Setting Up Your Own Home Studio

In this episode of the RoundTable, we discussed the necessary hardware, software and bandwidth requirements to set up your own home studio. Here is a short list of what we talked about tonight:

Aside from the obvious, a decent computer, you also need to have a good microphone and headphones or a good headset. The Logitech USB Headset was mentioned and comes highly recommended for podcasting and videocasting. Speaking of video, a good webcam is necessary for producing videos and you can usually pickup a good one for $20 or more almost anywhere. Of course, the higher the price, usually the better the quality!

Software, mostly free, such as X-Lite or SJPhone for calling into Talkshoe and Vemotion or VoiceEmotion for injecting audio into your live podcasts. The trial version will work for most, however, if you want the full recording capability, $19.95 is a small price to pay for the full version. You can click on the Vemotion link on the sidebar to download the trial version or to purchase your license.

Bandwidth is real important for a good quality production. Depending on what you are wanting to achieve, you should have a minimum of 400k Upload and 1mb Download to have a good quality audio and/or video production.

Well, another year has come and gone and tonight, we will kick off the New Year with our first episode of 2010 talking about Web Collaboration tools.
