Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Trailer Surpasses Barbie, Mario, and Wonka With 481 Million Views

Impending Doom — Tue, 20 Oct 2026 23:25:11 +0000

The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew amassed 481 million views in its first seven days, according to Deadline via WaveMetrix, making it one of the most-watched trailers ever.

The report notes that the seven-day total surpasses the view counts for Gerwig’s Barbie (240 million), Wonka (237.2 million) and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (281.6 million). Project Hail Mary also hit 400 million views in its first week.

The trailer “trended at No. 1 on X and is still the No. 1 trending movie trailer on YouTube and NarniaFilm.com, which briefly crashed due to the influx of visits.

According to polling conducted across NarniaWeb’s social media, which drew more than 4,000 responses, 46% of respondents said the trailer left them feeling more optimistic about the film, while 35% felt less optimistic. Asked about Gerwig’s creative direction, 40% expressed mixed reactions, 32% said they disliked it, and 28% said they liked it.

Despite these mixed reactions, 70% of respondents said they would definitely or probably see the film in theatres next February.

The renewed attention is also benefiting C. S. Lewis’s original novel. The Magician’s Nephew is currently ranked No. 3 in the Children’s Classics category of Amazon’s Kindle Store, with The Horse and His Boy at No. 10 and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at No. 17.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew arrives in theatres worldwide on February 10, 2027.

Does the trailer’s view count surprise you? How many times have you watched it? Let us know in the comments!

Narnia Trailer Breakdown: 17 Details You Might Have Missed

Icarus — Mon, 19 Oct 2026 19:15:16 +0000

The first trailer for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew hit the internet last week, becoming one of the most watched trailers in Netflix’s history.

Below is a breakdown of some of the main trailer highlights as well as a few things you may have missed. Alternatively, click here to see Greta Gerwig’s own breakdown commentary on the trailer herself!

Whose Hands?

The trailer opens with Ciaran Hinds (all but confirmed now to be The Professor) narrating “Sometimes one story is the beginning of all the others.” This appears to be a paraphrasing of the title from the final chapter of the book: “The End of This Story and the Beginning of All the Others”

In the opening shot, we see a pair of hands loosening a ratchet strap which is keeping a dust sheet in place over the Wardrobe. Most agree that the hands appear too young to belong to the 73-year-old Ciaran Hinds. Perhaps this is a scene depicting a slightly younger professor? Or perhaps even one of the Pevensies much later on?

The Wardrobe

The appearance of the Wardrobe in the opening scenes of the trailer proved to be a welcome surprise for fans, with the design feeling nostalgic of previous adaptations, whilst also establishing its own unique look. It also appears closer to C.S. Lewis’ wardrobe which is displayed at the Wade Center at Wheaton College.

The inclusion of a dust sheet is reminiscent of Walden Media’s 2005 adaptation, as is the wardrobe’s location within a Tudor-esque loft space with exposed beams. By contrast, the circular pattern on the Wardrobe doors is potentially similar to the twin circle design featured on the BBC TV Series’ wardrobe, though clearly all three designs are drawing a heavy influence from CS Lewis’ own wardrobe.

The main carving on the wardrobe shows a tree, likely intended to reflect the Wardrobe’s origins stemming from the Tree of Life in Narnia. Some eagle-eyed Narnia fans have also speculated that the smaller side panel carvings potentially show the gifts from The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, although it is unclear why Digory would have advanced knowledge of this in order to carve it.

Another curious detail is that in the opening shot, the wardrobe door does not appear to have a handle, and then in the next shot we see that a key has been inserted into the door to unlock it.

The Mysterious Uncle Andrew

Polly’s first line in the trailer – “Is Mr Ketterley really mad?” – is lifted directly from the opening chapter of the book:

“Is Mr. Ketterley really mad?”
“Well either he’s mad,” said Digory, “or there’s some other mystery. He has a study on the top floor and Aunt Letty says I must never go up there.
– Chapter 1: The Wrong Door

Later on in the trailer, Digory says he isn’t sure if he believes in magic. In the book, Digory tells Uncle Andrew:

“I didn’t believe in Magic till today. I see now it’s real. Well if it is, I suppose all the old fairy tales are more or less true.”
– Chapter 2: Digory and His Uncle

The book is set in 1900, but this film adaptation is placed 55 years later. In several shots in this trailer, we see children playing in bombed houses following World War II.

A Backstory for Frank?

Next up, we see Digory standing with Strawberry outside a shop whose sign indicates that it is selling “Rag and Metal”. We have previously heard reports from Empire Magazine that Frank’s profession in the movie has been changed from a Cabby to that of a Rag-and-Bone man; someone who would go around with a horse-and-cart collecting scrap for salvage.

Whilst it is possible that Frank is merely collecting metal on behalf of the store, the signs on the shop front and above the door both read “F. Marshall”, which could possibly indicate that this is his shop, and that he has been given a surname for the movie.

Fun Fact – Frank Marshall was one of the producers on the ill-fated mid-1990s Narnia adpatation which was set to be directed by John Boorman (Excalibur) but never came to pass.

Touching the Rings

Upon entering Uncle Andrew’s study, we see Polly excitedly grab one of the yellow rings from the box. It seems that merely touching the rings does not cause one to instantly teleport, unlike the book:

Polly’s hand went out to touch one of the rings. And immediately, without a flash or a noise or a warning of any sort, there was no Polly. Digory and his Uncle were alone in the room.
– Chapter 1: The Wrong Door

Whether the box containing the rings is supposed to be the same one that NarniaWeb received as a promotional gift item to accompany Greta Gerwig’s letter remains unclear, though the design does appear to be significantly different.

Travel Between Worlds

In order to activate the rings in this version, Digory needs to physically put it on his finger. However, even that does not appear to result in instant teleportation, but rather initiates a more prolonged transition sequence. perhaps somewhat reminiscent of Walden Media’s Prince Caspian, in which the room around him appears to disintegrate.

Note the water slowly beginning to form around Digory’s feet, possibly as a transitional element to the wood between the worlds.

Uncle Andrew and his study vanished instantly. Then, for a moment, everything became muddled. The next thing Digory knew was that there was a soft green light coming down on him from above, and darkness below. He didn’t seem to be standing on anything, or sitting, or lying. Nothing appeared to be touching him. “I believe I’m in water,” said Digory. “Or under water.” This frightened him for a second, but almost at once he could feel that he was rushing upward.
– Chapter 3: The Wood Between the Worlds

The Wood Between The Worlds

In the overhead shot of Polly and Digory lying on the grass of the Wood Between The Worlds, we can just about see a handful of pools in the background, though the overall configuration of the Woods is markedly different from the book:

The trees grew close together and were so leafy that he could get no glimpse of the sky. All the light was green light that came through the leaves: but there must have been a very strong sun overhead, for this green daylight was bright and warm. It was the quietest wood you could possibly imagine. There were no birds, no insects, no animals, and no wind. You could almost feel the trees growing. The pool he had just got out of was not the only pool. There were dozens of others—a pool every few yards as far as his eyes could reach.
– Chapter 3: The Wood Between the Worlds

The Garden?

We then see a shot of Digory pushing open two heavy doors, possibly to the garden from which he picks the silver apple. Whilst the editing of the trailer would seem to suggest that these are the doors to Charn, the absence of Polly from this shot (who is later present when the world of Charn forms around them) suggests these are two different scenes have been spliced together.

Just before the image fades to black, we catch a glimpse of a tree behind the doors:

Contrast adjusted

The circular design on the doors also feels similar to the one seen on the Wardrobe earlier on. Perhaps this repeated circular design is intended to signify portals, and draw out a a thematic parallel to the rings themselves?

The White Witch and the Apple Tree

Later on in the trailer we see a shot of Jadis walking through the Garden, now fully transformed into the White Witch and surrounded by an icy blue aura. It appears her hair has been turned white. The tree on the left appears to contain at least two silver apples. These clues suggest this may be the emotional moment where Jadis tempts Digory to keep the apple for himself.

Digory guessed at once that she must have climbed in over the wall. And he began to see that there might be some sense in that last line about getting your heart’s desire and getting despair along with it. For the Witch looked stronger and prouder than ever, and even, in a way, triumphant; but her face was deadly white, white as salt.
– Chapter 13: An Unexpected Meeting

Jadis’ Coronation?

As the children enter the throne room in Charn, we see that there are statues frozen (turned to stone?) apparently in the middle of a party; as described by the recent article in Empire Magazine. Jadis however appears to be frozen in the middle of getting crowned, not that the frozen revelers around her appear to be paying much reverence to this moment.

In the book, the figures appear lifelike at a glance and are seated on thrones, and there is no indication that any of them (except Jadis) were actual people:

“I had already cast strong spells on the hall where the images of my ancestors sit. And the force of those spells was that I should sleep among them, like an image myself, and need neither food nor fire, though it were a thousand years, till one came and struck the bell and awoke me.”
– Chapter 5: The Deplorable Word

Whether Jadis’ sister factors into this version of the story remains to be seen, however NarniaWeb has previously received reports that upon arriving in our world, Jadis’ top priority is to find a crown, hence why she takes Digory on horseback to the Tower of London, where the Crown Jewels are held.

The Bell, but not The Hammer

Prop designer Ellen Gould has confirmed that this is indeed supposed to be the bell from the book’s fourth chapter “The Bell and the Hammer.” However, unlike the book it appears to be a hand-bell, rather than one which requires an (admittedly small) hammer to strike it.

The thing in the middle of the room was not exactly a table. It was a square pillar about four feet high and on it there rose a little golden arch from which there hung a little golden bell; and beside this there lay a little golden hammer to hit the bell with.
– Chapter 4: The Bell and the Hammer

Giant Jadis

After being re-awakened and leaping down from her throne, we see Jadis towering over the children, appearing to be much more giant-ish than we have previously seen her. Whilst it could just be the camera angle and staging, NarniaWeb has previously learned that scale-doubles were used on set to give Jadis a much taller stature.

One of the robed figures, the furthest-off one of all, the woman whom Digory thought so beautiful, was rising from its chair. When she stood up they realized that she was even taller than they had thought. And you could see at once, not only from her crown and robes, but from the flash of her eyes and the curve of her lips, that she was a great queen.
– Chapter 5: The Deplorable Word

Also of note: Jadis’ wand appears to produce colorful rings around it when her magic is being utilized. In the book, Jadis does not acquire a wand until the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Magic in the Real World / The Eagle & Child

We already knew from a behind-the-scenes set video captured earlier on in filming that, unlike the book, Jadis would be able to use her magic in the real world. Here we see her using her wand to destroy a car.

We’ve also previously seen the reveal of the Eagle and Child pub, which is a nod to the pub in Oxford where CS Lewis, JRR Tolkien, and the other Inklings famously met.

Fledge Takes Flight

We see a shot of Fledge taking flight with the children riding on his back, one of the most iconic images from the books.

The design of Fledge’s wings seems to be reminiscent of the design of Aslan revealed by Empire magazine, in that they do not appear to be organic wings, but perhaps rather more of a hand-stitched rag-doll type aesthetic.

“Be winged. Be the father of all flying horses,” roared Aslan in a voice that shook the ground. “Your name is Fledge.”
– Chapter 12: Strawberry’s Adventure

Creation in Progress

As the children fly over the world of Narnia for the first time, it appears that the land below them is still only partially created, as we can still see through it in places to observe the infinite universe of space below. The land itself appears colorful and painterly.

As Aslan begins creating Narnia, Lewis writes:

The earth was of many colors: they were fresh, hot and vivid. They made you feel excited; until you saw the Singer himself, and then you forgot everything else.
– Chapter 8: The Fight at the Lamp-post

The Cosmic Lion

Greta Gerwig has previously described Aslan as a “cosmic lion.” Here we see him literally made out of the cosmos.

The director also said this image from the book gave her goosebumps:

Then two wonders happened at the same moment. One was that the voice was suddenly joined by other voices; more voices than you could possibly count. They were in harmony with it, but far higher up the scale: cold, tingling, silvery voices. The second wonder was that the blackness overhead, all at once, was blazing with stars. They didn’t come out gently one by one, as they do on a summer evening. One moment there had been nothing but darkness; next moment a thousand, thousand points of light leaped out—single stars, constellations, and planets, brighter and bigger than any in our world. There were no clouds. The new stars and the new voices began at exactly the same time. If you had seen and heard it, as Digory did, you would have felt quite certain that it was the stars themselves which were singing, and that it was the first voice, the deep one, which had made them appear and made them sing.
– Chapter 8: The Fight at the Lamp-post

Stairway to Heaven

The entire trailer is set to Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and the music is synchronized here to ensure that the final word “Heaven” coincides with our first full reveal of Aslan himself, right before he radiates out the Creation itself from within him.

This marks the first time the song has ever been licensed. Greta Gerwig says she persuaded Robert Planet and Jimmy Page to license the song after showing them a cut of the film. The duo have long been known as fans of C.S. Lewis. Discussing the choice for the trailer, Gerwig says:

“[The song] about the true path of enlightenment and spirituality, and then this path of false idols and the wrong roads you can go down. And I was like, ‘This is exactly the story of this movie.’ It really is a spiritual quest and a spiritual journey, so to me, this was the song that made sense to introduce this into the world.”

Meryl Streep’s Aslan Voice Described as Sounding “Clearly Male”

Impending Doom — Sat, 17 Oct 2026 12:26:37 +0000

Ever since it was first reported that Meryl Streep would be playing Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, fans have been speculating about how exactly her voice will be utilized in the final cut.

One common theory has been that Streep will put on a deeper voice to sound more like Aslan is described in the books, possibly with the aid of post-processing. Relevant Magazine reported on Aslan’s voice in its coverage of the recent IMAX sneak peek event in New York:

But someone involved with the film who has seen it and asked not to be named told RELEVANT that Aslan is clearly male. The voice, that person said, comes across as Aslan, not Streep. And considering Gerwig referred to Aslan as “he” throughout the conversation, no, the beloved character is not being re-gendered. So we can put that rumor to rest.

NarniaWeb has also received several independent reports indicating Streep will give Aslan a deep, gravelly sounding voice.

This comes a few weeks after Writer/Director Greta Gerwig first addressed the casting of Streep in an interview with Empire:

“I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight. I wanted someone who was older than 70, so there was a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”

In the same article, Gerwig described Aslan’s character:

“Aslan is this cosmic lion that is awesome. Like, awesome in more of an antique sense — filled with awe — and the valence isn’t always delight. It’s also something that’s powerful and big, but it can also be frightening.”

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew releases in theaters on February 10, 2027.

Greta Gerwig Discusses Narnia, C.S. Lewis, and Her Adaptation at Exclusive IMAX Event

Impending Doom — Tue, 13 Oct 2026 18:01:00 +0000

NarniaWeb attended an exclusive IMAX sneak peek event at AMC Lincoln Square in New York City on Tuesday morning. The event featured the world premiere of the trailer for Narnia, two behind-the-scenes videos about the making of the film, and a Q&A with director Greta Gerwig hosted by Stephen Colbert. Here’s our report.

Note: Recording was not permitted at the event, so quotes were transcribed by hand and may differ slightly from the original wording.

Behind the Scenes

The event began with a behind-the-scenes clip. It opens with animated text of the opening dedication to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe: “Someday you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” The camera swirls past the words, and then we hear an actual recording of one of C.S. Lewis’s radio addresses (that became Mere Christianity): “People often ask when the next step…. to something beyond man…” was at least part of the included quote. Then a quick montage of behind-the-scenes shots.

Growing Up with Narnia

Gerwig spoke about her lifelong love of C.S. Lewis’s books, describing the stories as part of her DNA. She was read the books as a child and returned to them repeatedly as she grew older. When she was seven, her family also introduced her to the BBC adaptations.

She described them as “Amazing. No notes on BBC [Narnia adaptations]. Loved the beaver costumes.”

Like many readers, Gerwig started with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and read the series in publication order, meaning she didn’t reach The Magician’s Nephew until the sixth book. When she shared this, NarniaWeb’s own Glumpuddle began clapping. A few others joined in, prompting Colbert to remark, “We have people that like order here today!”

Gerwig recalled growing up wanting to be Lucy and wishing she could live in Narnia. Her childhood affection for the books stayed with her into adulthood and eventually shaped her approach to adapting them for the screen.

When she learned that Netflix had acquired the rights to the series, Gerwig said she made a “beeline to Ted Sarandos” to pitch the idea of beginning with The Magician’s Nephew. She was drawn to the starting scope, describing it as a story about the “life and death of a universe.” She wrote her first drafts of the film in 2020 and 2021.

Researching C.S. Lewis

Gerwig’s interest in Lewis goes beyond the Narnia books. As an adult, she read works including Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, and Surprised by Joy. When she took on Narnia, she expanded that reading considerably.

“I read or re-read everything Lewis wrote. Then I tried to read everything he read.”

She also retraced his steps in Belfast, Cambridge, and Oxford, hoping to understand the author better and bring her own instincts closer to his.

Gerwig spoke about how much it meant to her that the Lewis family supported the project. She also described Lewis as a “master of language.” While working on the film, she wrote out the lines from the Narnia books that gave her goosebumps, alongside other passages he had written.

The discussion turned to the trailer’s use of Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven. After the song played in the footage, Colbert joked about what Lewis’s favourite Led Zeppelin song might have been.

Gerwig explained that, as she understood it, the band had never previously allowed its music to be used in a film. Its members were familiar with Lewis’s work and held him in high regard, however, and agreed to let her use the song.

She felt it suited the film because of its epic scale and its themes of spiritual journey, enlightenment, and the possibility of going astray.

Building Narnia

Gerwig also discussed what appealed to her about making a film on the scale of The Magician’s Nephew.

“Movies of this scale are usually about destruction, which we do a little bit, but we get the opportunity to build up a new creation,” she said.

Music was an important part of that process. Gerwig brought Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt into the project early because Aslan’s song, which brings Narnia into existence, is central to the book. She wanted the music to be part of the creative process from the beginning.

Ronson and Wyatt wrote music early in production and gathered feedback from the film’s various departments. Their work continued on set, where they played a piano in the set for Digory’s house.

One of the two behind-the-scenes videos screened at the event offered a look at the production process. The footage showed the work involved in creating the film, with an emphasis on creativity and the use of real, physical elements wherever possible.

Casting Digory and Polly

Gerwig and casting director Nina Gold considered thousands of children while searching for the film’s young leads, David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell.

Gerwig said the pair first caught their attention in the audition tapes they submitted, which featured them reading dialogue with their parents. During subsequent in-person screen tests involving large groups of children, McKenna and Campbell would always find one another in the room.

Gerwig was able to watch their friendship develop during the casting process, something she said was integral to the film.

McKenna’s background offered another point of connection. Gerwig said she had not specifically sought out a child from Belfast to play Digory, but learning that McKenna came from the same city as Lewis felt like “a sign.”

Gerwig also spoke about the adult cast, Meryl Streep, Carey Mulligan, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and Daniel Craig, explaining that the actors involved loved the Narnia books and wanted to be part of the production in support of the younger performers.

“There’s a great tradition of established actors taking on supporting roles in British children’s films,” she said, describing something she wanted to carry forward.

The Q&A did not include further discussion of the actors’ specific roles beyond McKenna as Digory and Campbell as Polly.

Gerwig on Faith and Film

Colbert noted that his own introduction to Lewis came through the author’s Christian apologetics rather than the Narnia stories. He asked Gerwig how faith played a part in her film.

“Film and faith have always gone together,” she said, reflecting on her experience growing up in the church. She described church as a communal experience, with people gathering to sing in choirs and worship together.

Gerwig sees a similar quality in the cinema, where people from different walks of life gather in one place to watch a film. She also described making movies as an act of faith.

Random Notes

Gerwig shared a few additional production details during the Q&A. Her favourite scene to shoot involved the children riding on Fledge, something she said she had always wanted to do.

Her favourite set was the Wood Between the Worlds, which she felt conveyed a sense of the infinite. Outside the Narnia series, her favourite book by Lewis is Surprised by Joy, his autobiography.

Update 10.14.26

An edited14-minute highlight video of the Q&A has appeared online. You can watch it here.

NarniaWeb Review: “The Boy Behind the Wardrobe,” New Book About C.S. Lewis

Impending Doom — Thu, 08 Oct 2026 18:47:45 +0000

A new children’s picture book exploring the childhood of C.S. Lewis is set for release this month from Eerdmans Books for Young Readers. The Boy Behind the Wardrobe: How C. S. Lewis Grew Up to Create Narnia was provided to NarniaWeb as an advance PDF copy ahead of its release.

Review by AJAiken

Once there was a boy who was born to tell stories…

The Boy Behind the Wardrobe, written by Suzanne Poulter Harris and illustrated by Mira Miroslavova, is a picture-book biography of C.S. Lewis aimed at ages 6 to 12. Moments from his life are highlighted with rich illustrations to show many of the inspirations that led Lewis, known as Jack, to create the world of Narnia.

Miraslavova’s beautiful illustrations, which fill every page of the book, are both intricate and whimsical. Though they capture many real-world features, her drawings are full of fantastical elements. I’ve enjoyed looking through the pages again and again, finding new details each time. The autumnal palette suits both the joyful and grief-stricken moments in the story.

As a biography, Jack’s life is very simply traced. For confident young readers this book may feel too thin on certain details. However, the focus on imagination and creativity is what makes the story special. The descriptions of Jack’s ordinary moments inspiring his childhood stories would have delighted me as a child. Each page invites the reader to consider what might excite their own creativity.

Most key aspects that led to Narnia are touched on, but any mention of Jack’s faith is absent from the main text. As the book is not solely concerned with his childhood, this feels like a missed opportunity, particularly as it does so well at gathering his other inspirations.

The moments of grief, tragedy, and terror are sensitively dealt with both in the text and illustrations. I was particularly struck by the very young-looking Jack in the trenches. It’s an image that holds no horrors for children but conveys much to older readers.

For the youngest of readers the book may feel daunting, though the illustrations will draw them in. It may be best as a book to read alongside a child.

With stronger and older readers, there are other books that delve more deeply into Jack’s story, such as The Mythmakers by John Hendrix. Adults seeking a similar look at creativity and inspiration in C.S. Lewis’ life may enjoy Bandersnatch: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings by Diana Pavlac Gyler. However, adults will appreciate The Boy Behind the Wardrobe for the illustrations alone. There are several I would like to frame and hang on my wall!

Eerdmans Books for Young Readers will publish The Boy Behind the Wardrobe in hardcover and ebook formats on October 20.

C.S. Lewis Family Releases Official Statement on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew

Impending Doom — Tue, 06 Oct 2026 23:55:53 +0000

The Horse and His Boy dedication (1954)

The families of David and Douglas Gresham, stepsons of C.S. Lewis, have released an official statement via Netflix about Writer/Director Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. This comes days after Movieguide founder Dr. Ted Baehr made headlines by reporting the family had spoken to him about the film.

The Statement

“From our ongoing conversations with Greta Gerwig, we have personally witnessed her sincere passion for the Narnia series. Her life-long love of C.S. Lewis is apparent to everyone involved with this film. We saw this enthusiasm during our visit to the set in London. We are thrilled to be working with such a talented and accomplished director and production team, and are keen to continue working with them on future projects. Our vision is for this movie to be enormously successful and for this calibre of talent to be applied to all of the Chronicles of Narnia.”

NarniaWeb has also been in contact with the family, who told us they have not yet seen any footage or heard any audio from the movie.

Comments from Dr. Baehr

Last week, Dr. Ted Baehr told CBN that members of Lewis’ family were “very upset” about Meryl Streep voicing Aslan. Baehr said they were “concerned about it, because they’re worried that it’s going to destroy the brand,” and claimed that they were attempting to “regain control” of the company that manages the literary and media rights to Lewis’ works.

Baehr has longstanding personal ties to Lewis’s family, particularly through Douglas Gresham, who is godfather to at least one of Ted’s grandchildren. He was also president of the company that produced the 1979 animated version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (which he says Greta Gerwig “loved“).

Background: The Family

C.S. Lewis had no biological children. Through his marriage to Joy Davidman Gresham, he became stepfather to her two sons, David and Douglas Gresham (to whom The Horse and His Boy is dedicated to).

David died in 2014. Douglas, as our readers know well, has spent decades associated with the C.S. Lewis Company as a creative consultant and was closely involved with 2005-2010 Narnia films. He retains an executive producer credit on Netflix’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

However, in 2024, Douglas’ wife and children announced that he was suffering from frontotemporal dementia and was showing the early stages of Parkinson’s disease. They said he was being cared for at home by his wife and eldest son, and told NarniaWeb he was not expected to make a recovery.

Background: The C.S. Lewis Company

The C.S. Lewis Company currently has four employees, including co-director Vincent Sieber-Smith, who has held the role since 2012, and co-director Graham Williams, who joined in 2025. Williams has been affiliated with Christian organizations including Compassion UK and Hillsong Church London.

The company, which holds rights to Lewis’ literary works and is involved in the production, has previously stated:

“It’s incredibly moving to see how deeply Greta Gerwig has embraced C.S. Lewis’ world, and infused Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew with joy, heart, and genuine love for the story.”

A source who worked on the film told NarniaWeb that representatives of the C.S. Lewis Company were on set “every single day” and were actively involved in creative discussions about the film.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew will be released in IMAX and theatres worldwide on February 12, 2027, before arriving on Netflix on April 2.

Walden Media’s ‘Narnia’ Trilogy Getting Triple Feature Blu-ray Re-Release

LentenLands — Mon, 05 Oct 2026 13:00:00 +0000

The Walden Media Narnia Trilogy is heading back to Blu-ray tomorrow. Listings on Walmart, Amazon, and Blu-ray.com currently have the Narnia 3-Movie Collection (Blu-ray + Digital Copy) scheduled for October 6, 2026, priced at $27.75, though Disney has yet to put out an official announcement.

The set’s suggested retail price is listed as $40.99, but both Walmart and Amazon are currently selling it for $27.75, with a code for a digital copy of all three films redeemable through Movies Anywhere.

At the current price, the collection is about $8 cheaper than buying the three individual Blu-rays ($35.61 on sale together on Amazon, as of writing), and considerably less than importing the equivalent UK edition re-released earlier this year. However, these appear to be the same discs already sold, not newly remastered copies. The additional bonus feature discs from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian are also missing.

That being said, the set’s price may well drop further once it’s out. Disney budget releases of this kind often end up a few dollars cheaper, sometimes more so during sales (the same three films sold as a digital bundle fell to $2.99 last October). That seems especially likely given the proximity to the release of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew on February 12, 2027.

We’ll update as more is confirmed.

Will you be picking up a copy? Let us know in the comments below.

New Details Emerge on Mattel’s ‘Polly Pocket’ Playset for The Magician’s Nephew

Icarus — Sat, 03 Oct 2026 10:41:42 +0000

New details have emerged on the upcoming Narnia-themed Polly Pocket playset, that we first reported on back in June, via new online listings from Amazon.

The Polly Pocket x Netflix Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Compact Playset from Mattel reportedly contains 8 accessories, including micro figures for Aslan, Digory, Polly, Jadis, and perhaps most excitingly, Fledge.

The playset is priced at £50.99 in the UK and scheduled for release on 31 December 2026. Based on this price-point, the Narnia playset is likely to be comparable in size to the recently announced Netflix Bridgerton Polly Pocket playset which is also due out in December.

Spanish toy manufacturer Famosa previously released a similar micro-figure playset for Walt Disney and Walden’s The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe back in 2005.

The new Magicians’ Nephew Polly Pocket playset is currently available for pre-order via Amazon and Amazon UK as well as other online retailers.

Ciarán Hinds Reveals Details About His Mysterious Role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

Impending Doom — Fri, 02 Oct 2026 02:48:48 +0000

On the red carpet for his new Netflix film East of Eden, Academy Award nominee Ciarán Hinds spoke with Gold Derby about his mysterious role in Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew.

Hinds explained that he plays a narrator and will only appear briefly in the film, saying audiences “may see me once or twice, but otherwise it’s vocal.”

“I can only tell you that because I play the role of a narrator and I’m not very featured in it … [you] may see me once or twice, but otherwise it’s vocal. It was just myself, the crew, and Greta Gerwig working together for one day is what I did.”

Hinds also spoke warmly about working on Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, describing his single day on set as an enjoyable experience.

It was a wonderful day just to work with her and the crew and the brilliant photographer, Seamus McGarvey, who’s from the same part of the world as I am, but he’s rather brilliant”

When Hinds was first announced as part of the cast in May 2026, we noted the possibility that the Belfast-born actor could be playing an adult Professor Digory, with David McKenna portraying the character as a child. McKenna is also a Belfast native, as was C.S. Lewis.

Netflix has not officially confirmed Hinds’ character at this time. Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew releases worldwide in 134 days (February 12).

Full Empire ‘Narnia’ Article Describes Charn, Reveals Name Change for Digory’s Mother

Glumpuddle — Wed, 23 Sep 2026 12:30:54 +0000

After sharing several long snippets and images this past week, Empire Magazine has finally published their full feature about their visit to the set of Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

The story includes new images of Digory and Polly in the attic, Uncle Andrew interacting with Digory and Polly at the front door, and Digory snuggling with his mother in bed. The images have not been released online yet.

The feature is long and wide-ranging. Read on for a short summary of the highlights:

Story Points

Digory’s mother is named Flora instead of Mabel. Flora was the name of C.S. Lewis’s mother that died of cancer when he was nine years old. (According to our sources, one of Polly’s sisters will be named Mabel)

Digory and Polly are neighbors, as in the book. Empire visited the set of the kitchen in Polly’s house.

The Charn set, Empire says, “looks, perhaps uncoincidentally, like an exploded pinball machine. Lights flash orange and green, huge chrome orbs are pushed into the ceiling. The set is rooted in technology and art that felt full of wonder during the time that The Magician’s Nephew is set in.”

“Aslan is this cosmic lion that is awesome,” Gerwig says. “Like, awesome in more of an antique sense — filled with awe — and the valence isn’t always delight. It’s also something that’s powerful and big, but it can also be frightening.”

Behind the Scenes

Gerwig approached Netflix in 2020 and suggested they start with The Magician’s Nephew. “If you take the seven books together, it’s about the life and death of a universe,” she told them.

During the casting process, David McKenna (Digory) and Beatrice Campbell (Polly) teared up as Greta Gerwig explained how C.S. Lewis lost his mother to cancer.

Gerwig had a dream about Meryl Streep playing Aslan. “It felt fitting to me, as Lewis wrote about dreaming of lions when he first began writing the Narnia books.”

During filming, Meryl Streep would stand on a ladder and read Aslan’s dialogue.

Gerwig was present when Streep recorded her vocal cameo for Project Hail Mary, which was also produced by Amy Pascal.

When Daniel Craig (Uncle Andrew) was eight years old, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was the first book he read cover-to-cover.

You can read the full feature by purchasing a copy of the November edition of Empire Magazine in stores tomorrow.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew releases worldwide in 142 days (February 12).

Continuing their series of first looks at Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, Empire Magazine has published our images of the wood between the worlds, one of the most memorable locations in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. Also revealed is Frank, who NarniaWeb first reported would be played by Kobna Holdbrook Smith, with his horse Strawberry.

A few notable story points mentioned in the article:

“Failed attempts involving some rather unfortunate guinea pigs…”

“London local called Frank, and his loyal horse Strawberry, accidentally tagging along for the ride.”

“For any keen carpenters out there, don’t be put off – there might be hints at future furniture adventures in Digory and Polly’s tale.”

Lewis & Tolkien Easter Egg Features in New Set Photo from Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

Icarus — Fri, 18 Sep 2026 16:36:56 +0000

Empire Magazine are continuing to unveil their latest batch of Narnia exclusives by offering up a fresh new look at Emma Mackey in costume as Jadis, who appears to be wreaking havoc on the streets of London with her scream.

Keen-eyed Narnia fans however may be more excited to spot that the pub in the background bears the same name as the legendary Eagle & Child pub in Oxford where C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, and the other Inklings frequently met

As well as this new image, Jadis actress Emma Mackey also offered up some fresh insights on her character to Empire magazine:

“There’s this great line in the script where she’s described as ‘all chaos and bad plans […] She’s this larger-than-life creature who appears in Digory and Polly’s world and takes them by surprise.”

Empire Magazine are continuing their exclusive reveals for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew by offering us our first ever look at Daniel Craig in costume as Uncle Andrew.

Craig himself has also opened up about the role for the first time, telling Empire Magazine:

“I’d like to say that his intentions are good, but I’m not sure that they are […] It’s not to say that he’s cruel and mean and awful. He gets overexcited about what could be, and therefore overlooks the people around him and the consequences of what he’s doing.”

Greta Gerwig Opens Up About the Rock ’n’ Roll Influence on Narnia Movie

Glumpuddle — Thu, 17 Sep 2026 16:51:07 +0000

Another article from Empire Magazine has landed, this one focusing on the musical sources that influenced Geta Gerwig’s vision for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.

The article clarifies that the movie is not a musical, but “British rock music from the ‘60s and ‘70s – the glam scene, the proggy wildness – all proved significant creative touchpoints for Gerwig.”

Greta Gerwig: “Narnia is literally a world made out of music. It is a world sung to life by Aslan, and rock ’n’ roll to me felt like a world made out of music.”

Also included is our first official look at Jadis, apparently leading Digory and Polly through the ruins of Charn (above)

First Look at Aslan, Voiced by Meryl Streep in Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’

Impending Doom — Thu, 17 Sep 2026 15:23:09 +0000

Empire Magazine has the first official look at Aslan’s design in the upcoming Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew film and “he’s” voiced by Meryl Streep.

This new edition, on sale Thursday, September 24, will bring you face-to-face with none other than Aslan, the mythical lion at the heart of Lewis’ saga. In Gerwig’s film, Aslan’s heterochromic eyes and bold red-striped visage nods to one of her key creative inspirations: David Bowie.”

Greta Gerwig explains her casting choice:

“I wanted someone who was profound but not pretentious, who had gravitas but not morose self-seriousness. Someone who could communicate depth and pathos as well as joy and delight, as a wisdom of experience, but who also had the capacity of fresh wonder, like a child. And also to be one of the greatest actors to ever do it. That list is not a long one.”

What do you think?

This morning, Netflix took to social media to unveil the new logo, accompanied by the tagline “A universe begins.” The posts also feature the following caption:

“Experience the creation of NARNIA, as filmmaker Greta Gerwig brings to life C. S. Lewis’s beloved story THE MAGICIAN’S NEPHEW for the first time. In theaters worldwide February 12, 2027.”

Netflix has also launched official social media accounts for the film. Fans can follow @NarniaMovie on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter) and visit the newly updated NarniaFilm.com

Midnight Road Entertainment, the production company of Narnia co-producer and C. S. Lewis Company Managing Director Vincent Sieber, also reshared Netflix’s announcement, adding:

“Further Up and Further In. We couldn’t be more exctied for Narnia”

Last May, Gerwig shared how she first encountered The Magician’s Nephew as a child and the lasting impact the story had on her.

“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,” says Gerwig. “I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being.

Because of C. S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me. … It transformed me.”

Nashville Test Screening Offers New Clues About Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

Impending Doom — Mon, 14 Sep 2026 23:36:14 +0000

Netflix is still keeping Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew largely under wraps, but the film is making the rounds with test audiences. A new private screening scheduled for later this month in Nashville, Tennessee, gives us a look at the movies Netflix is using to help gauge audience reactions to Greta Gerwig’s new film.

The sign-up invitation describes the screening as an opportunity to “experience the creation of Narnia” and features the following description:

You’re invited to experience the creation of Narnia. From the wild and unlimited imagination of Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig (Barbie) comes a unique vision of C.S. Lewis’s beloved story The Magician’s Nephew.

A poster accompanying the invitation (see here) features headshots of David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Daniel Craig, Carey Mulligan, and Emma Mackey. Interestingly, the poster’s border appears to match the one used on a letter from Greta Gerwig included in the anniversary gift boxes sent out earlier this year.

While anyone between the ages of 15 and 64 in the Nashville area could sign up for the screening, only people who fit the specific demographic Netflix is seeking for this test screening will ultimately be invited to attend. As part of the screening questionnaire, potential attendees were asked to check which movies they had “seen and enjoyed.” The list included:

The NeverEnding Story

Labyrinth

Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (any)

Wicked (1 or 2)

Project Hail Mary

Barbie

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice

Back to the Future

Jumanji: The Next Level

Wonka

Guardians of the Galaxy (any)

These kinds of questions can help studios better understand the audience they are testing a film with. By asking viewers which existing movies they have seen and enjoyed, filmmakers can get a better sense of the tastes and expectations of the particular audience watching their film and compare their reactions against those preferences. The specific titles chosen can also reflect the kinds of audiences or genres the studio believes may overlap with its own movie.

The list is an interesting mix of fantasy adventure films, family-friendly blockbusters, and movies with strong musical elements. Several of the choices also line up with what we’ve previously heard about Gerwig’s Narnia, from its reported rock-and-roll influence to its emphasis on practical creature effects.

Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story, and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice are particularly notable in that regard and happen to be new additions compared to the same list used for previous screenings.

Previous Screenings

Multiple test screenings of an unfinished The Magician’s Nephew have been taking place in New York and New Jersey, where post-production is based, with reports of mixed reactions from some audiences.

While we aren’t able to share much of what we’ve heard, we can say that an individual who attended one of the screenings was “surprised” to hear that it had received a mixed reaction. The attendee personally rated the movie highly, saying:

It is very faithful to the book by what I could tell from reading [this] summary of the book. I can’t wait to see it again finished.”

As with any test screening, the version of the film shown to audiences is not necessarily representative of the finished movie. Scenes can be extended, removed, or changed based on audience feedback, and visual effects are often very rough, making it difficult to draw firm conclusions about the final film from any one screening.

In any case, fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the finished film for themselves, with Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew set to arrive in theatres worldwide on February 10th, 2027.

Have you heard any details from one of the test screenings? Fill out an anonymous spy report or send us an email to keep us in the loop!

Movie Tie-in Editions and “Meet Aslan” Book to Release Ahead of Gerwig Film

Ginger Faun — Thu, 10 Sep 2026 00:44:15 +0000

On November 10th, HarperCollins will release paperback and hardcover box sets of the seven Chronicles of Narnia novels, including images and possibly other information from the upcoming Greta Gerwig Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew film.

The books, including a stand-alone edition of The Magician’s Nephew, will be available at most common book carriers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books-A-Million, Bookshop, Target, and Walmart.

No official cover art has been released yet, but it is common for tie-in editions to use a poster for the new adaptation as a cover, which makes it appear possible that the first poster for the Gerwig film will be released by that point.

A tie-in edition for the 2005 Walden adaptation of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

In addition, an I Can Read children’s book titled “Meet Aslan” will be released by HarperCollins on January 19, 2027. It has been illustrated by Thai My Phuong. According to HarperCollins, the book is:

A Level 2 ‘I Can Read‘ introducing emerging readers to one of the most beloved literary characters of all-time— Aslan, the Great Lion from C. S. Lewis’s bestselling classic fantasy series. Aslan is the Great Lion. He creates Narnia with his song. . . [the] book [features] an engaging story, longer sentences, and language play perfect for developing readers.”

No cover image is available for this title yet. However, Thai My Phuong also came out with an illustrated edition of The Magician’s Nephew earlier this year, which may give readers an idea of the art style. You can watch NarniaWeb’s review here.

‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ Merchandise Confirms a Key Element of Greta Gerwig’s Movie (Updated)

Impending Doom — Wed, 02 Sep 2026 15:04:20 +0000

Update 04/09/26: Although the product listings appeared on Amazon Mexico’s official Funko store, a representative from Funko has reached out to NarniaWeb to tell us that they are not accurate. The article below has been preserved as originally published.

We first reported earlier this year that Funko, best known for its popular Pop! Vinyls line, would be producing a line of Narnia products based on Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew. Now, updated listings from several international sellers have given us our first hints at what the film’s marketing may emphasize.

Depending on the market, it appears that up to five figures will be released. Three will be standard-sized Pop! figures, while the remaining two are listed as a Super and a Premium figure.

More revealing are the product descriptions accompanying the figures, several of which reference key elements of the story:

Magic rings can open doors to entirely new worlds. Funko POP! The Magician’s Nephew steps into your Chronicles of Narnia collection with the story that started it all.

The story of Narnia’s creation comes to your shelf. Funko POP! The Magician’s Nephew joins your Chronicles of Narnia collection as a must-have for fans of the classic tale.

A new world begins with a single step through a garden. Funko POP! The Magician’s Nephew joins your Chronicles of Narnia collection as the tale’s origin unfolds.

Every legend has a beginning. Funko POP! The Magician’s Nephew makes a Super-line addition to your Chronicles of Narnia collection.

The most notable detail is the explicit mention of magic rings. In C.S. Lewis’ novel, Uncle Andrew’s rings allow Digory and Polly (and a Guinea Pig) to travel into the Wood between the Worlds, setting them on the path to Narnia.

While it would hardly come as a surprise to Narnia fans that the rings would feature in an adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, this is our first indication from the film’s licensed merchandise that they will play a role in Gerwig’s adaptation.

The references to Narnia’s creation and the story’s origins are fairly straightforward, particularly given Netflix’s current logline, which says the film will invite audiences to “experience the creation of Narnia.” But the line about a “single step through a garden” is more open to interpretation.

Of course, Funko’s product listings aren’t necessarily intended to provide detailed plot information. Still, with Netflix yet to release a trailer for the film, even these small details offer an interesting glimpse at how The Magician’s Nephew is being presented to the public — and potentially at which elements of the story will receive particular emphasis in the marketing.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to arrive in theatres on February 12, 2027, before coming to Netflix later that year.

6 Moments in Narnia That Fill Us with Joy | Talking Beasts

Glumpuddle — Thu, 27 Aug 2026 16:48:18 +0000

For me personally, the emphasis on joy might be the most distinguishing feature of C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. I imagine it takes a lot of confidence for a writer to a take break from dramatic tension and give the reader a chance to bask in beauty, wonder, and pure goodness. Lewis does this many times throughout the Narnia books, and I suspect it is the main thing that draws me back to them again and again. In this episode, we share the moments from these stories that have filled us up with joy the most. We hope it brightens your day, and that you will share your favorite moments in a comment! –Gp

Narnia Casting Director on Finding Digory and Polly for the Film’s “Gigantic Story”

Icarus — Wed, 19 Aug 2026 13:29:21 +0000

Award-winning casting director Nina Gold has offered some brief new insights into the casting process for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew in a recent short interview with the casting website Backstage.

Gold herself kick-started the search for Narnia’s two young leads back in January 2025 with an open casting call sent to drama schools, acting groups, and talent agencies across the UK, which required children to perform a short piece to camera about their “happiest memory”.

Backstage asked Gold about this somewhat unconventional approach to casting, and what advice she would give to young actors:

Backstage: When casting Netflix’s “Narnia,” you asked kids to tell stories rather than perform scenes. What advice do you have for actors who are so focused on the “perfect” performance that they lose some of their authenticity?

Nina Gold: It’s really hard, but as a child actor, you just have to bring what you’ve got. It’s not necessarily about having learned all the lines in one particular way. It’s about seeing different sides of a person and seeing what sort of potential they have, and the rest of it can possibly come later. Also, it’s meant to be fun. If you’re a child actor, it really is supposed to be fun. Otherwise, what’s the point?

The second round of the audition process involved the children performing a more traditional dialogue scene featuring two fictional characters, named Isadore and Frannie, in a scene loosely resembling Digory and Polly’s first meeting in the book.

Multiple rounds of casting eventually saw David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell secure the highly coveted roles.

Backstage: What specific traits or qualities were you looking for when casting the new ‘Narnia’?

Nina Gold: We were looking for kids who could occupy the center of this gigantic story and keep you wanting to watch them, which is an incredibly big ask for children to bring enough acting talent and their own personality to the whole thing.

The Narnia cast and crew have continued to speak highly of both David and Beatrice, with Nina Gold, who also worked alongside Francine Maisler on the casting for Narnia, previously describing Digory actor David McKenna as “an old soul” and “quite unusually brilliant”.

Greta Gerwig’s ‘Narnia’ Praised as a “Hand-Knitted” Production Despite $280M Budget

Impending Doom — Fri, 14 Aug 2026 03:56:04 +0000

Two-time Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Seamus McGarvey recently offered new insight into Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, including his reaction to seeing a rough cut of the film and his thoughts on its visual approach.

The report comes from a NarniaWeb reader who attended a masterclass with McGarvey at the Armenian Cinematographers Guild workshop on July 15, 2026, during the Golden Apricot International Film Festival in Yerevan, Armenia.

McGarvey spoke about Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew with fondness, describing the production as “the biggest budget hand-knitted project,” and said that the filmmakers had “a dream of poetry in our souls” while working on the film.

He also revealed that he had recently watched a rough cut of the film with Gerwig in London. The screening took place on July 10, and he described getting completely absorbed in what he was watching.

He said that when he watched the Narnia rough cut, he was lost inside the film – that’s how he knew it was a good film. He was really just excited about it and talked about the film with such wonder.”

McGarvey also discussed the importance of having writers involved during the filmmaking process. He said his best experiences on set have come when writers are present because they can remind filmmakers of the meaning behind a story, even when production deadlines are tight.

McGarvey mentioned that he had read The Magician’s Nephew before becoming involved with the film. During the masterclass, while responding to a question about Narnia, he described screenplays in general as the “rarefied version” of novels, which are denser and contain more ideas.

Following the event, the reader also had an opportunity to speak with McGarvey privately, where the cinematographer discussed the film’s visual approach and its treatment of grief.

When I talked to [Seamus] later on, he was excited about the nature or the visuals of dreamscapes in the film. I also mentioned I read and reread the Narnia series growing up and The Magician’s Nephew is the book that taught me deeply about grief during a personal experience. And he said that yes, the film will talk about grief, given what happened to the boy’s mother.”

McGarvey then personally recommended reading C.S. Lewis’s A Grief Observed (1961), calling it “the ultimate book on grief”. When the reader mentioned that McGarvey and Lewis were both from Northern Ireland, he replied:

“Oh yes, but have you heard his accent? It’s so different! It’s posh!”

Based on their conversation, the reader came away with the impression that grief is being treated as a meaningful theme in Gerwig’s adaptation.

During a podcast appearance last November, Seamus McGarvey casually remarked that the film had a $280 million production budget.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew recently resumed production, with additional photography picking up at Shepperton Studios. The film is scheduled to open in theatres worldwide on February 12, 2027, just over six months from now.

Additional Photography Begins on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia

Glumpuddle — Fri, 07 Aug 2026 16:03:08 +0000

Cameras are rolling again on Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew. Additional filming began on Monday at Shepperton Studios, six months after principal photography wrapped.

A source close to the production told NarniaWeb this is “additional photography happening, not reshoots.” We also believe that the principal cast is not expected to participate, suggesting the shooting is not extensive. Production is expected to last no more than two weeks.

Additional filming is a normal part of the filmmaking process. Netflix’s Cliff Booth is planning a few more days of shooting ahead of its November release. Famously, The Lord of the Rings trilogy filmed for 14 months, but then returned for pickup shooting prior to each movie’s release. Significant reshoots, on the other hand, would mean throwing away footage that has already been shot and completely redoing scenes. Although Jeff Sneider recently reported that Narnia “hasn’t been testing as well as Netflix hoped,” all signs point to this additional filming being fairly minimal.

Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew begins its theatrical run on February 10, 2027. What moments from the book are you most excited to see in a movie adaptation? Post a comment below!

Emma Mackey Praises ‘Narnia’ Child Actors David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell

Icarus — Thu, 06 Aug 2026 16:59:50 +0000

David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell may be newcomers to the screen, but they have already earned high praise from one of their veteran co-stars.

In a new interview with Porter Magazine, Emma Mackey spoke warmly about the young actors leading Greta Gerwig’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, describing the experience of working alongside them as transformative.

I’ve never really worked with young actors before,” Mackey said of David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell, who play Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer. “They’re so talented. It really changes you as a performer because you start to see it through their eyes.”

While the interview offered little in the way of new details, Mackey did briefly touch on playing the film’s villain. Laughing off requests to reveal more about the notoriously secretive production, she described the role as “very fun,” particularly because of the scale of the project.

Mackey isn’t the only cast member who appears to have enjoyed stepping into a villainous role. Earlier this year, Daniel Craig’s longtime body double, Mark W. Taylor, revealed that the actor was “a lot more relaxed” while playing Uncle Andrew than he had been during his James Bond years.

Mackey’s praise for her young co-stars also comes as both actors continue to attract attention beyond Narnia. McKenna, in particular, has been tipped as one to watch after recently signing with leading Hollywood talent agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), which also represents Greta Gerwig.

With Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew marking the first major feature role for both young actors, Mackey’s comments offer an early indication of the impression they have made on their co-stars.
