After trading away quarterback Donovan McNabb to their division rivals in Washington last week, it seemed as though Philadelphia would be content to stick with Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick next season, and possibly signing a veteran or drafting a late round prospect to fill out the depth chart.

But that doesn’t appear to be the case, as the Eagles are actively looking for a trading partner to unload Vick prior to the draft on April 22nd, and while they may find the market for Vick’s services to be less than they would prefer, a trade involving Vick is likely at this point, according to Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News.

Domowitch believes the Philadelphia head coach Andy Reid isn’t convinced that Vick could consistently run the offense if Kolb were to get injured, and as such, signing a veteran to back up Kolb next season is the expected course of action for the Eagles once things are all said and done.

The most likely candidate to fill that role is former Rams quarterback Marc Bulger, who has been adamant in his desire to start someplace next season, but will undoubtedly come around on that very soon as the market for his services dries up.

As for Vick, teams that will likely be interested include the Bills and the Raiders, although Buffalo would seem to be the better fit given the style of offense employed by new head coach Chan Gailey.

There’s been a bevy of discussion around the league concerning Redskins defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, and his reported refusal to adjust to the 3-4 defense being put into play in Washington this off-season. While nothing substantial has come as of yet, the possibility still remains that Haynesworth could find himself playing in a new locale next fall, and the most likely suspect to acquire him is not a surprise.

According to ESPN’s Bill Williamson, the best fit for such a trade would be the Oakland Raiders, who have a history of going after big name players, regardless of contractual issues, and have a definite need for a playmaking defensive tackle, which Haynesworth has shown himself to be in recent years.

All of this is speculation for the most part, but educated guesses are better than nothing at this point in the year, and while a deal could theoretically be struck later on in the summer, the best time for the Redskins to make a move with Haynesworth would be prior to or during the draft, when draft picks are at a premium.

Oakland would almost certainly have to part with their second round selection (#39 overall) to get Haynesworth into the fold, but aside from that, there’s not much standing in the way of owner Al Davis, who has a propensity for spending a fortune on players with name recognition around the league. And with Haynesworth having proven his ability in a similar style of defense during his tenure in Tennessee, moving out West to Oakland wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing for him.

As always, we’ll keep you posted if anything new develops.

Wed @ 3:55 pm – Brown’s new contract is worth approximately $6 million, according to NFL.com’s Jason LaCanfora.

11:45 am – Just four days into his new found free agent status, former Bears defensive end Alex Brown has two definite suitors for his services lined up in New Orleans and Tampa Bay, according to multiple sources.

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported earlier this week that Brown was scheduled to stop off in New Orleans yesterday to visit with the Saints, and while he could sign there without leaving, it seems as though Brown will move on to Tampa Bay later on this week before making a decision. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown will work out with the Buccaneers tomorrow.

It would seem as though Brown would prefer playing for the Bucs, given the choice, as he played collegiate football at the University of Florida and grew up reasonably close by in Jasper, Florida, but inevitably it will come down to who is willing to pay the most money to get him.

We usually do our best to stay away from the gossip side of the league, especially when it involves former NFL players, but in this case we simply can’t ignore the disgusting decision by former New York Giants running back Tiki Barber to leave his wife of 11 years for a 23 year old intern.

Barber’s wife, Ginny, is eight months pregnant with twins, and reportedly found out about his philandering ways last year. The revelation comes as a shock to many within Barber’s circle and outside of it, given the public statements he made in the past deriding his father’s decision to leave his mother early in his childhood.

The other woman in the picture is Traci Lynn Johnson, a former NBC intern who has been photographed numerous times with Barber in recent weeks. The two have not publicly announced their relationship, but Barber has made his split with his wife official with a short statement yesterday.

“After 11 years of marriage, Ginny and I have decided to separate. This decision was a painful one, but we are moving forward amicably and will continue to work together to raise our children with the love and dedication they have always known.”

– Former Giants running back, Tiki Barber

Obviously, Barber is capable of making his own decisions in life, and all the details surrounding the disintegration of his marriage are not in the public domain. But the fact still remains that he is choosing to leave his wife at a very poor time, given her advanced state of pregnancy, and will likely suffer a fairly significant PR hit as a result in the future.

Teams likely to be interested in acquiring Sharper include Chicago, Kansas City, Seattle, and Miami.

Adams would be a fairly solid fit for Washington at right tackle if the Redskins can upgrade the left side of their line via the draft later this month. Washington currently owns the #4 overall selection and has expressed significant interest in Oklahoma State tackle Russell Okung.

It finally happened.

In a shocker that surely has Redskins fans feeling a good aura over their team for the first time in the past two years, Washington has acquired quarterback Donovan McNabb from their division rivals in Philadelphia, in exchange for the 37th overall pick this year, and a conditional 2011 fourth round pick that could potentially be a third round pick.

This almost certainly spells the end of Jason Campbell’s tenure as a starter, and he will begin to receive serious attention on the trading block in the near future.

The price tag for Campbell will likely be a third or fourth rounder, considering the difference between himself and McNabb.

The deal is for one year and can be worth as much as $3.1 million with incentives.

After the emergence of Rashard Mendenhall, Parker clearly lost his grip on the staring role in Pittsburgh. According to agent Douglas Hendrickson, the Redskins have let him know that the running back competition is wide open in Washington.

Regardless, the Redskins now have a nice three headed rushing attack they can employ along with Clinton Portis, and fellow free agent import Larry Johnson. All three have proven track records as feature backs

A little over two weeks ago, the Eagles struck an unexpected trade with Seattle in which defensive ends and a Draft pick were swapped. However, another deal could soon becoming between Philadelphia and the Seahawks, except this time involving an offensive player. With the release of Shawn Andrews a little while ago and a remaining need for a bit more depth on the o-line, the Birds are looking into a potential acquisition that would bring veteran guard Rob Sims to the team. The 4-year blocker was recently mentioned as being on the trading block, and the Eagles and Lions are among a small group of clubs who have shown interest in him.

At 6-foot-3 and 312 pounds, he possesses quality size for an offensive lineman, and is one of the more agile players at his position. Selected in the 4th-round of the 2006 NFL Draft out of Ohio State University, Sims started 14 games this past season after missing nearly all of the 2008 campaign because of a shoulder injury. Something that’s looked upon as a large positive note in his career is the fact that Sims played in a combined 30 games from 2006 to ‘07 and helped the Seahawks maintain an impressive rushing attack as well as solid pass protection. He had restricted free agent status in this year’s signing period, but agreed to the 1-year tender contract he was offered in hopes that a trade would form in the near future.

The previous removal of Shawn Andrews from the roster isn’t likely to be the only reason the Eagles are looking into Sims. Their starting center Jamaal Jackson is not expected to be ready to take the field until the preseason because of an ACL tear sustained late in ‘09, and there seems to be some reliability concerns at the right guard spot, which entertained a number of players last season because of the lack of production from Stacy Andrews and inconsistent performances by Max Jean-Gilles.

As for the Lions, Detroit is rumored to simply have interest in Sims because they’d like more solid pass blockers to protect young QB Matthew Stafford. Trading for a guy like Rob Sims would likely eliminate the need for the Lions to select a lineman very early in the draft.

NFL Network’s inside reporter Jason La Canfora reported in a recent online article that Sims “very likely will be dealt before this month’s draft” and that the teams interested in him–including the Eagles–are “strongly in the mix”. He cited league sources for part of the information, and is typically a reliable producer of reports and rumors of this magnitude. Whether the Eagles or Lions will actually display their wishes to obtain Rob Sims by trading for him is yet to be seen, as none of their front office members or staff members has commented on the situation.

Starting safety Kenny Phillips may take awhile to recover from a knee condion, Grant would give them a more then capable insurance policy.

Grant just came off a solid three year stint with the Seattle Seahawks, where he started all 48 games, notching 234 tackles, 8 INT’s, and overall his three career best tackle figures.

The Seahawks deemed him expendable amidst their needed rebuilding movement with his $11 million price tag over the next two seasons.
