For the first time on European soil, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, will be unveiling the new Cayenne GTS, the sporty member of the SUV family, at Auto Mobil International (AMI) in Leipzig on 1 June. The 911 Carrera Cabriolet and the new Boxster will also be celebrating their German fair premieres in the Saxon metropolis.

The new Cayenne GTS’s looks alone leave no doubt as to its sporty focus. The front end with its larger cooling air intakes is borrowed from the Cayenne Turbo, specific side skirts and distinctly wider wheel arches in the same color as the car shape the side view, the attention-getter at the rear end is the dominant roof spoiler with twin-wing profile. The Cayenne GTS is visibly lower slung; the bonnet conceals a 420 hp (309 kW) uprated 4.8- litre V8 engine. An especially dynamically tuned engine and transmission design reinforces the emphatically sporty characteristics, enabling short bursts of speed at any time.

Porsche is unveiling the open top 911 Carrera and new Boxster right on cue for the peak Cabriolet season. Both sports cars are models of lightweight design – less weight and more sportiness, lower fuel consumption and greater comfort.

The Leipzig plant as well will be showcasing itself on the Porsche stand in Hall 3 with interesting details on every facet of car manufacturing and the customer experience programs as well as the latest job offers and information on the plant expansion. The location is being expanded; getting its own paint shop, own body shop and new assembly lines to accommodate production of the new model line Macan. Circa 1,000 new jobs will be created in the medium term.

“Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts,” narrated by Jason Statham, documents the Audi Sport Team Joest as they attempt to seek Audi’s tenth victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2011. When tragedy struck twice, the lone Audi R18 TDI® #2 race car remained to fight three Peugeots. Risks were taken, boundaries were pushed and nerves were rattled. “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts” highlights Audi’s win and documents what unfolded over the next 24 Hours at Le Mans as it became one of the most competitive and gripping races the world had ever seen.

Written and directed by Rob Gehring, produced and edited by Charlie Askew, Rob Gehring, Dave Neupauer, Brian Rosenfield and Scott Thor and Executive Produced by Charles N. Besser, Howard Katz and Steve Sabol, the film follows the gripping suspense as team engineer Leena Gade, drivers André Lotterer, Benoît Tréluyer and Marcel Fässler worked to gain Audi’s tenth Le Mans victory. The tenth win also made history as Gade, who was forced to make many difficult split second decisions, was named the first female race engineer ever to orchestrate a winner at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“Truth in 24 II” Every Second Counts is the third installment of the series. Audi released its first documentary, “Truth in 24” at AFI FEST in 2008, which was also narrated by Jason Statham and chronicled the Audi R10 team and their quest for a third straight outright win of the historic 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2010, “Truth in Motion” followed the U.S. Ski Team’s road to Vancouver chronicling the road to becoming a world-class skier. The day-to-day triumphs and tribulations are documented in an up close and personal way rarely seen by the consumer. All three films, “Truth in 24,” “Truth in Motion” and “Truth in 24 II: Every Second Counts” are available for free on iTunes.

Audi is starting to the Nurburgring 24 Hours from the front row. In Friday’s top 40 qualifying, Christian Mamerow in the Audi R8 LMS ultra took position two on the grid. At the 40th running of the Eifel classic, five Audi R8 LMS ultra qualified for the seven front rows.

As early as on lap one of the top 40 qualifying session Christian Mamerow managed to set a lap time of 8m 19.700s which initially made him the front runner. In the only other timed lap that was permitted Uwe Alzen was the only driver to be quicker once more than the Audi racer. Team Mamerow Racing achieved this remarkable performance in its debut season with the new Audi R8 LMS ultra – Team Director Peter Mamerow had only taken over the GT3 sports car in March. This result marked an especially pleasing outcome of the qualifying event for Audi – particularly since the work of all five Audi teams was not centered on chasing for a single fast time but on thorough and comprehensive preparation for the race.

The second-best Audi driver in the final qualifying session was Frank Stippler. At the wheel of the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Audi Sport Team Phoenix he managed to set the eighth-best time on the 25.378-kilometer Eifel roller-coaster. Three other Audi drivers – Edward Sandström (Speedhunters Team WRT), Marc Basseng (Audi Sport Team Phoenix) and Thomas Mutsch (Raeder Motorsport) – achieved positions eleven to 13. The Audi race experience is starting into the race from rows 13 and 14.

Qualifying marked the conclusion of a very thorough preparation phase of the Audi squads for the Nurburgring 24 Hours. Audi Sport Team Phoenix just like the teams supported by Audi Sport customer racing, Audi race experience, Mamerow Racing, Raeder Motorsport and Speedhunters Team WRT, used the free practice and the first two qualifying sessions to optimally set up the seven Audi R8 LMS ultra cars for the 24-hour racing distance. The work was centered on programs for the suspension set-up, aerodynamics, fuel consumption and the Michelin tires. Until Friday afternoon all cars were converted to the component specifications for the race.

Germany’s biggest race will start at 16:00 on Saturday. From 15:30 on, www.audi.tv will broadcast the entire competition up to the finish by live streaming.

In the newly-introduced top 40 qualifying, Porsche works driver Marc Lieb (Germany) secured a good starting position for the 40th running of the Nurburgring 24 hour race with sixth place. Lieb shares the cockpit of the 911 GT3 R (Wochenspiegel Team Manthey) with fellow factory pilots Richard Lietz (Austria) and Romain Dumas (France) as well as racing professional Lucas Luhr (Germany). The race tomorrow will start at 16.00 hours.

“I’m satisfied with my lap, it was very good and the quickest that we’ve ever driven the Porsche here,” stated Marc Lieb, who won the long distance classic last year with Dumas, Luhr and Timo Bernhard. “I lost maybe one or two tenths of a second but it’s nothing serious. Even if I’d driven an absolutely faultless lap, I still couldn’t have made up the missing three seconds to the fastest. We’re also happy with the balance of the car. A lot can happen in 24 hours.”

Also pleased with their time was the second Wochenspiegel quartet in a 911 GT3 MR. Securing 19th in qualifying, the Nordschleife expert Jochen Krumbach (Germany) was the second best Porsche pilot amongst the top 40 qualifiers. Under the direction of Olay Manthey, the most successful team boss at the endurance classic with five overall victories, Krumbach teams up with his compatriots Oliver Kainz, Michael Jacobs and Georg Weiss. “All in all I’m happy with my lap time. After all, 8.26 minutes over more than 25 kilometres is very good under these circumstances,” said Krumbach.

Porsche factory pilot Marco Holzer (Germany) was somewhat disheartened with his 21st spot on the grid: “I wasn’t able to properly use the tyre grip on my fastest lap. But our set-up is good, so we won’t let it get us down. Our motto is now to look ahead, have a trouble-free race and make the best out of it.” The 22-year-old shares the 911 GT3 R fielded by Manthey-Racing with Porsche works drivers Joerg Bergmeister (Germany) and Patrick Long (USA) as well as Nick Tandy (Great Britain), the reigning champion of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland.

Taking up the race directly behind Holzer are three other 911. Position 22 is occupied by the driver line-up Sabine Schmitz, Klaus Abbelen, Christopher Bruck (all Germany) and Patrick Huisman (Netherlands). Taking up the marathon from the 23rd spot in Timbuli Racing’s 911 GT3 R are Marc Hennerici, Marco Seefried, Dennis Busch (all Germany) and Norbert Siedler (Austria). Christian Menzel (Germany), Emmanuel Collard (France), Mike Stursberg (Germany) and H.G Riegel (Germany) secured the 24th starting position for the Haribo Racing team. The second 911 run by Timbuli Racing starts from the 33rd spot.

Falken Motorsports under the direction of Sven Schnabl was not permitted to participate in the top 40 qualifying because it inadvertently went out on the track too early during the last practice. Like last year, at the wheel of the 911 GT3 R are four experienced and well-rehearsed pilots. Joining Porsche works driver Wolf Henzler (Germany) for the 24 hour chase are Sebastian Asch (Germany), Martin Ragginger (Austria) and Peter Dumbreck (Great Britain) driving for the Falken Motorsports squad.

The top 40 qualifying was introduced for the 40th anniversary of the race. The criteria to take part in the top 40 qualifying were the results of the first three Nurburgring Long Distance Championship races as well as the qualifying results of the 24 hour event. The qualifying order is then allotted. At about five-second intervals, the vehicles went out onto the track where a formation lap and two timed laps followed. The 24 hour race takes off tomorrow at 16.00 hours. TV station Sport1 broadcasts the entire race via live-streaming on sport1. The TV station also provides extensive coverage from the Nurburgring.

Former Champ Car and Indy Lights racer, Dan Clarke, had the perfect start to his sports car career at New Jersey Motorsports Park last Sunday. The Indianapolis, Indiana based Englishman totally dominated the Intercontinental Trophy Cup Series in his Isringhausen Motorsports with Chris Smith Racing Porsche Cayman. “Speedy” Dan more than lived up to his nick name by topping the time sheets in every session, qualifying the car in pole position, 1.4 seconds quicker than the field, winning both 25 lap races and picking up fastest lap in each.

Clarke was offered the chance to drive the 330 bhp Porsche Cayman S car and did not need to be asked twice. “Having spent much of last year coaching team boss Geoff Isringhausen, I was delighted when I was able to complete the deal to race the car in both events in New Jersey”, Dan explained. He went on to describe how much fun the car was to drive and how great it felt to be back on the top step of the winners podium. “I had pole positions and good results in Champ Car but nothing beats the feeling of driving into victory lane.” The Yorkshire born driver has clearly regained thirst for victory, “I would love to do more races this season for Geoff’s team, they are a terrific set of guys and do a really professional job at every event”.

Team mate and Clarke’s student, Geoff Isringhausen was thrilled with his coach’s efforts. “Isringhausen Imports was voted one of the top 25 Porsche dealers in the USA for 2012 and I love the fact that Dan along with Chris Smith Racing is helping Isringhausen Motorsports mirror the performance and achievements of our showrooms on the race track”.

The next round of the series for the Porsche Cayman S cars will take place on June 3rd at Watkins Glen, New York and Clarke is eager to keep this developing hot streak alive, “Geoff and I are working hard to ensure that I can maintain this momentum at the Glen next month and hopefully for the rest of the season”.
