The rush is on

As I stated in the past things are moving fast. Last week six cadets gave to the wounded hero program $2,700.00, this money will help 27 family’s suffering from PTSD. And the next step is the final preparation for both the ball, and the command inspection. The cadets have been working hard and at the end, I know they will rise to the occasion. April will not slow down, we have Pocket Flag folding , with the 8th grade at the middle school. This great event is a teaching for the younger students, and a flag with a note to soldiers who are deployed. The day after that the 27th we start the work to raise money for the Shriner Circus. The hope is to raise over $60,000. Wow lets not forget 4 days later the National Color Guard will take of for Daytona Beach to compete for a National title. I hope all of you will wish them well, as I do.

About 2 weeks back I started to think the youth around me had stopped thinking about our service members. Well I know this is not so, a hand full of cadets started a fund raiser for the Wounded Heroes of Maine, and in two days they have raised over $900.00 for this great cause. As we watch the wars from our homes, these young Americans lived it. The problem is when they came home everything had changed. They also have changed, and they are finding it hard to pick up the lives they left. As a Vet I can feel for them, and these young people want to try to help. If you see them in uniform out front of a store in Newport, stop and ask them what it means to them, you will surprised what you will hear. And I am not to proud to ask you to help by giving what ever you can.

The next three months

As January comes to a close, we are looking forward to the upcoming months. During the months of February and March we are in preparation for the month of April. April has many surprises for us, first the Military Ball on 7 April, a night for parents and cadets to spend time together. This night also honor’s the upcoming leadership, and the seniors on graduation. The following week is the command inspection from Ft. Dix. the inspection is the time for the cadets to show that what I and the Colonel believe to be true, that Nokomis JROTC is the best. After the cadets show this, the next step will be the shrine circus at the end of the month, this is the time the cadets will raise money for the children burn center. Still not done, the National Color Guard will head to Daytona Beach for a chance at a National title. So as you can see the Corps of Cadets are very busy, so I hope you can find time to support them.

The year in the past/to come

As we enter the new year, lets take a look back on all the accomplishments of the Corps of Cadets. Our Drill team took the overall championship for Northern New England league. Along with this the training started at 6;30 am every morning. Then came the drive to help feed the hungry, the Corps collected 28 turkeys, and over 600 can goods, what a great job, well done. The Corps did not stop with this, they took on 86 kids for Xmas. with the help of past students, the Warrior Nation every child received more then one gift under the tree. All of this was hard work of the cadets of the Nokomis JROTC. Now things to come, Raiders has started and the team is almost picked. We have 5 competitions to do and one will be held at Nokomis on 12 April, come give the kids your support. We are also getting ready for the command inspection to take place in April. This inspection makes the difference of the program, which we have been ranked number 1 for the last 9 years, and I know they will do it again. Lets not stop now we still have the shrine circus in April, and the National color guard has been asked back for a shot for the chance to be the all around champion. This will take place in Daytona Beach.So as you can see alot still to do, so I hope you are as proud of these kids as I am. I almost forgot the Milatary Ball on 7 April.

Giving Tree update

With the way the world is today, we still find that people will give. This year we have 86 kids on the tree, and due to you help all will have something under the tree. As fast as we put up the bulbs they were gone, showing that there is hope for our world. So if you took a bulb have them back to the JROTC by next Friday. After all of this thank all of you for your help. For this is a great cause.

Giving Tree

After vacation, we the JROTC will be putting up our giving tree. The need is great this year to help kids have gifts under the tree. At this time we have 24 kids that want something under the tree. Have four more schools to respond, but all say they need help. So I ask that you find it in your heart to give something to this cause. In advance thank you.

Food drive a hit

For those who need

On the 22 of this month the food drive came to an end. The drive raised 600 can goods, 25 turkeys, and thanks to Buzz for donating 50 or more bags of apples. When we showed up at the food bank the smiles grew from the people working. I asked the question, did you think we weren’t going to be here, she smiled. As we unloaded the van I asked was it though this year, the response was over 100 family’s were in need of help. So it was a good feeling that the cadets gave so much. Thanks

Food drive

Knowing that times are hard the Nokomis Warriors are having a food drive. We are looking for turkeys, can good or any thing to fill the shelves. Cadets get merits for the items, which helps the grade of the cadet. But the bigger outlook is helping to feed those that need help. So I ask all who read this please give, not matter how much it will help. So I will end this with thank you for your help and support.

Drill is done

Today was a great day for the drill team. The hard work paid off, taking the overall for unarmed drill. The team came to win and they did. Two first place two third place and the overall. The armed team had some trouble but also did well. With the end of drill, Monday starts Raiders. This will be the next challenge for the Warrior Battalion. Thanks team and “Go Warriors”.

This last weekend in Vermont the drill team struck another time. If you could have seen them on the floor, you would have been proud. Hands down the armed platoon took first place with no one else even close. Unarmed also took first with another outstanding performance. Then came both squads taking second, and two third place. The next and final performance will be on 12 November, at MMA. This is the most important one, the is the championship for Northern New England. I know the team will give all they have. Another time I have to say how proud of this team I am. “Go Warriors”
