Comes in around 5.7% alc by volume.

We use some medium and dark caramel malts, lots of chocolate malt, and a little bit of wheat for some added head retention. Hop additions are Chinook early in the boil, Cascade late in the boil, with another big dose of Cascade at the end of the boil.

specs:

OG 14.5P

FG 4.0 P

IBU ~38

Resolution Rye Stout is deceptively smooth, with a spicy malt backbone and Belgian yeast aromatics. Comes in around 6.8% alc by volume.

We used lots of rye malt and rye flakes, along with Midnight Wheat (a bitterless black malt) rather than roast barley. Its fermented with our house Belgian yeast strain and hopped with Nugget for bitterness and East Kent Goldings for flavor.

specs:

OG 16.9 P

FG 4.5 P

IBU ~41
.

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed

Old Forge Brewing Moving To New Brewpub @ Former Lemon A’Peel Building @ 298 Mill Street

Exciting news coming from our pal Damien Malfara:

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you! In 2013 we will be starting a new chapter in the story of Old Forge. We will be relocating the brewpub to a much improved location, the former Lemon A’Peel building, at 298 Mill Street.

For those of you who have been with us since the beginning, you remember the days when we could barely keep 3 to 4 beers on tap and the very long waits on weekends. We thank you for continuing to support us during those early learning days. We overcame many of those challenges when we did our 2010 expansion. However, due to continued space limitations and the fact that we do not own the building, we weren’t able to act on many of your suggestions for improvement: bathrooms on the second floor, space for meetings/private parties, off-site catering, and improved climate control to name a few. Now I’m happy to announce that this will all change!

Please be assured that we will take great care in keeping the unique feel and atmosphere you’ve come to know at Old Forge Brewing Company. We will continue to use local artisans and craftsmen to help forge the new space, creating a comfortable, casual environment while improving our ability to provide you with the best possible experience.

Keep in mind we are still in the initial planning stages so things may change, but our plans include more kitchen capability, up to 16 beers on tap (plus a beer engine for you cask aficionados), increased bar and dining space on both floors, private dining and meeting rooms, 2nd floor bathrooms, handicapped accessibility, improved climate control on each floor, brewhouse and fermentation areas on display on the first floor, and many more improvements.

Many details still need to be worked out. We will keep you posted on our progress. In the meantime, enjoy all your moments at our current location, as they will become only memories as time goes on. And when the time comes for the big move, we’ll announce a huge “closing” party, complete with new beers being tapped, live music, special discounts and give-aways, and a fond farewell to 282 Mill Street. When the new space is ready, we’ll have a grand re-opening at 298 Mill Street!

Once again, thank you to all our customers who have made our time at 282 Mill Street a great success. We look forward to an even greater future at the new home of Old Forge Brewing Company!

Cheers!
Damien and Maria Malfara & everyone at Old Forge Brewing Company
target="_blank">Damien Malfara and Old Forge Brewing company as they have grown from a small brew pub to a production brewery…and I’m excited to report that Damien will be topping 1,000 bbl by the end of 2012. This from the RepublicanHerald:

The demand for the more popular beers - Endless Summer Ale and T-Rail Pale Ale, in pint-sized cans - led Malfara to open a second brewery at 601 E. Market St. in the Irontown Commerce Center, the former location of TRW. At the site, they brew, keg and can beverages to be distributed by local distributors Henry Voelcker Inc. and Maloney Distributor and Philadelphia area distributor Bella Vista. Also, the beer can be purchased at Weis Markets and restaurants in the region.

At the brewery on Market Street, there are four brewing tanks, four fermentation tanks and two bright beer tanks, where the beer is stored before packaging.

The two buildings are separate operations with their own liquor licenses. Everything sold at the Mill Street location is brewed there with the exception of Endless Summer and T-Rail, Malfara said.

Malfara is expecting to produce 1,000 barrels of product by the end of 2012 after having brewed 500 already this year. There are 31 gallons in a barrel.

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed

Old Forge Celestial Blonde Ale Coming to 16oz Cans

Damien Malfara will be shipping his T-Rail Pale Ale & Endless Summer cans into the Philly market. This is exciting news for everyone at OFBC and in Philly. Here are the details from Damien…

We are celebrating our launch in the Philly market starting Feb. 1st...which is next week (unbelievable how time flies)!

I'll be down in Philly the whole week promoting the beer and the schedule is listed below.

If any of you want to come out to any of the bars/restaurants/beer stores to hang out and sample some fresh Old Forge beer, please take a look at the schedule below.

We are entering the market with our two flagship brands, the hoppy T-Rail Pale Ale and the easy drinking Endless Summer Ale, both in kegs and 16 oz. cans. But for our launch party, we brought down special beers that are not available anywhere else except our pub in Danville. We even filled a firkin of our Bellows Brown Ale aged in a bourbon barrel for Standard Tap! And if you are into barrel-aged beers, we also brought our Quad and Hank the Belgian Stout, both aged in bourbon barrels for 7 weeks!

So I hope to see some of you sometime next week to catch up, have a beer, and celebrate Old Forge coming to Philly!

Cheers!

Damien

Wed 2/1/12
Standard Tap- 7pm- ?? (Launch of Old Forge in Philly!)

2nd & Poplar Streets in Northern Liberties 215-238-0630

http://maps.Google.com/maps?um=1&hq=&gl=us&resnum=1&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&cid=0,0,12586758701372871398&fb=1&hq=standard+tap&hnear=philadelphia,+pa+19123&gl=us&daddr=901+N+2nd+St,+Philadelphia,+PA+19123-2301&geocode=18285148044863832472,39.964151,-75.140610&ei=rxjfSt7FKtng8AaP8_Fu&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=directions-to&resnum=1&ved=0CA8QngIwAA

Old Forge beers on tap:

Bourbon Barrel Aged Brown Ale Firkin
T-Rail
Endless Summer
Ludwig's Lager
Bourbon Barrel Quad
Bourbon Barrel Aged Hank The Belgian Stout
Ol' Smithy Spiced Winter Ale
Underbite IPA
Slack Tub Stout (Nitro)

_______________________________________________

Thurs 2/2/12
Whole Foods - 6 pm to 8 pm

500 W. We'll be serving complimentary birthday cake and playing some games with some prize giveaways, as well.

As it happens, our birthday coincides with the anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition so there are two reasons to celebrate!

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed

Old Forge Brewing Co–Fall 2011 News

Just a few highlights from the Old Forge Brewing Co Fall 2011 Newsletter:

Single Malt Fuggle was the customer-appreciation week favorite from Damien’s single malt series (Saaz, Liberty, & Fuggles). Upcoming beers include Hop Mama Amber, Smashin’ Pumpkin, Hank the Belgian Stout (in honor of Damien & Maria’s newborn Hank), & a Bourbon Barrel Aged Belgian Quad (to be released for their 3rd anniversary).

The production brewery is progressing…floors are ready and all the new equipment is on-site awaiting installation. Justin James (new head brewer) & Jason Vansickle (cellarman) have both joined the OFBC team as well….so it’s exciting to see things moving forward. Cheers & Congratulations!

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed

Old Forge Brewing–Single Malt Fuggles & Baconfest!

Just heard from Damien @ Old Forge Brewing :

This week we tapped up the last of our single malt/single hop series, Single Malt Fuggles. In a few weeks we will have all three of the them (Saaz, Liberty, Fuggles) on tap simultaneously so people can try them side by side. All the beers used Vienna as the lone malt, and were brewed exactly the same with the only difference being the hop variety. It has been immensely popular in the pub and we may do something similar in the future.

Next week we are having a Baconfest at the pub. Tons of bacon - our menu will be baconized for one week. We'll be having pork trivia, chocolate covered bacon, and we're tapping up some of the Old Forge Rauchbier, with its sweet and smoky character it will perfectly complement all the bacon.

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed

WILK Friday BeerBuzz–5 Aug 2011 (Old Forge Brewing w/Damien Malfara)

Back in Oct 2010 we welcomed Damien Malfara from Old Forge Brewing in Danville, PA on to the Friday BeerBuzz to sample his Smashin’ Pumpkin Ale. The beer was great, and Damien was a great guest…so it was only natural that we’d want to get Damien back on for another visit and to sample some more great brews.

I have to thank Damien in advance since he’s up to his ears in the opening of an Old Forge Brewing Co Packaging Brewery. We brought you the news back in March, but it was a lot more fun to hear Damien describe the new facility.

Look for a new 20bbl brewing system to be in place (located at the former TRW plant on Market St in Danville) but I think I was most excited to hear a few things. First off watch for 16oz cans of Old Forge Brewing Co Beers to be released into our market. Initially I’m expecting to see Endless Summer and T-Rail Pale Ale (the beers we sampled today), but I suspect we’ll see even more beers in cans from OFBC as time allows. You can check out the announcement here for Endless Summer and T-Rail cans.

I think what was most exciting to hear for me was the news that Damien would be using the original brewpub system to experiment and perhaps even brew some specialty 750ml bottles and even come barrel aged beers. Very exciting news for Damien and for our local craft beer community….so stay tuned for some upcoming OFBC beers coming soon.

Thanks

to Damien Malfara from Old Forge Brewing Co, Nancy, John, Joe, and Bosco for yet another fun Friday.

The Friday BeerBuzz…bringing good beers and good people together. Market Street in Danville this summer. We have a used JVNW brewhouse, originally built for 15 bbls but modified by the most recent owners to knock out about 23 bbls. So we're using it as a 20 bbl system. We're getting new 40 bbl fermenters from Premier Stainless. We have been getting some other pieces of used equipment lately to complete the brewery and we'll continue to look around for other items as needed. We'll be doing kegs (sixtels and halves) and canning on a Cask 5 head ACS, with plans for 2 labels initially in 16 oz cans. We'll add labels as we grow. We also will package special/seasonal beers in 750 ml bottles and will begin experimenting with some barrel aged beers, using bourbon barrels and wine barrels.

We will continue to operate the brewpub as normal. I'm hiring a full-time brewer and full-time cellarperson for the brewery, but I will continue to brew at the brewpub for as long as possible, with the other brewer filling in there as needed.

I'm sure you may have some questions...If you do, feel free to ask either via email or call me and I'll answer what I can. In the meantime, I'll try to keep you posted on how our project progresses.
--
Damien

Thanks Damien…this is great news for our local craft beer community and I can’t wait to follow your progress.

Update (3/21): I heard from Damien today and he tells me the new facility will be called Old Forge Brewing Co and only OFBC beers will be produced there (no plans for contract brewing). The brewpub will serve as the “pilot” brewing system to develop new beers on a regular basis and experiment with different beer styles and ideas. Damien also tells me OFBC does have plans to distribute their beers throughout Central and Eastern PA initially.

mybeerbuzz.com Old Forge Brewing Feed
