Last week, the sun hurled all kinds of charged particles our way and local photographers got out and captured the show.

Here are just a few of the fabulous images we found that were posted and/or sent to us this week. We thought it might be fun to see these all together, just to give you a taste of what was on display that night, June 7. And thanks to all the photographers who went out that night and then shared their images with us.

Now that we have the summer lights out of the way, on to the arts and entertainment news.

“Agate Hunter”  wood carving by Linda Blaine Otis.

The Johnson Heritage Post is opening a new exhibit on Friday night. Entitled “Cook County: A Creative Community” it features the work of a number of local artists and artisans including Nace Hagemann, Steve Ortmann, Don Davison, photography; Linda Blaine Otis, woodcarving, Dean Einwalter, furniture, Jayne Richards, drawing & dream catchers and Edna Bowen, rosemaling.

The opening reception is from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, June 14. All invited. The exhibit continues through June 14.

Also on Friday night, Beth Gage, one of the directors of the film “Bidder 70″ will be interviewed on WTIP’s The Roadhouse as will the Cloquet man who discovered a shipwreck from 100 years ago. The Roadhouse airs from 5-7 p.m.

The Grand Marais Classic Car Show is on Saturday. More than 70 classic and vintage cars, trucks and bikes will be on view on Wisconsin Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Paul Pedersen and the band, Mysterious Ways, will play in Harbor Park during the event. The public is invited to come see the cars and vote on their favorite.

An awards ceremony will be held at the American Legion at 2 p.m. followed by a “lap” around town by the participating vehicles.

The Cook County Farm & Craft Market will be held in the Senior Center parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. The market features a variety of arts & craft booths as well as a variety of home-baked goods and bedding plants and perennials. Fika Coffee also sets up a tent in the morning for your morning brew.

Also, the workshops for the Summer Solstice Pageant continue at Betsy Bowen’s Studio. They are held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday night and on Saturday  from 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4 p.m. All ages invited.

Drury Lane Books will hold a Writer’s Salon at 5 p.m. on Saturday with Mary Sharratt. She will read from her latest book: “Illuminations: A Novel of Hildegard von Bingen.”

And on Saturday night, the Schroeder Area Historical Society will hold its annual meeting and a community dinner at the Schroeder Town Hall. The annual meeting starts at 5 p.m. followed by a ham dinner. The suggested donation for the meal is $5, $20 per family.

And then on Monday, Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center is hosting the Gunflint Trail Historical Society’s Annual Fish Fry.  The culinary crew from Gunflint Lodge will prepare a shore lunch for everyone. It starts at noon. A $10 minimum donation is requested.
