This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get involved in an exciting artistic design, renovation & restoration project in an amazing setting in the South of France. The Art Farm’s physical location is made up of two beautiful French farmhouses being restored using creative methods, natural materials and fun, motivated, fast paced work ethics. Become part of our team to create sculptural forms and restore these beautiful buildings using techniques with cob, lime, straw, local timbers, and recycled materials.

There will be two main projects, our cave bar and 6 artistic holiday suites as well as many side projects such as innovative rocket stoves, cob ovens, earthen floors, lime pointed stone walls, artistic sculptural walls, eco-furniture and antique restorations.

The opportunity is open to builders from all over the world and is set to be a dynamic team.

In a time when eco-building is becoming the main stream this opportunity will give you a unique head start in the industry, an experience that some of the best builders and designers may never get. The amazing location, the inspiring team and innovative methods learnt will be like nothing else.

After one month you will have the experience and confidence to take on a more senior roll in the industry, obtain lead building roles, experiment with new building techniques, teach workshops, manage projects or start your own. You will receive photographs of work completed during your stay, a letter of recommendation and a certificate of completion for your resume.

Accommodation – During the one month you will have the opportunity to stay onsite at the Art Farm in our dorm room accommodation. You will also be able to get involved in any other Art Farm projects or celebrations that are happening, with regular music and art session and parties it will be an exciting time to join us.

We are looking for candidates for this positions from all walks of life and with a variety of experience. We see potential in everyone and enjoy inspiring that spark in them to shine.

High motivation, creativity and a fun positive attitude are key.

Clay plasters are a great choice for sustainable building because they are nontoxic and have very low embodied-energy. They are particularly well suited to straw bale buildings because they manage moisture well and are vapor-permeable, allowing the bales to “breathe.”

http://www.earthenhand.com

Tuition: $1800 USD

Let’s build a schoolroom with the Dogon people of Terelli, Mali.

The Dogon will share with us their languages, music, cuisine, farming, and building techniques. We will build alongside the Dogon villagers to complete a one-room schoolhouse. A 5 x 5 meter earthen dome, its construction will be our main activity. Students will learn dome design methods while gaining skills in stone, rammed earth bags, and cob. We will also learn about traditional Dogon building techniques by assisting several local builders with their work. Tour the country by foot and bus to see Dogon Permaculture in action. Visit spectacular ruins of old Dogon towns comparable to Mesa Verde and Chaco Canyon. Experience the daily life of the people of Terelli, an off-grid traditional village. Each day will be packed with learning, work, wholesome food, fantastic scenery, and great company. We will be surrounded by learning opportunities throughout our stay. The workshop will be a muti-lingual event with translation between French, English, and Dogon.
