The Position:

The Business Development Director will source, develop and manage relationships and drive new business through and with Apptio alliance partners with a primary focus on driving potential OEM arrangements with technology partners. In addition, this individual will build and managed the overall Apptio technology partner ecosystem. This position will interact with all levels of the organization and will have a significant role in our fast-growing Bellevue-based software company. This position reports to the Vice President of Business Development and is suitable for someone with significant previous experience in complex, custom OEM deals, channel sales and/or enterprise software business development.

Job Responsibilities:

Develop alliance relationships with technology partners to maximize their success with Apptio and make alliances a key scale factor for Apptio.
Drive complex, custom deals with large technology partners to OEM slices of Apptio’s SaaS capability as an embedded product or service offering through partners’ sales channel and process.
Partner with Product Management and Engineering to ensure Apptio’s SaaS platform and applications are ready to support the requirements of OEM and technology partners.
Help to build to the overall technology partner strategy, including OEM strategy, integration partners, and application development partners.
Provide and coordinate partner training, enablement and certification to enable partners to scale quickly without deep Apptio involvement in every sales cycle and customer deployment.
Establish a process to measure and track success of technology partners. Maintain account plans for each key partner.
Work closely with partners and Marketing to drive thought-leading and lead-generating marketing programs with key technology partners.
Negotiate, renegotiate, amend or create new contracts with partners as required.
Manage Apptio’s involvement in the partner programs of large technology vendors to drive value for Apptio through marketing and sales benefits.
Work closely with Marketing and Director of Partner Programs to develop and launch a partner program which makes recruiting, enabling and managing “breadth partners” a repeatable, scalable process..

Essential Skills & Education:

Outstanding track record in business development or channel sales, with strong selling skills.
Minimum 5+ years demonstrated success in OEM or channel sales or partner management in enterprise software and 10+ years in business development overall.
Demonstrated, referenceable experience leading the development, negotiation and close of complex, custom software OEM deals.
Proven ability to structure proposals, term sheets, drive contract negotiations and build joint business plans with partners.
Preference given to candidates with strong knowledge of corporate IT, SaaS and cloud computing.
Strong program and project management skills, ability to direct cross-functional processes and teams.
Proven ability to open doors, network and forge relationships.
Excellent listening, communication, presentation, problem solving, and time management skills with a record of sound business logic.
Enthusiasm, energy, creativity and drive. Proven self-starter, comfortable working in a very independent manner.

Technical or business undergraduate degree required. MBA preferred.

Travel:

The position may involve significant travel, most likely in the range of 20-30% on average but potentially higher during peak periods.
