It has been a while since I wrote my last blog entry. I have been so busy with work and preparing for No. 2.

It is just another 2 months before my due date and as I recall the past few months of pregnancy, I realised that I was not as “excited” as I was with my no. 1. I suppose it is natural given that the experiences are pretty similar to the first. However as the day is approaching, I begin to think more about what I need to do to get ready and prepare. As no. 2 is a boy (no. 1 is a girl), there will definitely be differences.

I’ll be happy to hear and learn form you if you have personal experiences to share about your no. 2.

Any special things to take note?

Successful business people often say that in order to be successful in running your own business, you need to be entrepreneurial.

What do we understand about the being entrepreneurial? Is it about having that acute business instinct that this product or this idea will surely sell? Or is it that persevering spirit to keep going when the going gets tough?

Well… after reading several books and taking lessons on entrepreneurship, my personal take is that being entrepreneurial is about 3 things.

Be Bold

We need that fearless attitude to do business. Fearless does not mean reckless. It means not bowing down to the obstacles before you and try all means to overcome and achieve your goals.

Be Prepared to Fail

There aren’t many successful businessmen who have not failed before. In fact, many will be able to share their many failures. Often, they also share that their failures make them smarter and more experienced.

Be Ready to Learn

In this global world, business people cannot afford to stay status quo. We need to keep learning and equipping ourselves in areas that are critical in running a business. For instance, how to read financial statements, how to build a team, how to build systems to run businesses etc.

Step 1

Keep on one credit card in your purse - the one with the lowest interest. Cut up the rest. This will help you to manage, track, and control your spending with just one card available. Even if you like to max out your credit limit, at least you contain the damage to just one card.

Step 2

If you tend to use your credit card when you run out of cash, train yourself to use debit card instead. This way you avoid running up balances and there’s no bill to pay at the end of the month. In addition, it makes you think twice taking money out from the bank directly.

Step 3

Don’t miss those payment deadlines. Late charges are in the range of USD20. If you have three cards and miss deadlines twice a year, you will chalk up USD120 of late charges a year!

Step 4

Lower the interest rate of your card. Call up your credit card company and tell them you want to cancel your card because a competitor has offered you a lower interest rate and you want to transfer your balance to the new card. Usually they will offer you a lower rate to keep you as a customer.

Step 5

Watch those annual fees. I will call to cancel my credit card once the promotion of waiver of annual fees is over. Often the credit card company will waive the annual fee to keep you as customer. If not, you can always apply another that gives waiver of annual fees.

In order to prepare my baby for her maiden swim, I began to encourage her to “play with water” during her bath.

Often, I would trickle water on her head so that the water flowed down her face. This is to allow her to get used to water on her face so as to build confidence and help her overcome fear (if any) of water slowly.

I would judge her response to water and if she exhibited strong reaction at first, I would slow down the learning process.

After doing this for about 2 weeks, my baby was quite comfortable during her maiden swim. In fact, she accidentally swollowed some water during her swim but she took it very well. Coughed out the water and went on to play with the water…

If you are thinking of trying the method, please do it slowly at first. Judge your child’s reaction and pace the learning process. Happy swimming!

As my baby grows, I became consious of the fact that her awareness quotient is increasing by the day.

Not too long ago, she was very focused during breastfeeding. Nothing could distract her from the relentless consumption of the very essence that keeps her alive. Nowadays, she will play with my fingers and hair as she quietly suckle away. Several times, her eyes would lock with mine and I was sure I caught a twinkle of mischief once or twice.

To me, this is the joy of motherhood. To be able to connect with your child in those special moments and witness your child transform day by day. One day, she was such a fragile little being, the next she could wrestle with you as she didn’t get what she wanted… LIFE IS SIMPLY AMAZING!

Giving water to baby less than 6 months of age is not only unnecessary but can even be dangerous. Both breastmilk and formula milk contain more than 80% water so baby receives plenty of water in this form.

Why it is dangerous then? Since water is “empty calories” and with baby’s stomach being so small, filling up with water limits the space available for milk.

There is also a risk of water intoxification. This occurs when too much water is given to a baby and causes an imbalance of the body’s natural salts. This condition can cause fits, brain damage, coma and even death.

Therefore, if you need to give baby some water, limit it to 1-2 ounces and give it only after his milk feed. Remember to make sure it is always cooled down boiled water!!

Infants have a natural diving reflex that causes them to hold their breath for a short while when they are submerged in water so it is possible to bring your baby swimming by 3-6 months old.

However you have to take note of some dangers that may be present.

Your baby may be infected if he swallows some water. However most pools are well-filtered and chlorinated so the risk is not high. On the other hand, chlorine can also irritate sensitive baby skin hence remember to give your baby a thorough rinse immediately swimming.

Do bear in mind that the water should not be too cold so always test the water before putting him i.

Excessive sun exposure can also harm baby so slap on sunblock. Always avoid swimming when the sun is too strong.

Lastly but most importantly, if your baby is left unattended, for even on second, there is a risk of drowning. So keep your eye on your baby at all times!!!
