Ingrown Toenail Remedies

It might surprise you to know that you are not simply one among a few who suffer from ingrown nails. More than ingrown fingernails, one is exposed to ingrown toenails. This would be one of the commonest complaints when it comes to foot problems not associated with injury. However, this toenail problem is not so innocuous since it can cause a great deal of pain. To put it simply, an ingrown toenail is what results when your toenail (rather, its sharp edge) pokes into the skin. This could occur right at the end of one’s toe or the side of it. Usually one of the first symptoms of this problem would be inflammation which comes along with pain. It is hard to ignore this toenail problem since the pain associated with the condition is unlikely to go unnoticed. This is clearly associated with the point where the ingrown or curled toenail penetrates one’s toe skin. An ingrown nail infection is more serious, and is the inevitable result if one tries to simply wish away the problem. A more serious consequence of not attending to this ingrown toenail would be the problem of an abscess. When the toenail infection progresses to this late a stage, the surgical option might be the only one left. This is why infections and general skin and health problems are best dealt with in the initial stages. If you get to work and get help dealing with that ingrown toenail, it can thus prevent a lot more serious foot problems. An interesting fact to note about ingrown toenails is that, despite the lifestyle of children; infants and children typically do not face this foot problem. This nail problem however, as mentioned before, is known to occur with adults rather frequently. Furthermore, one’s big toe is most likely to be affected.

Once infection has set in the toe, it is a doctor who has to be consulted. This is imperative to prevent the infection from spreading, and to keep abscesses at bay. One should be able to identify infection from light and red colored skin, and possible drainage. Other signs include progress in the degree of pain as well as inflammation of the toe or the development of a fever. General home treatments that would work in case of a regular ingrown toenail include soaks with the ever useful Epsom salts and certain antibacterial soaks. Some steps that help include – comfortable shoes, and a straight trim when one attempts to cut their nails.

Winter season brings with the cold, a different set of problems for not only one’s health but also one’s skin condition. The number one skin problem which everyone associates with winter would be dry skin. While a number of people have to combat dry skin no matter what the weather is like, dry skin is chiefly most prominent when winter comes along. While hiding one’s dry skin under layers of clothing is a temporary measure, dry skin would require special treatment to bring it back to normal. Almost everyone has a skin care routine that one tends to follow some of the time, if not on a regular basis. What people do not really realize is that winter would require a special routine, with extra emphasis on keeping dry skin at bay.

Winter Skin Tips

One of the first places to look when reexamining one’s winter season skin care regime would be the type of products used. The dry, cold weather would necessitate greater moisture for one’s skin. This would mean choosing moisturizers that are specially formulated for use when winter comes or those that are meant to be potent. One of the most popular and effective moisturizer would be simple petroleum jelly. Beauty product companies are constantly developing newer and allegedly better, more improved products to combat skin dryness, especially during winter. Petroleum jelly on the other hand is an often overlooked product which is extremely useful when dealing with skin cases that are extremely dry. This is not just for use when winter comes around. This can be used as moisturizer when one’s skin is dry in any weather. Since the timing is important, application should typically be once one has finished bathing. It usually works best to apply any kind of moisturizer while the skin still feels slightly damp, immediately after one’s shower or bath. There should be a second application of moisturizer just before the individual decides to go to sleep. Aloe vera is another winter care option, since the gel works great for dry skin.

People should not forget that during winter time the body could do with an extra amount of water, to keep the skin healthy. Constantly drinking water can help the body when it gets colder, since the skin is naturally prone to drying up thanks to the weather. While hot baths feel especially great when winter comes along, this is a major factor contributing to the problem of skin dryness; therefore, quick, warm showers would be a much smarter option.

What Causes Sores On Mouth Corner

A lot of people have woken up to dry skin present in the corners of their mouths. This has been typically described as a dry, tight sensation such that it feels that there is a pull, even in repose. This dry skin can make opening one’s mouth rather uncomfortable and painful. In some cases, the appearance of such dryness around the corners of the mouth can be potentially embarrassing, and can make the person facing the problem of dry mouth corners feel rather self-conscious. Even if one attempts to smile, the pull feels all too uncomfortable, as the skin feels horribly stretched and sensitive. The skin’s appearance could be normal or the corners might appear to be rather scaly or possibly cracked. Often, people describe this as cracked mouth corners, with the possibility of flaking in that region. In most cases, such skin is attributable to the problem of Angular cheilitis. The symptoms in such cases include cracks and splits in that region, which can be rather prominent. There are more serious cases of this condition where your mouth corners which have such splits or cracks can even start oozing a little blood when one attempts to open one’s mouth. Consequently, one could face a crust which occurs as a result or even a shallow ulcer.

Remedies For Cracked Mouth Corner

Treatment for this condition of dry corners would depend on the cause. However, there are a number of reasons why you have those dry, cracker mouth corners. Underlying reasons would include a possible lack of vitamin B as well as common infection. When it comes to infection, most commonly that dryness is on account of fungal infection (like the widespread Candida infection), but could be on account of other kinds such as bacterial infection. In cases where the patient is still a child, it could be on account of biting this area or overly licking their lips or even thumb sucking behavior. When it comes to such dryness observed in patients who lack teeth or have been fitted with dentures but have been without them for a while, it could be on account of over-closure of their mouths.

In most cases, simple lip lubrication would be enough to treat this problem. However, if it is fungal in nature, then treatment would include hygiene and antifungal treatment. In some cases, vitamin supplements, particularly vitamin B supplements can help. Natural remedies for that particular vitamin deficiency include whole grains and bananas.

Acne is one of the most common skin ailments that plague millions of people around the world. Black heads, white heads, inflamed lesions, pimples, papules, pustules and cysts are all caused by acne. Most forms of acne leave behind scars if not attended to properly as scars are a part of the body’s natural process. These scars are mostly formed as a result of picking at the blemishes leading to a spread of infection.

How To Use Vitamin E For Acne Scars Removal

Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that help in preventing skin damage. They are especially useful in the prevention and lightening of scars. Hence, vitamin E is one of the best known remedies for fading away any type of scar. Applying a liberal layer of vitamin E oil on the affected area and leaving it on overnight will prove to be beneficial in reducing scars. The oil is known to penetrate the layers of the skin and restrict the formation of free radicals that contribute to skin damage, thus facilitating healing. Vitamin E is also known to strengthen the skin and keep it flexible. The skin softening ability of vitamin E also ensures that the skin remains hydrated thus reducing scarring. However, it is essential to keep in mind that it is easier to prevent the formation of a scar rather than fade away an already existing scar. Hence, in order to see results, vitamin E oil should be applied to the affected area as soon as the scar is seen. However, some studies say that vitamin E oil has no proven benefits with regard to skin scarring.

Alternately, massaging the skin with a mixture of lemon juice and honey is known to be beneficial in getting rid of scars. Both, lemon juice and honey are known for their skin healing and antimicrobial properties. In addition, lemon juice is a natural bleaching agent that helps in preventing scarring and reducing pre-existing scars. A face mask made with gram flour, turmeric powder and milk cream is another useful remedy that helps in reducing the prominence of scars. Apply a layer of this paste to your skin and allow it to dry completely. When dry, gently rub it off with circular movements of your fingertips. This ensures that all dead cells are exfoliated. The milk cream nourishes the skin while turmeric lightens scars and prevents infection. Cucumber juice, when applied to the skin, is also known to lighten scars and close open pores, thus improving the texture of acne prone skin.

The lips are the most prominent part of the face and as a result of this, any change in color or texture becomes immediately noticeable. Dehydration, hyper pigmentation and the accumulation of dead skin cells are the main causes of dark lips. Smoking, changes in weather conditions or constant licking of the lips could also be responsible for darkening and drying of the lips.

The lips do not have sweat glands or sebaceous glands that keep skin lubricated. Hence, moisturizing your lips throughout the day is beneficial in keeping lips moist and supple. The production of melanin (the skin’s natural pigment) increases when the skin is exposed to direct sunlight since melanin is the skin’s natural sunscreen. The skin covering the lips is very delicate and thin, making the lips more susceptible to tanning. The use of a lip-gloss, lip balm or lipstick with a sun protection factor as well as a moisturizer is advisable so as to prevent damage caused by the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the sun. Most people use a sunscreen on the rest of their face and forget the lips, as a result of which the lips gain a dark hue.

Dead cells tend to accumulate on the lips making them look uneven and unattractive. Rubbing your lips gently with a toothbrush designed especially for toddlers will help in removing the dead cells without causing damage to the skin as these toothbrushes are very soft. Doing this just after a bath is recommended as it is at this time that the skin is the softest. Avoid rubbing your lips for too long or very hard as this may cause bruising, thus causing more harm to the lips. Lemon juice is known for its natural ability to lighten skin tone and exfoliate skin. However, lemon juice tends to leave a slight tingling sensation due to its acidic content. Hence, rubbing your lips with a mixture of honey and lemon juice is beneficial in nourishing the lips while making them healthy, luscious and fresh. Applying a paste made with a teaspoon of gram flour, a little milk cream and a pinch of turmeric powder on the lips is another useful remedy. Allow the paste to dry completely before rubbing it off gently to reveal healthy lips. This promotes removal of dead skin while the milk cream provides nourishment and turmeric lightens skin tone while preventing microbial infections.

ashes refer to a change in the texture, color or overall appearance of the skin. As a result of a rash, the skin may become itchy, blistered, cracked or uneven due to inflammation. Some rashes may cause a change in skin color and some may be very painful or result in a stinging or tingling sensation. These changes may be spread all over the body or may be restricted to one area of the body, the torso in your case. Some rashes may also be indicative of certain disorders. As you have not described the rash or given specific details, it is difficult to recommend specific remedies for the same. Consulting a doctor is recommended as a doctor would be able to ascertain the exact cause of the rash based on its appearance and then prescribe suitable treatment.

What Causes Rash

The most common causes of a rash include allergic reactions, insect bites, friction, eczema and acne. Bacterial, fungal or viral infections such as chicken pox, herpes, or ringworm could also be responsible for rashes. In rare cases, anxiety and stress could be the cause of rash. Rashes could also be the effect of sunburns and pollution.

If the rash is caused by an allergic reaction, staying way from the allergen is recommended. Most people develop rashes as a result of certain foods or beverages. Hair care and skincare products, detergents and fabric softeners are other common causes of skin irritation. If you have just switched to a new product or if you notice that the rash appears on using a particular product, discontinuing its use immediately is recommended. Certain fibers present in clothing or sheets can also cause rashes. The use of natural fibers reduces the chances of skin rashes.

Treatment For Rash

Applying a layer of aloe gel to the affected area may prove to be a beneficial treatment as aloe is known for its ability to heal and soothe skin and kill infection causing germs due to its antimicrobial properties. After a bath, a final rinse with a few drops of tea tree oil added to water will help in treating a rash caused by microbes. Deep breathing exercises and meditation techniques will help in reducing stress, anxiety and related rash. If you swim often, especially in public pools, the rash could be caused by a chemical or pollutant present in the water. However, before using any home remedy seeking medical advice is recommended so as to ascertain the cause of the reaction and prevent further complications.

Chicken pox is a highly infectious viral disease that is known to spread through air or on contact with an infected person. A low grade fever, weakness, fatigue, headache and a slight cold or cough are symptoms of this disease. Chicken pox shows up in the form of blisters on the skin. Over the next 5 to 20 days, the blisters dry up and scabs form. These blisters and scabs are the cause for a continuous itching sensation and great discomfort. Chicken pox is contagious till all the scabs fall off on their own. Hence, picking at or scratching the skin should be avoided so as to prevent the spread of infection.

Remedies For Chicken Pox Scars

The scars left behind by chicken pox can be rather prominent and unsightly. In order to make sure that the blisters do not leave behind these ugly marks, it is essential to be cautious right from the start. A bath daily with lukewarm water in which a few margosa leaves have been boiled is beneficial when an individual is experiencing chicken pox. This helps in relieving the itching sensation thus reducing the chances of scars being left behind by untimely removal of scabs. Adding potassium permanganate to bath water also helps by destroying the microbes responsible for the condition. This also ensures that no new blisters show up. Before a bath, smearing the skin with pure honey may be an effective remedy for the prevention of scarring. Honey is a natural healer known for its ability to assist in the quick healing of skin ailments. Its antimicrobial properties will also help in killing the virus responsible for the spread of chicken pox. After every bath, the application of sandalwood oil, especially on the affected areas, will help in healing the skin and preventing the formation of long lasting scars. Calamine lotion applied on the blisters promotes quick drying of the blisters and prevents itching. The use of vitamin E oil is also known to be beneficial in the prevention of scarring owing to chicken pox.

After all the scabs have fallen off, if the scars are still visible, the regular application of a mixture of lemon juice and honey will prove helpful in fading scars. Lemon juice is a natural skin lightening agent that is also known for its ability to heal damaged skin due to the abundant presence of antioxidants. Lemon juice is also known for its antimicrobial properties. Drinking plenty of water will ensure that the skin is hydrated at all times thus increasing the elasticity of skin promoting quick healing.

With shaving being one of the most commonly used methods of hair removal, razor burns are a very common occurrence. However, when using a razor one needs to be very careful as an improper method of shaving or the use of an inappropriate blade could lead to numerous problems like cuts, bruises and ingrown hair in addition to razor burns. A razor burn is skin irritation that crops up in the form of a mild rash that appears a day or two after shaving or when the hair starts growing back. Depending on the severity, the rash may last from a few hours to a few days. Razor burns may also be accompanied by ingrown hair or razor bump

Home Remedies For Razor Burns

If you have razor burns, avoid shaving till the skin clears up completely so as to avoid aggravating the condition. Wash your face with cold water in order to reduce the swelling and minimize the period of the irritation. Adding a few drops of tea tree oil to the cold water will also help in getting rid of infection causing germs. The application of aloe gel on the affected area is known to be beneficial in the treatment of razor burns as aloe vera is a natural moisturizer. It also has natural healing abilities that soothe the skin and reduce inflammation. Aloe’s antimicrobial properties also assist in killing any germs that may spread infection.

In order to avoid the occurrence of razor burns, the technique used while shaving plays a very important role. Shaving at an angle or shaving in different directions increases the chances of razor burns. While shaving, holding the razor straight is very important in order to prevent damage to the skin. A close shave or shaving in the direction opposite to that of the hair growth can also be the cause of razor burns. The use of blunt blades should be avoided as they make shaving difficult thus increasing the pressure on the skin. Blunt and old razors also have a tendency to pull the hair. Quick or rough shaving could also be cause for razor burns and hence careful shaving when relaxed is recommended. Insufficient lubrication or dry shaving can also result in razor related problems. Hence, the use of shaving gel or soap is extremely important in order to keep the skin moist. In addition, shaving after a shower is recommended as at this time, the skin as well as the hair is soft. Cleansing the skin before a shave will also ensure that the skin is free of germs, oil, dead skin cells and pollutants.

Straight, silky hair is an asset and very few people are blessed with it. The secret to stunningly beautiful straight hair is keeping hair soft and healthy. By and large, the look of the hair mainly depends on the natural quality, type of hair and texture. The haircut opted for also has the ability to influence the appearance of hair. If you have your hair cut in layers, it is very difficult to get a straight look. In the case of naturally wavy or curly hair, only chemical treatments will be able to straighten out the hair. However, it is essential to bear in mind that the use of these chemicals is only a temporary solution to straight hair and causes a great deal of long term damage.

Natural Hair Straightening Tips

Dry hair with split-ends tends to look wavy. Pollution, exposure to the harmful rays of the sun and stress also take a toll on hair texture. Covering your head when outdoors will prove beneficial in protecting the hair from damage caused by direct exposure to sunlight and pollution. Deep breathing exercises will assist in reducing the effects of stress. Constant blow drying and ironing of hair can also make hair unruly and wild and should be avoided. Breakage will also contribute to a rough look. Combing your hair with a wide-tooth comb, when it is almost dry, will help in straightening hair without causing breakage. The choice of hair products also plays a crucial role in the texture of the hair. Repeated hair treatments and harsh hair care products, loaded with chemicals, tend to strip the hair of natural oils thus making it lifeless, dull and unattractive. Hence, the use of natural remedies to straighten hair is recommended.

Hair that is well looked, after on a regular basis will look beautiful. Massages play a vital role in improving the flow of blood and natural oil to the follicles thus strengthening hair from the roots. Coconut milk is a natural conditioner that has the ability to straighten hair effectively. Massaging the scalp with coconut milk will provide nourishment to each strand, making hair soft and easy to manage. Adding a few drops of lemon juice to the coconut milk will also ensure that all germs capable of causing infections are killed. A massage with a mixture of olive oil and dried rosemary leaves will also leave the hair soft and straight. Olive oil, coconut oil and almond oil also have the ability to straighten hair. After the use of a mild shampoo, a final rinse with half a cup of apple cider vinegar will also prove beneficial in making hair healthy, glossy and straight.

What Causes White Spots On Lips

White spots on lips can be caused by any number of medical conditions. In many cases, a viral infection is the root cause. For example, the common cold virus can cause oral herpes, a condition that leads to white spots on the lips and in the oral cavity. Other common reasons for such symptoms are genital herpes, chickenpox, and infections of the salivary glands or lymph glands. Most of these viral infections are harmless and usually disappear in a matter of days. However, people with weak immune systems may experience dangerous complications due to the inability to fight the infection. In any case, a visit to the doctor is the only way to correctly diagnose the exact reason of the white spots. In most cases, a simple visual examination is sufficient, but some condition may require a biopsy of the skin in the discolored area. Once the underlying condition is identified, it can be treated and the white spots will reduce and vanish.

Sometimes, the lips develop yellowish-white spots called Fordyce’s spots. These are commonly seen on the borders and inner surface of the lips. In most cases, they are quite small and have a granular appearance. These are perfectly harmless and are not associated with any disease or other medical condition. No treatment is required since they are a normal condition with no side-effects or complications. However, they can be cosmetically displeasing and socially embarrassing. Dermatologists can easily remove Fordyce’s spots with procedures such as chemical peeling, carbon dioxide lasers, and electro-desiccation.

In cases of white spots occurring due to inflammation of the skin, it is advised not to apply saliva on the spots. This is because excessive saliva can further dry out and irritate the skin, making the condition worse. This especially true in cases where the skin may be cracked near the white spots, with an appearance similar to chapped lips. A light coating of petroleum jelly usually helps to protect the spots against excess moisture. Aloe vera gel can also be useful, especially since it has the ability to speed up the recovery process in most skin-related infections. If the white spots are due to a lack of melanin (skin pigment) in the affected area, certain biological treatments can stimulate the growth of melanin cells. These usually contain an active biological substance called mucin that is extracted from sea snails. Certain over-the-counter products can also help to restore skin tone.
