When Nimsoft came together in 2004, I had big visions for the company. I wanted to establish the company’s technology as the standard for management of mid-market enterprises and service providers. I wanted to offer a customer experience that was second to none and to be known as the company that revolutionized the IT management space. I wanted us to innovate, to do things that nobody else had done before, to be willing to take risks…make mistakes. The next 6 years were about execution. Like any fast growing start-up there have been many challenges along the way, but we’ve always stayed true to our vision.

In the last couple of years, as cloud computing has become the architecture of tomorrow, Nimsoft has continued to innovate and now finds itself in an enviable position of pioneering new management platforms to deal with the new methods of delivering IT services. Cloud is driving disruptive change to many areas of IT and will drive disruptive change to IT management. Nimsoft will be helping drive the change, not being dragged along by it.

But, Nimsoft had a challenge to achieving our vision. The market is moving so fast and changing so rapidly, that I was concerned that Nimsoft could not, by itself, keep up. We were already hiring additional sales people and engineers as fast as we could, but there is a natural limit to how rapidly you can scale a business without breaking those things that are important to us, customer satisfaction being the top of the list.

When CA first suggested a conversation, I admit I had a brief moment of hesitation, but I quickly realized that this could be the perfect partner for Nimsoft and our customers. CA is making a commitment from the highest level of the organization to be the leader in cloud management. They recognize the importance of Service Providers and Emerging Enterprises to this new world, and they are an important focus of CA’s growth strategy. They made it clear that they want us to innovate and pioneer and add resources to accelerate those efforts.

This acquisition is transformative. I believe that the bringing together of these two companies is an event that will redefine IT management for many years to come. I am both proud and humbled by what we have achieved but most of all thankful to our employees and customers that have brought us to this place. I could not be more excited about the future and playing my small part in it.

Welcome to tomorrow…..

I’m sure we all saw that a private equity firm has made an unsolicited offer for Novell.

I remember when Novell were the hottest tech company around. Netware was everywhere. Look at this from 1997….

Novell defined the networking operating system marketplace, with close to 15 years of experience serving over 55 million users worldwide. Today, as the fourth largest software company in the world and the networking leader…

Tech is an amazing industry – companies can, and regularly do, go from a position of dominance to being an also-ran so quickly. Novell was the fourth largest software company in the world !

The innovators dilemma – having to be willing to cannibalize the existing business for the future. it’s a brave decision to do this but it’s the only way to stay on top.

Wonder where Google will be in 10 years? Dominant or fending off private equity plans to sell off pieces.

Unthinkable I know but let’s chat in 10 years time and see.

Congrats to long time Nimsoft customer ACS, now part of Xerox of course….

Affiliated Computer Services, a Xerox Company, has unveiled a new data centre, which the company says will cut carbon emissions and reduce energy costs.

The company claims that the new £2m ($3m), 418 sqm (4,500 square feet) facility located in Telford combines technology with the highest calibre green credentials. It is estimated that savings up to 70% can be made on energy costs alone which in turn could reduce the carbon footprint by approximately 4,200 metric tonnes annually.

The new green facility expands ACS’ current data centre capabilities in Telford to now exceed 1,300 sqm (14,000 square feet). ACS took over the site in 1999 and employs more than 200 people in Telford with additional offices and data centres in London, Bristol and Altrincham, supporting more than 600 clients from both the private and public sectors.

ACS said that it has selected IBM to design and build the new facility and deployed nLyte Software to provide its Data Centre Performance Management (DCPM) offerings to drive the data centre’s green programme. In addition, automation and monitoring tools are provided by Nimsoft and network connectivity with Convergence Group.

Lynn Blodgett, CEO of ACS, said: “This new data facility’s innovative design makes good environmental sense as well as sound commercial sense. “By making environmentally conscious decisions, we can make informed business decisions to ensure our clients are more competitive.”

Thanks to the MSP that became a customer of ours on Sunday. Yep, came into the office at the weekend specifically to complete the paperwork with us…..truly appreciated – that’s the start of a wonderful relationship.

We’re going beta with a brand new offering this week. Alpha was completed successfully, beta starts now and GA launch is in April.

It’s funny….other software companies pre-announce products multiple months before they are due (and then they are late). I’m convinced that they do this so that they can announce the same thing 3 times – makes it look like they are delivering more.

We actually deliver the product first and then announce it. Weird that. Maybe we’ve got it wrong.

And…we’re still hiring….multiple open positions across the company. Looking for the brave and the strong (actually the smart and the hard working).

Seriously, it’s amazing to see how this company grows and evolves. I will be in the UK next week to see for myself – meanwhile here’s a picture of the entrance (what an amazing photo)

UK based process automation vendor, Enigmatec, appears to have gone into receivership in the UK last week. This would be a huge shame because I know they had some excellent customers that were using the product for provisioning private cloud environments.
Hopefully the technology and people find a good home.

I’m afraid that this is one of those teaser blogs. We have a big launch planned for early April so I’m not allowed to let the cat out of the bag, but it is yet again an “industry first”….Nimsoft is pioneering.

I remember a Gartner note of a couple of years ago stating that most companies were not innovating in this space.

Nimsoft is showing them the way.
