Some claim the name originated with a family of "Whites" (LeBlanc) who lived on the Moselle River in France and when they came to England were called "Moselle-le Blanc" which was anglicized to "Mosellewhite" to distinguish them from other families named White. It is also possible that the family of a Scotsman bearing the name "White" who was knighted near Musselburgh in 1547, added the prefix "Mussel" in their names to identify their relationship with him . Another suggestion which has been put forward is that a family named "White" who lived at Mousehole in Cornwall took the name to prevent confusion with other Whites. There are many spellings of the name, but it is believed that they all belong to the same "Musselwhite" family.

Many of the American Musselwhites trace their ancestry to John Musselwhite, a labourer listed as coming from "Langford", who left Plymouth in England for Plymouth in America on April 5, 1635 on The James" headed for a new life on a far continent. Since my own family's history begins more than one hundred years after this we cannot tie our family to John’s at this time, but the story of the shield is interesting. The following is a description of the Musselwhite coat-of-arms (seen in the background) from the Book of the Musselwhites, assembled in the USA in the 1960s. It's taken from "The Musselwhite and Allied Families" by Kate Britt Biggs, 1961 in a private collection.

"Tradition says that a Mr. Mussel and a Miss LeBlanc desired to retain their surnames at their marriage and became Mr. and Mrs. Musselwhite. The coat-of-arms of the Musselwhite family indicates that two families of equal rank were united. The Musselwhite shield is quartered: the first and fourth quarters representing the male, are composed of two black horizontal bands separated by a gold one and on the black bands are pearl-like circles. Black signifies constancy, gold great generosity and blue is the emblem of sincerity. The second and third quarters of this shield, representing the female’s paternal arms, are composed of two azure blue banks separated by a yellow band and on the blue bands are sheaves of golden wheat.. The knight in armor above the shield is an indication that our ancestor received the high honor of knighthood, and did not assume the coat-of-arms. A wolf rampant is clearly defined on the crest of the Musselwhite coat-of-arms, which evidences that both families used the same crest. The decorations around the shield is the mantling. The knights frequently went on long crusades and used mantling as a protection from the sun. The fanciful twists represent the cuts received in battles and these incisions in the mantling are marks of glory and helped to distinguish his bravery on the battlefields.

Saichō

I have been thinking lately of friends. Jetty and I went to high school graduation this past weekend. A speaker was recalling his years growing up with his classmates and it made me think about my own childhood friends along associated with school. We seemed to have moved every three to four years so I did not have a chance to develop childhood friends. The move was another city and a new school. I have friends from high school that I see occasionally but not often. Friends are good to have.

I recently reconnected with some friends and it was nice to talk about how much we missed each others company and reminiscing. I am fortunate to now have my best friend with me. Jetty's move to NC as been great and we are enjoying our new experiences with each other.

Hope you all are well

deterge

The move went well. We did a lot of climbing stairs on Friday and part of Saturday. We got a late start out of ATL but arrived later that evening. We had the truck unloaded in less then two hours on Sunday morning.

Jetty has been unpacking boxes and working in the garden the past few days. She got to experience a bad storm last night. We had 4.5 inches of rain in about 45 minutes that created some wicked flash floods. The garden looks great.

It has been really nice to have our wishes and dreams come true. Experiencing the time together as been great but we are really looking forward to the wedding in September.

The exercising as been great and Jetty has been very supportive. She even has been getting up early in the morning with me. It is nice. We drink coffee, read the paper and watch the news. It is great.

Anywho.. I rejoined at Gold's Gym on Tuesday. I meet with my trainer Martinez and he/we have a plan. Today I execute the plan by showing up at Golds at 6:00 am and doing a cardio workout. I have to get my cardio up because we start training on May 19th. That means for until the 19th my primary workouts will be cardio.

Hope all is well

Barry

H1N1

I have found the recent topic of Swine Flu H1N1 very interesting. A UNC cheerleader decided the school needed an animal mascot to serve as a symbol, just like Georgia's bulldog and N.C. State's wolf. Two years earlier the Tar Heels had posted a brilliant 9-1 record. The star of that 1922 team was a bruising fullback named Jack Merritt. Merritt was nicknamed "the battering ram" for the way he plunged into lines. It seemed natural to link a mascot with Merritt's unusual sobriquet. Thus, it was decided to purchase a ram named Rameses the First. The ram was introduced before the game with VMI, who was favored to beat the North Carolina Tar Heels. Late in the game, Carolina's Bunn Hackney was called upon to attempt a field goal. Before taking the field, he stopped to rub Rameses' head for good luck. Seconds later Hackney's 30-yard dropkick sailed between the goalposts, giving the Tar Heels a 3-0 victory.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 230px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KCjxvm8HDko/SfCKDGzu6RI/AAAAAAAAC30/iQbhYtN4K64/s320/Rameses1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5327910145151133970" />

jardin

Had a great weekend with Jet in ATL. We eat some great food, went to a museum, and looked for garden supplies. I got an early start back to NC so I was able to get some work done in the garden. I planted seeds for beans, carrots, radishes along with the seedlings for squash, eggplant, cauliflower. The next few days are to be cloudy with a chance of rain. The weather should be clearing up Thursday and through the weekend. I hope to get more stuff planted but I have to save some for Jetty. She does not want to be know as just the weed puller.

ramblin

.

09-10 Heels

Here is team list for the 2009-2010 UNC Men's Basketball Team!

# Tyler Zeller - Forward
# Deon Thompson - Forward
# Ed Davis - Forward
# Marcus Ginyard - Guard/Forward
# Larry Drew II - Guard
# Justin Watts - Guard
# Will Graves - Guard/Forward
# John Henson - Forward
# David and Travis Wear - Small Forward
# Dexter Strickland - Guard
# Leslie McDonald - Guard

wolf-peach

I am hoping to get some stuff in the ground this evening. It will be fun entertaining.

All is well here and hope the same for you!

Barry

sun

Well the sun is shining bright and I am surrounded by four walls and a door. Maybe later today I can do some planting in the garden. Last night Harold and I walked over to the garden that the farmer as put in to admire their seasoned work. Ruth, the wife of the farmer, taught me a great deal about maintaining and weeding the garden last year. We walked up to the top of the hill were they recently had cleared out a bunch of growth of trees and weeds. There was a building there that neither Harold or myself knew about. It was a building that was used to house new born calf's. The building had been covered in weeds and bush. While Harold looked through a window into the building, I gazed out into the field that would soon have Nicotiana growing there. At the tree line stood two deers just staring at us. I had seen deer tracks in the farmers garden while we were admiring their work. I soon will be dealing with too. I checked the garden earlier that evening but no sign of the deer yet.
