On second day of SugarCon, 2012, Guy Kawasaki gave a great presentation…actually the best I’ve ever seen. The award-winning author of Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds and Actions explained how enchantment is a key to connecting with your customers and creating happier and loyal customers.

During the session, he shared exciting ideas of enchantment and how you can put that idea in your organization. He also shed light on importance of Social Media in businesses as this aggressive channel now gives consumers a Voice like no other time in history.

His session was exciting and very refreshing not just for CRM experts, but anyone who wanted to know how to better connect with their customers. Great to be there!!! Now I feel encouraged to be enchanting.

DrupalCon Denver 2012

DrupalCon Denver, held on March 19-23, 2012, ended up with lots of learning and enthusiasm! In the course of five days, the conference witnessed 3 amazing Keynotes (from Mozilla, Acquia and LukeW Ideation & Design), 103 Sessions and 14 Pre-Conference Trainings. Over 3000+ attendees flooded the conference to elevate the spirit of Drupal Community.

Dries Buytaert (Creator of Drupal, Acquia CTO) in his keynote session spoke about the future of Drupal, Drupal 8 and also about the direction Drupal Core is taking. You can watch this keynote video here.

Luke Wroblewski (Digital Product Design Lead, LukeW Ideation & Design) in his keynote explored three key reasons to consider mobile first: mobile is seeing explosive growth; mobile forces you to focus; and mobile extends your capabilities. Watch video here

February Austin PHP Monthly Meetup

Austin PHP Monthly Meetup, held on Feb 09, 2012, was my first major PHP event I attended this year. At the meetup, I had the privilege to meet an excellent group of PHP enthusiasts and programmers. The group had more than 50 attendees came from a wide range of background to share their knowledge and ideas.

The main agenda of this meetup was PHPCloud/DevCloud, Zend Studio where the participation of Zend was the major attraction. Kevin Schroeder, Technology Evangelist for Zend Technologies, gave some great demos on Zend Studio deploying apps on the PHPCloud. Kevin had spoken at several conferences (including ZendCON of course) and is also the co-author of “The IBM i Programmer’s Guide to PHP” and author of “You want to do WHAT with PHP?”

He also illustrated the debugging capabilities of Zend Studio 9.0 through demos. I took it as a great opportunity to take a more in-depth look at PHPCloud, Zend Studio 9 and more!

The conversations carried were interesting, each individual seems to have a good story/background, and I even learned a thing or two!

It was a nice experience meeting with good mix of bright and experienced people and sharing dialog with them. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting with great group of PHP programmers. The response of attendees was awesome and overall this is an excellently run and organized meetup.

T-shirts and stickers were also given away to attendees and I really had good time with enthusiasts folks and great topics !!!

Austin PHP Meetup is a great group of folks interested in developing with PHP in the Austin, Texas area. For last 8 years, this meetup has been organized to provide PHP users an opportunity to teach and learn. Austin PHP is now the fifth largest PHP Group in the world.

OSSCube adds one more Cloudera Certified Developer in its Armor

OSSCube has now one more Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop. Rakesh Kumar has become the Cloudera Certified Developer through the CCDH, the industry's only certification for software developers on Hadoop. He passed the Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop exam after going through a rigorous training program.

Rakesh is also a MySQL certified DBA and Cluster DBA and has trained several engineers for Zend Certification Examinations.

Storm over Open Source looks Unabated, US Government goes Open Source to build Open Source Version of “data.gov”

“The Future is Open Source”, as predicted many times on the Internet, now looks promising as the US government’s affair with Open Source continues to grow. In most recent developments, the US government has begun to open source pieces of data.gov. This is an important milestone not only for the Obama Administration to advance open and transparent government, but also for the open source community.

The open source version [of Data.gov] is being collaboratively developed by the US and Indian governments and its planned to launch the complete open-source code — called Open Government Platform — as early as 2012. As detailed in the report, this will enable governments across the world to create their own open government data sites.

Federal CIO Steven VanRoekel and Federal CTO Aneesh Chopra wrote the following in their jointly penned blog:

“The plan specifically called for an effort under the U.S.-India Strategic Dialogue to produce “Data.gov-in-a-Box” -- an open source version of the United States’ Data.gov data portal and India’s India.gov.in document portal. The U.S. and India are working together to produce an open source version available for implementation by countries globally, encouraging governments around the word to stand up open data sites that promote transparency, improve citizen engagement, and engage application developers in continuously improving these efforts. Technical teams from the U.S. and Indian governments have been working together since August of this year, with a planned launch of the open source product (which is now called the Open Government Platform (OGPL) to reflect its broad scope) in early 2012.”

It also brings good news to Drupal lovers, as Drupal has made inroads into government IT. This open source CMS has been chosen to build the Open Government platform which is a good choice to further strengthen the open source content management system.

Without a doubt, Open Source has already exploded on the enterprise level. The US government and national governments across Europe are also developing a public sector love affair with open source. But what does this initiative really mean for the world of open source?

This also represents a positive challenge for the community as the products/solutions maturity, scalability and security are likely to come under scrutiny like never before. Auditing eyes of analysts and information security experts will also find more face-time now with Open Source solutions.

Hopefully, we can expect to further validate open source in open government and continue to brighten the future for Open Source Innovators and the community.

OSSCube Releases ‘SmartVideo Module’ for SugarCRM Community on Sugarforge

Along with ‘SmartNotifyModule’ release, OSSCube has also excitedly released ‘SmartVideo Module.’ SmartVideo is a video uploading and identification module for SugarCRM. SmartVideo was built for SmartWorks— a large-scale application for management of a Disability Employment Program by Employment Networks, for open source community. Stakeholders at SmartWorks project have happily given consent to release this module in Open Source.

The Kay Center for E-Health Research at Claremont Graduate University (Claremont, CA, USA) worked with OSSCube and selected the SugarCRM platform, as well as BIRT reporting tool, to create the web-based ‘SmartWorks’ application. SmartVideo provides a streamlined interface enabling the Administrator quick and easy upload of videos to SugarCRM. Using the SmartVideo interface produces a standardized blue video icon conveniently located within the module of choice. This icon includes a link to the video and an alt-text description of the video.

Enables you to set up and associate videos with any SugarCRM module or subpanel
Automatically identifies modules and sub panels for selection
Easily upload a video file from local system or simply provide a video URL
Dynamic and flexible way to create video for any SugarCRM account or activity
Easy to search uploaded videos by video name or module type

To create the video upload, simply login to your SugarCRM account, browse the ‘All’ tab (Under marketing tab) and click on SmartVideoin the drop down menu and start creating videoswith your specific view of module or subpanel of module. It supports “SWF",".AVI",".MP4” formats.
