Using PDT for PHP Development

What is PDT? PHP Development Tools, previously known as PHP-Eclipse. Yes, it is the good ol' free eclipse, the lovable development environment used all over the world for Java development. And it has a PDT project, which brings the same love to PHP.

What you get in PDT? (by no means exhaustive, but what matters the most)

Code Completion. (Ctrl + Space)
Code Snippets Completion.
Type fore , Ctrl + Space, you get the foreach loop completed. Not very useful, you say. Well you can write you own code snippet, say my_fa auto completes to database query, and mysql_fetch_assoc, and iteration over result array. Customise your snippets in Window > Preferences > PHP > Templates.
Code Folding & Syntax Highlighting.
Task Tags.
Add @todo, FIXME tags in comments. And eclipse will remember your bugs and todos, and show them neatly in the Tasks list below.
Integration with CVS, and SVN (with a plugin).
Integration with Zend Debugger, or XDebug.
Integration with Bugzilla, or TRAC with a plugin.
Integration with Smarty Templates(*.tpl), and more.
KK has a post about associating TPL with HTML editing, you can try that. Or, you can also have the full smartyPDT support.

What you do not get in PDT?

Find and Replace across files / folders / project.
Word Wrap.
Yes, there is no word-wrap. Apparently it is not as straight-forward it seems to integrate a word wrap, as you have to keep track of actual line numbers, and virtual lines on screen during find, replace, etc. But well, you can use the Virtual-Word-Wrap that I use.
