You know you can’t replace the dead battery of your iPad yourself, atleast not easily. But now, you won’t really have to go the hard way ether. Apple would replace your old iPad with a new one in case its battery stops holding charge.

“If your iPad requires service due to the battery’s diminished ability to hold an electrical charge, Apple will replace your iPad for a service fee,” states iPad’s FAQ section on Apple’s website.

The service fee involved here is $99 along with $6.95 shipping charges and local taxes. But in case you end up with a dead battery, be sure to backup all your data before sending your iPad to Apple. ”Before you submit your iPad for service, it is important to sync your iPad with iTunes to back up your contacts, calendars, email account settings, bookmarks, apps, etc. Apple is not responsible for the loss of information when servicing your iPad,” Apple warns.

Apple also states that the iPad would not be eligible for battery replacement service in case it is damaged, which involves actions like liquid contact or unauthorized service/modifications.

A new Apple patent that is exciting gadget lovers promises to use NFC (Near Field Communication) in a way we would really love. Your iPhone combined with a pin code would unlock your home, office, car or any other door that you want to open.

It happens to me quite often that I am left out of the home without a key and have to wait for some family member to arrive back with the keys. A little twist to this technology and you could even authorize limited or temporary access to guests / visitors with ease.

However IMO the challenge for Apple would be to ensure widespread compatibility for this technology. Its not that Apple is alone working on such a concept, leading car makers are already replacing keys with keyfobs and it would be in Apple’s interest to keep its product compatible! Nevertheless our future looks really really geeky…

Ps: Apple has over 3000 patents in last few years, compared to 300+ by Google and some 50’s by HTC. So you should be aware that concept and reality are poles apart.

A note before you continue reading this: if you are a feminist, you’re surely not gonna like this!

I have come across some cool and some green designs by YankoDesign, but nothing beats this! Designed by Andy Kurovets, it’s a mouse, and not a regular one. The design (and the color) resembles *you know what* part of a woman’s anatomy. (you may even consider replacing your Mac Magic Mouse with his one)

It even has a “favorite” button. You click it and it takes you to your favorite spot. Be a website or an application or whatever you like. And this fav button has been aptly placed on the g-spot of the mouse (no, I don’t mean it for the female part here).

In fact, this very button is the concept of this design – taking you to your favorite place with just one click. (it ends at the concept, no plans of commercialization, at least for now.)

I think it’s a perfect gift a girl could give to his guy on Valentine’s Day (or even on the first night of the wedding! ).

Maybe they could add a feature like playing some sound when g-spot is touched or what if they decide to include a plug-in pen with it…

Indians now don’t have to wait for the iPad to be launched in India. Founders of Hyderabad based startup Notion Ink, Rohan Sharavan and Rohit Rathi have come up with a tablet PC called Adam, which is being billed as iPad Killer.

After an initial prototype of Adam was showcased at CES, the tablet is scheduled for a Sunday showcase at MWC, Barcelona. But was first previewed at Hyderabad’s BVRIT Innovation Centre, where Notion Ink is based.

Design of the Adam Tablet, as Markarand Deshpande (an alumnus and visiting faculty at National Institute of Design) says, has been inspired by a spiral-bound notebook. As a designer for Adam, Makrand says that they did not simply give in to the current trends in design of the touchscreen devices, that are more concentrated on making extensive use of the features of OS, while keeping the external design minimalistic. Rather, they had an extensive design survey and analysis to identify many more ‘happening’ trends.

That resulted in Adam havinga swivel camera, a feature that makes it unique from other other tablet devices.

As Makrand says,

“You can record lectures while simultaneously taking notes on it.”

On the specs front, Adam seems to to justify its billing as an iPad Killer.

OS : Android 2.1 (Chromium and Ubuntu support coming soon)

Processor : nVidia’s Tegra 2 dual core ARM Cortex A9. This gives Adam full HD support (1080p as against iPad’s 720p)

Display : Two different versions here : One with a 10-inch transreflective Pixel Qi screen (assures better visibility under direct sunlight) and one with a standard LCD display.

Flash Support : Yes!! It runs Flash 10.1

Connectivity : 3 USB Ports, an HDMI port and an expandable SD Card Slot. (iPad has no USB support)

3G Support : yeah!! But sadly, not for the Indian version of the Adam, as the government here is still going at a snail’s pace to roll out 3G Spectrum.

Battery Life: Tegra 2 Chip and Pixel Qi screen means that Adam has a battery life (and performance) twice than that of iPad.

The makers of Adam say the US market will provide them a huge opportunity, because of the users’ general high awareness of the technology. Adam will first be launched in the US around June/July. No word on pricing though.

Adam certainly has a lot of potential. It can sure give a lot of sleepless nights to guys at Cupertino. We wish the makers all the luck for their product. And We cant wait to get our hands on it. Stay tuned to OnlyGizmos for more details of an Indian Launch.

Nimbuzz, the award-winning new-generation mobile operator & social network aggregator, has today launched its Symbian 2.2 client packed with new features including a world first for Symbian handsets, pop up notifications, and full Twitter functionality.

From today, Nimbuzz users on Symbian can enjoy integration with the world’s fastest-growing social network, as Nimbuzz incorporates a feature-rich Twitter client that includes Timelines, Direct Messaging, Searches, Trends and Profiles, and outperforms standalone Twitter applications.

A groundbreaking world first for Symbian handsets is the introduction of pop-up notifications, notifying users of incoming chats and events, while the application runs in the background.

Further significant additions to the Symbian update include kinetic scrolling for 5th edition touch screen phones, new chat screen and contact list layout, chat history, plus a direct link to the NimbuzzOut rate calculator for international calls have also been added.

Available as a free download from Symbian app stores, such as Nokia’s Ovi Store, and from www.nimbuzz.com, the new Nimbuzz for Symbian is unique in offering a centralised messaging client with the most comprehensive all-in one feature set – VoIP calls, Instant Messaging and file-sharing with the world’s most popular social networks, plus presence, profiles, location and now Twitter – making it the ‘must have’ application for Symbian users.

The Symbian release comes at a time of phenomenal growth for Nimbuzz; having passed the 13 million registration milestone last month, Nimbuzz now enjoys a current growth rate of over a million new registrations each month (that’s a new Nimbuzz user every 3 seconds!), an active user base of over 30% and an international user footprint of 220 countries, covering every corner of the globe.

Evert-Jaap Lugt, founder & CEO of Nimbuzz commented: “We are delighted to announce the integration of Twitter with our new Symbian client. Nimbuzz for Symbian is by far our most sophisticated client and the only product available to offer users such a comprehensive range of features and such a complete communications experience on one.”Similar Posts:

A mobile that has come from the Verizon group of launchers with the same sawy message lovers, and as a great addition it also added Wi-Fi and dual-mode CDMA/GSM but missed for the HTC inner circle the HTC Ozone is much more like snap, in dimensions except that it’s a little less heavier and also slightly angular over the edges. The Ozone is dipped in black in the front panel and to surprise its users the back cover has been painted in grey.

It has a 2.4 inch QVGA display and is not a touch based screen, it can support up to 64K colors and has a bright and clear output, though actually not very sharp. Ozone’s navigation controls are a bit different. The keypad has a central OK button, two soft keys, a Home shortcut, and a back button all in rectangular shape. The talk button as well serves as voice recorder. The designers haven’t really introduced large aesthetics

Snap had a curved keypad, where in Ozone has a straight one. The keypads are a little cramped and messy too. It’s not all that bad but surely could have been better. There are shortcut launchers for controlling features like the airplane mode, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. There also special shortcuts to messaging app and mute mode. The volume rocker sits on the right spine, while the USB port and headphone at the bottom.

The Ozone ships with a wall charger with international plug adapters, a USB cable, a wired headset adapter, a software CD, and reference material.

As already mentioned the phone focuses on messaging and being a windows mobile 6.1 device, it has uses Microsoft direct push technology for email delivery and it also synchronizes with your Outlook calendar, tasks, and contacts via Exchange Server. Ozone also supports POP3 and IMAP e-mail accounts. The other offerings from Ozone are pretty much the same. A Microsoft office mobile with document editing and PIM tools like a calendar, a task list, a calculator, and an alarm clock. Though the operating system looks little stale and old, two things that needs to be appreciated are: integrated Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and dual-mode for CDMA and GSM network support.

The CDMA/GSM support makes it possible to have voice and data support over 220 different countries. The Ozone supports Verizon’s EV-DO Rev. it promises an average downloading speed of 600 Kbps to 1.4 Mbps. Ozone also comes with Internet Explorer, RSS Hub and Adobe Reader. The voice features include speakerphone, speed dial, conference calling, and voice commands and dialing. The phonebook has only limited memory space where you can store even personal information like the birthdates, email address and photos could also be tagged to the contact list.

As far as other features are concerned you will find remote desktop, Active Sync and a voice recorder. As a part of Verizon offerings you will find VZ Navigator, Visual Voice Mail, Mobile Broadband Connect, and Wireless Sync. The multimedia features are not that very neither expensive nor impressive. The same old 2mpx camera with the orange brownish blur over the pictures taken.

Battery Li – Ion, 1500 mAh

Talk 4.83 hours (290 mins) of Talk time
Standby 324 hours (14 days) of Stand-by time

Main Display

But at the same time VX was launched two years back, which put fourths lots of improved features to be included in the new model like touch-screen and internal displays are bigger, the keyboard has a better layout, the 3.2-megapixel camera has more advanced settings, the 3.5mm headset jack accommodates your own headphones.

Unlike the Voyager, enV doesn’t support mobile TV which can be considered as the only missing feature. The screen measures about 4.52’’ long, 2.6’’ wide and 0.66’’ thick. Though the enV is a little heavier with its 4.9 ounces weight, it still looks stylish and sleek posing a small resemblance of LG Versa and LG Dare. The touchscreen completely dominates the entire front panel, just giving a small room for the three keys send, clear, end/power keys. Clear key with a long press can be activated to record voice. The display supports 1.6 M colors all bright, sharp and vibrant.

At the bottom of the screen a row of shortcut icons are arranged horizontally, which gives you instant access to these applications, along with an arrow mark at the side which reveals the complete menu. You can very well customize the shortcut icons on the screen by simply dragging and dropping these icons on the main screen. The phone comes along with a touch calibration supporting wizard, with which you can customize the phone to your touch. On the whole the touchscreen is quite responsive.

The touch was a little making you feel irritated when it was used in the browser to activate links and icons you need to tap atleast more than once. The other problem is that when scrolling through links it’s a bit clumsy that sometimes unknowingly some other application or link gets activated and this would make the users feel frustrated, atleast till we get used to.

To open up applications we can either use the touch interface or also make use of the inbuilt voice recognition system which takes the application name as the input and opens the wizard for you. The accelerometer is good and QWERTY keyboard is easy to use, in this mode. As you press each key the letter get magnified just like the iPhone. The volume rocker, camera key and lock key are all concentrated on the left side, while the micro SD slot and 3.5mm Jack on the right.

The 3’’ internal display is as big as the front panel and also follows the same output in terms of display. The screen is bordered by two stereo speakers and just underneath is the full QWERTY keyboard, more or less like Voyager. The difference one might notice after using the Voyager with the QWERTY keypad is that there’s now a Favorites button that leads to your favorite contacts page, a dedicated text-messaging button, plus the usual Shift and Symbol keys. The biggest change is that the space bar is now located in the middle of the keyboard instead of to the sides.

The features of enV touch are all that, which have been borrowed from Voyager with small touch-up here and there. Just that the enV lacks the V mobile TV support, which is verizon’s live TV streaming service. For advanced users the USB and mass storage is a big boon. The enV comes with a document viewer, which allows you to view Microsoft application built documents. As far as E-mails are considered there are three ways in which you can access them – email directly from different services like yahoo, AOL. You can have mobile corporate e-mail courtesy of RemoSync, with which you can sync your official mails with your mobile. And the other is Web e-mail services like Windows, AOL mail and yahoo mail.

The enV touch comes with a EV-DO rev. A, which is touch faster than the Voyager, but however enV really lacks the Verizon’s array of broadband services like V cast video, where you can download stream cast video from providers like CBS, CNN, V Cast Music. Music player is as such very simple and you can customize the songs, the way you want them. The phone is very much operable only in music mode that it shuts of all calls, this mode helpful especially when you are traveling. 8GB is more than enough, but if you are dissatisfied, then you can very well extend it upto 16GB.

As far as the camera quality the images looks sharp and bright with a light mix of blurriness. You can take pictures in five different resolutions, five white balance presets, and five color effects. The camera has a few special effects like smile shot, Panorama, Intelligent shot, facial makeover mode. There is also a name card mode, where picture is specially taken for business card and words are eligible. As far as the video recorder is concerned the quality is really appreciable for a camera phone. The video can be recorded in two resolutions in two different lengths.

On the whole the audio quality is really good. Downloading a song of 1.5MB took about 30 seconds. V cast videos are also well supported. The battery life also seems bearable. All together the enV’s great touch design and top notch features make it a top rated Verizon Wireless Phones.Similar Posts:

The mobile was announced by Samsung in the late April 2009 and it started being a company for the HTC Magic and T-Mobile G1. On the whole galaxy is a filled with some of the best features like a 5 mpx camera, a D-pad instead of a track ball and 8 GB internal memory.

Inside the box
The package that galaxy comes with looks little dull, but still the small tint of black mixed with the full white has added to contrast look of the sides.
• The Samsung Galaxy i7500
• Case
• microUSB charger
• microUSB cable
• Stereo headset with 3.5mm jack
• Software CD
• User guide

Design
The design is indeed fine though its similarity to Jet S8000 and Omnia II I8000 is very apparent along with the mix of its look from HTC magic. The Samsung Galaxy I7500 is made of plastic but sure doesn’t give you a cheap look either in its design or its feel, though this material is not touch resistive and you are to leave your finger prints all over, the phone is comfortable to handle. The screen size is 3.2 ‘’ capacitive display; with an AMOLED technology used the device can render up to 16 million colors. One best feature about the display is that the phone retains its look under direct sunlight, except that all finger prints are much more evident.

The trackballs have been replaced by a 5 directional D-pad, where the usage feels a little better than the previous ones. D-pad is circumference by 4 special keys “Call”, “End Call”, “Menu”. The right side houses the lock key which helps lock/unlock the device, left side rooms the Volume rocker. On the top is located the 3.5mm jack and micro USB. And as usual the back houses the loudspeakers and the 5 mpx camera lens with LED flash.

Galaxy has used the latest version of Google created operating system Android 1.5, although major improvements have been made to the GUI nothing is really evident in the interface available for usage. Phonebook is being integrated with google contacts and gives you a wide range of options to edit or add existing or new contacts. All messaging features SMS, MMS and e-mail messages plus you have several IM clients and integrated Gmail are very much supported.

Since galaxy is a touch based device there are no special dedicated keypads, but the typing and virtual keypad is not all that worse. The keypad is available in 2 modes and is operational in both directions of the screen. As far as the alpha-numeric is concerned the keys are well spaced and doesn’t really look like there could be a problem with typing.

The 5 mpx camera performs fine in natural sunlight and also the output is surely above average and what one can expect, but having used the latest OS I am sure there must be atleast a few newer features added to the camera functionality. But to the biggest disappointment there are no extra additional features.

Multimedia features are also not all the great atleast they are not in competition with any of the other latest Samsung models. The phones interface looks good but could have still been better. The headphone is perfect to choose the design of the phone. Galaxy lacks support to FM radio, but that can be replaced by the facility to get music online. iMeem mobile application helps you do this.

On the whole the workmanship put into galaxy is really appreciable and beautiful display. But there might also be a disappointment due to the unhandy alignment of the navigational buttons and the mediocre in-call quality.
