5 Reasons Why You Fail In Blogging

In this Guest post I’m gonna tell you why you have been failing in Blogging till now. You all might be knowing at least a couple of bloggers who do a living online. What makes them succeed when you haven’t made a penny out of it? The truth is very simple. You were just missing a few points regarding Blogging. I think you all know that sometimes simple things make bigger impact. And this is what you have been missing. Just Reading and following professional Bloggers is not sufficient [ in fact not good at all ] to succeed in Blogging. This is why I have a compiled a short list specifying 5 Reasons why you are still failing in Blogging as a career :

1) Because you were constantly thinking about great ideas and you were constantly dreaming about becoming like Problogger but never took ACTION! In short you were not an ACTION-TAKER. Sometimes you should just stop thinking and do what you thought the earlier day. Else you will be thinking all those ideas without ever knowing if they would work or not.

2) You were afraid you will fail.

3) You never kept in mind that most bloggers failed again and again until one day it clicked for them. Do you think all those biggies earned the name they have now since the first day? Not at all!

4) You did not know what you are capable of? If you are thinking of starting a blog like Problogger then think again and again. Especially if you have just been blogging for a few months and never yet had success in making money online then you should consider this seriously. Because it is really really hard to develop one. There are very high possibilities that you will fail in getting decent traffic or subscribers. And failure will surely make you quit blogging. So decide if you really are capable of doing things and then start doing them.

COOL TIP : Do you want to start a successful blog that could go viral like Darren Rowse? Then you can start a make money online blog with all those screenshots of your earnings from different ad networks and affiliates – I’m very sure it would have tremendous success and you would rapidly develop a huge subscriber base.

5) You got into affiliates without knowing much – affiliates are the best way to make serious money but i strongly believe that generating nice income through affiliates would need you to invest some money. I’m not saying that ALL people who make money through affiliates invest money but the process becomes easier and less tiresome if you do spend money [like you could try out the PPC campaigns and experiment more if you are ready to spend money].

So don’t just stop with reading blogs about Make money online and blogging-related Blogs but try everything for yourself now!! There are very high possibilities that you could set a new trend in blogging rather than following the trends introduced by probloggers. Good Luck!

Ad Swaps: A Smart and Easy Way to Get Free Traffic

After yesterday’s post , I decided to follow up with a strategy you can use to get quality free traffic. One of the easiest ways to get visitors to your web site is to spend money. Nothing is more effortless then paying for traffic. But if you can’t afford it or don’t want to pay, there’s an equally simple but free way to get traffic: ad swaps.

An advertisement swap or ad swap is simply an arrangement where you agree to put up someone else’s ad on your site or email newsletter in exchange for them doing the same.

The goal of an ad swap is mainly to get exposure for a specific purpose, such as selling products/services or improving awareness of your brand/site. This is different from a link exchange because you are not seeking to improve your search engine rank.

The link value doesn’t matter at all. What matters is getting visitors into your web site.

Four Pre-Requisites for a Successful Ad Swap

For an ad swap to be successful and fair, there are four pre-requisites to be fulfilled:

Equal traffic and exposure: Both parties ought to have websites that receive a steady amount of visitors everyday, or an email list with a decent amount of subscribers. Otherwise, there is no meaning in setting up an ad swap in the first place. Ad swaps are most agreeable when both parties have an equivalent audience reach/traffic count.
Fair and Good Ad placement: Traffic flows more easily to you when your ad is displayed in a spot which is easily viewable and accessible by visitors. While site designs may differ, both parties should endeavor to exchange ads that are displayed in a similar fashion. A pop-under does not capture visitor attention in the same way as a site-wide banner, so seek to use equivalent ad formats too.
High Relevancy: In the best scenario, an ad swap should occur between websites in the same niche, as both parties would benefit from a trade in visitors with an already established interest on the same topic. But it is possible for trades to occur for sites in different niches. The essential point to remember is that your ad/message MUST be relevant to the page or site where it is placed and vice versa for your ad partner.
No Conflicting Purpose. If you’re a merchant selling a product or a firm offering a service, you should not do ad swaps with competitors (other merchants/firms in the same niche). However ad swaps can be done for joint promotion of a specific event or shared project. You also should not do an ad swap with a site that contradicts your brand’s ethos or image (e.g. PETA doing an ad swap with Kentucky Fried Chicken).

There is one more important factor and that’s networking. Webmasters and bloggers are often inundated with requests for link trades: they have a defensive barrier against requests from strangers. Unless your site has some reputation or authority in your niche, ad swaps usually need to be prefaced with an established relationship.

People are far more likely to do ad swaps after they become more comfortable with you, when they don’t see you as a leech but a potential benefit. So keep this in mind as well when you aim to fulfill the four other prerequisites.

Seek Quality Ad Partners, Don’t Settle For Anything Less

You may be familiar with the traffic exchange networks of the past (and present), places where webmasters can go sign up, submit their site and browse through each other’s websites in order to earn viewing credits that can be converted into pageviews for their own site.

It’s all about trading incentivized glances in a merry-go-round of self-interest. You look at my site, I look at your site. Everyone is happy. And it goes on ad nauseam.

Even though these pageview-trading rings are called traffic exchanges, they aren’t useful because you don’t get truly targeted and interested viewers, people who click through to your site because they were honestly compelled by curiosity or desire, not because they want more hits to their own website.

I bring up the topic of the old-school traffic exchanges to emphasize the importance of having a quality ad swap. One should carefully select ad partners because you need to maximize your returns with a limited inventory: you only have that much ad space to trade.

Your goal is to get the best quality visitors from your ad. To achieve that, you must try to only trade with websites that have a quality audience. Don’t do ad swaps just because someone asked you to, it could end up being a waste of time and ad space.

You probably know how to find quality ad partners already, as you should be familiar with your niche. If not, find them by doing a Google search for your site’s keywords.

If you can’t set up a good ad exchange because your site doesn’t get enough traffic, try again after you’ve developed a greater audience. Or you can negotiate with more popular sites by reducing the display length for your ad against their ad, although even that may not work.

Types of Ad Swaps You Can Set Up

All ad swaps can be measured with tracking links and analytics so both parties can compare how many hits they received with the clicks they sent out. If you’re doing an ad swap with a friend or prefer a looser agreement, you can forgo click data and stats altogether. The choice is up to you. Here are some ad swap formats you can use.

On-site Banners and Text Links. This includes banners of all sizes and text links on a site-wide basis or on specific webpages. Includes blog post promos.
Email Newsletters. Involves inserting a mention of your ad partner’s website or product/offer. This can be accompanied by a personal endorsement or not.
RSS Feed Ads. These are either text links or image banners placed within an RSS feed.

Some Extra Tips and Recommendations

One guideline I follow is to never send traffic to my homepage or any page that is unoptimized. A custom landing page must be created for each ad swap. I can design it for the purpose of capturing leads (freebie + opt-in) or set it up so that it becomes a welcome page (’Hello, visitors from Site A!’) with a short introduction and deep links.

I also pay special attention to the ad banners used. Banners that reference your partner’s site name or brand tend to get better click throughs, although you should get permission first. Sometimes they do not want to appear as if they were endorsing your site, although they are already implicitly doing so by having your ad up.

Ad Swaps Aren’t Hip Now But They Still Work

While it’s a common email marketing practice amongst internet marketers, I don’t often read about ad swaps being recommended as a traffic strategy for bloggers or webmasters. There were a few ad trading networks around but none of them really caught on for some reason.

Perhaps it sounds archaic and boring compared to all the super cool social media viral marketing buzz building tactics being promoted right now by all the experts. Yes, ad swaps may sound dull but they still work if you know how to do them right. If you’ve got ad space you can’t sell, why not give it a shot? You have nothing to lose at all. ^_^

All the bloggers have their unique purposes in blogging, some of them blogging to make money online, some of them blogging for their interest, some of them blogging to note down their personal rant, etc. However, most of them quit blogging due to some reasons.

I’m a blogger who writes about make money online tips, yet a well known MMO blogger but I enjoy sharing make money online tips, communicating with my readers, sharing experiences and lastly, I make money online. Blogging can be a hobby, but it can be a poison too, you’ll be addicted once you started it. Once you start blogging, you won’t be quitting forever because blogging has lots of fun. It goes same to me, I’ve been blogging for a year and I never think of quit blogging, I love make money blogging and I take it as a business, a job. Hence, I’ll be building more and more profitable niche blogs to make money online.

But why there is still a lot of bloggers quit blogging?

7 Reasons Why Blogger Quit Blogging

1) Laziness
This is the killer attitude of a blogger, quit blogging because of lazy is a stupid reason. I believe that most of the bloggers are lazy to update their blog, lazy to look for resources and write killer articles. I admit that I had this attitude even now, but I never think of quit blogging. Remember, you don’t have boss in blogging, no one force you to blog, you can write whenever you want, you are the boss in blogging. It’s depending on how aggressive are you to update your blog, the more often you update, the more traffics you could bring in, the more money you could generate. This is the rules, so lazy is not a good reason to quit blogging.

2) No improvement on Pagerank or SERPS
I believe that Pagerank and better SERPS are the excitant or stimulant that push you to write more, isn’t? But don’t forget, Google evaluates your blog by looking at your backlinks, how strong and quality is your backlinks, how many high PR blogs link to you. Google will give you higher Pagerank and better SERPS for the keywords you target by judging your backlinks. With that said, blogger who lazy to update their blog and nearly dead, there shouldn’t be any changes on the pagerank and SERPS for their blogs. Blogger who thirst for the pagerank and higher SERPS to make money online, they will quit blogging if they can’t achieve what they want for a long period. 3) Low Traffic
Traffic is what every bloggers want for their blogs, to be famous or to make money online. Bloggers who can’t see any improvement on the traffics even though they tried very hard to update and improve their blogs, eventually they give up and quit blogging. 4) Low Readership
It can be related to low traffic, if you don’t have traffics in your blog, nobody read your blog and nobody know how good is your blog, of course you don’t have readership. In order to build up a good readership, the first thing is writing quality and useful article that helps people, 2nd thing is you should know how to promote your blog to the public. 5) No mentors
I believe that every bloggers in various niches should have their mentors, isn’t? I have lots of mentors in my blogging journey, I learned blogging tips, make money online tips, traffic building tips, SEO tips from all of them, I appreciated the way they taught and wrote in their blogs. So, bloggers who don’t have any mentors in their blogging journey, they will never improve, they will feel bored of doing the same thing everyday with their blog. This is one of the reason bloggers quit blogging.

6) Can’t Make Money
I believe that most of the bloggers blog to make money online, me too. Money is the stimulant that push us to work harder, I’ll feel proud of myself and feel happy if I could make money through internet. In this way, I’ll work harder and put more effort on my blog. Of course, not all the bloggers able to make money through their blogs. They never put effort on their blog, they want to make money through their blog but they can’t, eventually they quit blogging. This is the critical reason that most of the bloggers quit blogging, trust me.

7) Financial Problem
Bloggers who have their own hosting and domain, they have to pay the hosting fees every month or year. It goes same to me, I pay about $150 for the hosting and domains fees every year, I make money online through my blogs to pay my hosting and domains fees. Between, there are many bloggers who not able to make money through their blogs, they’re not afford to pay their hosting and domains fees. Eventually, they quit blogging. Don’t forget, there is many free blog platform such as blogger.com, wordpress.com, and etc. One of my friend gave me a reason like this, I told him that he can blog for free in bloggger.com or wordpress.com, end up he told me that he was lazy (#1 point).

What Is Your Thoughts

12 Steps How To Build A Profitable Niche Blog

Recently I’ve gone through and collected a list of “66 Professional Blogger You Should Follow“, I found that lots of bloggers love to read a collection post like these as they don’t have to waste time searching around the web. In previous post “How To Make Money Online During Recession“, I’d told you that I’ll write up a post and teach you how to build a profitable niche blog to make money online with Google Adsense. So as promised, I’ll be telling you how I build a profitable niche blog in this post.

In order to build a niche blog and make money online with Adsense, there are lots of works need to be done, but if you know the steps and techniques, you’ll be able to done it in few minutes. Of course, few minutes is the time to setup a niche blog, it doesn’t include the time for writing content. In the process of making money online in building a niche blog, in my opinion the critical part is writing content and keyword optimization. Besides these, choosing the right keyword is very important too, this is the main key and very first step that determine whether can your niche blog getting traffics and generates incomes.

Profitable Niche Blog

I’ve been building a few niche blogs which can be considered profitable niche blogs as they do bring me decent income from Adsense. I just think that one blog couldn’t be able to make you rich, but hundred niche blogs do. Therefore, we have to continuously building dozens of different niche blogs. Of course, I’m not talking about building blog like Problogger or JohnChow, they have very strong background and loyal readers, they have different style of making money online, they can make lots of money by just selling banner ads. In this post, I’m talking about building a profitable niche blog to make money online with Adsense, don’t get me wrong. Of course this make money online blog not to build to make money online with Adsense. This is my first blog, I created this blog for my interest and share make money online tips that I’d learned in my blogging journey. However, I’d made a decent income from this blog too.
Step-By-Step How To Build A Niche Blog

I’d written an article in the past about “how to start a blog that makes money”, it only had general tips. So now I’ll be writing an article and teaching you step-by-step in details :

1) Keyword Research
Keyword research is the very first step before you can building a niche blog. You should ask yourself what is your interest, what topic that you can write non-stop, or topic that you’ve enough reference material (Brochures, books, etc.). Dropping down a list of 10 topics that you would like to build a blog, now you can do your keyword research in Google Adwords Keyword Tool for all 10 topics. Pick 1 topic, insert all the relevant keywords for the topic. Let’s say the topic is “Nike Sport Shoes”, so you may insert “Nike”, “Sport Shoes”, “Shoes”, and press “Get keyword ideas”. You could get dozens of relevant keywords in the result.

2) List Out Potential Keywords
From the result of keyword research, pick the profitable keywords that have lesser competitor (About 500,000 or less is ideal), higher searches and higher estimated average CPC rate. List them down in a paper or a notepad in your PC, collect as much as you can so that you’ve more keywords to optimize.

3) List Out Title Of Posts
Before starting to build your niche blog, try to list out few posts that you’re going to post them in the blog. Don’t let your mind blank and out of topics after you’ve setup your blog, else you’re wasting your time. I drafted or wrote 3-5 articles before buying the domain and do setup, so that I can feed my blog with few articles and promote it. Usually I don’t promote it to the public as I want organic traffics from search engine more than direct traffics or referral traffics.

4) Buying Profitable Domain Name
So I assume you have your own hosting and domain, else you couldn’t be able to continue the following steps. So you need a profitable domain name for your niche blog now. Profitable domain name means domain that contains of the keyword that you want to optimize. If your keyword is “Sport Shoes”, try to get domain like www.sportshoes.com or www.sport-shoes.com or so, try to get domain that contains your keyword. You can read how to cheaply buy a profitable domain names too.

5) Install Wordpress Blog Platform
After you’ve bought your domain, now you may install the Wordpress blog platform, either using Fantastico or install manually. Fantastico is features in your hosting cpanel, most of the hosting provide this, so that you can setup your blog in seconds. Else, you have to install your Wordpress manually by uploading all the file to your FTP.

6) Upload .htacess
If you’ve 2nd blog and install your Wordpress, I think .htaccess shouldn’t in your Wordpress folder. You have to duplicate a .htaccess from the main blog, delete the data insides the duplicated .htaccess, save it and upload it to your Wordpress folder. Remember to set it to Chmod 777, this was what I did before I was able to change the permalinks.

7) Upload Wordpress Plugins
So now you can download, upload and install your wordpress plugins. Usually there are 4 wordpress plugins that I used for my niche blogs, they are “All-In-One-SEO-Pack”, “Google-Sitemap-Generator”, “Related-Posts” and “Social-Bookmarks”, copy the exact words and search in Google search engine, you could get tonnes of result that point you to the donwload page.

8 ) Upload Adsense Optimized Themes
We want to make money online with Adsense, of course we need to have Adsense Ready themes for better earning. DoshDosh had a list of 16 Adsense Optimized Wordpress Themes, pick one and download. Remember to set all the file insides the themes folder to Chmod 777, so that you could be able to edit the themes coding.

9) Setup Google Sitemap
You’ve downloaded, uploaded and installed the “Google-Sitemap-Generator” Wordpress Plugin, you’re required to upload 2 folder to your FTP Wordpress folder. Open a notepad and save it as “sitemap.xml”, open another notepad and save it as “sitemap.xml.gz”. Upload this 2 files to your FTP Wordpress folder. Set it to Chmod 777 so that Google can update your Sitemap. After these, you’ve to submit your Sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools.

10) Install Google Analytics
You’re recommended to install a Google Analytics to track your traffics so that you can improve your blog by tracking the traffics. This is an important tool, so you must install this. In order to make more money online, you have to know where is your traffics come from (Direct, referral or organic), what keyword they search to reach your blog, etc.

11) Insert Google Adsense
After you’ve setup all of these, you can now insert your Google Adsense into the your blog. Before these, I recommend you to post up at least 1 article to your blog, so that Google can putting relevant Adsense ads in your blog. You can skip this step first because most probably you won’t be getting any clicks in the first week until Google has indexed your page. Between, you can learn how to get highest rate per click for your Adsense too.

12) Update And Optimize Keyword
You’ve actually done the setup process, the only thing you should do now is updating your blog and optimize keyword in the articles. You have to optimize your keyword correctly, you should learn some basic SEO techniques.

These are the steps that I’ve been repeating over and over again to build my niche blogs. So you’ve done one niche blog right now, you have to be patience to update your blog with unique content in the first week, so that Google can index as much as you have. The more pages have been indexed, the more organic traffics you have, the chances of they click your Adsense ads will be higher, eventually you could be able to make more money with your niche blog. Repeating the same steps over and over again for all your niche blogs, your Adsense earning will be increasing day by day from now.

Remember, make money online by blogging not 1 or 2 days job, you have to work hard and put effort and make it grows. Make Money Online Blogging for Free

There are several ways to make money online for free but one of the easiest ways is through a simple blogging process using blogger.com and other free blogging platforms. You can set up as many blogs as you want on these free blogging services without ever having to pay anything for your blog.

Here’s a simple blogging plan that you can do for free, or very cheap, to make money online:

The first thing you need to do in order for this to work is find a niche comprised of people willing to spend money and not just full of free information seekers. A few of examples of these niches are weight loss, fitness, making money, expensive hobbies, and gadgets. People in these niches are typically willing to spend money so you have a better chance at converting your traffic into income. Don’t target the main keywords in these niches because they will be way too competitive. Instead, you need to find smaller niches within the main niche.

After you have found a good niche to target you will set up a free blog on the topic that you chose. Then, write 10 blog posts on different keywords within the niche. You can also use PLR articles if you don’t want to write that much. It will cost you some money but still a cheap alternative. Just make sure you rewrite them a little so they aren’t exactly the same as everyone else who also bought them.

After the first 10 original posts that you have written yourself or got from PLR and rewrote, you can take articles from a directory like ezinearticles.com and post them on the blog so you can spend your time marketing the site to build traffic to it. Article directories have plenty of articles that you can use in almost any niche; you just need to be sure to keep the author’s resource box intact with a live link to their site.

You can also add a little blurb to the beginning and end of each article so they aren’t completely duplicate content for the search engines. A paragraph or two saying whether or not you agree with the article, bring up something else that they left out, or just state that you think it’s a useful article.

The next thing you need to do is apply for a Google Adsense account and put the ads on the blog after you are approved. You will earn a certain amount of money every time someone clicks on the Adsense ads on your blog. It can range from a few cents up to several dollars per click depending on the niche and how well your site is optimized. Google will send you a check each month or deposit the money directly into your bank account. Just be sure to read the Adsense terms of use, program policies, and rules and strictly abide by them or they will cancel your account. Definitely make sure that you never click on the ads on your own sites because you will quickly lose your account by doing that.

Traffic and links take some time to build up but they are not difficult to do. You can get links and traffic by commenting on dofollow blogs, submitting articles to article directories, doing link exchanges, submitting your blog to link directories, social bookmarking, guest blogging, buying links, and several other ways. What you are mostly looking for is keyword anchored links from relevant sites to increase your search engine rankings but any link is better than nothing.

After you have built somewhere around 100 different backlinks to your blog then create another blog and do it all over again. Your new blog can be in a related niche or something completely different. Do this over and over again with as many blogs as you can. The money you make will be minimal at first but your efforts will eventually start to gain momentum and you will start seeing more and more money coming in.

Make sure you don’t forget to go back and build more links to your older blogs every once in a while to keep increasing the traffic to them. After you build a new blog just go back to some of the others that you have already done and get a few more links for them. This will help increase your search engine rankings and bring more visitors to your blogs so you continue to make money online free with very little effort.

When you start getting a large number of blogs built it will be difficult to work on them all, so put them in some sort of rotation to make sure you get to each of them equally. As you get more experience you will start to figure out which niches require more work to gain and keep rankings, and which ones you can spend much less time on. Then you can adjust the time you work on them as needed.

That’s all there is to it. Follow this simple niche blogging plan and you can make money online for free. This is one of the best ways to build an online home business if you take the time to do it right. Of course, you will need to learn how to find profitable niches, set up blogs, build backlinks, and do a few other things but all of that can be learned for free by simply searching on Google and asking questions on forums.

Why Bloggers Fail To Make Money By Blogging

Let’s face it, the majority of blogs trying to make money online won’t make anything. As a matter of fact, if your blog makes more than $100 per month, you’re doing better than 98% of 120+ million blogs out in the blogsphere. Pretty sad, huh? Why is it that so many bloggers fail to make money from their blogs? One thing is for sure, It’s not from lack of information. There are tons of information on the Net, both free and paid, that can teach you more than you want to know about making money by blogging. But still, the vast majority of bloggers won’t make anything. Why?

They Don’t Take This Seriously

Most people start their blogs for fun and not to make money. That is how John Chow dot Com started. I created this blog as an outlet for me to ramble about whatever was on my mind. I never intended for the blog to make money. As a matter of fact, I donated all the income the blog made in 2006 to charity because making money from a personal blog seemed kinda strange at the time.

Because most bloggers work on their blogs for fun, they don’t take it as seriously as they should. Many are doing the “Let’s give this a try and see what happens” approach. If the blog makes money, great. If not, oh well. With that kind of attitude, it’s not hard to understand why so many bloggers don’t make money with their blogs.

They Didn’t Put Any Money Into It

One of blogging biggest advantages is also one of its biggest liabilities. With services like Blogspot.com, you can literally start a blog with zero dollars. If you want a more professional look, a domain name cost only $8.95 and hosting can be had for as low as a few dollars per month.

This extremely low barrier of entry also means you don’t have much, if anything, to lose. Should the blog fail to make money, you curse me, say I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about and move on. This brings us back to point number one. It cost you nothing to start so you don’t take it seriously.

If blogging cost $100,000 or more to start, would you be running your blog the way you’re running it now? I highly doubt it. Yet, a blog can provide so much more than a traditional $100,000 brick and mortar business. You’re not tied to a location and the time freedom is unmatched.

Knowing that commitment increases with money, the solution is simple. Put some money into your blog. Buy that domain name, get that professional web hosting account, invest in a custom design, spend some money on promotion, etc. Once you have some money tied into it, you’ll take things a lot more seriously.

Easy In, Easy Out

Because of the low cost of entry, most bloggers take an easy in, easy out attitude. It cost nothing to get in so if it doesn’t make any money, it cost them nothing and they can get out without being tied down to anything.

They Don’t Treat It Like A Business

Most blogs never get out of the hobby stage. A money making blog is a business and it should be treated as such. Yes, I still consider John Chow dot Com as my hobby but I run the blog as a full blown business. The blog has its own set of books and bank accounts. All income and expenses are tracked and accounted for.

If you really want to make money by blogging, you need to get serious about it and treat your blog like a real business. Blogging is a not a fly by night or get rich quick scheme. Like any business, it take time, money and commitment to build. For the first eight months of this blog’s life, it made zero and barely got more than 1000 page views per day. But I kept at it. I treated the blog like I treated my other businesses. I invested in it, I spent thousands of dollars improving it and promoting it.

Success is never by accident. All the big money making bloggers didn’t get there by luck or taking the attitude of easy in, easy out. They got there by taking their blogging seriously and treating their blogs like a business. You should too.

6 Fool-Proof Steps to Make More Money With Your Website

Every website has a bunch of web pages which get more search traffic than others. These pages are constantly visited daily by new visitors, people who have never seen the site in question before. I call these ‘money pages’ because they are a reliable source of immediate and future income.

But they’re not just ‘money’ because they bring in revenue: they are one of the easiest ways to grow your audience without much work. If you learn how to optimize these money pages (its not hard to do), you’ll really improve your website in so many ways. More revenue, more members, more influence and authority. Doesn’t that sound good?

I’ve talked very briefly about money pages in my previous post on analyzing your site visitors and decided to expand a little more on this topic because I think its often overlooked by webmasters. We’re always focused on creating new content and getting new visitors to these new pages that we forget about what’s going on in other parts of our website.

This is tailored towards content publishers and bloggers but the main strategies here apply to other site types as well, you just need to find the right tools to do it. So lets get started.

How to Optimize Your Money Pages

There are many things you can do to money pages, in order to make them better or more profitable. It’s important to decide the extent of your work according to your goals and resources. How much time do you want to spend and what’s most important to you? Do you want a bigger readership? Or are you just concerned with increasing your daily revenue?

Here are a list of things you can do for your money pages:

Monetize. The aim here is to get more revenue out of each page. There are various ways to achieve this and they generally involve the placement of ads both around and within content. There is also an indirect future revenue from lead capturing.
Capture Leads. The money page is optimized to encourage a visitor to subscribe to your mailing list, site feed or register for your website. The main aim is to find a way to continue to reach your visitors after they leave your money page. This helps to grow your site audience and is also a component of revenue generation.
Improve Relevance. This involves revamping the money page in order to provide up-to-date information or better content in order to accommodate visitor needs. This provides an improved user experience for all and can result a host of benefits like more referral/citation links and greater visitor loyalty/trust. Relevance is also important when your main goal is to capture leads or increase revenue.
Make it Rank Better. Doing on-site and off-site optmization will help specific money pages to rank better on the search engine result pages, hence driving more traffic back to your site. This increases your site reach and revenue at the same time.

Step 1: Find Your Money Pages

Open up the web analytics program you’re using for your website. There should be a section which reveals which pages have the highest unique views per month. Extract the urls for the top 10 pages and put them somewhere for easy access. Or bookmark them on your browser. If you don’t currently use an analytics tool, I recommend setting up Google Analytics.

How many pages you choose to optimize really depends on your website and preference. If you have a lot of webpages that get solid traffic, you can do more. If you don’t have many pages that get web traffic, then you have a lesser amount to work with. I like to focus on the top 10 because if its a manageable amount of work for an acceptable returns on investment.

My personal guideline is to only work on pages with a minimum of 200 unique views everyday. It’s a basic number that’s good for some decent conversions. Adjust this figure to something you can work with, if your website is new or gets less overall traffic.

The point to remember is that not every page is hot. The goal is not to optimize every single web page you have. There has to be a limit. So learn to prioritize and work only on the pages that are currently receiving the most traffic to your website.

Step 2: Improving Content Relevance

Visitor search queries reveal what people are looking for and what they want to get from your web page. It tells you what information they expect and is a way to understand their desires or needs. Many are ready to pay for a solution or subscribe to get knowledge in their inbox.

Better relevance = better conversions. It’s that simple. By making your website as relevant as possible to search queries, you’re making visitors more likely to stick around, opt-in or buy. Users are going to click away if they find that your web page doesn’t fulfill their info needs. So the first step is closely examine your money pages in relation to search traffic terms.

My goal is to include every search query in my money page. Every question typed into search engines by visitors who access my site must be answered. One very easy and quick way to do this is to add a simple FAQ to the page to address the visitor’s specific needs. Just phrase the same exact search query as a question. Then write an answer which responds to it.

Another method for search query relevance is to create new content and insert it into the money page. It’s important to edit your pages so that it doesn’t display content that is simply outdated or useless. You’re not going to presell anyone with stuff like that. It won’t work.

Either rewrite the entire money page or include update notes specifying new information and linking to other pages on your website with newer content. Whenever new information or changes occur, go back into the money page to make necessary adjustments. This is one reason why I asked you to keep those 10 URLs bookmarked or easily accessible.

Note that by increasing your money page’s relevance and informational value, you are also increasing its linkability: People are more likely to link to it because it is a detailed and useful reference page on the topic. Whenever possible, I try to fashion my money pages on blogs after Wikipedia in terms of comprehensiveness.

Step 3: Monetizing Your Money Page

While you can monetize your money page and capture leads at the same time, I find it better to optimize for one goal instead of trying to achieve both. Because when it comes to monetization, captured leads are usually a good source for long term income anyway.

There are formats for each goal (monetize or lead capture) and you’ll get better results if you either choose to monetize fully or go all out to hook your visitors by making them sign up or subscribe to your website. If you put up too many well blended ads, the visitor can easily click away instead of subscribing to your newsletter, so either pick one goal or balance both.

Let’s talk about monetization first. This is easy if you’re using ad networks like Google Adsense. Go to your money page and insert an additional ad unit, blend it well with your content and make sure that its quite visible while not being too obtrusive.

A well placed Adsense unit can really increase your overall daily income. I’ve seen a jump of more than $20 a day for a site that I own when I took the time to test and optimize a few money pages. While you may have default ads already on every page of your site (sidebars, header etc), these may not be truly optimized for a money page.

Money pages need to be treated differently from the other pages on your website. They’re the ones that bring a lot of visitors (big sample size) so you can really use this opportunity to test the profitability of specific ad schemes. You can even remove the default ads specifically for this page so you have more room to experiment. That’s what I do for some sites.

Other ways to monetize include the use of commission-based affiliate programs which range from digital products to established eCommerce retailers like Amazon.com. Clickbank is a digital product marketplace you can use. Sign up, search through the marketplace for a product, grab your affiliate link, insert it on your money page.

You can also try CPA networks with relevant pay-per-lead or pay-per-sale programs. Commonly used CPA networks are Market Leverage, Max Bounty, NeverBlue, PepperJam, Copeac, Azoogle and Hydra Network, among many others. Affiliate programs can work well but remember to keep them related to your content.

Alternatively, you can promote your own products on your money page by including a short pitch for it and linking to a proper sales page. Or you can try to sell your visitors away from the money page by getting them to first subscribe to an email list. This brings us to the next step.

Step 4: Optimizing to Capture Leads

The goal is to capture not just the email of the visitor but his/her permission to allow you to reach them away from your website. For some of you, you want visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed so they’ll continue to read your content or hopefully participate on your site.

Many set up email lists and auto-responders with the aim of eventually monetizing by selling their own products or recommending those of JV partners. Their aim here is to get users to opt-in to receive newsletters or special offers. The same goes for online retail stores.

Good email marketing providers are Aweber and GetResponse, both of which charge a monthly fee that you should be able to earn back easily. There are free alternatives available but you’ll often lose out in terms of features. If this doesn’t bother you, you could try starting with any of the free email software or plugins available.

To optimize a money page to capture leads, you’ll need to do some offer customization. Look at what content/product is on the page and create a specific offer that’s relevant to it. Provide an incentive for someone to sign up: perhaps a free digital product with related or more in-depth information. Or simply the promise of future discounts or special product offers.

To get into the mind of the visitor and understand what entices them, you’ll need to go back to the search queries you’re getting. If someone is interested in ‘what causes wrinkles’, you’ll know they’ll be interested in an ebook on natural anti-aging remedies. Do up a free guide and offer it to them only if they register as a member or sign up to your email list.

How about lead capture for communities and membership sites? Apart from providing incentives you can use teasers. Restrict visitor actions by only allowing them to view a limited amount of content or interact in a limited fashion. This limit will be removed when a user registers with your community. These are methods commonly practiced by paid membership sites, forums and social media sites to entice signups.

Step 5: Sending Internal Traffic to Your Money Pages

Now that you’ve optimized your money pages for maximum conversions, you can also send over visitors from other pages of your site. You’ve already done the work to make the pages incredibly relevant and usable, they shouldn’t just be seen by search engine visitors.

If your money pages are related, by sure to interlink each one so that each visitor is funneled to another optimized page. This not only improves your bounce rate but makes sure that each visitor is given two opportunities to convert if they aren’t persuaded the first time around.

Another method is to use a script to autolink specific anchor keywords or phrases on your entire site to the specific web page. This helps with SEO and is very easy way to get more eyes on your money page. If you’re using Wordpress, try the Internal Link Building plugin or the SEO Smart Links plugin. Both help to auto-link keywords on every page of your blog. There are quite a few similar plugins out there but these two work well for me.

If you’re a blogger producing content daily, endeavor to link to the money pages whenever it’s pertinent to your post because you’re driving traffic to pages that will perform well. Alternate the links to each money page so your audience won’t get sick of seeing them all the time.

There is an alternative way to highlight your money pages: Group the ones about a similar topic together and list them all in a reference page, which will funnel traffic out to different locations. Instead of linking to each individual money page, you can just link or promote the reference page, which will then direct the visitors you get to each money page simultaneously.

A simple example of this is my reference page on social media marketing, which collects both money pages and less visited pages together under a specific theme. There’s also the option of creating special banner ads or images to link to either your money page or the reference page, it doesn’t always have to be promoted in the form of a link within content.

Step 6: Improving Your Search Engine Ranking

This is the final step in the process and should always come after you’ve optimized your money pages for maximum results and set up a method to promote it internally on your site. After you’ve done all that, it’s time to look at boosting a major factor for earning more money: your website’s ranking on the search engine results pages (SERPs).

This is an optional step because if you’re getting a lot of visitors, you’re should already be ranking quite well. But if you’re on the second page of Google or not yet in the top 3 queries for a keyword/phrase that is sending you a good amount of traffic, why not bump it up and get even more visitors per day?

You’ve already got your list of top money pages based on search queries. Now you should find what these pages are ranking for, which is something you can easily discover through your stats trackers. If you’re already using it, Google Webmaster Central is a free tool that shows you the top 20 search queries visitors use to reach your site.

Off-Site Search Engine Optimization

SEO is a pretty big topic: its hard to cover everything that needs to be done so I’m going to simplify it into one fool proof method of improving your search engine rank for Google. This is something that is unanimously agreed upon by everyone.

All you need to do is get links from other sites, especially with the specific anchor text you are trying to rank for. But not just from anywhere. You want links from quality, relevant websites.

Let’s see what Google itself says about ranking:

Sites’ positions in our search results are determined based on a number of factors designed to provide end-users with helpful, accurate search results. In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages.

One more. From Google’s warning on link schemes:

Your site’s ranking in Google search results is partly based on analysis of those sites that link to you. The quantity, quality, and relevance of links count towards your rating. The sites that link to you can provide context about the subject matter of your site, and can indicate its quality and popularity.

It is not only the number of links you have pointing to your site that matters, but also the quality and relevance of those links. Creating good content pays off: Links are usually editorial votes given by choice, and the buzzing blogger community can be an excellent place to generate interest.

Links matter a lot because Google’s algorithm is set up to use the collective intelligence of the web to determine a page’s importance. High quality links boost the trust, relevance and authority of your web page. This is somewhat the same for search engines like Yahoo or Live.

Ideally, the best type of links you can get are from the websites that are already ranking well for the keyword or phrase you are targeting. But these links might not be easy to acquire, since you’re likely to be viewed as a competitor and a threat.

So, what I personally like to do is to do some research on the people ranking for your keyword/phrase on the first two pages. Dig into their backinks by using something like Yahoo Site Explorer and find out who is linking to them. Try to get those same links if possible and even more quality links that your competitors don’t have.

There are many ways to build links, some are blackhat and others are more compliant with search engine guidelines. As I’ve mentioned in my previous post on long term social media marketing, I favor the strategy of creating valuable services, tools and content in order to attract links from bloggers. It’s stable and works extremely well for every niche out there.

If your money page is optimized for relevance and is high on informational value, it is already a potential link magnet. So here’s something you can do immediately. Send email pitches about your money page to relevant blogs. If you contact 1,000 blogs, you might easily get 50 to 100 extra links (or more), which may be enough for you to outrank other websites. Sometimes all you need to do is to get the word out.

And there are many other ways. Article directories. Blog/web directories. Social bookmarking websites. Social news sites. Social media communities (Flickr, Youtube etc). Contests. Link exchanges. Blog comments and carnivals. Donations/sponsorships. Forums. Press Releases.

How did you do? Let’s look at the answer to question #2 - “You never have to worry about money again.” What does this mean to you? It means freedom, security, and a worry free life. Most of us use worry as a motivator. Usually this does not work. Instead, you should act on your intuition and not worry. If you worry, you are limiting your own ability to act. Instead, you should focus on positively attracting the things you desire to you. Try this exercise.

1.) Take a piece of paper. Write an intention about your income.

2.) Use curiosity and hypnotic words to engage your own mind to attract money.

3.) Do you want more money and income every month? Everybody does.

4.) Write how much money you want to make each month. Stretch your possibilities a little bit. Your goal should excite you and scare you a little bit. Make it something that energizes you.

5.) What would be better than what you want to make per month? This is the ideal.

6.) What is your ideal?

7.) Write that you want to make a particular amount of money per month and something better. This is your new intention.

8.) Now, imagine receiving this new intention (the amount of money you want per month or better) and allow this to surface in your awareness. What does that feel like to you? What does that look like to you? How does your experience of receiving that goal amount of money feel to you? It may make you smile. Enjoy the thought. Imagine what you are doing with that money. How are you spending it? How are you investing it? Who are you paying with it?

Guess what. By completing this exercise you are well on your way to attracting the things you want. You have a positive mindset that will help you earn the income you want. Engage in this exercise often. You would be surprised at the awesome results you can enjoy.

12 Advices In Making Money Online

First off, never talk about numbers unless it is absolute necessary. The easier you are to assess, the easier you are to overtake. Keep your Ace in the Hole until you are fully ready to use it, and be stealth in your movements. If you are up to something good, you don’t want anyone to steal it from you. Know your competitors, don’t go about things doing things blindly. You have to know what you are up against. Follow them like a hawk, and see if you can outdo them.

1) Don’t be a charlatan, know what you are talking about. I originally got this invite 11 days ago, but waited until I had composed a quality post. Don’t be sleazy, and always be on top of your game.

2) Use free open source software and programs, it has great technical support and reduces your costs.

3) Have many diverse projects. This leads to diversity and multiple channels of income. I have about as many going on behind the scenes as I do fingers.

Build quality and content first. I hit the back button immediately when I come across a cheap looking website. Build something good, and people will come. Sometimes less is more. Keep you site looking clean. Don’t have narrow main content columns. People read best when content is presented in a longer horizontal orientation. In what I do, I don’t cut down on quality in order to accommodate visitors with exceedingly low end technology. I’m a technology guru and utilize a lot of media that is just not compatible with the really old stuff.

If you have many projects, have a centralized landing page to list them all. Since I am all over the place, that is the purpose of my main site. It has many things to offer.

4) Incorporate what you have around you; people, experience, resources, media, knowledge, etc.

5) Have a clearly accessible and defined about page. I hate coming to a site and having to spend more than 5 seconds trying to figure out its purpose. Use a theme and template that is inline with your site’s purpose.

My main site serves a variety of purposes: resume material, marketing, experience building, storefront, accessibility, information and publicity. The use of Maverick in the domain name was strategic.
As everyone says, be unique and interesting. Don’t be replaceable. Have intuitive domain names.

6) Give link love to those better than you. If someone else has said something better than you can, or is more of an authoritative source, link to them.

Its been stated everywhere, but find your niche. Members of your niche will be your most avid supporters.

7) Research every method of monetizing your material. Regular ads will not suffice, many people are running blocking programs. I’ve personally become immune to them and hardly notice them anymore. Don’t use cheap methods like pop ups and annoying banners. They give your readers a headache and put them in a bad mood. If an affiliate program does not accept you, fuck em. There are others. Sometimes you just have to apply twice. Don’t ask me why.

8 ) Keep your audience in mind at all times. Do not inflate your writing style, it will become transparent.
Check yourself from all angles, use different browsers, and monitors. I didn’t realize that the CSS of my main blog was so messed up until I upgraded to a Samsung SyncMaster 2443BWX 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor.

9) Keep an eye on the future (e.g. web 2.0).

10) Know all aspects of your site (at least a basic knowledge). Doing this leads to more control, customization options, and quicker turn around time. Obtain a mentor, and pay them tribute. Pay for what you truly need. For me, that is Adobe Master Collection CS4 Software Suite for Windows. This way I produce everything myself.

11) Participate in events. I am currently participating in Problogger’s 31 Days to Build a Better Blog.

12) Be well connected at all times. The HTC FUZE™ (AT&T) is my next purchase.

12 Attitudes A Successful Blogger should Have

In blogosphere, there are lots of successful bloggers in various field. Some of the established successful blogger are not only successful in their online businesses, but attitude as well. Some of them are successfull in their online businesses, but they’re failed to manage their attitude, eventually they’re failed too. Actually people who expert in internet marketing and make money online, can be considered as a successful blogger too, but they won’t be well known, they must be certified by the crowd too. Bloggers who able to manage business, internet marketing, attitude and make money online, eventually they’ll be known as a REAL successful blogger.

12 Attitudes A Successful Blogger Should Have

1) Be Kind - Treat every of your readers as your buddies, never scold your readers. If they being rude to you first, you should say :”Thanks!”. Treat your readers as your friends, sharing great tips and being friendly.

2) Be Honest - Never cheat your readers to buy some useless products because of you just want to make money out of it. You could recommend the quality products to your readers and ask whether they’re fine to buy it with your affiliate link.

3) Be Enthusiasm - Try to catch up with your readers and try to be enthusiasm while replying their comments or emailing them. Your readers will be feeling relax while reading your blog.

4) Be Active - Try to be active but not hyperactive, try to update your blog regularly and reply comments (says 3 articles in a week). Just to show your readers that your blog is not dead, still healthy and in good condition, no stroke or dilemma.

5) Be Caring - Try to help your readers’ questions and problems, never say “I don’t know” unless you really don’t know about the things.

6) Be Helpful - Whenever your readers ask for help, such as blog review, products review etc, try to help them out. If you want something reasonable and affordable in return, ask them for it.

7) Be Intelligent - You should be having the knownledge in your field and you know what are you sharing with your readers, never share something that you don’t know and you’re not able to answer your readers’ inquiries.

8 ) Be Available - Available doesn’t mean you’re single and available to have a girlfriend, I mean able to contact via email or any other methods. I’ve experienced some bloggers never replied when I contacted them via email. It’s not the right attitude, your readers will run away and never come back.

9) Be Sporty - Not only take, but gives as well! Organizing some contest and giveaway free gift or hard core cash!

10) Be Generous - Don’t just getting inbound links only, link out to some useful resources and share it with your readers.

11) Be Cool - Try to be cool and stand out from the crowd, readers love cool blogger. Readers love blogger who will give surprise to them.

12) Be Modest - Don’t be arrogant even though you’re expert or professional in your field, you just piss off your readers.

Everyone should learn to have these attitudes in order to become a successful blogger, not necessary to have them all but at least half of the above listed attitudes.

Search Traffic Or Social Traffic | Where’s The Gold?

What is your goal with an online business? Are you doing all this work so you will be famous or are you interested in making money online? This basic question is usually skipped over by most online entrepreneurs. Why? Because most of the “Gurus” who are selling information are worried about their profit not yours. They tell you to Stumble and Digg and comment on blogs and you will get rich if you buy their $97 ebook on how to get social traffic.

The fact is social traffic is terrible if you are trying to make money online. They hardly buy anything and, like all other businesses, you have to sell products or information in order to have a successful online business. This means you solve a problem or fill a want and the customer pays you. End of story; go get another customer. The only way money is made online is if a need is filled and money changes hands.

To make a sale you must have a customer with a problem to solve. Think about what you do when you have a problem. Do you Stumble around and Digg around for an answer? No. You search in Google or one of the other search engines for a website that will provide the solution. You don’t just surf around to see what everybody else is doing you find the product and if it is at a reasonable price you buy it. Why? Because you were in a buying mode to fulfill your need.

Social traffic on the other hand is usually comprised of people just looking around. They may be slightly interested in a product or service but they really aren’t trying to solve the problem right now. The social person might start looking for a solution but they are quickly side tracked to finding out about Lindsay’s latest antics or who got voted off of Idol. In the mean time they don’t buy a thing. You can get a lot of social traffic and have a lot of people visit your blog but if they are not in a buying mood you won’t make any money.

If you want to attract buyers to your blog or website concentrate on search engine traffic. If you just want a bunch of visitors and a huge RSS list go after the social traffic. There is nothing wrong with social traffic you just won’t make any money when they come over for a visit.

Before I start my writing, I have a short question throwing to you all. What is the highest cost per click (CPC) rate for your Adsense ads? My highest CPC rate was $3.05 which was in my construction blog, there was other clicks which generated $2+ and $1+ too. I didn’t really check on the search engine ranking for certain keywords for my construction blog, perhaps it ranks high and advertisers bid higher rate to advertise in my blog, so my blogs could make money online with Adsense.

Besides these, sometimes you may see some of your Adsense clicks generate a few little cents only, it’s wasting your time, isn’t? It’s because there are tonnes of MFA (Made For Adsense) sites bid lower rate and their ads might appeared in your blog, you’ll only get few cents even though you have lots of clicks, totally not worth it for them to bid and advertise on your blog through Adsense ads, this is why you can’t make more money with Adsense. So you know I had a lot clicks which brought me few dollars per click, it was because I’ve blocked those MFA sites to bid the Adsense unit in my blogs.

As you know, or perhaps you didn’t know that our Adsense account actually has the features to block those MFA sites from bidding the Adsense units in our blogs. Before these, you should learn how to generate those MFA sites and insert them into our Adsense Blocked Sites or Competitive Ad Filter. In order to make money money online with Adsense, you should learn these simple guides.

How To Generate Blacklisted MFA Sites and Block Them In Adsense Account

AdsBlackList is a site where you can generate blacklisted sites that have been blacklisted by Google, they’ll only waste your time and waste the chances for other potential advertisers to bid on the Adsense unit in your blogs. I suspect that I could get that high CPC rates is because of I’ve blocked those MFA sites from bidding my Adsense units, I can’t guarantee it but I hope it works. I’ll be teaching you step-on-step on how to generate filter list of blocked sites and insert them into Competitive Ad Filter.

1) Register in AdsBlackList, it’s free!

2) Go to “My Account” at the left sidebar, click “Add New Domain” and add your blog. I think it doesn’t matter if you just add 1 blog even though you have 10 blogs. If I’m not mistaken, you might need to wait them to approve your application.

3) After they’ve approved you, now go to “Generate Filter List” at the left sidebar and you see this.

4) You may see your domain at the Available Domains, drag it and drop it on “Keywords from selected domains”. Checkbox the “MFA” and click “Submit”. You will see a list of 200 MFA blacklisted site, if you would like to see all 691 results, you’re required to become Premier Member which you have to pay for it.

5) Open your Adsense account, go “Adsense Setup” and choose “Competitive Ad Filter”. Scroll down and you’ll see this “AdSense for Content filters”. Copy the 200 MFA blacklisted sites and paste them into the box and click “Save Changes”.

6) Done!

I’ll not guarantee that you won’t get a few cents for a click, because we have just insert 200 MFA blacklisted sites and you know there are tonnes of these MFA sites out there, but at least you reduce the percentage of getting Adsense ads from useless MFA sites. After following these steps, you might need to sit down and analyse your result, you should be able to make more money with Adsense now.

For those who’re lazy to follow the steps and get the 200 blacklisted MFA sites, here is the list that I generated using my domain, you can copy it and paste it into your Adsense account.

Google and Music Labels Bet on Downloads in China

Can global music companies make money by giving away songs in China, where piracy is rampant?

Kai-Fu Lee, president of Google Greater China, said last week that he hoped an alliance with music labels would limit piracy.

They certainly hope so. Last Monday, the world’s biggest record labels, including EMI, the Warner Music Group and Vivendi’s Universal Music, said they would seek to profit here by working with Google and offering free downloads of music to anyone inside China.

Google, which has no plans to offer the service elsewhere, hopes to build traffic and win new advertisers by allowing the Chinese to search for free music on its site.

Record labels say that instead of earning money from each download, they will share advertising revenue with Google’s partner in the deal, a Chinese company called Top100.cn.

The partnership, analysts say, could help determine the future of how valuable content is distributed in China, which has already overtaken the United States as the world’s biggest Internet market.

Until now, China has been a hotbed of online piracy and free downloads of music, film and even television shows.

According to the International Federation of Phonographic Industries, which represents the global record makers, 99 percent of the music downloaded in China violates copyrights.

Lawsuits by major music labels and promises by the Chinese government to crack down on Internet piracy have failed to deter the practices.

But now, the music industry says that, at least in China, it can live with giving away music.

“The level of online advertising in China is quite mature, so we’re willing to try this out,” said Sandy Monteiro, a senior vice president at the Universal Music Group.

The deal creates a powerful tandem — the world’s biggest online search and advertising engine, paired with powerhouses from the music industry —aiming to take on China’s leading search engine, Baidu, whose Web traffic has grown partly because of its links to free, unlicensed music.

Global record labels have sued Baidu, trying to force the company to stop linking to unlicensed sites. But Baidu, which declined to be interviewed for this article, has said it is simply a search engine and does not engage in piracy.

With its popular searches, Baidu has managed to keep far ahead of Google in China, with a search market share approaching 65 percent.

But analysts say Google could be significantly aided by the new music partnership.

“It’s a smart move for Google,” said Ma Xiushan, deputy director general of the China Intellectual Property Society in Beijing. “Google has realized the point: they have to open the access for downloading so that they can compete with Chinese competitors and attract more users.”

Google executives say they acted because a music search function was one of the few elements they did not have in China.

According to government figures, about 84 percent of China’s nearly 300 million Internet users download music over the Web, and most of it is used for cellphone ring tones.

Google hopes that by offering free, high-quality music — giving consumers fewer worries about viruses or damaged tracks — it can cut into Baidu’s lead.

For the music industry, which believes it has lost hundreds of millions of dollars to online piracy, the deal promises to deliver a steady stream of revenue and could also put pressure on Baidu and other Chinese Internet companies to distribute legitimate tracks or risk being locked out of future deals.

Not everyone believes it will work.

“Google’s move is just burning money to compete with Baidu’s dominance,” said Guo Chunlong, founder of yobo.com, a music and entertainment Web site. “Sharing ad revenues with music companies — this business model is not sustainable. How many page views could generate the money both Google and the music companies expect?”

Music executives dispute that. But they say the China deal is not a model for the rest of the world. They say different regions call for different approaches — some that charge for downloads, some that stream music for a single subscription price and some that are supported by advertising.

In China, they decided an advertising-supported model was best.

“China was a curious place,” said Mr. Monteiro at Universal Music. “It was the one market we couldn’t crack. And then Google approached us about this model.”

Erik Zhang, one of the founders of Top100.cn, said advertising-supported free downloads were just the first of several stages in the proposed deal.

The partners say they could broaden offerings to include paid V.I.P. memberships, free concert tickets or backstage passes and other benefits.

But one thing is clear: Google and its partners want to limit this experiment to China.

For instance, the site — which will eventually offer about 1.1 million tracks — is in Chinese, and only Internet addresses based in China can download free music. Could China’s clever pirates download this music free and then swap it or sell it in other parts of the world, possibly undermining the system?

Last week, for example, a user downloaded a music track in China and easily shipped it to a friend in London.

Music producers said customers might try this, but they are trying to put up legal and technical hurdles to such ploys.

“We’ll definitely need to watch it,” Mr. Monteiro, of Universal Music, said.

A new virus that infiltrates Google's online advertising business and hijacks the ads with a different provide has been detected, Romanian antivirus company BitDefender says.

The trojan – dubbed Trojan.Qhost.WU – modifies the infected computers' hosts file and redirect the Google's AdSense link "page2.googlesyndication.com" to a different address.

"This is a serious situation that damages users and webmasters alike," said Attila-Mihaly Balazs, a BitDefender virus analyst.

“Users are affected because the advertisements and/or the linked sites may contain malicious code, which1 is a very likely situation, given that they are promoted using malware in the first place," he said. "Webmasters are affected because the trojan takes away viewers and thus a possible money source from their websites.”

Google reacted swiftly, cancelling the AdSense accounts that it linked to the malicious threat.

"We have cancelled customer accounts that display ads redirecting users to malicious sites or that advertise a product violating our software principles," a Google spokesperson told Reuters.

While BitDefender labels the virus as spreading at a "low" level and Google containing the threat, online users who wish to ensure they're Trojan.Qhost.WU-free should visit here to clean your system.

All this for a virus that's only 2048 bytes, or two-thousandth's of a megabyte.

JenSense reports that we got ourselves Malicious software that targets Google AdSense ads. She explains;

"A new trojan horse discovered by an Indian publisher replaces Google AdSense ads with their own ads, advertising sites including dating, sex, viagra and weight loss. This trojan is very recent, because it not only converts regular AdSense ad units, but also the Google AdSense and Firefox referrer buttons into text links."

JenSense continues by saying that there was no reports of this affecting YPN ads. In addition, Techshout has pictures showing the very similar visual appears of these ads when compared to Google AdSense ads.

New HTC Touch Cruise~

HTC came up with a new version of the Touch Cruise lately. Basically the Touch Cruise is meant for people who are always “cruising” travelling around with the help of the built in GPS.

Nothing much had changed except they added a new feature called the HTC Footprint. Basically it’s a feature like geotagging, best for travelling around where you can take a picture and the HTC Footprints automatically saves your location. You may add in the thoughts that surrounded that special moment and even grab the sound of your friend’s laughter to go along with your memory. Yet, you may revisit to that location again next time by using GPS as the location is saved.

Other than that, HTC had added some goodies on the specification side. The processor is upgraded to 528MHz with 512MB of ROM and 256MB of RAM. There’s a 3.2 megapixels camera built in and also 7.2 Mbps HSDPA connectivity.You may refer to the official HTC website for more information on the new Touch Cruise.

Seems like PDA phones nowadays have almost the same specs these days. I wonder what else more that we can built into a PDA in the future? Something like this I suppose?

how is Stumble Upon different, and how do we use it?

StumbleUpon is a social bookmarking site. It’s a place where people go to exchange websites that they find interesting, write reviews about it and share it with other users. However, most social bookmarking sites eventually bring you to their site where you can save / share your bookmarks.

StumbleUpon, on the other hand, works with a toolbar that you need to install on your browser, for Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Once you start the toolbar, you can use it for several stuff. First of all, you can rate the websites that you visit by clicking “I like it!” or “I don’t like it.” So you can give it a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down to the websites that you visit. That’s basically how the rating process takes place.

Now there’s another button called “Stumble”.

When you click on “Stumble!” you are going to see websites that other users with a similar profile to yours have rated as good. In other words, many other StumbleUpon users gave a “thumbs-up” to this site, so when you click “Stumble!” you’re shown the highest rated websites. What type of website / niche you’re shown depends on your user preferences, which you specify when you sign up buy you can also change it later.

Websites that get thumbs-down, then they won’t be shown to other users. You also have the option to use channels to stumble upon. So for example, if you select the web development channel, every time you click on “Stumble!,” you’re going to be presented with a website that was rated inside the web development category.

So you can pretty much filter down what kind of stuff you are looking for - that’s the advantage of StumbleUpon. You can get the best websites in a certain topic delivered to you just by clicking on “Stumble”..

The good thing about StumbleUpon is that the algorithm is really effective. I mean, if you just give a couple of stumbles and you see that the quality of the websites that you see will really be high.

12 Keys to Successful Forum Marketing How to market your business using online forums

Forum marketing is a great way to make your online business stand out from the crowd. Forum users are generally net savvy and open to making online purchases. Many forum users are also respected experts and bloggers in the specific topics covered by the forum.

Forum marketing is a high ROI strategy because making a good impression in front of this savvy and influential audience can help your marketing message spread far and wide.

Follow this step-by-step guide to effectively use forum marketing as a part of your overall online marketing strategy.

1. Find the right forums

Not all forums are worth your time. Successful forum marketing means finding the right community for your business.

Look for popular forums that cover your niche topic. Start by asking your employees, suppliers, and customers which online communities they hang out in. Also try searching forum hub sites such as Board Reader, Big Boards, and Board Tracker using niche-specific keywords.

Narrow your list to 5-10 forums that will be worth your time using the following criteria:

6. Introduce yourself

Many forums encourage new users to introduce themselves to the community by making an introductory post. This is usually done in threads especially designated for welcoming new members. These threads are usually called some variation of "Say Hi Here," "How Did You Find Us," or " New Members Check In Here."

Your introductory post should include a brief description of your expertise and an explanation of why you joined the forum. Let the other users know that your main goal is to contribute to and learn from the community. Do not make any marketing pitches in your first post. If you try to sell anything in your first post you will very likely get banned.

7. Spend some time lurking

Spend some time reading the forum to get a sense of the community's special quirks and cultural norms. Figure out who the influential users are and note which topics are perennial favorites. Some forums also allow users to use signatures to promote their own websites. If you are in a forum that allows self-promotional signatures, make sure you take full advantage of this opportunity.

Do not abuse this opportunity by putting flashy images or long advertising messages in your signature. An accurate, short description of your business and a link to your website is the best way to go.

10. Stay away from drama

Do not get drawn into heated arguments. It would be a shame to get banned just because you started arguing whether Han shot first with some 14-year-old kid from Scranton. Here's how you can avoid the drama:

Constantly remind yourself that your mission here is to build good will for your business.
Stay away from charged topics like politics or religion.
Resist the urge to respond to criticism. If you have to answer, at least give yourself a couple of hours to cool off before responding.
Use emoticons to indicate when you are being facetious.
End discussions the moment you sense that it is getting contentious. Just say you agree to disagree and that you want to move on to other more pleasant topics.

11. Create win-win marketing campaigns

Once you have the respect of the users you can start more aggressive marketing campaigns. Focus on marketing techniques that provide a benefit for the forum community. For example, offer the forum members special discounts, free samples, or fun contests. Be sure to get the permission of the forum's moderators before you start these campaigns.

12. Be careful how you outsource forum marketing

Many marketing firms use bots or low-skilled foreign workers to spam forums. This is not the type of marketing you want. Forum spam may bring in a little temporary traffic to your website, but in the long run these campaigns can seriously damage your reputation. When you hire a marketing firm, make sure they understand that you will only accept ethical marketing practices that will enhance your image.

If you use Blogger in order to manage your blog then you have available to you hundreds of gadgets that Google has released; all of which can add features to your blog. A gadget is a widget that adds small programs to a blog, adding features that show off lists of quotes, mini-games, and other functionality that will enhance your site. Here are a few of the new gadgets:

- HTML/JavaScript.

This will enable you to enhance Blogger by adding your own code. This makes Blogger vastly more usable, with features that you control. You can create a mailing bot, add links and images from other pages that you own, integrate with eBay and PayPal, and other features.

- Feeds.

This gadget allows you to add a feed from other blogs, directories, or other forms of news services. This enables your readers to see into what is in your reading list, and direct readers to other sites and content. If you have an account at an article repository, then you can add a feed to new articles as they are written. You can also reinforce a relationship with another blog not only trading RSS feeds, but also guest posts and more, effectively combining your readerships.

The added benefit is that if your templates are publicly listed, then visitors finding the templates will be directed to your blog in order to learn how to use the docs.

- AdSense.

If you are in it to make money, then adding AdSense to your blog is a great way to start. Google’s technology works well with Google’s technology, and adding AdSense to your blog will be seamless. You will need to have an account with AdSense first, and it is good to run the blog for a while to generate traffic before adding the gadget. Then you can just add the code and it will integrate seamlessly. Then you will start to generate revenue from your writing.

Adding a gadget is simple, just go to your dashboard and add it. Gadgets provide a functionality that will enhance your blog and your reader’s experience.

Learning the basics

First you need to grasp and understand that the Internet is a big place. Several billion web-pages, and often with very little time available to the end-user, they’ll use several techniques to find what they’re looking for.

SEO

Search? Standard engines like Google, Yahoo and Live are the most popular nowadays, and optimizing your site to be found easily, can be easy and hard based on many factors.

My best advice for someone starting out would be to start by building quality content for somebody to see, then progressing to “The Three Cs”. This way, you’ll get noticed by genuinely interested people, who’ll actively want to play a part in your site’s development, by giving you quality feedback on ways to improve, design and usability.

If you have a blog or a website that’s been going for several weeks, perhaps a month or two, and you’ve done “The Three Cs”, or at least some of them, would be to start focusing on building on your existing content, with fresh, interesting, relevant and unique content. Note I say ‘relevant’ and ‘unique’.

This is important. There are so many splogs out there now-a-days, that people can quickly distinguish whether an article has been written by somebody or not, at least the majority of the time. Relevance too, like I said, is a key factor. If you have a very personal blog, then one day write something completely off-topic about a new type of golf club that comes out, people will start to wonder if you and your blog actually have an aim or a purpose, which is yet another vital thing to consider.

If you’re somebody with a very mature blog, that is several months or more old, you can now focus on the technical side of things, which is mainly down to the spiders. If you’ve been blogging this long, then if you’re not on your own domain, or hosting, I recommend it, as it allows for greater flexibility, design and SEO.

Search engine optimization? Yep! A Google Sitemap can be stuck on your server for the Google-Bot and metatags can be added, which let you pre-define information about your page automatically, such as the author, a description, keywords and feed information. This also makes usability easier for feed-ready browsers like Firefox and Internet Explorer 7.

Tacky pre-set designs become a thing of the past too, and upgrading to Wordpress can be a smart move, as the developer community there will help you along the way with every aspect of your blog, from the writing itself, to the advanced functionality like widgets that are available, and the themes that are freely downloadable to customize your blog’s look. Of course you could always give design a go yourself as I did at Techzi.net - though admittedly I enlisted the help of two professional designers as well.

The three founding principals of marketing your blog to an audience, whether general, or specific. People want to get be a part of the next thing, so give them a chance.

1. Community

Whether you start up your own community, or join others, via means of MyBlogLog, MySpace, LinkedIn, Xing and others, this is a guaranteed and proven way to get visitors, to get hits, impressions, and often quality traffic, because you know that these people haven’t just clicked on a random link or search engine listing, but have seen you or your website’s profile, and followed it through to your homepage/landing page. 2. Communication

I don’t mean ’spam’ by this either. Get involved in genuine discussions, with other people of similar interests, start up a civilized, profitable, knowledgeable discussion, then when you’re finished, ask if they’d take a look at your blog or website. You’d be surprised how many loyal readers have come to my own blog in this way. Simply leave comments in communities, on social networks, on other blogs, etc.

All the time, you have to consider the reader. Who are you writing for? The reader. Who will be navigating your blog? The reader. Who should you devote your time, energy and attention to? The reader. Consideration is important, and you can show this in many ways. Either by having a clutter-free, easy-to-follow design, or you could alternatively try getting the readers involved, by asking questions in blog posts, or website statements, and opening up comments. If people comment, strike up a conversation with them, and keep them coming back.

Answer their queries and requests with solid, reliable, dependable answers, and take note of the feedback they leave by using it, and putting it into action. If someone states that your text is hard to read, change the colour to stop it clashing so much with the background, or simply make it slightly larger.

There are lots of ways you can show consideration to your audience, and it shows just how loyal you are to your readers through this. If someone spots an inaccuracy in a blog post and tells you, don’t be lazy. Go change it! They’ll keep coming back, they’ll tell their friends, and in turn this C will do word-of-mouth marketing wonders.

5 killer technique to get traffic for free!!!

With blogging, the most obvious things that we should all do are usually the ones we forget to. If you are looking to increase the popularity of your blog in 2008, here are some simple things you need to start doing:

Email Subscriptions – if you are using Feedburner, you are probably already using the email subscription service. What you may have not noticed is that when you use the Feedburner email subscription service, when someone gives their email to Feedburner to subscribe to your blog it doesn’t mean that they are a subscriber. They usually get a follow-up email from Feedburner verifying that they subscribed, but many people end up missing this email and never fully subscribe. So if you log into your Feedburner account and go under email subscriptions you will notice that some email address are not active. For those non-active email addresses, take them and re-subscribe them to your blog. This way they get another verification notice to subscribe to your blog and many of them will end up subscribing.

SEO – a lot of people claim that they are SEO experts or that their blog is already optimized for search engines. Yes, WordPress is not that bad out of the box, but there are still a lot of modifications you need to make to your WordPress blog if you want more search love. Participate on other blogs – if you are trying to make your blog popular, you are probably concentrating fully on your blog instead of other competing blogs. A great way to increase the popularity of your blog is to find all your competitor blogs and start participating on them. By placing valuable comments on them others will find you and most likely subscribe to your RSS feed because they are targeted visitors.

Share some love – don’t expect to be popular if you are not willing to link out. If you want others to link to you or start reading your blog then start linking to them. When you link to others they may end up linking back to you or they may end up finding your blog interesting and start reading it.

What’s your edge – if you want people to read your blog you need something that differentiates yourself from the competition. This could be your attitude, your content, or anything else like that. But if you don’t have something that differentiates yourself from the competition then it is going to be hard to grow your readership.

Although these tips are basic, hopefully they will come in value to you during 2008. Just think about them every once in a while and you will start seeing growth in your blog traffic.
