Changing the law in Edinburgh and Westminster

Date: Friday 15 March 2013

Time: 2.30pm

Venue: Draycott Education Centre, 100 Sydney Street, London SW3 6NJ

This is a joint event with SOARS (The Society for Old Age Rational Suicide).

Subject: Changing the law in Edinburgh and Westminster

In the Scottish Parliament, the Independent MSP, Margo Macdonald, will be introducing a new Bill which will allow for a legally assisted suicide, in Scotland, for mentally competent adults who are terminally ill or who are suffering intolerably from a medical condition.

And, at Westminster, Lord Falconer will be introducing an Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Lords which will permit terminally ill, competent adults in the last weeks of life, in England and Wales, to have more choice in controlling the manner and timing of their death.

Peter Warren, the Parliamentary Assistant to Margo Macdonald, will be talking about the possibilities for change in Scotland; and Dignity in Dying has agreed to provide a speaker, from its Board or its Senior Management Team, to consider what might happen in the House of Lords.

All members of FATE and supporters of SOARS are invited to this London meeting.  And, as usual, everyone may bring a guest.  After the discussion, tea and biscuits will be served about 4pm.

If anyone has any questions about this meeting, they should contact either Michael Irwin or Liz Nichols.
