and bait for your normal outings, but if you want to really delve into the specifics, you can find some carp specific gear such as rods, baits and line.

Getting a rod to specifically go carp fishing is a possibility for the serious carp angler. The difference in these rod and reels over the competition of other fishing types is generally the length of the rod. Carp rods get to be about 12' long and with very good reason. If you are pulling in a 45 lb. Monster carp, you don't want to lose your rod to the tension and pull of the fish. A longer rod simply gives you more leverage. They start around $25 for a low-end rod, but the best rods will run you around $150. The difference is the makeup of materials, which greatly affects the rods endurance and overall durability in clutch situations.

Perhaps the most important part of fishing for carp exclusively is getting bait that carp exclusively enjoy. Granted, this is not to say that some other fish isn't going to be enticed by what you have dangling in the water, but you will land more carp by getting the right baits. Some of the companies that make some great bait to land big carp are K-1 and Kryston. They both claim to have some great concoctions of proteins and enticing elements that carp simply cannot ignore.

Getting appropriate line is pretty crucial to your cause as well. If you have insufficient line, then you might not have the carp either. Some carp can get over 50 pounds, and so you have to have a line that can withstand the thrashing and evasiveness of a 50 pound fish. Most often carp range in the 10-20 pound range, yet you don't want to plan for this being your maximum. Planning ahead can be the difference between the big carp and the big story about the big carp.

The most important aspect of carp fishing is technique and practice. No amount of great gear will live up to real experience and knowledge. Raw skill comes from practice, and no carp can resist the bait of an angler like that.

So if you are confident in your abilities and just want to get an edge, you should definitely check out some of this incredible carp fishing gear.

There are different kinds of knives available, and as with a lot of other instruments, if you do not have the suitable one, it's probable to create problems. A skillful quality knife will endure a lifetime with nominal maintenance. Here are

A lot of hunting knives are designed for skinning. If you would wish your knife to be pleasing for skinning, the basic thing you should note is the blade form. You want a rounded or drop point so that when you are "ripping" the skin, the point of your knife will not dig into the meat. Also, you will likely want a non moving blade knife, as folding blades have too many crevices to trap blood and mess in.

Selecting a knife for camping can be tough because you need a flexible knife. You may need this knife to prepare food, trim branches, repair gear, and a thousand other uses. For this reason, you will often find that a Swiss army knife or multi tool may fill your needs best. Also, you might prefer to add a saw, hatchet, or machete to your pack before you leave, for tougher cutting jobs.

You should likely get a fillet knife for fishing. A fillet knife is well designed for cleaning fish, and it can also cut fishing line well, which is the other main task for a fishing knife. There are also electric fillet knives available for the fisherman that is constantly catching many fish. If you plan on fishing in salt water, make sure your knife is designed to withstand the corrosion of saltwater.

Trappers will generally want a skinning knife, much equivalent to a hunting knife. A fixed blade or a folding knife will work equally well; this would be a preference of the sportsman. Tougher tasks are usually completed with an ax, so a second knife isn't normally obligatory.

A boater's chief motive for a knife is cutting line. You'll want a piercing knife that is convenient and promptly deployed, in case you need to cut a line quickly. Make certain that the knife will stand ahead to water, too. It is apparent that each open-air sport calls for a detail knife. Buy a quality knife and your undertakings will be easier and a superior knife will often be gave down to your kids.

It is often known as the fishing capital of Canada in spite of the fact that every winter the lake completely freezes over. The lake was once known as "Beautiful water" by the natives during the early seventeenth century. Today, it remains an attractive place for fishing all year round with an abundance of fresh water fish. A number of rivers like the Black river and creeks like Bluffs creek flow into the lake bringing with them a variety of delicious fish.

The lake is only a short drive from Toronto and is well known for a quality white fish bonanza and winter lake trout. The lake is shallow on the south side known as Cook's End while the other side is extremely deep with a variety of marine life. The different types of weeds like eel grass and cabbage weed grow in the depths providing an excellent habitat for the fish to thrive and multiply.

Only a short drive from beautiful Toronto, the lake is known for its quality white bonanza, and winter trout. The shallow end on the south side is known as Cook's End. The other end is extremely deep and contains the widest variety of marine life. Eel grass and cabbage weed grow from the depths housing a wealth of habitat that allow the fish to thrive and multiply.

Ice fishing is extremely popular during the winter. Pikes are most popular during this time of year and cutting thru the thick ice is the only obstacle and can prove challenging for even the most seasoned of experts. Ice fishers come to the lake during this time and fish for minnows, Pikes, and Perch.

There are a few items that one must remember should you decide to take a fishing trip in the wintertime. Take warm clothing, a portable heater, water resistant gloves, and something to sit on while fishing. Make sure that you can be comfortable, because every fisherman knows that it may be a while before that first big bite. One of the most enjoyable parts in a fishing excursion is the anticipation of the catch.

The summer fish tend to stay in deeper waters and fishing in offshore areas usually proves to be the most fruitful. During the spring the fish move closer to the more shallow waters of Cook's end making wade fishing more fruitful than deep water fishing. The most predominate fish during this time of year are Large and Small Mouth Bass. Crappies also tend to thrive amongst the shallow waters as well.

Many fishing tournaments, like the Canadian Trap Attack, occur in the area during the month of March. Plan to participate in any of the tournaments that happen around the lake that are advertised online for reasonable prices. Angler fanatics often find many hints and techniques online while searching for fishing tourneys in Canada.

There are several tourist web sites that cater to the specific needs of Anglers. Always do a price comparison before opting for any particular site and always ask for a discount. Lake Simcoe is well known throughout Canada, and also a majority of the world, for being one of the best places to fish of any with similar renown. With its wild beauty and pristine wildlife, fishing Lake Simcoe holds promise to be one of the most memorable spots for any fisherman worth his salt. Happy fishing!

We are off to our first destination, soon to become an adventure. Being the first day, the group is just getting to know one another and the level of excitement is high with everyone talking about cameras and pictures.

We are on our way to Arenal, an active volcano in Costa Rica, but there are a few stops along the way. First, we stop in Sarchi, famous for its tropical furniture, where magnificent, brightly decorated ox carts are made in an eighty plus year old water powered factory. From there, we drive to the little mountain town of Zarcero where the focal point is the old wooden church with its much-photographed double row of topiaries leading to its entrance. You can fill your camera's memory card just at these two places with the colours and patterns in Sarchi and the fantastic shapes of the topiaries in Zarcero.

Along the way, the potholes in the roads are many. Our Tico driver, Luis, knows this and so drives extremely cautiously to avoid them. However, it seems like everyone else on two or four wheels pass us. Those passing us seem to believe that they are Formula One contenders and in Costa Rica there is even a bus driver who is known to have passengers find God while on his bus.

Lunch in La Fortuna follows and we are now approaching our lodge in Arenal. The road up to the Lodge is a continuous pothole because the rainy season has just ended and most roads are in horrible condition. Our road is unique because it was constructed with crushed lava.

We round a curve and a come to a clearing at a river and there is Arenal Volcano! Most have never been face to face with a volcano before and it is truly an awesome sight to see, a perfectly shaped volcano.

The point of the cone is cloaked in puffy white clouds with a beautiful blue sky as a backdrop. We immediately stop and quickly leave the van attaching cameras to tripods. Some of us wade into the river for a better image while some shoot from the riverbanks getting a different perspective.

Who is to say how dangerous being this close to an active volcano can be? Fortunately, Arenal is very predictable and today is closely monitored so there is a very low risk of a serious, catastrophic, unexpected eruption. Only 1 km away from the base of the volcano and 2 km to the top of the cone is the lodge where we stay and without a doubt any activity attracts the attention of everyone.

While unpacking and getting settled in, Arenal speaks. It is a great roar, smoke and gas billowing many hundreds of feet into the sky and the sound of the rocks tumbling down the slopes. After the eruption, the Mantled Howler monkeys are extremely vocal but we do not know if they are protesting the roar of the eruption or just answering back.

While sitting in the lodge dining room enjoying our dinner Arenal speaks again. Everyone had been told of the many photo opportunities in Costa Rica but who would imagine eating dinner and having something like this happen? And this was only our first day of the tour!

The next two nights are without much sleep since we find comfortable chairs in the common area of the lodge just outside our rooms and we mount our cameras on tripods attaching cable releases. Since I had already been to Arenal many times I had chosen to use an 80-200mm lens set at 80mm and an aperture of f8, the camera shutter set at "B" for time exposure.

I think a time exposure of more than 20 minutes will produce an ugly yellow blob of light since there is a lot of activity of small flare-ups at the cone. Lava is flowing down the opposite side, so I allow no more than 20 minutes to pass before I closing the shutter and starting another exposure. The use of a cable release makes these exposures very easy and while we were there Arenal puts on quite a pyrotechnical show.

What a magnificent first day of the tour in Costa Rica. Eight more days of photography to go and everyone is anxiously looking forward to what exciting adventure tomorrow will bring.

If you have always wanted to vacation in Costa Rica, check out Jaco.

Located only two hours from San Jose, Jaco is along Costa Rica's central Pacific coast at the Northern part of Puntarenas province. Though there are plenty of things to do during the day, this is one of the country's famous "party towns", well known for the outstanding, eclectic nightlife that you can enjoy on the beach.

Over the years, many tourists have made this a favorite location for their visits, citing its casual, relaxed, laid back, friendly, party atmosphere. There are lots of great beaches nearby, some of which are very tranquil, all of which are gorgeous. Jaco has boomed over the last half dozen years or so. Where there was once a quiet little road (except at night) road through town, today there are towering high rises and resorts, and lots and lots of bars, restaurants, and shops.

Fortunately, Jaco isn't just a great location for people who have lots of money. Indeed, it caters to any budget. There are hotels and accommodations ranging from luxurious to, well, basic (think hostels with dorms and cold water---but cheap). Restaurants of every kind have sprung up here as well, not to mention tropical bars and taverns.

Though the beach directly in front of Jaco (Jaco Beach) has been very popular for many years, it is surpassed by nearby beaches (literally just a couple of miles/kilometers away). These beaches have fewer people and are some of the most ecologically pure in all of the world, bearing Blue Flag certifications for cleanliness. In particular, I recommend spectacular Hermosa Beach, just a couple of miles from Jaco. It is pristine and has some of the best surfing on the planet. In fact, in late July professional surfers from more than 35 countries are going to descend upon Hermosa in the days for world surfing championships---and party at night in Jaco.

Costa Rica is one of the smallest countries in the world but it is world-famous for its many places to go and things to do. When you vacation at Jaco, youll be close to innumerable activities. Head over to one of the fabulous volcanoes. Go windsurfing at Lake Arenal. Learn to surf. Visit fabulous Corcovado National Park, described by National Geographic as the most biologically intense place on earth. Take your life in your hands and bungee jump into a deep gorge just outside Jaco. Zipline through tropical forests, whitewater raft, go sea kayaking. Or just lay back and enjoy the beach and romantic sunsets.

And, if you like to fish (or want a new experience), take a day charter from Jaco. The waters are often teeming with wonderful fish, from 400 pound marlin to sailfish, schools of tuna, and dozens of other species. Costa Rica offers some of the worlds great off-shore fishing and remember: the worst day of fishing is better than the best day of working.

Christopher Columbus discovered and named Costa Rica 500 years ago, yet every day people discover new wonders while visiting this marvelous country. Though it makes up only about 1/10,000 of the land surface of the planet, there are more species of butterflies here than on the entire continent of Africa combined! One-fifth of every species of plant and animal on earth is here.

What is living in Costa Rica like? Outstanding and amazing in many ways and as a photographer I have seen the beautiful and incredible things right on my doorstep and this is an example of what I experienced.

We all know that there are leaf cutter ants in the jungle and they are responsible to bring leaves to their nest. Listen to this story of the strength, persistence, and dedication to duty of one ant.

In his travels across my driveway, in front of my most beloved flowering tree that he and his friends were devastating, a leaf cutter ant we will name Bill picked up a matchstick, you know, one of the wooden ones. This brave soul dropped its leaf and started to carry the match upright as if it were a leaf. Very impressive!

I carefully picked up the matchstick thinking that I would lessen the load. And incredible as it might seem, Bill did not let go and was picked up along with the match, his little feet still trying to march away.

I carried Bill and the match to the terrace of my house, all this time just holding the match. When placed on the terrace Bill just kept on marching to the beat of his own drum going around the chair legs however remaining on the terrace.

Without hesitation he marched around and around like a soldier carrying his flag. As a photographer I watched and photographed in amazement for over an hour and could not help but wonder when he would drop the match and go on his merry way as he must have been panting by now, not that you can see an ant pant, believe me!

Now I realize their stamina and persistence when they march like an army carrying their leaves back to their nest. As Bill became very tired I eventually was able to take away the matchstick and he was freed from his load to go back to, what else, carrying leaves.

Now I can truly respect their stamina and persistence when doing their very important job carrying their leaves back to their nest. As Bill became very tired I eventually was able to take the matchstick away and freed him from his load to go back to, what else, carrying leaves.

Sometimes when the ants become a problem and invade areas of my home as they do in a tropical country, I think of Bill. Then I step back and cannot help but admire what an incredible creature the little ant is.

Every once in awhile someone comes up with an idea so simple but so good you're tempted to smack yourself in the forehead in an, "I should have had a V-8" moment. And you wonder why in the world you didn't think of it yourself. Or, maybe you DID think of it yourself but never acted on the idea to bring it about. This must be how many feel when first exposed to the concept of boat launching wheels.

These wheels are so useful and yet so simple. After you've had them installed and used them one time you'll wonder how you ever managed without them. And for sure, you'll never want to own another small boat without having a set installed. But then, they may well outlast the boat on which they're installed and can easily be taken off and reinstalled on your next vessel.

If you own a boat that you use for hunting or fishing these wheels are a must-have. They can take a load up to 400 pounds, making it possible for you to launch your boat with the motor already attached and full of all your gear with no sweat, literally. And you can do it all by yourself, too.

These launching wheels will save wear and tear on your boat. They'll save wear and tear on you too, making it a snap to move the boat over all kinds of terrain with ease. They make it unnecessary to have a couple of able bodies along every time you need to move your craft.

The outfit that came up with and took the patent on the launching wheels recently won a vote done by Boating Magazine for best landing gear package. Price, quality convenience and size were all considered. With their innovative design you can launch your boat just about anywhere, by yourself. This is a great benefit to seniors who would like to get out on the water but aren't physically able to muscle their boat into position.

The wheels are easy to install on both ends of most boats. They are durable and airtight and made to withstand hard use, weather and salt water. They are capable of rolling over any and all terrain including sand, mud, rocks, and vegetation. They'll even roll over logs on the ground. They are attached to heavy machined aluminium shafts which, in turn, are installed on the boat with heavy duty brackets.

The boat launching wheels will not interfere with your fishing or with the motor and flip up when not in use. Flipped back down, they can be used as a trolling brake. Flipped all the way around, they can be used as supports to store the boat, upside down, off the ground. If you have a small boat, you'll want to check these out.

There seems to be a lot of confusion and misunderstanding about what an altimeter watch is. There are a significant number of manufacturers and outdoor retailers selling them, and marketing them by other names such as GPS watch, digital compass, etc. The simplest description is that an altimeter watch is a watch that allows the wearer to measure how high you are compared to sea level (your altitude).

There are many altimeter watch manufacturers, including Nike, Suunto, High Gear, and Timex. There also are some smaller ones with great quality and some smaller ones with marginal quality. In my opinion and for the sake of brevity we'll mention two of the largest and best ones - Suunto and High Gear. Buy from either of these companies for a variety of features and prices - their watches run anywhere from $50 to $1000. These manufacturers also offer the best return and refund policies, important as you discover all of the uses for your altimeter watch.

An altimeter is simply a barometer with some math behind it to spit out altitude. Oversimplified, the watch measures barometric pressure and gives altitude. As you get higher, air density decreases, causing lower barometric pressure. Conversely, as you descend, air pressure increases. Other factors like changing weather also affect barometric pressure, so it is important to recalibrate often, especially at the beginning of your time outside and as weather changes.

Are you a skier, mountain biker, skydiver, or hiker? If so, an altimeter watch may be for you. Knowing your elevation can be critical for each of these activities - especially as a safety precaution.

An altimeter watch is a critical piece of gear for most outdoor enthusiasts. I hope this article has provided you with enough information to begin your altimeter watch research.

Travel and 4WDs can be a fun combination, however there are a few things you should take into consideration before purchase of a 4WD.

There are two different types of 4WD vehicles. One type keeps the 4WD active at all times, the other allows you to shift into the 4WD mode as needed. Each of these have both advantages and disadvantages.

Vehicles that remain in the 4WD mode all the time usually require more fuel than those that give the driver the option. Steering is much different when you are in 4WD, so you may need to take some time to get used to the differences in a vehicle that uses the option all of the time. An advantage of this type vehicle is that 4WD is on when you need it. You do not have to get out to switch in hubs or shift the vehicle into the mode if road conditions suddenly change and become slick.

Optional use 4WD vehicles tend to get better gas mileage, although less than a two wheel drive vehicle that does not have the additional weight of the 4WD. It will steer like a conventional vehicle if out of 4WD and like the all wheel drive vehicle when in 4WD. Some vehicles require the drive to lock in the hubs from the outside of the vehicle and select the 4WD option from inside the vehicle in order to have four wheel drive active.

Travel in a vehicle equipped with four wheel drive is much safer in the winter. You will be able to drive on snow packed roads with better traction than other vehicles. You may not need chains to reach a ski resort. In the other seasons you will be able to travel in areas normal vehicles may not be able to pass.

Travel and 4WDs can make your trip safer.

Back in the old days, people were not concerned about the luggage's weight that they needed to bring along during trips. Looks and durability were more important for them. Most of them were made out of sturdy leather that had classic on them. In the 21st century, traveling has changed greatly. Gone were the days of having to ride a train for hours or having to ride on a ship for days. What dominates the world today is air travel. Traveling time is cut into half. Along with the air travel's development is the rising need of lightweight luggage.

What is light weight luggage? It is a luggage made out of light weight material that weighs around 9-10 lbs. Even though leather is still used as a material in making bags and luggage due to its good appearance and ability to withstand damage, weight will always be an issue. For the simple reason that leather is a heavy material and add up weight to the whole luggage itself. In order to get the perfect light weight luggage be sure it's made out of nylon and it has honey comb frames on it. There are a variety of designs to choose from.

When it comes to material, stay away with leather typed luggage. Choose those made out of nylon. Consider the means of transporting the luggage. There are different ways of transporting the luggage. The preference is all up to you. You might like those with top or side handles, back pack straps, slip back or built-in wheels. It all depends on which you find comfortable and more convenient for you to choose.

Of course, it is a good thing to carry luggage that looks good and in style. You can go for a tote, a trolley, suit case or a duffel bag. If you are going to a weekend getaway, a duffel bag is a good option. For a one-week holiday vacation, carrying a wheeled trolley is highly advisable. To add a little bit of glamor and value, getting designer's bags is a plus. There are high end bags available on the market; you can get either a Gucci or a Louis Vuitton. However, you can still go for the less expensive ones such as JanSport, Traveler's Choice, or eBags.

If you love traveling and you do it once or twice a week, then you need to get sturdy luggage that will last longer. However, if you just travel once or twice a year buying different sorts of bags will be a good idea. Choose those bags made of not so sturdy fabrics, it can save you money. One last thing, you need to read the tags. A bag might be made out of 500 denier Polyester while the other one is made out of 800 denier Cordura. Both bags might look the same but they differ much on the quality. The more expensive the fabric is, the longer it can last wear and tear.

Given the many applications for which a bowie knife is designed to be suitable, one would be correct to assume that they come in many different materials. Bowie knives that are made after the fighting tradition of the knife are usually of hard, expensive and very sharp high-carbon steel. More multi-purpose knives are made of cheaper materials. Some knives are even made of exotic materials such as titanium and ceramics, but these are not frequently employed in bowie designs.

If a knife just needs to hold up to abuse, edge-holding isn't usually an issue. Knives that need to be durable are usually best made of a variety of stainless steel. Another benefit is that this metal is resistant to rust. For hard-working bowie knives, a softer, less expensive variety of stainless steel such as 420 is usually fine. It won't get, or stay, that sharp but it is tough.

The 440 A, B and C types of steel hold an edge much better than does 420 and are still very rust resistant. Their price and edge-holding ability goes up along with the letters. For general purpose bowie knives that need to be sharp, 440A is a fine choice. For a hunting knife that needs to be razor-sharp, needs to stay that way and must stand up to the rigors of the field, 440C is a good choice. It is far more expensive than the lesser types of stainless, however.

At the high-end of knife metals are the very high carbon steels. These knife blades can achieve an incredibly sharp edge but are more brittle and fragile than the 440 grades. The steel denoted as CPM 440V is among the best of steels, is durable and sharp enough for most any application. This grade of steel can be very expensive for bowie knives.

There are some exotic materials that are used for knife manufacture. Though they are not common in bowie knives, material such as titanium and ceramics offer their own particular advantages. Ceramic knives are fragile but have a remarkably sharp edge. The thickness of the blades precludes the use of this material in bowies. Titanium blades are not commonly made, but some customer manufacturers may offer it. Expect these sorts of materials to come at a very high price. They may, in the end, only offer performance that rivals that of high-quality steel, if they rival it at all.

As well as hiking, fishing and camping there are water park adventures, go-karting, wild life spotting, boating, tubing, skiing, and lots more activities.

There are nine reservoirs which run down the length of the Tennessee River, the Kentucky Lakes back up along 184 miles of this river, so you can imagine just how beautiful this area is. To give you an idea of the scale of the lakes, it would take 155339 football fields to fill it. Completed in 1944, the Kentucky Dam forms the basis of the lake, with Lake Barkley having been completed in the 1950's by the US Army Engineering Corp. These two lakes are the largest of the reservoirs and are connected by a canal.

Recreation, including fishing takes place all year round and during the winter this is a brilliant spot for eagle watching as well as bird spotting as many migratory birds held this way. It is also a popular place and season for duck and geese hunters.

Crappie fishing starts late in the winter and continues into the early summer, fishing for crappie when they move back into the shallows in April is popular with anglers. April is also when black bass season starts, and bass trophy fishing is an obsession with US anglers. This makes for super competitions with huge prizes on offer.

The lake is also home to panfish which is a more relaxing sport and catching bluegill is also popular. Stretch the line a little more with some fighting redear and other shell crackers, and guides are available to take you to the best fishing hot spots.

Tournaments such as the Bassmaster Elite Series, the FLW Series, the Stren Series and the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League take place at Kentucky Lakes, and the massive population of bass makes tournament fishing a lot of fun.

Because fishing for crappies in this area is also extremely popular, tournaments such as the Crappie USA tournament and Crappie Masters also visit the area. But for bigger fish to fry anglers also catch sauger, striped, yellow, white and yellow bass, blue and channel catfish as well as flathead.

Besides all the natural beauty, fishing and recreational opportunities these lakes create, they also have a very practical use and one of the jobs it performs is controlling floods on the Mississippi and Ohio and rivers. It is also a major TVA generating plant for hydroelectricity.

Every year, as many as 17 million visitors flock to the shores of these great lakes, a large percentage of these are fishermen, but most are vacationers. If you think that it is home to uncountable boat docks, state parks, ninety two recreation areas of a commercial nature, country parks, national parks, wildlife management and refuge areas, group camps, municipal parks and 2 400 miles of shoreline, this is hardly surprising.

Boat auctions are a lot more common - and a lot more popular - than most people realize. So why would people choose to use boat auctions instead of just buying one on their own and not dealing with any possibility of a hassle? First, boats that are bought in a boat auction usually cost only a fraction of the hefty price tag they were purchased originally for. It's also common for people who can't buy a boat directly from a dealer because of poor credit to try auction houses because many houses will finance boats to anyone. And many people find that older, antique boats - which are hard to find anywhere - often go up for auction after someone passes away, giving them an opportunity to find a rare treasure.

The auction process itself can differ from auction house to auction house, so some minor details might be different but in most cases, the process is very similar. Some auction houses insist that their bidders actually register with them so that they can keep track of who is bidding but others do not. Still, once bidding proceeds, boats are put up for sale. Prospective buyers then bid on them and the one who bids the highest is the one who goes home with the boat.

Auctions Are A Simple Beast

It is important to understand how a boat auction works, the boat gets submitted by the seller, people start bidding and then the highest bidder wins. Often the old owner submits paperwork with the boat that covers such things as history, condition and other important facts about the boat. This sort of information is incredibly important because it has to do with who owns the boat, if the boat is stolen and what repairs are needed or have already been done.

There are some things that are must do's before an auction. You really need to know about the type of boat you are looking for so make sure you research. This research will have to look at what you want the boat to do, pros and cons of different types of boats, its important that you get a boat that suits your need. Lastly make sure that you actually by what you want not just settle on something that may not do the job, this will only lead to disappointment.

Everybody who knows surfing surely loves it. Surfing is a beautiful experience of getting into water to riding on big waves. I have a great experience of surfing. I have been to plenty of beaches and pools to practice my surfing skills. I have noticed one thing in all the famous surf spots. It is that there are many people that come for surfing and due to this it becomes mess.

By noticing this thing I decided to search for places which are best for surfing and the tides are also high. So I have collected some information about these types of beaches that I am going to share with you. These beaches are not famous so are not crowded. And you can surf there without any mess with full peace. No doubt the following places that I am going to tell you are small but the waves there are awesome.

The first secret place is in Honolulu, Hawaii. You must be amazed to hear about Hawaii because now it is a dead place for surfing. But even then there are many hidden places in Hawaii which are alive for surfing. These surfing points are small but the waves there are unbeatable. To reach to these spots you have to go through a bit dangerous track. When the waves pick up its pace, these spots become the best surfing spots. Locals hardly know about these places.

The second one is Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, Philippines. This spot for surfing is a secret and is used for competitions. For this you have to go to an island and it takes four to five hours to reach there. For the people who know about this destination it is one of the top surfing places in the country. There you will find ten surfing spots and if one surfing is too crowded then you can also change the spot. The place is in the remote town so you will not find a very good place to stay. Otherwise the people of the town are very much friendly. They help you a lot. The best time to enjoy there is from November to January as in these months you will find high waves.

The third interesting place for surfing is Oahu, Hawaii. This place is not too much crowded because it is also far off. Getting to this place is also a challenge but once you reach there you will get beautiful high waves regularly trying to touch the sky. It is best if you go there in summers as the waves there reach to its peak.

Last but not the least is Lake Michigan in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. Here the water is so cold that you will find ice at some points in the water. It is basically a challenging place for surfers. The first thing is because if the cold water and the warm water will meet it will create a tide and second is due storms which create high tides. If you like to take challenges and a daring person then this place is best for you.

If you are looking someone to teach you surfing then the beaches of Portugal, France, Spain, Ireland, and Canary Islands, beaches of Costa Rica, California, Hawaii or Brazil are the best option.

For getting more details you can search on internet and check out the sites that work in this field. You can also book tickets on internet to go to these places.

If you are trying to find expedition tent, you need to explore every one of your choices.

If you plan on doing some adventure camping in places with extreme weather, you are going to need a special type of tent. The tent you've been using to camp for a weekend of fishing won't cut it. You are going to need a tent that can handle extreme weather - rainstorms, snowstorms, and any other weather mother nature might throw at you.

The tent that can handle all forms of extreme weather is called an expedition tent. Tents are typically rated by seasons. A 1 season tent is designed for summer camping and can handle only very light rain. A 3 season tent can handle heavy rain, light snow, and mild winds. A 4 season tent is a tent that's designed to handle the worst weather conditions. A 4 season tent is also called an expedition tent.

Always think about where you will be camping most often before buying you expedition tent. If you are just looking for a tent that can handle light snow and light winds, you likely won't need to invest in an expedition tent. If you plan on hiking Everest or spending weeks out in some of the more remote parts of the world, you will need an expedition tent.

A good expedition tent is expensive - thousands of dollars. It's not a good idea to get a poorly made expedition tent because if you are going to camp in places where you need an expedition camp, your life could be at risk is something goes wrong with the tent.

Remember that there is no one expedition tent that will fit all different situations. If you plan on camping out on mountain tops, you will need a different expedition tent than if you plan on camping for a few weeks in the Amazonian rainforest.

Before you buy an expedition tent, make sure you do plenty of research online. Take a look at several different online retailers to see what different expedition tents are offered, then pick out the best tent that meets your needs.

A Butterfly knife or otherwise known as a Balisong is a pocket knife. What makes this pocket knife unique is the way that they handle splints into two and the blade is then stored and concealed within the two separate parts of the handle.

There are few people who know where the word Balisong comes from. A common belief is that the term was derived from the Tagalong language that originated in the Philippines. Tagalong is spoken by somewhere round twenty two million people today, most of which live in the Philippines. The phrase baling sungay translates to broken horn in the Tagalong language. This is a plausible explanation of the word since the handles of butterfly knives were originally made from animal horns.

There are two different styles of butterfly knives: the sandwich and the channel. A sandwich model butterfly knife is constructed layer by layer using bolts and screws to hold it together. The knife then folds into the space left for it. A channel butterfly knife is more expensive, but it is also much sturdier. The handle of a channel butterfly knife is carved from one piece of material. Once carved, the blade folds into the space carved for it.

There are two main ways that the butterfly knife can be made. The first style of knife is called the sandwich. The second way is called the channel. If you have a knife that was assembled using the sandwich construction model this means that it was put together in layers using screws and pins. This allows the balisong or butterfly knife to pivot and the blade rests within the layers. With the channel construction of a butterfly knife the handle is made from one piece of material. When the knife is closed the blade rests within a space that has been made within the one piece of material. This type of construction is noted as being stronger and more durable than the sandwich construction model.

There are many parts to the Balisong or Butterfly Knife, much more than the blade and the handle. The Bite Handle is the part of the handle that the blade actually rests in, the Safe Handle is the part of the handle that closes on the side of the blade that is not sharpened. There is a Latch that is important because this is what keeps the knife closed. The Latch needs to be released in order to open the knife.

There are several different parts to the Butterfly Knife, not just a blade and handle. The Bite Handle is the part of the handle that the blade actually rests in. The Safe Handle is the piece of the handle that closes on the unsharpened side.

Everything depends on the type of material the handle is made out of, the size of the knife's blade, and the type of construction that was used to make the knife. Cheap blades are also available on the market, but there blades may not last nearly as long.

Many parts of the world have outlawed the butterfly knife. Depending on the size of the blade you may or may not be able to carry one on your person. Some places consider it a "dagger" which is a weapon. In the state of California it is illegal to have a butterfly knife on your person if the blade is longer than two inches.

The technique that can give you great catches is split shooting. Often one has to bear up with the boat rides and end up with nothing, but by mastering this technique you can be sure of landing up with a good catch. It has proved beneficial and the need to apply this technique is therefore essential for fishing. This art of bass fishing as well as other technique should be mastered with practice consequently giving you the fun and joy of bass fishing.

There are many aspects to bass fishing that need to be learnt including know how to master bass fishing in fall months as too during the winter - and, in places such as British Columbia.

Great Rewards

By learning the proper bass fishing techniques you stand to reap great rewards in the form of landing catches that will make wonderful trophies to adorn your living rooms. What's more, it takes a smallmouth bass about eight to ten years to reach a good size; so, after catching such bass it is also necessary that you understand the need to realize how important it is that you use responsible techniques in catching as well as releasing your catch.

Learning the proper techniques for bass fishing during the months of winter to catch bass fish is very important. You will have to your finest gear and completely forget about stuff like rip baits, spinner baits and crank baits.

Among the various techniques for bass fishing that can be used for bass fishing in winter one has to know about splitshotting. This is the most straightforward of all the techniques and one is not required to make more investment in this technique apart from having to use the terminal tackle that is right.

Initially a lot of training goes into split shooting technique, you have to learn to tackle all the problems that you face during bass fishing. The most vital factor is to know the bass bites or how to perceive bass bites. This being the common hitch, needs proper training. Bass bites occur in relation to their movements, which also makes us anticipate the undetectable jerk and regular popping of the bass. Here you also got to learn about the different bites of the bass and recognize if they are pressure bites, or just faint touch or pops.

Though bass are highly inactive in cold conditions they live in various places under various climatic conditions. If you choose the appropriate techniques for bass fishing it will be able to guide to the place which is best suited for fishing bass and understanding the need to stay away from fishing in spots that are sunny and instead settle for places which are shady.

Fishing largemouth bass requires you to learn the appropriate fishing techniques and the tip which needs to be strictly followed in this aspect is the use of worms that are gigantic in size so as to make the largemouth bite. One of the other important techniques that need to be learnt is it is always better to go in for fishing in waters that are shallow and when the weather is cloudy or overcast. While fishing in water that is cold it is important that you pay very close attention when the bait is retrieved as this has to be done slowly because at low temperatures bass reacts very slowly.

Fishing is a little like real estate - it's all about location, location, location! Instead of aimlessly wandering from spot to spot hoping to find a school of fish, a portable fish finder can help you narrow down the areas where the schools may be feeding. However, finding a good fish locator can be as hard as finding the fish! There are different models, with different wattage, screens, and prices. How do you narrow down your options? In this article, we'll explain how these machines work so that you can break down the elements and snag yourself a great bargain.

Portable fish finders are a fantastic gadget which can actually make it easier to locate fish if utilized correctly. Before the invention of this equipment, fishermen used a depth finder that only indicated the deepness underneath the vessel. There was no accurate display indicating the presence of schools of fish. Accordingly, depth finders weren't useful to commercial fishermen. After that came the sounders with printed graphs rolls that were very precise if used properly. But the true breakthrough was the appearance of the LCD (liquid crystal display) sounder that indicated both bottom contours and fish. Currently you can find a wide range of these LCD fish finders.

Picking the best portable fish finder is sometimes challenging since the market pricing is very competitive and products are being updated at all times. High end devices can cost more than the typical dinghy, but plain devices can be completely affordable and cost as little as $300 from a discount fish finder store.

The technology has come some distance since electronic fish finders first appeared on the market. Contemporary devices are more slender, more lightweight and more menu-driven than their predecessors. The units have either color or black and white screens and the displays come in many different sizes. The bigger screens are better suited to larger fishing vessels where they can be kept out of the sun and elements. These are ideal for commercial fishing trawlers.

The key to the effectiveness of a fish finding sonar is its transducer housing. This is essentially the working part that scans the area beneath boat and transmits the information back to the screen where you can see it. By bouncing a sonar signal, you'll be able to see fish, weeds and underwater structures. How quickly this echo signal process takes depends on the portable fish finder wattage, the transducer and the depth of the water. The higher the wattage, the more powerful and quicker the signal is processed from the transducer.

Proper installation and maintenance are key to keeping your portable fish finder in working order. It should be in a convenient place that is out of direct sunlight and rain. A fish locator will be waterproof but prolonged exposure to sun and water will shrink and decay the neoprene casing. You should also make sure that the monitor is well placed. The pixels that make up the image can appear blurry if the angle isn't correct. If you don't have good vision, then you might want to spend a little more on a screen with a higher resolution. By doing your homework and making good choices when shopping, you'll definitely notice a marked volume in your catches.

Bright sun, sandy beaches and scantily clad pretty girls in swim suits. This is the image of Southern California flickering into the minds of millions around the world. There is another part of the "Gold Rush" state which should be noted for cold climate lovers. In the San Bernardino Mountains, Northeast of San Bernardino is a place made by Mother Nature for snowy vacations and getaways. You can go skiing and snowboarding in Big Bear Lake California.

Nearly 7,000 feet above sea level sits mountainous beauty. It's beauty is comparable to any place on earth. There are seven miles of lake bordered by highway 38 to the north, and highway 18 to the south, winding along 22 miles of shoreline. Corralling Big Bear Lake are 4 snow-covered mountain peaks. Where could a more beautiful sight be found for skiers, vacationers and admirers alike?

There are slopes available for all levels of skier from beginner to Olympian. With 75 trails, 20 lifts and 1700 vertical feet, you will find plenty of room for many visitors year round. And, even if there are big crowds, the speedy chains of the lifts will get you where you need to be in no time at all.

The skiing and snowboarding is top notch with well-groomed runs as well as powder runs. But, there are plenty of other things to do besides skiing and snowboarding. Other winter sports include skating and sledding or taking long walks through the wilderness. Strap on a pare of snowshoes and a sign up for a guided tour of the scenery.

In fact, if snow sport is not your thing at all, there are plenty of other things to do including indoor entertainment. There are things for young and old as well. For instance, there is Moon Ridge Zoo. The animals in the zoo have are there because they were injured and brought to the facility for treatment. Many are also rescued animals that will never be released back into the wild because their injuries were too severe. The Moon Ridge Zoo is a great place to visit for the whole family.

You may be the best skier in the world, but at some point you too will wear down and need to rest. At Big Bear Lake, you can go indoors to many places and sit by the fire in cozy furniture and create a new set of memories. There is not much better feeling than coming in from the cold to a warm fireplace, a big chair and some hot apple cider. But, don't think even that is all there is to do in this place.

Some resorts offer babysitting and child care. In many cases, these services can be utilized on and off the slops, allowing for skiing and snowboarding without worrying if the kids are being properly cared for.

Spend your evenings and nights enjoying five star food and top notch theatrical productions. Your time at Big Bear Lake will be full of things to do and may well wear you down like no other vacation. However, the memories you create will be some of the best of your life.

Here are some of the things that I had learned whilst doing a gay Grand Canyon rafting trip. There is very knowledgeable staff that toured us down the river, but by some of the pictures and tid-bits I read a lot while staying for three days. The Canyon was formed by the Colorado River. It took nearly 17 million years to get the shape it has today.

With the steep cliffs that the water and wind had eroded away. It was one of the first national parks in the United States and was dedicated as such by Theodore Roosevelt on Nov. 28, 1906. Although the river is 286 miles long, ranging in width from 4 to 18 miles and is as deep as a mile, it is not the longest river in the world. Nor is it the widest.

Kali Gandaki in Nepal is deeper, while Capertu Valley in Australia is about 1 km. Longer. Nearly 5 million people go to visit the canyon per year which is why they now have enforced a law that requires anyone who has traveled down the river within a single year may only do it once. If you wish to go again, the traveler must wait an entire year before going again.

There are so many things to see from hidden water falls to old native villages hidden within the back parts of the canyon. After all you are on one million acres of land. With so many opportunities for exploration the Grand Canyon brings the explorer out while in safe and capable hands of the guides who have been on this river for more than 75 years.

While camping things to look out for; there are muskrats that live in the area however they are extremely rare. One might come across a beaver or antelope squirrels. You will be able to see loads of pocket mice. And at night a distant howl of a coyote is common.

There are signs posted that show a well fit man walking into the canyon. The sign reads: Each year we rescue hundreds of people from the canyon. Most of them look like him. Or for the more extreme traveler there are rafting trips that will take you on a 17 day rafting adventure through some of the wildest white waters in the United States. - Although one can go for the 2 hour rafting trip which is the one I took.

Gay rafting, with such stunning views and wild life to see, no wonder why the Pueblo people considered the canyon a holy site and made pilgrimages to it for clarity on spirit walks. Many of these 'walks' have left their mark on the faces of the canyon. I know that when I went in 2001 I missed a lot of cool things to see.

Gay Grand Canyon whitewater rafting is an amazing experience of a life time. If you ever get the chance to do it then you should. There are so many breath taking views and it shows only the finest of all creation. It is a thrill, but it is also awesome in its splendour.

The lake is located near the small city of Quitman, Texas on the northern edge of the state in Wood County. This quaint city is a relaxing escape for many trying to get away from the big city for awhile. Lake Fork fishing is famous in this area.

If you're planning a fishing trip to this lake and want to know when the best time to go is, here are some things to consider. This is trophy bass country and bass like to stay in the water temperature between 65 and 75 degrees. If it is too hot they are going to go deeper making it harder for you to catch them. During the summer fishing at night or on a cloudy day would be most favorable.

Spawning season is during the spring months. The females will have laid their eggs and will be searching for food in the shallower waters. They are also active after it rains because the rain brings new nutrients into the water that they need. Anytime the waters are at their favorite temperatures they will go into feeding frenzies and can be easy found in shallower waters.

This lake is mainly known for its Largemouth Bass however there are other varieties of fish residing within the lake as well. There are Bluegill and a couple different species of Crappies and Catfish. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department established this lake and stocked it with over seven hundred thousand Florida Black Bass between 1979 and 1987. Each year around three hundred thousand visitors come here to fish for the big bass.

The best time to fish for the Largemouth Bass is during the spring, fall and winter months. The winter months are the best for the Crappies and the summer months for the Bluegills. Fishing at the lake is sure to be successful any time of the year, it just depends on what you want to fish for.

A three day tournament is held every May called the Legend of Lake Fork. Prizes and cash winnings totaling $237,000 are available at this year's event. The biggest fish caught are awarded the cash prizes. This is determined by the weight and the length of the fish. They must be at least 24 inches or more and 10 pounds or more to be considered a winner. Last years winning bass weighed 13.11 pounds. The enthusiasm of last year's event prompted the sponsors to add an additional day to the tournament.

There are five days during the months of February through May when they host the Lake Fork Team Trail Tournament. Only two people to a team are allowed. They can bring photos back of the fish for consideration as winners if they cannot catch one with a length of at least 24 inches to bring back in. They receive their official photo cards when they register and have their cameras inspected before going on the lake. Bringing in the winning fish or photo of the winning fish will earn them $500.

The first World Championship Bass Fly Fishing Tournament will be held this year. The month of May has been the chosen month to conduct this event. Fishing is not limited to a boat. You can also use a float tube, pontoon or from the shoreline. Twelve hundred dollars is the purse for first place.

The guides that assist visitors with Lake Fork fishing are unique. They are professional and personable making everyone feel like they got their money's worth. They know the patterns of the fish and make each trip a successful catch for novice anglers. They are knowledgeable fishermen and share information on bait, boats and techniques.

If you are searching for a great way to spend your holiday, you may want to consider looking into the Gold Coast region of Australia. Whether you are traveling from within Australia or from somewhere else on the globe, you will find nothing but wonder when you arrive in the Gold Coast. There are three main factors that you should follow whenever traveling. Knowing each of these will allow for a more wonderful holiday experience.

Balance Your Time- The Gold Coast is a beautiful region, scenic and filled with things to do. Having the best possible holiday experience means balancing your lazy days on the beach with days filled with activities. It is a delicate balance, but one that will make for the best possible holiday. Be sure that the day you arrive and the one right before you leave are lazy beach days. Trying to accomplish too many activities is a mistake while visiting this region. Alternate activity days with beach days and you will have the best of both worlds.

Plan In Advance- Try to lay out the important aspects of your travel well in advance. Use the web to gain the information you need and to make reservations. The more you lay out in advance, the less you will leave to chance, and this will make for a most successful holiday.

Knowing Right From Wrong In The Region- When ever you are traveling to an unfamiliar location it is important that you make your self aware of all the rules, traffic laws, and even beach rules of the area. It is also a wise idea to learn about the different terminology of things as well as the language that is spoken. By learning all this before you leave on your trip you will make for a much smoother holiday experience.

Whether you are looking for an adventurous holiday or a lazy, laid back beach holiday, the Gold Coast will not disappoint!

When many people, singles and families alike, think about booking a holiday, many of them would only think about going to the beach for a fortnight's lounging on the beach under the sun and swimming in warm, blue sea.

However, many of the best, most famous beach locations are magnets for crowds of people. It seems that most people like the sand, the sea and the sun. Now some people go to these destinations precisely because they are busy. They like the crowds and the night clubs that appeal to them. Mainly singles go to these kinds of destinations and a holiday affair is not far from many peoples' minds.

Couples and older people may prefer a little less noise, pollution and commotion. However, there are beaches which meet these demands too. Often they are private beaches. Some have hotels on them but some do not. Those that do not frequently have inland beach cottage rental properties instead. These are virtually always self-catering.

When most people think of a beach it is instinctively connected with the sea. However, this need not inevitably be so. There are also inland beaches on lakes and rivers. These beaches are usually referred to as inland beaches. Accommodation can be a problem with even some of the best inland beaches.

Many of these inland beaches are just not well-known enough to make a hotel commercially viable, but some of them have cottage rentals instead. These cottages, or cabins sometimes, can be difficult to find if you do not book early enough. They are frequently complete homes, fully equipped with all the household amenities you have grown accustomed to: a fully furnished living room, multiple bedrooms, bathrooms, and a modern kitchen.

Inland beach cottage rentals are popular because they are usually located right on the water's edge. This makes the bit of beach right before your cottage your private beach. You can sleep on it at night if it's hot, lie there all day or set up a few fishing lines.

In the evenings, you can hitch up with neighbours to have a party or keep yourself to yourself. For this reason, it is a good idea to check photos of the cottage before you make a reservation.

If an inland beach cottage rental sounds right for you, there are thousands to pick from in the United States and Canada. The Great Lakes are a particularly fine place to go. There are excellent locations in the Finger Lakes region of New York state and along Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

You will not regret going on holiday to an inland beach cottage rental property. There are so many variations that there is certainly something for every wallet and every family size. Singles are not so well catered for, but if you want a quiet holiday alone. maybe to study, then this might fitting be for you too.

You can fly into some of these resorts by seaplane, but it is more likely that you will take your own car or a rental car, if you want to get out and do some exploring further afield. Personally, I would rather hire a boat.

If you live in cold weather country you know that a good pair of men's winter boots is becoming more and more important as the earth's temperature continues to drop. Much like the insulation in your home, a well made pair of winter boots will keep your feet warm for years to come.

Winter can be full of surprises so you need to be prepared for the day-to-day weather, as well as the possibility of extreme weather. You can also find a wide array of different winter boots to choose from, so whether you want a pair of boots you can wear to the office, or if you have wide feet and need a boot that accommodates you, or whatever it is you need you're bound to find what you need.

Men's winter boots come in a range of prices and the best thing to do is get your boots when they'll be the least expensive, which is usually in the spring, summer, or even early fall. Investing in a good pair of boots will pay off in the long run if they last you a few winters, and you can get more use out of them in other rainy or cold seasons as well.

I've found that you can minimize your research for the perfect pair of men's winter boots, if you stick to specialty boot shops. It's like having a personal shopper who only brings you the boots you're interested in, and all you'll need to do is pick and choose what you want.

We all know that cold and flu season is not the time to chance having cold feet, so take a minute to find a pair of winter boots that will keep your toes toasty. Procrastinating may cost you.
