Rhythm & Hues Files For Bankruptcy

Rhythm & Hues, the VFX studio behind a lot of the digital effects in Disney/Walden’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has filed for bankruptcy, despite winning the Academy Award for their work in Life of Pi. Some controversy has arisen from their acceptance speech, which was was cut short just as Bill Westenhofer began talking about the company’s “severe financial difficulties.” Read the full story. Walden’s Narnia Films Coming to Hallmark Channel

Beginning on March 15, Walden Family Theater will start airing every Friday night on the Hallmark Channel. Walden president Micheal Flaherty said:

“Walden Family Theater is a great step forward for us to continue the Walden mission. These great films we are presenting on The Hallmark Channel and/or making with ARC reinforces our vision to provide families a chance to recapture imagination and rekindle curiosity through entertainment. These films will stand side by side with some of our proudest features like our Narnia movies, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, Amazing Grace, and Journey to the Center Of The Earth.”

Narnians at the Oscars

Howard Berger (Hitchcock) and Tami Lane (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) are both nominated for Makeup & Hairstyling Oscars this year. Berger and Lane won the Oscar in 2006 for their work in Disney/Walden’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The 85th Annual Academy Awards start tonight at 7:00pm EST.
UPDATE: The Oscar went to Les Misérables.

Peter Dinklage Cast in Upcoming ‘X-Men’ Film

Director Bryan Singer tweeted the news today that Peter Dinklage (Trumpkin) has been cast in X-Men: Days of Future Past, a sequel to X-Men: First Class (2011). His role has not been announced. He joins James McAvoy (Tumnus), who will reprise his role as a young Professor Xavier. Patrick Stewart (who reads the audio recording of “The Last Battle”) will also appear. Read the full story.

UPDATE: Variety is reporting that Dinklage will play the film’s main villain!

TORN Talks to Kiran Shah (Ginarrbrik)

TheOneRing.net recently had a conversation via Skype with Kiran Shah, who played Ginarrbrik in Disney/Walden’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. He talks about being cast as the White Witch’s right-hand dwarf, and working with Tilda Swinton. More recently, Shah appeared in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey as a scale double for Bilbo, and is also credited as playing the Goblin Scribe. Bille Brown Passes Away

Actor Bille Brown, who played Coriakin in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) has passed away at the age of 61. He had been battling cancer for twelve months. James McAvoy Would Like to Play Younger Gandalf

Christopher Tolkien has made it clear he would never sell the film rights to ‘The Silmarillion.’ But that has not stopped James McAvoy (Tumnus) from dreaming. The actor says that if a film adaptation was ever made, he would love to play a younger Gandalf. Read the story here. McAvoy played a young Professor Xavier in X-Men: First Class (2011).

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey had a record-smashing opening weekend, grossing $84.78M in the United States. If you thought Balin sounded familiar, that is because he is played by Ken Stott, the voice of Trufflehunter in Prince Caspian (2008). And his makeup was applied by Tami Lane, who won an Oscar for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005). See Balin at the end of this clip.
