I picked up a new knit cardigan recently from Spanish label Desigual. Its thick, warm and a bright red – something I just know is going to work well on my upcoming holiday. In the atypical style of Desigual, the cardigan is cut like a bolero/shrug in front, but long at the back which is a little unexpected. Love it! I have a pic below

It was also one of the most sedate looking pieces of clothing found at the Desigual store – haha! Just take a look at some of the shots I took of the clothes available at the store and you’d understand what I mean.

I did say they aren’t for the faint-hearted They are clothes for the men and women who do not mind being being ogled but although some of the dresses were quite interesting, they were made for those who are more well endowed unfortunately. Otherwise they don’t fall very well.

Random search topic for the week

This week we have a strange query via search that asked “what is the duck peek tool called for pap smears” which led them to my post on what to expect during a pap smear. I think they meant duck beak tool which is called a scapula *giggles* thanks for spotting my mistake! Its a scepulum

Clarins “We Care” water bottle for charity

You might have already seen pictures of this floating around the internet. Yes, Clarins’ annual “We Care” project to benefit children homes puts a water bottle for sale at RM12 at all Clarins counters. Proceeds will go to charity and you do your bit for the environment by not using more disposable plastic bottles. I hope its BPA-free plastic You can see pictures by Prettybeautiful who got herself one!

Elianto Sparkling Diva Nail Polish

Elianto will have 20 new Sparkling Diva nail polishes retailing at RM10 each. Sparkling Diva! Sounds so pretty right? I’d like to sport something sparkling on my nails since its the end of year and all when party season starts to kick in

Review: Madara Regenerating Night Cream

I could have lumped this review with the introduction to the to Madara EcoCosmetics but I chose not to. The reason is because I found this night cream worthy of a special mention.

I’ve been using the Madara Regenerating Night Cream for over 2 weeks now and my skin seems to be happy with it. Granted I’ve gotten my skin to a texture I’m very happy with now after feeding it sufficient moisture so my main concern with using this night cream was whether it would break me out.

It did not. However, I must warn you that this cream is quite thick and heavy on the skin. So use sparingly. After some experimentation, I now use slightly less than a regular pea size – its quite sufficient for this cream. If you use too much, your face might feel oily and greasy. If you use just the right amount, it sinks right into your skin and feels nice.
MADARA Organic Skincare : Foaming Cleanser and Deep Comfort Toner

Early this week we were introduced to organic makeup in the form of Madara – a certified organic brand from Latvia. I had something else lined up today but I thought I’d tell you about the Madara EcoFace Organic Skincare before you go off to claim your samples this weekend The products I was sent were the Madara Ecoface Deep Purifying Foam Cleaner and Deep Comfort Toner - the first 2 steps in any skincare regime.

Madara Deep Purifying Foam Cleanser – RM98/150ml

Now I’m a sucker for foaming cleansers – I love the convenience because you don’t have to do the lathering up, its already done for you with a pump of the bottle. The Madara Deep Purifying Foaming Cleanser does not disappoint in this regard.

The Madara cleanser has a light flower scent which is not disturbing, and cleans the skin a treat. I use it both in the morning and evening and after about 2 weeks, I’m still liking it. I’m also happy to report that I’ve not encountered allergies to this one. Previously I had problems with other organic brands where I developed contact dermatitis after being allergic to some of the ingredients. No problems with this one!

It might seem pricey off hand but I only use 1 pump each time. From experience with similar foaming cleansers of other brands, I can expect to get 3-4 months of use from this one.

Pros: Cleans skin well, Feels gentle, Lovely soft foam

Cons: Some might consider it pricey

If I have just 1 product I really like from Cellnique it will be this – the Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel. You might have heard of this product – I have in various online forums a few years ago and I’d always wondered about this wonder gel that keeps skin clear and pimple free.

In fact, there is a similar sort of product in the pharmacies under the brand B.Liv which I’m told is not from the same brand or maybe it was but isn’t now, I’m not sure. This one is by Cellnique Paramedical – available only in selected salons and online. However, I can now understand the raves for the Cellnique Skin Action Sebum Gel after trying it for myself.

Just 2 weeks using this gel and my nose and chin area is almost blackhead and spot free – even when right smack in the middle of crazy monthly hormones! You are told to use this on your congested areas so that’s what I did.

Do not expect to see results immediately. It took me slightly over a week before I noticed that my nose and chin areas looked clearer and smoother. This was with minimal blackheads and congestion to start with. If your skin is very congested it might take longer to see results. This clear gel is very light in texture and you only use quite little, and only on problem areas so it can last you a while.

You could get a sample and try it for yourself – details after the jump and are limited but open for worldwide participation! Hopalong now…

Ecotools Blush Brush and Retractable Kabuki Brushes are useful and affordable

I know I said I did not want the Ecotools brush set that everyone raves over, but I did want to try at least 1 Ecotools brush since so many people love it! So, when Makeup Masala was having a sale on Ecotools brushes, I jumped at the opportunity! Incidentally you can get Ecotools brushes in Malaysia now.

Ecotools Blush Brush is soft dense and worth the money

I got the Ecotools Blush Brush simply because my MAC 219SE is on its last legs. Its scratching my cheeks to bits everytime I use it! The Ecotools blush brush is lovely and fluffy yet dense and firm enough for blush application. It reminded me of the blush brush from The Body Shop but with a denser head.

It picks up colour well and applies nicely to the cheeks and the synthetic bristles are soft yet firm. Due to its long handle, I only use it at home, and because the handle is made of bamboo, its light. I prefer brushes with a bit of heft to it, but its ok – you get used to it.

I’m happy with the blush brush – its become my everyday blush brush for now, working well with both light and strong coloured brushes but more so for lighter colours – it picks up colour well so even blushes like Benefit’s Dandelion show up.

I got mine for about RM27 – US$7.75 or so but its retailing in Malaysia for RM45 which I found expensive by comparison to its online prices. If you want an inexpensive blush brush that works, I suppose RM45 is still an ok price to pay but US$7.75 is a way better price to pay!

Makeup Storage Tips: How do you store yours?

I had some recent requests from readers and friends who were curious as to how my dressing table looks and as to how to store makeup and skincare items. Reader Gette wrote to me:-

Hi Paris!

Ever since I’ve gotten into this cosmetics thing, my bathroom shelf is overflowing with my skincare, make-up and accessories. I’m pretty sure you have more things than I do, so how do you store your stuff?

Thanks!

Incidentally, just yesterday, Syen of Soloverly asked to see what my bathroom cabinet looked like. I don’t store my cosmetics or skincare in the bathroom but in my bedroom on/in a dresser. On a personal note I do not recommend the bathroom for storing cosmetics if you also use it to shower – the heat and high humidity can cause products to spoil. So, with the pressing requests, here’s a combined post showing you roughly what my dresser looks like (when its neat and clean) and how I store my makeup and skincare.

My dresser is part of a bedroom set that I picked up from a furniture store that promptly burnt down 2 weeks later. Ah yep! Insurance I have no doubt Anyway, I chose it for the many drawers it had and the large mirror it came with.

Most of my cosmetics are stored in storage boxes on top of the dresser which makes things very cramped and not pretty. However, its practical and I tend to go for practical over pretty. Practical means I have less to dust as boxes are easier to wipe down

So ends the story of how my dresser looks – onto how I actually store my makeup, skincare and etc…
MAC Cosmetics Holiday Collection 2009 : Some thoughts
I’m confused. Is MAC’s holiday aka Christmas collection for 2009 known as Magic Mirth and Mischief or is that a different line altogether? You can tell you aren’t reading the blog of a MAC Cosmetics fan when you see this LOL…

I’m confused. Is MAC’s holiday aka Christmas collection for 2009 known as Magic Mirth and Mischief or is that a different line altogether? You can tell you aren’t reading the blog of a MAC Cosmetics fan when you see this LOL…

Anyway, I was in Penang over the weekend for work where I stumbled (literally) on the MAC Magic Mirth and Mischief launch. I tripped over the raised edge of the platform and it was only by sheer luck that I did not end up on my face

You can read about the MAC Magic Mirth and Mischief collection on Lipglosseater where you can also see some nice clear swatches. I’m here to tell you what I think about the limited edition sets and brush sets MAC comes up with every year for the Holidays.

MAC Lip and Eye Bags – Holiday 2009 (RM150) (link)

These bags caught my eye first. Actually I was quite taken in by the lip products. The House of Mirth Deep lip bag set is nice if you like a strong lip. The lipstick is Fantasia and Get Rich Quick Dazzleglass gloss. The other lip set is a light pink in Put a Spell on you Pink Lip bag. Lipstick, gloss and pencil come in a little bag.

All thoughts of lipstick flew out of my mind the moment I saw the eye bags. Ah these are some eye bags I don’t mind having! Haha… The SA did not believe me when I told her that Melon Pigment in the Alakazam! bag is a repromote. I should know girl, I have a sample! And its gorgeous! MAC pigments are about my only weakness from MAC and to prove her wrong, I’m wearing Melon today with chocolate liner whee!
