I haven't posted on this blog for nearly 4 years! Mitt is in a much stronger position today.

I just read a peice by John Schroeder, an evangelical Presbyterian. John is a founding member of the Article VI blog.

The years since Article VI Blog started have been very interesting years in my life. Among the more interesting occurrences has been the opportunity to get to know Mitt Romney just a little and some of his extended family quite well. These are people, who when judged by the content of their character, deserve the same shot at the White House, or any other part of the American dream, that the rest of us enjoy.

I do not pretend to know what God thinks of Mormons or Mormon theology – I do not know what will happen to any individual Mormon in eternity, or anyone else for that matter – I am no where near that smart. I know what I believe and what my prayer and study has taught me, and yes, it is quite different than what they believe. But I also know that to deny them their place in our nation, based on that difference, reflects far more poorly on me than it does on them.

All said and done, that is why I started with Article VI Blog. I did not want the prejudices of some in the Evangelical community to reflect poorly on all of us. I wanted anybody that bothered to listen to know that we’re not all that way.

Some six years later the only thing that is different is that Mitt Romney is now unquestionably the best candidate qualified to steer our nation back in the proper direction. Economically, his skill is unrivalled. As an executive, his experience is unmatched. As a politician, his current victories speak for themselves – as does his character. This cycle Mitt Romney has more than earned my vote. I am proud to be behind him – 100%.

Brooklyn GOP Chairman Eaton Endorses Romney

Brooklyn's Republican Chairman Craig Eaton has thrown his support behind presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

"I believe Mitt Romney has the vision and leadership America needs in the next four years," said Chairman Eaton.

"Our families cannot survive the continued economic beating they've received at the hands of the Obama Administration," said Eaton.

Eaton added "It's time for a President with hands-on experience in the business world and Mitt Romney's business skills would provide our economy with a steady hand a clear idea of what's needed to turn things around."

Eaton, as the first New York City Chairman to endorse Romney, stated that he will work to elect a slate of candidates in New York's April 2012 Presidential Primary, running as Romney Delegates to the GOP Convention.

The race for president isn’t a national contest. It’s a state-by-state battle to cobble an electoral vote majority. So while the national polls are useful in gauging the president’s popularity, the more instructive numbers are those from the battlegrounds.

Those polls are even more ominous for the president: In every reputable battleground state poll conducted over the past month, Obama’s support is weak. In most of them, he trails Republican front-runner Mitt Romney. For all the talk of a closely fought 2012 election, if Obama can’t turn around his fortunes in states such as Michigan and New Hampshire, next year’s presidential election could end up being a GOP landslide.

"Strong for America's Future" - Polls show Mitt Romney sends Obama home in 2012

Mitt Romney leads the presidential race at the moment ,at least 2 recent polls show him the strongest Republican candidate Defeating President Obama in 2012.

"A new poll shows President Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in a statistical dead heat for the White House.

The Republican edges Obama by one percentage point, 45-44 percent, in a Quinnipiac University poll of registered voters released Monday. Among other top GOP contenders, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trails Obama 46-44 percent and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is behind by eight points, 48 percent - 40 percent.

The poll suggests a clear frontrunner has yet to emerge from the GOP field. Palin, Romney and Huckabee, the three leading challengers in the poll, only receive 19 percent, 18 percent and 17 percent support, respectively, from Republican voters.

In a good omen for Republicans, voters prefer to elect a new president over keeping Obama 49-43 percent. Independents backed Romney over Obama 46-35 percent..."

"President Barack Obama's job approval rating has dropped to the lowest point of his Presidency at 39%, and in potential match-ups with Republicans in 2012, he trails Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich...

Among independents, match-ups between Obama and Republicans Romney, Gingrich, Palin and Bush are very close. Versus all of these hypothetical opponents Obama draws between 36% and 39% of independents. He beats Bloomberg among independents, 26%-12%, but 49% of independents would choose neither.

Obama wins between 75% and 78% of Democrats versus all opponents except Bloomberg, against whom Obama gets 65%. The percentage of Democrats who would choose neither Obama nor his opponent ranges from 7% versus Romney and 18% versus Bloomberg.

Among Republicans, Gingrich leads with 79%, followed by Romney 77% and Palin 72%."

Ex-MA Gov. Mitt Romney (R) held a fundraiser in Manhattan last week and outperformed Pres. Obama's own cash grab a day later on behalf of the DCCC, another sign of trouble brewing for Dems this cycle in all corners of the country.

Romney headlined an event at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City on May 12 that raised $1.5M for his Free and Strong America PAC.

By contrast, Obama's appearance at the St. Regis Hotel on May 13 raked in a lesser $1.3 million for the DCCC.

Midnight Deadline to Donate

PPP: Electability put Romney in the lead for the Nomination

(PPP).Our first national look at who Republicans would prefer as their 2012 Presidential nominee confirms the wide open nature of the field. The leading candidates are all within the margin of error of each other, with Mitt Romney leading at 28% followed by Mike Huckabee at 24% and Sarah Palin at 23%. Ron Paul pulls 11%, 9% say they're undecided, and 6% say their preference would be someone else.

Romney's lead speaks to the fact that moderates could actually pick the GOP nominee in 2012. That's because there's gridlock among conservatives about who their preferred candidate is. Huckabee leads with 28% to 27% for Palin and 25% for Romney. But the former Massachusetts Governor has a large advantage with moderates, getting 35% to 17% for Palin and 16% for Huckabee. That significant edge with them gives him the overall lead.

48% of Republican primary voters say the most important thing is getting a nominee who can beat Barack Obama, and with those people Palin lags well behind at 15% to 32% for Romney and 27% for Huckabee. 42% say the most important thing is getting a candidate who's conservative on every issue and Palin does lead with those folks at 36% to 24% each for Huckabee and Romney.

The No Apology Tour, First Stop, Huntington, NY, March 3, 2010

On March 3rd, I traveled to Huntington, NY for the first stop on former Governor Mitt Romney's No Apology book tour. Having volunteered to help run the event, I obtained a high level of access to what took place, and I offer some thoughts, and photos.

The book signing was in the evening, but for me, it memorably began at around 4pm, when, still at work, an area code (617) call flashed on my phone. From college, I knew that this was a Boston call--but I didn’t expect to answer to hear someone named “Will” explain that he was in Gov. Romney's car in route to the signing, wanting to know if I could find the Romneys some dinner. After a few seconds of "?!?." I responded that while very honored, I was still 40 miles away from Huntington, and would not really be able to help out in that way.

I volunteered with the Free and Strong America PAC to help run the book signing the day before. With no previous contact with FSAPAC or Gov. Romney (unless a yard sign, still in my brownstone window, counts), I had no idea what to expect.

Unless you live in a very blue neighborhood in a very blue state, you might not understand why going to see a prominent GOP leader near home might feel somewhat…STRANGE? It also begged a number of questions, such as why start the book tour in a NYC suburb; and would anyone else show up? I also wondered what Gov. Romney would be like in person.

Answers to these question started arriving even before I reached Book Revue when the driver of the taxi who would take me from the train station to the event and even the other passenger in the taxi knew who of the signing, seemed to be curious about Gov. Romney--the IHGTR, is he going to run, question.

By 7 pm, about 500 people were at the Book Revue store. Shortly thereafter, Gov. Romney came out from the back of the store to loud applause, introduced Ann Romney, and spoke for about ten minutes, and offered a short overview of No Apology, and why it was written.

I would estimate that 400 of the 500 people at the event waited to get books signed, and that with multiple purchases, Gov. Romney actually signed close to 1000 books.

I helped out with the signing by handing out FSAPAC info cards to people waiting in line to get their books signed. I also made a run to the Romney's SUV to get additional materials out of the trunk.

The actual signing took place on Book Revue's mezzanine where Gov. Romney sat at a table, and Ann Romney, and several FSAPAC people milled around, and spoke to members of the public, and the media people stopping by.

Early on during the signing, I introduced myself to Ann Romney, told her how honored I was to meet her (and explained that I was the guy on the phone who couldn't find her dinner).

While handing out FSAPAC cards, people chatted with me, and, of course asked the IHGTR question--to which I firmly responded "I know no more than you about that".

The book signing crowd struck me as a fairly normal, politically-unconnected group of Long Islanders; they seemed concerned about developments in Washington and the economy; a mix of young and old; a number of children were tagged along; someone even had their dog.

Oh yes, there were also some Paulbots (Rep. Ron Paul partisans) in the crowd with signs during Gov. Romneys' remarks, and outside with a bullhorn. At some point I couldn't resist telling one or two of them what they were doing made them look stupid, and was in really poor taste.

Towards the end of the event , I heard Gov. Romney speak to a local reporter about his view of the recent Supreme Court decision that pruning back the McCain-Feingold campaign finance law limitations; several media people also asked Gov. Romney the IHGTR question.

Eventually, I decided it was time to walk up to Gov. Romney and introduce myself, and shake his hand. I told him what an honor it was to finally meet, and then something to the effect of, “should something happen after this November’s Midterms, you have a friend, in Brooklyn, and I would love to lend a hand.”

I suppose the most surprising thing about meeting Gov. Romney was that there wasn't actually much of a surprise. In person, he, as well as Mrs. Romney, are very approachable people who seemed to genuinely enjoy exchanging banter with the public.

This wasn't a town hall meeting, but starved for anything in New York resembling one, I was struck by being at an event in which a prominent person and possible future national leader interacted casually with ordinary citizens in an old, pre-B&N/Borders-style bookstore. Again, this may not be a novelty to many reading this, but if it’s not, you probably don’t live down the street from Sen. Charles Schumer where the streets are painted BLUE.

Romney leads big in Florida - The Momentum push for super Tuesday

PPP Poll:
Mitt Romney is the early favorite for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination among the party's voters in Colorado and Florida. Romney also led recent polls in New Mexico and Texas, and was second behind Mike Huckabee in both Georgia and North Carolina. Sarah Palin has not had the lead in any of the six states we've polled over the last month.

Florida's the first really important stop on the GOP calendar that we've looked at, and Romney's lead there is overwhelming. He gets 52% to 21% for Huckabee and 18% for Palin. It's closer, but still a double digit advantage, in Colorado. There Romney gets 44% to 25% for Palin and 17% for Huckabee.

In each state Romney has a big advantage with both moderates and conservatives, although he is particularly strong at this point with the center of his party. In Florida he leads Huckabee by 28 with conservatives and has a 36 point advantage over both Huckabee and Palin with moderates. In Colorado he's up 8 on Palin with conservatives, but leads her by 41 with moderates.

One particular source of strength for Romney at this very early stage is that he's doing even better with senior citizens than the overall electorate. In Florida he's up 47 with voters over 65 and in Colorado it's a 21 point margin.

No Apology: Debuts in NYT Bestsellers at #1!!!

Ben Smith at Politico just tipped us off that one of his sources in the New York Times says that "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness" will debut on the March 21st New York Times Bestseller list in the top slot!

Number 1!!!

We've enjoyed tracking the book as it worked its way up on Amazon's bestseller list, but certainly the NYT ranking is a lot more influential.

For all of the NYT's liberal editorial slant, this is a major achievement for Mitt and hopefully extends his influence as NYT readers pick up a copy and realize Mitt's got all the ideas and capability we need to get our country back on the right track.
