Colorado Rockies Opening Day!

I was lucky enough to WIN two tickets to see the Rockies and Phillies on Friday. This was the Rockies home opener and they are off to a hot start after taking 2 of 3 from Arizona earlier this week. (Thats good figuring they only one three games against Arizona all last year) I won the tickets from Fox Sports Radio, they were very high up, above the 1 mile marker line they have at Coors Field, here are a few pictures from my camera phone, I took Aunt Dawn and she took more with her camera that I dont have yet. I also won a chance to meet former player Bob Boone from the local sports station in Denver. So I got his autograph and a Aunt Dawn has pictures of me and Bob Boone that I can post later. The Rockies won the game 10-3!

THIS WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHWESTERN FREMONT COUNTY ABOVE 8500 FEET... TELLER COUNTY... AND EL PASO COUNTY... INCLUDING PIKES PEAK... AND THE CITIES OF WOODLAND PARK AND COLORADO SPRINGS.

OVER THE LOWER ELEVATIONS OF EL PASO COUNTY... STRONG NORTHERLY WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH ARE EXPECTED TO DEVELOP DURING THE EARLY MORNING HOURS SATURDAY AND LAST INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF THE STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY SNOW WILL CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. TRAVEL ACROSS EL PASO COUNTY... MAINLY NORTH OF COLORADO SPRINGS... WILL BECOME DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE BY EARLY MORNING SATURDAY.

Nursing School and Valentine's Day

So it's been awhile since I have written on here. I have been super busy with school. I go down to Pueblo every Thursday for my clinical at the Mental Health Institute there. I was on the high-security floor for the first 4 weeks and tomorrow will be my first day on a floor called "circle." It's for patients dually diagnosed with a mental illness and substance abuse. I have to get up especially early tomorrow because my clinical group will be witnessing ECT (electroconvulsive therapy) at 7:30 am, which means we have to be in Pueblo at 7 am. In addition to going to Pueblo for mental health class, I also have a case study due every Monday at 8 am. These case studies are about 10 pages worth of nursing diagnoses, interventions, medications, outcomes, etc. which happens to be about 7-8 hours worth of work. I am also in a health teaching class this semester. The first couple weeks we did a one on one teaching where we are filmed teaching someone in our class something. I taught my partner how to draw up insulin by explaining the steps to him. The following week, we had to teach the same subject with a different domain (cognitive, psychomotor, etc.) so I actually brought in insulin and syringes so that I could show him, then he could show me back. Today we had to teach a powerpoint presentation to about 10 people in the class. I taught on assessing the cranial nerves (which was not the easiest thing to do, considering we only had 10 minutes to teach and there are only 2 nursing major in that class,... everyone else is a health science major and don't have to know about the cranial nerves). I thought I did horrible. My voice was shaky, I was fidgetting, I just get so nervous in front of people. But now that it's done, I feel so much better. Waking up this morning, I thought today was going to be impossible but I made it through! Anyway, so that's what I have been up to with school!

Nick has not blogged on Valentine's Day yet.. I think he wanted to save it for me! So here we go...
So Wednesday the 11th we got Papa Murphys Heart shaped pizza! Yummy!

I wanted to make cupcakes to take to my parents and Aunt Dawn's for Valentine's Day so Friday the 13th I made cupcakes. They have strawberry runts on them!

Valentine's Day morning (and by morning I mean 11:30 am) I woke up to a phone call from my mom. She said Happy Valentine's Day and I told her I was still sleeping. She said, "It's time to get up!" Well anyway, I said I would call her later. So I ended up getting out of bed and I walked in the dining room/living room to see Nick with some chocolate pancakes and eggs, and a HUGE balloon! Oh it was so wonderful!

We had planned on going to Aunt Dawn's that day because her plans were cancelled but Nick said he had to wait for something to be delivered. I figured it was flowers! I was bummed that we weren't going to go up to Castle Rock though but my parents decided to come down here for a while because they had some candy for us and we have cupcakes for them and they hadn't seen the apartment since we unpacked. My flowers arrived while my parents were here... and they weren't just flowers... they were 12 beautiful red roses!

Amazing! :) We were all hungry by then so my parents decided to take Nick and I to Old Chicago for pizza (we could eat pizza every night of the week)! It was so nice of them to do that. It was such a wonderful Valentine's Day! Nick is absolutely the BEST guy ever and I could not live without him!

Relay for Life - A.C.S.

Hello, so Emily is involved with the American Cancer Society's event Relay for Life at her school, UCCS. So, I created a little chip in for the event. Emily is in charge of the luminaria ceremony. Its really cool and she did a great job last year. You can buy a bag from here
or donate to the chip in and let me know. I bought one last year for Grandpa. I plan on video taping the ceremony this year and will post it on here. So just let me or Emily know if you have any questions. see ya

So... I realized that Nick posted the videos from Jaime's birthday but not any pictures!

Hey everyone! It's been a while and it's time for the ski trip update. So... Tuesday the 13th, Nick and I stayed the night in Castle Rock at my parents house. My friend Kendall had to work that night so after she got off, her parents drove her up to Castle Rock to my parents house. They all got there around 10:30pm and we had introductions because Nick and I had not met her parents yet... her parents wanted to make sure that she wasn't running off with some low lifes I guess. Well anyway, we headed to bed soon after because we had an early morning ahead of us!
The next morning we left around 6 am and headed to the mountains! The morning traffic wasn't too bad until we reached the 470 and I-70 connect... some lady drove into the dividing median where the roads separate, right where we had to exit so we went below 10 mile per hour there for about 10 minutes! After that minor accident but major back up, we were free from traffic along I-70 heading west. After we got through the Eisenhower Tunnel there was some slowing of traffic due to snow fall but the roads weren't too icy.
Finally we arrived in Frisco where Kendall and I rented our skiis from a Christy Sports there. The line was long but we got a good deal. So soon thereafter we left for Breckenridge; it seemed like a long drive because the closer we got to Breck, the worse traffic got. We weren't sure where we were going to park exactly but we ended up parking near the gondola. Now this is where it got tricky...
So you're probably wondering what happened to Joey. Well his sister picked him up from DIA Tuesday afternoon, then he stayed the night at her place in Boulder. We all were going to meet at the Christy Sports in Frisco but because they were running late, we (Me, Nick, and Kendall) decided to go ahead to Breck.
So now back to me, Nick, and Kendall... we got all geared up and rode the gondola up to the peak 7 where we could buy our $10.50 lift tickets (yay!) It was such a good deal! So we headed towards the lift. Joey, his sister, and her boyfriend had to park at the other gondola near peak 8 so we decided that we would ride one of the lifts up and then connect to peak 8. After a minor set back (Kendall's ski boot didn't fit on her ski so we had to get that fixed), we got to peak 8 base and finally met up with Joey. We rode down quite a few times but it was colder the higher up the mountain we went. Riding the lift up was the worst part because towards the top of the mountain the wind was blowing snow in our faces.

We were out most of the day skiing and boarding and then decided to head back to the hotel earlier then the rest of the crowd so we didn't have to wait in traffic.
The hot tub at the hotel was amazing for our achy muscles.
After a night full of drinking and having fun, we decided not to ski/board the next day (Thurday) because it was going to cost too much and we were all tired. I could go on and on but basically we had a great trip!

Alright so for the rest of Joey's trip... it was such a nice week so that Friday the 16th we went to Garden of the Gods and hiked around with Kendall we took lots of pictures...

and then Saturday me, Nick, and Joey went to the park and threw the football around and played some baseball/softball (I'm a better pitcher than I thought I was-- Nick slammed one out of the park though!)... On Sunday me, Nick and Joey hiked around at Palmer Park but we didn't bring our camera for that.
It was great having Joey out here for so many days! :)

Parade of Lights and the tree

Last night we went to the Parade of Lights downtown. There were a ton of people there! We ended up parking at the Antlers Hilton Parking garage and walking the couple of blocks to Tejon (where the parade was). The lighted floats were pretty awesome! One of them was for UCCS; It was candyland themed. My camera didn't take very good pictures because of the lighting. When we got home we decided to take some pictures in front of our Christmas tree.
