Hi!

Welcome to Origin Mobile’s blog. I’m Ed Hodges the Founder of Origin and I’ll be posting news, advice and views on all things mobile.

It’s been a fantastic year so far. It seems there’s something in the water, companies who would have not thought about mobile campaigns or applications a year ago are now seriously considering them. In part, it’s got something to do with that beautiful device, the iPhone. It seems to me that with the phenomenal rise of the Apple App Store (hitting 1 billion downloads in April in just 9 months) in combination with the sale of more than 20 million iPhones around the world has caught the imagination of big business. Combine this with Nokia’s (soft) launch of its Ovi Store enabling more than 150 million N & E series handsets to download applications and the business case for creating a new marketing and sales channel – right into the consumers pocket – is too tantalizing to look away from.

As a result we’ve never been so busy! Be it consulting on how to take a business mobile, which programming languages and platforms are best for a business or just meeting for a lunchtime chat on the pros & cons of mobile, the buzz for mobile is increasing.

I’ll use this blog to bring you a glimpse of our achievements as well as some of the more important mobile stories that are, in my opinion, changing the direction of the future of mobile.

Incidentally, if you’d like an ‘edutainment’ (where do these words come from?) session about the rise of Mobile Application Stores and a general chat on how you might get involved with mobile, please email me at
