The FOYT program annually honors five outstanding people between 18 and 41 years of age who &#8220;exemplify the best attributes of the nation’s young people.&#8221;

<p style="text-align: left;">Each honoree is awarded a trophy, a certificate of achievement and a commemorative FOYT lapel pin. The awards ceremony dramatizes each winner&#8217;s career in a narrative form and provides a stage for the honorees to challenge and inspire America&#8217;s youth. Attendees will include the members of the Texas Junior Chamber, Five Outstanding Young Texans, their family and friends, elite and civic officials, including special guest, the Honorable Texas Secretary of State, Esperanza “Hope” Andrade.</p>

The United States Junior Chamber has since adopted it and is now recognized as a national award, Ten Outstanding Young Americans (TOYA). The Five Outstanding Young Texans (FOYT) also have the opportunity to be named as a TOYA Honoree. Of the more than 800 young Americans honored over the past 83 years, many were recognized before the achievements for which they are now best known. Past TOYA Honorees include: Former U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy, Gerald R. Ford, George H. W. Bush and William J. “Bill” Clinton. Ann Bancroft, Elvis Presley and Gale Sayers are also among past TOYA Honorees. Past FOYT Honorees include: Howard E. Butts, Joel Osteen, Dan Rather, Sam Wyly and Jeana Yeager.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;"><strong><span style="font-family: mceinline;">2010 FIVE OUTSTANDING YOUNG TEXANS</span></strong></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>ALBERTO P. CARDENAS, JR</strong> serves as Counsel in the Houston-based global law firm of Vinson &amp; Elkins, LLP and focuses his practice on legislative matters at a state and federal level. His public policy efforts consist of serving as counsel to business interests affected by America’s immigration laws and corporate and academic clientele seeking resolution on statutory and regulatory issues. During the 109th and 110th Congress, Mr. Cardenas served as general counsel to the senior United States Senator from Texas, the Honorable Kay Bailey Hutchison, advising her on judicial appointments, legal affairs, and legislative matters. Prior to joining Senator Hutchison’s senior staff, Mr. Cardenas was employed by the Texas Tech University System as the Special Assistant to the Chancellor and Director of Federal Relations. In his capacity with Texas Tech, Mr. Cardenas coordinated federal research initiatives and served as a liaison with members of Congress, executive agencies, respective campus administrators, and the System&#8217;s Board of Regents. As a result of his work, Mr. Cardenas has been recognized as one of Five Outstanding Young Houstonians in 2009 and by Hispanic Business Magazine as one of the Top 100 most influential Hispanics in the United States.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>SEAN D. CARTER-HAMMERLE, CFRE</strong> is a diehard LSU alumnus; Mr. Carter-Hammerle is truly committed to his professional work, devoting time to mentoring new development professionals as well as speaking across the country and internationally on various aspects of fundraising. He is one of 62 Certified Fundraising Professionals (CFRE) in Houston and is a Subject Matter Expert for CFRE International, serving as a certification exam question writer. He is the External Vice President for Houston Board of Directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) and serves on the AFP International Board representing over 30,000 members worldwide. Mr. Carter-Hammerle has served on numerous non-profit boards and has chaired countless charity events. A Leadership Houston graduate (Class XIX), he chaired the Class XXVII program, is currently the Chair-Elect of the Board and will lead the organization in its 30th anniversary year. Mr. Carter-Hammerle is a past President of the Greater Houston GLBT Chamber of Commerce and was the youngest president of the Houston GLBT Political Caucus during its 25th anniversary. He was inducted into the Houston GLBT Hall of Fame in 2003, awarded 2009 Five Outstanding Young Houstonian, was honored as a 2009 Houston Texans Hometown Hero and was named one of the 2010 “40 Under 40” by the Houston Business Journal.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>DR. JAMES D. FOWLER</strong> moved to Rowlett five years ago to establish his practice. Dr. Fowler has been involved in many areas of the community and is a part of the planning process for the city’s community events, dedicates his time toward helping local non-profit organizations, and contributes financially to their efforts to improve the community. Dr. Fowler brings excitement, enthusiasm, and fresh ideas for projects through the City Special Event Planning Committee. As a medical practitioner, he strives to educate his patients on healthy lifestyle changes, weight management, and proper Chiropractic health.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>MARK A. MELTON</strong> is the very definition of a self-made man. He is currently an associate at the law firm Hunton &amp; Williams LLP, where he focuses on federal income tax issues related to both domestic and international corporate transactions. His expertise includes a broad range of tax matters, including private equity and hedge funds, mergers and acquisitions, cross-border investments and tax-exempt entities. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Cox School of Business at SMU where he teaches in the graduate tax program, and is also a Certified Public Accountant.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>MICHAEL H. MORATH</strong> is the President for Minute Menu Systems. He oversees day-to-day operations at the company, which provides a comprehensive management system for childcare agencies that administer the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), a federal initiative that provides free and reduced-price meals to disadvantaged children. Under Mr. Morath’s leadership, the company has become a key force in CACFP. Its technology helps serve 900,000 children each day in the United States, while significantly reducing the program’s administrative costs.</p>

<p>TULSA, OKLAHOMA – The United States Junior Chamber (Jaycees) is pleased to announce the formation of a special partnership with “Riley’s Toys” in a nationwide effort.</p>
<p><a title="Riley's Toys Foundation" href="http://rileystoys.org" target="_blank">Riley’s Toys Foundation</a> is founded on an idea from then four-year-old Riley Hebbard. In February 2009 she watched a news show that featured children in an African school that had no toys. Riley could not believe that these children had only ‘sticks and dirt’ to play with and decided to send her toys to them. She enlisted her preschool friends to do the same thing. She and her parents then added 8 collection sites at businesses they visit regularly in central PA.</p>
<p>The chapters of <a title="US Jaycees" href="http://www.usjaycees.org/" target="_blank">The U.S. Jaycees</a> organization will use a similar collection model. They will set up collection sites within their communities accepting new and like-new toy donations that are non-violent and not battery operated. These toys will be sent to Riley’s Toys Foundation, who has partnered with World Vision for toy distribution in Africa.</p>
<p>“The Jaycees will help me get a toy to every kid in Africa and that would be awesome” says Riley Hebbard, 5 years old. The U.S. Jaycees will officially launch this partnership at their annual conference beginning September 24, 2009 in Orlando, Florida.</p>
<p>Riley’s Toys Foundation will make available a ‘How-To’ Kit for The U.S. Jaycees to help the project run smoothly in communities across the country. Flyers, posters, frequently asked questions, and media releases will be available. The Foundation will include all donation points on its website <a title="Riley's Toys Foundation" href="http://www.rileystoys.org/" target="_blank">www.rileystoys.org</a> so donors simply click on their state on a national map and all the collection sites will appear.</p>
<p>“A project of this nature truly takes a community to become reality, and we couldn’t have gotten this far without our partners” says Rhonda Hebbard, Riley’s mom. “World Vision is our logistics partner; they get the toys into the hands of African children while our website and social media networking component is powered by <a title="netSpray.com" href="http://www.netspray.com" target="_blank">netSpray.com</a>. Without strong partnerships like this and the support of The U.S. Jaycees, a project of this scale would not succeed.”</p>
