Favorite Lomo Cameras: My LC-A+ and Holga

Favorite effect produced by Lomo cameras: Best effect is the slight blurriness that all lomo cameras have naturally, I used to make my pictures a little out of focus on my SLRs to mimic that lomo look even though my photography teacher always took points off.

Favorite film to use: My favorite film is Lomography’s Chrome X-Pro Slide 100, no matter what you take pictures of it makes them look amazing. I also just tried out Kodak’s Aerochrome Color Infrared film and the effects were awesome. It would definitely be my film of choice if it weren’t so rare.

How long have you been doing Lomography?
I started with Lomography in March so about 9 months ago.

What got you started in Lomography?
I got interested in photography about a year ago and got to use a Holga for an assignment for my photography class in school and from then on I knew I liked plastic cameras, cross processing, and double exposures. I found Lomography because I was looking to buy film online and stubbed across maximum_b‘s profile and became fascinated with all of his pictures. I finally decided to make my own account after stalking his for a few weeks.

Why do you Lomo?
I love Lomography because it creates images that can’t be planned ahead and cannot be made again. The Lomography community has lots of inspiration in its pictures and is fun to be a part of.

Why We Lomo was a project I started in 2009 to feature the many faces that Lomography has managed to capture. Its home was a now-defunct creative blog but has since found its new home here. 'Riding Bunny' by Tara McPherson

Analog photographers will get their panties wet for this as Darkroom Army launches their range of collectible cameras together with the ‘crown princess of poster art’ Tara McPherson. If her artworks seem familiar, you probably saw her work on the recent Kidrobot x Swatch range of watches. Tara is here to give Singapore a chance to own her third volume of creative artworks, shop at The Cotton Candy Machine Store, and to launch her limited edition Darkroom Army x Tara McPherson ‘Love Blows’ camera.

The Darkroom Army Gallery Store will also display unique collaborations with some of the brightest urban street artists in Singapore, together with Darkroom Army resident artist, Phu. Adding to the initial Red Army Camera x Phu special collaboration range ‘Soviet Rumble’, local urban artists like Clogtwo, SBTG, mindflyer, ANTZ, Z*E*R*O* will add their own spin on the special customized range of Red Army Cameras currently sold exclusively at Tangs Singapore.

If you’re a long time fan of Tara’s or now starting to be one, you’ll get a chance to meet the artist through a series of autograph sessions during her stay. She’ll also be there at the inaugural Darkroom Army Lecture Series where she lets us into a sneak peek of her artistic mind and world.

How long have you been doing Lomography?
Since Christmas 2010!

What got you started in Lomography?
I got a Diana F+ with a 35mm back from my little brother last Christmas. For years before that, I was shooting just with my DSLR. I don’t have much experience with a film camera before getting the Diana F+ so as expected, I had some problems with it at first. I wasn’t pleased with my first results. Then I realized that these lomo cameras love the sun and with me living in Vienna, the sun rarely shows up during winter time. But when the first sunny days of Spring arrived, the fun began! And to make the story short, I got addicted right away and bought more cameras and films.

Why do you Lomo?
I lomo because I love how you can play with a variety of films. For example, cross processing a Fuji Velvia 100 for a perfect Autumn photo or shooting a Fuji Sensia during Spring or taking photos of Architecture with a Fuji Velvia 50. I love the variations of lomo cameras like the 360 Spinner, the Sprocket Rocket or the LC-A+. I love the excitement when I pick up my negatives from the lab. It’s like a present that I am about to open. I get nervously excited every time and to think that I shoot 1-2 rolls a week. I love the challenge of producing great photos with analog photography especially in this day and age of digital photography where post production is done most of the time. I love to go outside and do nothing but shoot. To just shoot and just thinking about shooting, I love that.

How long have you been doing Lomography?
I started taking photos in 2001 with a Nikon F60, but in December 2004 I met a friend with a Lomo LC-A. Between me and the LC-A it was love at first sight and I get one immediately.

What got you started in Lomography?
Because I loved the camera design and the pictures you can get with it even though it’s usually “wrong” in standard photography.

Why do you Lomo?
I Lomo because I think that today, with a digital camera and a PC, it’s too easy to get nice “perfect” photos; without light leaks, vignettes, etc. These pics, for me, are useless and most of the time are saying nothing. With a Lomo camera I am able to search the human side of the photograph; with emotions, mistakes and uncertain results, just like what life is like everyday.

Favorite Lomo Cameras: Diana F+ CMYK – this is my first Lomo camera and still a favorite after more than a year. I also have a bunch of other cameras like the Lubitel 166B, Fuji Natura Classica, Vivitar UWS, even a DIY Gakkenflex TLR but the Diana F+ CMYK remains a firm favorite!

Favorite film to use: This one is a bit harder… I’ve always liked the Agfa CT Precisa 100 a lot, and Lomography X-PRO Chrome 100 has great colors too! And there is the Kodak EliteChromes, and also the black and white films like the Kodak TMAX. Just way too many to have a favorite.

How long have you been doing Lomography?
I’ve been shooting Lomography for slightly longer than a year now.

What got you started in Lomography?
I got poisoned by a Twitter buddy into getting myself a Diana F+ and I have been hooked ever since. I’ve tried my best to try out almost every other Lomography cameras I can get my hands on, ranging from the Spinner360 to the ActionSampler, Sprocket Rocket and more recently the La Sardina and LomoKino! (Ah…Yes! I got myself a LomoKino! Unboxing is still yet to be done though at this moment.)

Why do you Lomo?
Why do I Lomo? The answer is, why not? If you’re not already into Lomo, why aren’t you?

It’s just so much fun, and helps me to unwind and it satisfies my trigger-happy finger (which I never knew about until I started Lomo!) It has made me loads of friends, not just from the local scene where we meet up for LomoWalks and shoot together from time to time, but also friends from all corners of the globe who share this passion and hobby. There is always something to talk about, some tips to share and exchange. We get to see the sights of the world ON FILM! From time to time, I try my best to do collaborations with friends from around the world, “doubles” is what we call it. The result is almost always surprising, not to mention pleasing.
