Born in Evanston, Illinois, Marie was raised in the Chicago area. After graduating high school, Marie went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University where she also met her future husband, Robert. The couple married in 1951. Following Robert’s discharge from the Army several years later, they moved all around the country and raised three children together, spending time in Indiana, Illinois, California, Michigan, Connecticut and New York. Robert and Marie found a home though, when they settled in Kill Devil Hills on the Outer Banks of North Carolina in 1986.

Marie was a homemaker who loved to read as well as sew, knit and crochet. She loved making many of her own clothes as well as sweaters for her family. Marie found a new passion when she took up kayaking in North Carolina which she could do right from her backyard. Marie and Robert loved having a dog and always had a “Sheltie” for companionship.

Marie was the beloved wife of the late Robert Landon. She was the loving mother of Stephen Landon of Bracey, Virginia, Barbara Landon of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jeffrey Landon and his wife Susan of Tewksbury. She was also predeceased by her brother, Roger Schierhorn. All services were privately held. Arrangements were under the direction of the Nichols Funeral Home.
