'Avatar: Seven Havens' Premiere Reveals Twin Avatars, What Happened After Korra and a Major Villain’s Return

SPOILER ALERT: This article contains spoilers for the three-episode premiere of “Avatar: Seven Havens,” now streaming on Paramount+.

Fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender are finally getting the next chapter in the hit animated universe. A new sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens, jumps ahead 225 years after the The Legend of Korra ending, and introduces Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra, only to find that in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, Pavi and her long-lost twin Nisha must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.

The world introduced Avatar and Korra has seen better days. At the end of The Legend of Korra, a portal from the Spirit World to Republic City opens up, allowing mystical creatures to pass more easily into the human world. Now 225 years later, the world has turned into a dustbowl, with pockets of civilization that are beset by random storms. The benders blame Korra, the last Avatar, as the person who doomed their world. They’ve also created the Seven Havens, the only cities remaining after the devastation. And as if things couldn’t be any worse, there are fewer and fewer benders born each year.

The first episode introduces Pavi (Saheli Khan), a young bender who’s secretly the Avatar and has a pet cat-monkey named Geet. She lives in Ellora, the Haven of sand and wind that’s overseen by Captain Karthik (Akshay Khanna). He helps run a training program that requires each bender in Ellora to register and help protect the city. One of his students, Jae (Major Curda), runs into Pavi and realizes she’s the Avatar when she uses multiple elements to save him from a storm outside the city. When they return safely, Pavi meets her long-lost twin sister Nisha (Aishu Devan) who’s also the Avatar.

Neither of the sisters can remember their parents or where they’re from, but they have a vision of playing with each other as kids once they reunite. Nisha was discovered by Karthik three years ago, and has been hiding her Avatar powers as his ward. Karthik, Jae and the twins are shocked at there being two Avatars, and they decide to keep their existence a secret since everyone thinks the last Avatar, Korra, caused the cataclysm. Suddenly, a bigger storm rolls in, and everyone must work together to protect the Ellora residents.

The storm also somehow brings in a version of Vaatu, the evil spirit of darkness and chaos introduced in The Legend of Korra. He was originally a gigantic, kite-like spirit, but now he’s smaller and has the ability to possess people. Pavi and Nisha stop the creature from wreaking havoc, but it escapes and shows them a vision of what appears to be the past cataclysm. With Ellora saved, Karthik brings Jae aside and reveals that he’s a member of the Order of the White Lotus, the ancient order tasked with training the Avatar. They start to train Pavi and Nisha and also stop a Vaatu-possessed animal from attacking people. At the end of the third episode, the twins decide to continue with Avatar training with Jae as their mentor, but they also want to search for their missing parents.

At the very end, there’s also a shot of some masked vigilantes looking down on Ellora as their next target. Who could these villains be, and are they looking for the young Avatars? Also, how much will Seven Havens reveal about the world’s mysterious near-apocalypse, and will Pavi and Nisha be able to revert things back to the way they were in Last Airbender and Korra? Instead of the 12-year break since Korra, fans will have to wait only one more week for the next three episodes to learn more.

Avatar: Seven Havens, along with the animated Avatar Universe, is streaming now on Paramount+!

Get ready, benders and non-benders! Today (Oct. 9) at New York Comic Con, Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko revealed in front of thousands of fans that Avatar: Seven Havens has officially been renewed for Books 3 and Book 4 on Paramount+. In addition, they announced a new Paramount+ original animated series, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, as the next installment in the iconic franchise.

Konietzko and DiMartino were joined on the panel by fellow Avatar: Seven Havens executive producer Ethan Spaulding and co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, along with the voices of Pavi, Nisha and Jae: Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan and Major Curda. Moderated by the original voice of Korra, Janet Varney, the panel gave fans exclusive insight into the making of the series, plus a special 'script to screen' clip.

The logline for Seven Havens states:

“Set in a world shattered by a devastating cataclysm, ‘Avatar: Seven Havens’ follows Pavi, a young Earthbender who discovers she’s the new Avatar after Korra, only to find that in this dangerous era, that title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior. Hunted by both human and spirit enemies, Pavi and her long-lost twin Nisha must uncover their mysterious origins and save the Seven Havens before civilization’s last strongholds collapse.”

The voice cast also includes Akshay Khanna as Karthik, Sakina Jaffrey as Agam, Darren Barnet as Daemin, Dianne Doan as Zi, and Dee Bradley Baker as Geet and Ruhi.

Avatar: Seven Havens is created by DiMartino and Konietzko, who also serve as executive producers via Avatar Studios. Spaulding is an executive producer as well, with Sethi as co-executive producer. Nickelodeon and Avatar Studios produce.

Avatar: Seven Havens Books 3 and 4 (or seasons 3 and 4) will continue the story of Avatar Pavi and her twin sister Nisha. The first three episodes of Book 1 premiered globally on Paramount+ today, and will be followed by episodes 4-6 on Friday, October 16, episodes 7-9 on Friday, October 23, and episodes 10-13 on Friday, October 30. More details on Books 2, 3 and 4 will follow at a later date.

In Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos a rebellious teenage Avatar bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits - all while helping the world in his own unique ways. Today's panel attendees were treated to an exclusive first look at Kuruk and his pet, Nikik. The upcoming series is produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios with co-creator Bryan Konietzko serving as showrunner.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game also took center stage on the panel. Moderator Janet Varney unveiled special in-game Avatar: Seven Havens colorways for the full roster of playable characters and Sonam's temple stage, alongside a shoutout to the upcoming OS: NYC event.

Varney also teased incoming Avatar: Seven Havens episodes of the official companion podcast, Avatar: Braving the Elements, which she co-hosts with Dante Basco (the original voice of Zuko). After 3 new episodes this week, 2 episodes a week will accompany the Avatar: Seven Havens Paramount+ rollout, featuring exclusive creator and cast interviews and more. Living Legend Stan Sakai Presents The Last Ronin's Spiritual Predecessor 'TMNT: The First Ronin'

LIVING LEGEND STAN SAKAI PRESENTS THE LAST RONIN’S SPIRITUAL PREDECESSOR TMNT: THE FIRST RONIN

FEATURING BREATHTAKING ARTWORK BY SOO LEE

LOS ANGELES, CA (October 8, 2026) – Renowned comic book creator Stan Sakai and Bram Stoker Award-winning artist Soo Lee are honoring the legacy of the chart-topping triumph TMNT: THE LAST RONIN with a captivating spiritual predecessor.

Variant cover by Stan Sakai, Emi Fujii

With the debut issue slashing into comic shops March 2027, TMNT: THE FIRST RONIN transports readers to 1600s Japan as the fearsome warrior and tactician General Kameyama is facing impossible odds in a great war. When his allies fall and he becomes the last man standing, the tide swiftly changes when four yōkai – supernatural creatures and monsters from Japanese folklore – who resemble humanoid turtles leap to his aid and defeat his foes. But Kameyama’s battle is far from over as the epic yōkai war approaches…

TMNT: THE FIRST RONIN is a showcase of Sakai’s unforgettable impact on the medium, presenting new character designs, writing, page layouts and an entirely new mythology from his rich imagination. Combined with Lee’s astonishing artwork, this is a must-read series for fans of TMNT: THE LAST RONIN and the visual storytelling that only comics can provide.

“As you may know, I have been a huge fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) since 1984 when both the Turtles and Usagi made their debut,” said Sakai. “I enjoyed all of their incarnations, including THE LAST RONIN, so I am really excited to be writing THE FIRST RONIN. It will have new variations of the Turtles, not mutants this time but yōkai. That is just one of the surprises in store.”

“I am so excited and honored to be a part of this new installment of the TMNT universe. And to be working with the comic legend, Stan Sakai, is an absolute dream come true,” stated Lee. “If there ever was a TMNT story that I would want to draw, this spin on the Turtles team is it. We’re adding a new vision and lore to the already beloved gang so I hope the fans will welcome this new journey and enjoy the adventure with us.”

“Thanks to the exceptional work of Kevin Eastman, Peter Laird and the full creative team, THE LAST RONIN is an undeniable pop culture phenomenon,” commented Davidi Jonas, IDW CEO. “Expanding on its legacy, especially with new creators, is not something we take lightly. But if there’s one person up to the task, it’s living legend Stan Sakai. Along with the amazing artist Soo Lee, we are absolutely blown away by the story they’re crafting. It’s sure to keep fans guessing until the final issue.”

Contact a comic shop near you to pre-order all five issues of TMNT: THE FIRST RONIN and other TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES comics. It’s the only way to guarantee your copies. TMNT: THE LAST RONIN III – RETURN FOR NEW YORK, the final chapter of the smash-hit saga from Eastman, Tom Waltz, the Escorza Brothers, Ben Bishop, and Luis Antonio Delgado, will also be released in 2027 with more information and art to be revealed in the coming months.

###

The Last Ronin was a five-issue comic book series published between 2020 and 2022, written by original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Eastman and Tom Waltz, based on an outline that Eastman had cooked up with fellow co-creator Peter Laird back in 1987. It is set in the future, in an alternate TMNT timeline, with Michelangelo the last remaining turtle as he decides to track down and kill Shredder’s grandson. Notable for its markedly darker tone and nihilistic ending, it was, nonetheless, a critical and commercial smash. It inspired two more series (The Last Ronin – Lost Years and The Last Ronin II – Re-Evolution in 2023 and ’24), while a novelization was released earlier this year and a video game is in the works. There was also, of course, tons of merchandise.

In 2024, a movie adaptation of The Last Ronin was announced, with Walter Hamada producing, Tyler Burton Smith writing and Ilya Naishuller directing. The movie would have been an R-rated, live-action adaptation, complementing the more family-friendly Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem sequel (which is still set for release next year). By 2025, Paramount had decided to install Neal Moritz, who oversees the studio’s popular Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, to instead reboot TMNT and plans for The Last Ronin film were quietly canceled.

Alex Warren Bio

After years of grinding to be heard, GRAMMY^® Award-nominated multiplatinum Southern California artist Alex Warren launched himself into the stratosphere with “Ordinary.” The 7x-Platinum single made history. Beyond holding #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Global 200 EX US chart for 10 weeks and #1 on the UK Songs Chart for 13 weeks, it concluded the year as “the top-selling song of 2025.” Moreover, it logged a record-breaking 16 weeks at #1 on US Pop Radio, achieving “the longest reign ever on the chart.” Most importantly, it paved the way for his Platinum-certified full-length debut LP, You’ll Be Alright. It bowed in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 and yielded a procession of Hot 100 hits, including “Eternity,” “Bloodline” [feat. Jelly Roll], “On My Mind” [feat. ROSÉ], and “Burning Down” [with Joe Jonas] driving over 11 billion streams across his catalogue to date. Along the way, he lit up the stages of the American Music Awards, MTV VMA, and GRAMMY^® Awards as well as The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Beyond unforgettable performances with Ed Sheeran at Coachella and Jelly Roll at Stagecoach, he headlined sold-out arena tours worldwide. Long before the broken records, scores of awards, and earth-shattering success, Alex was affectionately known to his late father as “Wildchild.” He did anything he could to defy gravity. He scaled the tallest trees possible, or he’d vault through the air across the playground. In 2026, there’s still nothing that can keep him on the ground. He’s quietly beaten the odds, penned life-changing songs, and found a place in the hearts of millions worldwide. Now, the GRAMMY^® Award-nominated multiplatinum artist tells his story on his aptly titled second full-length offering, WILDCHILD [Atlantic Records]. Musically, it bursts through the clouds with sky-high pop hooks, widens the aperture with cinematic soundscapes, and recharges spirits with the raw energy of a songwriter with nothing to prove and only truth in his heart.

Nick Jr. to Premiere 'Deer Squad' Season Four on October 19

2026-10-09T05:58:18.919+01:00

Nick Jr. will premiere the fourth season of Nickelodeon International's hit CG-animated preschool series Deer Squad on Monday, October 19, with new episodes airing weekdays at 6:00 p.m. (ET/PT) on the Nick Jr. channel, continuing its global journey with young audiences.

Nickelodeon

Developed in collaboration with Nickelodeon International and Paramount Television International Studios (PTIS; formally through the VIS Kids branch of ViacomCBS International Studios) in partnership with iQIYI, an innovative market-leading online entertainment service in China, the beloved 3D animated adventure follows four courageous young deer as they navigate thrilling escapades, champion doing good, and safeguard their vibrant home. The heartwarming series seamlessly blends adventure, problem-solving, and humor, instilling valuable lessons of bravery and teamwork in young viewers.

The adventure-rescue show follows four, lovable, enthusiastic and heroic deer friends—Kai, Lola, Bobbi and Rammy—who protect the animals of Central Forest and the humans who inhabit Platinum City, a futuristic metropolis surrounding their woodland home. When there's trouble, the Deer summon their special Planet Powers of Water (Kai), Wood (Lola), Earth (Bobbi) and Sun (Rammy) to solve problems.

Nickelodeon International aired Deer Squad across Asia in August 2020, including iQIYI’s platform in China, and premiered in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K. later in the year. It was the #1 show in the Philippines among kids 2-14, ranked Nick Jr. as the #1 STV channel in Australia among kids 0-4 during Deer Squad premieres and averaged +148% in the UK compared to the timeslot benchmark. The series has been translated into over 30 languages, airing in more than 160 countries and regions, and reaching over 214 million families worldwide. The show marks the first time for Nickelodeon Asia to partner on a Chinese original from its conception phase. All four seasons have since aired across Nickelodeon's international channels. Deer Squad is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

The news is quite surprising, as Nickelodeon in the U.S. started to air Deer Squad season one in 2021, however, the series was removed from schedules before the season could be completed. With season four premiering in October, it seems that Nick Jr. is skipping seasons two and three for the time being.

Nick Jr. to Premiere 'The Marsupilamis' on October 19

2026-10-09T05:30:52.438+01:00

Nick Jr. will premiere The Marsupilamis, a brand new 3D animated series that follows twins Jade and Mica who find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious eggs, on Monday, October 19. The series will air weekday evenings at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

Every day's full of laughter and fun with the Marsupilimis - Hope, Twister, and Punch. Join them with Twins Jade and Mica for adventures and lots of laughs - as long as the Marsups remain unseen!

Ellipse Animation and Belvision announced their partnership with Nickelodeon last year. The partnership saw Nickelodeon launch The Marsupilamis (52 x 11’) worldwide, excluding the U.S.A. and China, earlier this year.

“This fresh take on the iconic character, created over 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin, brings the legendary Marsupilami from the wild Palombian jungle into the heart of the city,” said Nickelodeon, which is part of Paramount, now owned by Skydance Media.

Media-Participations’ animation production companies Ellipse Animation (The Smurfs, The Garfield Show) and Belvision (Asterix: The Mansions of the Gods, Zombillenium) are coproducing the new series based on the classic cartoon character. Mediatoon Distribution and Mediatoon Licensing, also part of the family-owned group, are handling international sales and consumer products, and recently introducing The Marsupilamis respectively to MIPCOM and Brand Licensing Europe (BLE).

The Marsupilamis has also been commissioned by other major broadcasters including M6/Gulli in France, RTBF and VRT in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland and Radio Canada.

“Slated to launch in 2026, the comedic, action-packed new series follows twins Jade and Mica who find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs,” according to a plot description. “Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden – after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.”

Created over 70 years ago by Belgian artist & writer André Franquin, Marsupilami has become one of the most iconic characters in comic-book history, having been adapted numerous times for television, cinema and videogames. With its eight-meter-long tail, unmissable spotted fur and a distinctive “Houba”-based language, this creature has captured the imagination of kids and families across generations.

In the new animated series, the legendary Marsupilamis swap the wild Palombian jungle for an even wilder place: the city. There, twins Jade and Mica find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs. Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden — after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.

The series targets children aged five and up. It is directed by Célestine Jacquel-Plays (Grizzy and the Lemmings), with Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh (The Amazing World of Gumball) as head writers and Guilhem Deckers (Minions 2) as artistic director. Through a comprehensive 3D production pipeline, the creative team has expanded visual and narrative horizons, blending situational comedy and action-packed scenes.

“We are thrilled to finally present The Marsupilamis series, with our best talents bringing a new take on the most iconic IP of our portfolio,” said Caroline Duvochel, Head of Audiovisual & Innovation at Média-Participations and Managing Director of Ellipse Animation. “An ambitious and unique branding strategy unites all entities within the Média-Participations group, placing The Marsupilamis at the forefront of our creative efforts. Collaborating with the top-tier Paramount team is a true delight, enhancing the global reach and impact of our legendary character.”

Layla Lewis, Senior Vice President (SVP), Global Acquisitions & Content Partnerships for Nickelodeon, added, “We are delighted to be partnering with Ellipse and Belvision to introduce The Marsupilamis to our Nickelodeon audiences. This fresh take on a beloved character brings a vibrant mix of humor, heart and adventure that makes it an excellent addition to our international slate.”

‘The Smurfs’ Season 4 Gets First Look as Peyo Productions Reunites With Nickelodeon, RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA and TF1

2026-10-09T05:03:31.262+01:00

Ahead of the beloved characters' 70th birthday in 2028, the fourth season of the 2021 CG hit reboot is currently under production, with a first part planned for fourth quarter 2027

Peyo Productions, the production arm of Peyo Company, home of the beloved Smurfs characters, has confirmed that the fourth season of its 2021 global hit CG-animated series The Smurfs is currently in production, sharing a first-look at a colorful new setting, featuring the iconic legacy characters created by Peyo. The news was first reported by Variety.

The 52 11-minute episodes will be delivered in two parts, the first half at the end of 2027, while the second will air in 2028 as part of a joint anniversary year for the Smurfs characters, celebrating Peyo’s 100th birthday and the Smurfs 70th birthday.

Produced with French animation powerhouse Ellipse Animation, The Smurfs brings back together longtime European co-production broadcasters RTBF, Ketnet, KiKA, and TF1, as well as global partner Nickelodeon. Starting fourth quarter 2027, the partnering European broadcasters will premiere the new season in Germany (KiKA), France (TF1) and Belgium (Ketnet, RTBF), while Nickelodeon will premiere the series in the US before rolling out later in the rest of the world.

In Season 4 of The Smurfs, Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Jokey, and Storm take back the stage as the stakes get higher, the pranks wilder, and the magic more unpredictable.

“Our series has always been a character-driven series,” shares William Renaud, who’s been directing the show since 2021 and returns for this fourth season, along with head writers Peter Saisselin and Amy Serafin. “With more than 100 Smurfs, we have plenty of stories to play with. Going back to our main protagonists in this season also allows us to bring back the legacy of the original comic books, while still tackling modern topics in a comedic way.”

This season also marks a bold leap forward in the Smurfs universe, with the introduction an impactful Smurfies Village, previously introduced at the end of season 3.

A vibrant new setting is filled with surprises and spirited Smurf girls, with Blossom, Storm and Willow becoming recurring characters in these fun-filled Smurfy adventures. “Their personalities aren’t tied to a function, but rather to emotions, or nature,” explains Renaud. “And their village mirrors this colorful, flower-filled state of mind.”

Combined, all these stories and character arcs directly connect with the series’ directing, continued Renaud. Fast-paced when necessary, and slower at other times, allowing the characters to shine while avoiding gratuitous and artificial staging, making children forget there’s a barrier between them and their favorite Smurfs.

“For me,” concludes Renaud, “the Smurfs are human beings like everyone else. They are guided by their emotions and humor, which is why kids love them so much. I mean, what could be more universal? They offer us a mirror to our flaws, like Chaplin in his time. They are not confined to a particular era, but rooted in humanity, and I think that’s the key to their enduring longevity.”

Nele de Wilde, executive producer and CCO Audiovisual & Music at Peyo Productions, agreed. “Truth be told, the Smurfs never cease to amaze us. Even after four seasons, there are still so many stories to be told, thanks to the legacy of Peyo. And while bringing the Smurfs to the screen in the last decades, we learned that the main characters like Papa Smurf, Smurfette, Brainy, Hefty and Baby are still among the most popular characters with kids.”

Instead of creating new characters, the team chose to create new stories with these existing ones. “As the saying goes, you don’t change a winning team.”

The same goes for Peyo Productions’ longtime partners, still thrilled to be part of a success story. “The team truly brought ‘The Smurfs’ up to a totally smurfy new level, enlarging the world of the Smurfs with great stories that are bursting with fun and much-needed laughter in these times,” adds an enthused Sebastian Debertin, head of international content, acquisitions & co-productions at KiKA.

Paola Acosta Orjuela, animation co-production manager at RTBF, also lauded the balance Peyo Productions found with this new season, between staying true to the Smurfs’ identity and bringing something new.

That feeling was shared by Yann Labasque, director of youth programs at TF1 Group. “The Smurfs’ humor, energy and team spirit continue to captivate young audiences, and are a perfect fit for the playful, feel-good spirit of our children’s programming. Get ready for more fun-filled adventures!”

As the teams are heading back once again to Smurf village, De Wilde and Caroline Duvochel, executive producer and CEO at Ellipse Animation (which has worked for nearly 10 years on the series), underline together the great artists behind this one-of-a-kind European show.

“Most of the artists who worked with us are coming back to the project because they love playing with the Smurfs so much,” explained De Wilde. “And they keep sharing how fun it is to work on this series! For most, it’s a childhood dream. Also, a big shout out to our two in-house art directors, Luc Parthoens and Tom Cosijn, who make sure we stay true to the brand’s DNA and keep the top notch quality we have aimed for since the beginning.”

Smurfs fan around the world are in for many blue treats in the upcoming months. During the big anniversary coming in 2028 (70 years of Smurfs, 100 years of Peyo), Part 2 of Season 4 will be released, and Peyo Productions is working on more special content for this celebration year, which it will present at Mipcom.
