Noozeez – In the past, before the internet became the main force driving political candidates to victory, straw polls at the various summits and conventions had meaning. They represented the voice of the most passionate people within a party in a local area that often extended to multiple states for the larger groups. These were the people who were going to get the word out to the masses, so winning a straw poll meant that a candidate would have more phones called, more doors knocked, and more yards filled with signs.

That changed. It started with the rise of television during the Kennedy era but didn’t really hit a tipping point until the 2004 and 2006 elections brought the importance of the internet to bear. Ever since, the Internet has played as much of a role in winning or losing political campaigns as television. The grassroots efforts of passionate voters was pushed aside a bit.

Things are changing again. It’s now a matter of two extremes. For the Republicans, the wide field has allowed for a re-entry of grassroots efforts to make a difference, particularly for the candidates that are hovering in the top-middle of the pack. Those who simply need a push like Ben Carson and Ted Cruz will have a good chance of getting it through grassroots efforts because the airwaves and internet are so dominated by Donald Trump.

On the other side, the Democrats are seeing the re-emergence of grassroots efforts due to the fact that their top candidate is unable to drive passions the way that President Obama did in the previous two elections. Democrats were enamored by President Obama. They’re much less infatuated with Hillary Clinton. This is allowing the grassroots efforts of Bernie Sanders and others to push them up in the polls.

A recent straw poll by FreedomWorks for America was a very important sign for Cruz. His conservative values are expected to bring him top billing on all such straw polls because it’s usually the most conservative that play in those circles, but his victory was far greater than most would imagine. His 41% far exceeded the second place 12% that Carson received. Trump came in third with 8%.

The organization, which boasts over six million grassroots volunteers, represents the type of kickstart that the Cruz campaign will need over months preceding the primaries. Trump gets more television airtime than every other GOP candidate combined. His army of internet followers is huge. The best chance for someone like Cruz, Carson, Marco Rubio, or Carly Fiorina to do well in the early primaries is if they’re able to galvanize the conservatives.

It’s easy to dismiss straw poll numbers, particularly on the right where these summits are often dominated by the Tea Party. However, when candidates get the type of unquestionable numbers that Cruz is receiving, it’s clear that Trump is not a foregone conclusion as the GOP nominee.

Noozeez – Some brands become famous for making excellent products and some become better known for their spectacularly bad customer service. While Samsung and Sony are known for the longevity of their electronic and their readiness to handle any issues, this certainly isn’t the case for other brands. Typically, a blog post is written from an outsider’s perspective, but this one will include a lot of personal anecdotal reasons as to why the brand LG is dead to me.

The Tale of Woe

Most of us can clearly remember the days when tube televisions were the best on the market; the best you could purchase. They weighed hundreds of pounds and were incredibly difficult to move. For this reason, I purchased one of the first plasma televisions on the market as I was sick of moving a 36” inch Sony monster from home to home. The weight of the product was overbearing and required more than two people to move. Basement deployment was nearly impossible.

At that point, plasma was the new hot electronic and it took a long time for them to become affordable for the average family. Plasma was quickly followed by several other technologies that were equally fresh when they first showed up on the market. However, I owned a plasma. It was made by HP and had a whitewash feature to prevent screen burn-in, or so it said. Needless to say, with a gamer in the house, the TV lasted a dramatically less time than had the five hundred pound Sony.

The next purchase was an LG 1080p LCD 55” television. The picture on that television in comparison with the plasma was insane. Everything was crystal clear and it felt as though you were in a movie as you were watching it. Don’t even get me started on how amazing it was to watch a blu-ray disc on that television. To say that my household was thrilled with the purchase would be a gross understatement. However, that excitement was to be incredibly short-lived. Cut to three years later, when I returned home from a full-time shift at my day job. I was geared up to watch an episode of Sons of Anarchy when I turned the TV on and got a rapid cycling of all of the menu functions. I unplugged the tv and then tried again. It didn’t work. Needless to say, I called customer service and was very polite in relaying my issue. I was greeted with a less than stellar response. I was told that the motherboard was fried and I would have to pay for the repairs, as my warranty had expired. To make a long story short, the repairs and shipping of that TV to a certified repair center cost nearly half what the TV had cost when I purchased it. During the time of my ownership, prices had fallen as the market was gearing up for a whole new batch of technology. I could have replaced the TV for less than it cost to fix it, professionally. So that’s what was done. Two years after that purchase, I had the same problem. Once again, the television simply quit working, right outside the warranty date. LG’s customer service was less than helpful, again. The costs were similar; $400 to fix the television or $500 to buy a brand new one. Guess which choice was made this time. I bought the new one, except this time, I went with an entirely different brand and declared LG dead to me.

The Conclusion

The moral of this story is not that LG is a substandard company that is making useless products. I’m positive in both cases, the situation was an absolute fluke. However, in dealing with their customer service department, I was expecting a somewhat apologetic –or at least sympathetic –person and what I got was lackadaisical, throw your hands in the air, couldn’t care less attitude. I felt personally scorned by the company itself, as a result of customer service.

Customer service is supposed to be the line of defense between a brand and frustrated customers, and therefore, the responsibility lies with the person on the other end of the line to allay the customer’s concerns. Have we become a society to whom this doesn’t matter? Are electronics companies making so much money that they just don’t care about a product they’ve manufactured, going kaput after two short years? Had LG cared a little more, they may have retained a customer who isn’t willing to steer future customers away from that purchase.

Noozeez – Track safety is very important in the auto industry.  Because our cars of today are so finely tuned, much like our athletes, more tracks allow novice drivers to come out to the track and test their skills because they just can’t get to these speeds on normal roads without the possibility of a ticket or losing their licenses.  This is great for the tracks because so many people are now willing to pay the money to test their skills at the track and see how their driving matches up with their new high performance vehicle that has been limited by the roads until now and yearns to be unleashed.

The problem with inexperienced or even novice drivers coming to the track and trying their hand at driving has many layers.  The first problem is most drivers have no real understanding of how the track works and what speeds they will be safe driving at. They want to push the gas pedal and never touch the brakes, but that is not what driving is about.  Another problem is the fact that tracks have had such lax instruction and safety standards that drivers typically doesn’t have much preparation time in order to be ready to drive on the track.

The results of these laid back standards, lack of prep time, and complete lack of understanding of the track itself have resulted in many crashes by drivers in their own cars, many of them fatal and unfortunately some incidents that have included the loss of lives by driving instructors.

If you think driving on a track is easy and it’s not something to take seriously, you should talk to Don Salisbury. Don has been a driving instructor for over thirty years and has helped many drivers learn how to drive on the track. During this time he has seen many problems that he knows needs to be fixed in order to allow the tracks to become safer and drivers to be better informed to keep themselves and their instructors safer on the track.

The first part would be much better classroom work and more stringent requirements. This would at least give some understanding of what actually would take place on the track, but the next part for any driver would be some actual track work and experience.

That next part would involve students to work the corners at a track and see exactly how they work. This would give a much better understanding of what is going to happen when behind the wheel. Another factor in this corner issue is the needs to have two flagmen work each corner in order to respond more quickly to crashes and drivers that need medical attention.

A central governing or managing body is also needed for these open race days in order to have all the different clubs that run their own days follow one set of rules which would govern any track with an open race day. These rules would then be taught in the classroom part of the day in order to make sure drivers understood what they needed to know to be safe on the track and have them all following the same rules.

Finally, Salisbury states that the tracks need to have speed limits. He even suggests a 90 mph speed limit for novice drivers and 100 mph for those who are more experienced. With so many of these drivers bringing their own car to the track that is not intended to crash at high speeds or could not withstand an end over end catastrophic incident these lowered speeds ensure better safety for drivers and instructors in case of an accident or a misstep on the track.

Adding these and many other regulations can help keep the tracks fun and exciting while maintaining some level of safety. If a governing body or track does not do this themselves, sooner or later the government and lawyers will step in and the fun will most likely be reduced even more.

The SRT team drove the car for 10.2 miles and 183 seconds during the test. The Hellcat was completely stock except for the necessary items that TRC requires which includes a bolt-in roll bar, a racing harness and a fire-extinguisher system. In order to gain the most accurate test speed three radar guns, the GPS LapTimer and VBOX equipment were all used to record the speed of this amazing and highly powerful car at its top speed.

The result was an average of 204 mph in the two-way test allowing the SRT team to be able to boast about the top speed average they achieved in their Hellcat. Even though there is tire scrub to deal with at the TRC track, the overall length of the track offered the ability for the car to be driven a high speeds and achieve the top speeds posted. Now that the Hellcat has been tested in a format that doesn’t involve computers or a wind tunnel, Dodge and the SRT team can confidently say the car is an over 200 mph car that will give any driver a highly exciting ride, just ask the driver who performed this test.

Swap it Out – One thing you’re going to find in your first apartment is that the shower usually sucks, more than a little bit. Well there is a cheap and easy way to remedy this and it’s virtually impossible to mess it up. Buy yourself a fancy new shower head and enjoy a rain shower from the comfort of your own home.

Put it Down – Hate your cheap and beige carpeting? There are ten different places to buy cheap rugs on the internet, so get yourself a couple rugs and throw them all over the place in your new home. It’s a great way to personalize the space without ruining anything or dropping major bucks!

Losses – This car is one that causes Porsche to continually lose money even at this high price.  Most supercars do lose money but this one has been a loss leader for Porsche even at the massive price that it calls for.  Even though it loses money, Porsche found it worth the time to actually build this car that would certainly be one that would give us the performance perfection we desire.

Computers – One of the engineers let the cat out of the bag and informed that the computers were difficult to fit in the build that was offered.  There are computers running everything in this car from the infotainment system to the electric water pumps and beyond.  The testing of this car was so arduous that most of the time the engineers put the computers in flight cases and bolted them on for the testing.

Repairs – This car has to be broken in half in order to have any repairs performed on it.  This is due to the two piece construction of the carbon-fiber structure of the car.  You can certainly change the spark plugs yourself, but that is about all and any major repairs would require the two shells to be separated in order to access the areas needed.

Braking – This braking system does more than just stop the car.  This car is meant to use the regenerative braking to power the battery pack, ABS, stability control systems and still feel like it should when driving.  This certainly makes the car one of the smartest on the planet and even the braking system is so smart you will be simply amazed by it.

Paint – How much should a paint job cost?  Try $60,000 for the Porsche 918.  This paint includes the Liquid Metal Silver and Liquid Metal Chrome Blue that are the base colors along with ten other standard paint colors that can be put on this beautiful car.  As a car that will be able to offer anything a buyer asks for this is about right for the paint job.

Light Wheels – As technology has become more advanced the weight of cars has come down quite a bit including the wheels.  The magnesium wheels that are standard on this car are light.  They are so light that you can actually lift them with only one finger.  These wheels cost $32,500 and are part of the standard $84,000 Weissach package which makes for much more dynamic driving and helps to keep the weight down of the car.

Fit – If you really are considering this car as your purchase, you need to make sure you fit in it first.  The seats are adjustable to the front and rear but not for height and they don’t recline.  The steering wheel will telescope but not tilt and the windshield pillar comes close to your head in the driver’s seat.  Before you buy this car make sure you will fit inside and be able to comfortably drive it.

Soundless – The 918 has an electric mode to make it silent but when the engine is needed quickly the engine will quickly rocket to life and for those who are outside of the 918 you will see the car take off well before you ever hear it come to life.  This car is made to be quiet but to quickly come to life in order to be the most dynamic drive and to take of quickly in perfect silence but then produce and ear splitting scream.

The Porsche 918 has been the most impressive car that has ever been built in order to produce an amazing amount of power from the engine that is mated to the electric motors that add  a great deal of power to the car.  For the few who get the chance driving is a dream.
