Walden Media to Make Berenstain Bears Movie

One of the most beloved children’s book series of all time, The Berenstain Bears, will be made into a movie by Walden Media. USA Today reports that Shawn Levy, director of the Night at the Museum movies, has signed on to produce a feature film based on The Berenstain Bears books, a comedy he says will be a mix of live-action and computer animation. Ben Barnes Cast in ‘I Was Bono’s Doppleganger’

From IFTN.ie: Ben Barnes has been announced to star in ‘I Was Bono’s Doppelganger.’ Barnes will replace fellow British actor Charlie Cox (Stardust) who was originally cast. The production will star Barnes alongside previously announced Irish actor Robert Sheehan (Cherrybomb, Summer of the Flying Saucer). The duo will play brothers Neil and Ivan McCormick who formed a band in Dublin in the late 70s – but found themselves constantly compared to their classmates’ band, namely U2. Michael Apted, one of the world’s most respected film directors, will offer a rare insight into how filmmakers contribute to meaningful learning experiences and bring social justice issues to the fore. Apted spent two months with gorillas in the wild in Rwanda while filming Gorillas in the Mist in 1988. Animals on Show draws from a wide variety of films and books including King Kong and Gorillas in the Mist, all of which explore and consider our relationship with wild and captive animals. I found this highly amusing: Even though post-production is still months away, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (yes, the Walden version) can already be reserved to rent from NetFlix. So, if you are thinking about renting a movie in about a year and a half, why not plan ahead and reserve The Voyage of the Dawn Treader? Thanks to ‘thebarefootprincess’ for the find.

Howard Berger Turned Down ‘Wild Things’

Howard Berger has said that the classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, was one of the things that inspired him to work in makeup effects. His mother read the book to him every night when he was young, and he still has a life-size “wild thing” in his office. But when Warner Bros. approached him in 2006 about designing creatures for their film adaptation, he turned it down, saying “The direction that they were taking in the movie was certainly not the direction that I would have taken. I didn’t want to get myself in it. I had a sinking feeling about it.” The film opened last weekend, grossing $32.7m in its first three days (domestically). Watch a clip.

Narnian Men Make Empire’s ‘100 Sexiest’ List

EmpireOnline has listed the 100 Sexiest Movie Stars of all time on their website. Two of Narnia’s leading men have made that list: Ben Barnes coming in at #38 (here) and James McAvoy at #9 (here).
