- WD-40  (car part lubricant)
- Liquid dishwashing detergent

Track 1 Omaggio with Nathan Pacheco and Chloe is  luxuriant and sumptuous, it swept me away as though I was bicycling through a warm Italian Villa. Track 2 The Keeper with Leslie Mills & Track 4  Never Leave the Sun reminded me very much of Vanessa Carlton – or pop music for mature listeners.  Track 3 Our Days & Track 6 1001 both had wonderful Middle Eastern flair which brought me to a place of warm hues, belly dancers and spice. Other tracks on the CD include the velvety vocals of Nathan Pacheco and Ender Thomas, whose voices are both bold and sensuous, a cross a times between Pavarotti and Enrique Iglesias.

If you are a fan of Eastern influences, operatic overtures, and the songs of Sarah Brightman, you will find the blends on this CD delightful. The bovine brew is in the final stages of development by the Cow Protection Department of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), India’s biggest and oldest Hindu nationalist group, according to the man who makes it.
Om Prakash, the head of the department, said the drink – called “gau jal”, or “cow water” – in Sanskrit was undergoing laboratory tests and would be launched “very soon, maybe by the end of this year”.
“Don’t worry, it won’t smell like urine and will be tasty too,” he told The Times from his headquarters in Hardwar, one of four holy cities on the River Ganges. “Its USP will be that it’s going to be very healthy. It won’t be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins.”

I liked customizing my cheerleader, but even that wasn’t enough to make me enjoy my game. I may try it again though and revamp my review, but for now I am not impressed. The time it takes to initialize the balance board and I still haven’t needed to use it.

I loved the idea of a lamp that gradually lights from soft to bright and plays soothing sounds – like oceans, birds, forest, town, etc.  It even has a sleep mode that you can set in 15 min time increments.  The lamp came with a pillow attachment that is basically a little speaker to stick under your pillow so only you can hear it.  The Rise and Shine lamp also has a rotating color display with time, date, and alarm details. The lamp itself is not fitted to my decor and probably would only work in a MOD decorated room, it really is not a thing of beauty and the color makes it look like it is yellowing or dirty. It would be more attractive if they made it look like their TwiLight Lamp.

So what could be wrong with this lamp? Well, if it gets too dry in your room, the static builds up and the lamp ceases to function.  Fine, I bought my lamp a humidifier assuming that if it was too dry for the lamp, its too dry for me.  A month later as I am trying to lull myself to sleep with the calming forest coos of an owl I get this terrible feedback noise like a machine gun going off.  I call Gaiam to complain – turns out this is a common problem. They tell me to send the lamp back and they send me a replacement.  A month later, same issue while I am using the pillow speaker – OMG! I nearly went deaf and peed myself at the same time at 6am when I was waking up.

Needless to say, for $200 I think they could do a better job with the wiring on these lamps.   At this point I am not sending the stupid lamp back, I just use it for light – what a waste.

The technique is a Shiatsu type massage and acupressure, which was at some points ticklish and others quite painful.  I liked the scalp work, and the shoulder/neck work was second to none in my book, the arm squeezing made me feel like I had high blood pressure and my arms were about to explode (I hate squeezing on my arms which makes doctor’s visits a pain for blood pressure readings).  The absolute worst for me though was the guasha type technique on the legs – I started tearing up in the eyes – I have found lately that the sides of my thighs are tender to the touch and a little lumpy – after this massage that was gone so maybe they were knots or build-up/deposits – who knows.

After we had our massages (30 Minutes) – we walked around the mall trying to convince DH to get the free 10 minute massage my friend had earned as a frequent visitor.  I finally won by saying “Well you always say you would do anything for me!”

The poor masseuse looked like he needed a massage, and several times I thought the chair was going to break – DH confirmed these feelings too – and said it simply felt like DS7 trying to kick him or hit him, oh well.

For years now I have stuck to mineral make-ups because they are natural, have better hues and colors, and are usually cruelty free.  I recently discovered the wonders of Etsy (more to come later about a wonderful item I had made for a friend) and all the make-up it has to offer.  I usually drop $200 at a time in Ulta on cosmetics that never seem to be what I want so when I saw this awesome deal on tiny samples of wonderful colors for only $10 ($1.30 shipping) I grabbed it.

Yesterday my package arrived.  15 small baggies, enough to sample (and with my use probably last all year) of some amazingly vivid and sparkly colors, an alcohol swab and application brush arrived.  With an infant there isn’t anywhere currently that I am going with Kiss style makeup on, but I think I’ll play with it later on, maybe even post a follow up photo.

Like everyone else and their mother who has jumped on the Wii bandwagon, so has our family.  We picked up Jillian Michaels’ Fitness Ultimatum 2009, and I guess I live under a rock because I did not know she was the personal trainer for the reality show Biggest Loser – then again I don’t watch much US Television let alone scripted reality TV.

DH was the first to test this out, and boy did I want to get our camera out and film him.  He looked absolutely ridiculous on the train car training, not to mention very camp in the running portions – both him and his avatar.

I jumped on and tried the Custom Workout mode – terrible.  It started with a boxing routine, I followed the directions, but nothing happened.  My avatar did not move, but the energy bars and balance dot did.  Then onto the grenade toss, another bust.  Half the times my avatar did not pick up her grenade and the rest of the time I failed to see the point in this game.   I know I had bad form in order to get the game to register me, and I felt as though I was throwing my elbow out as well to get it to work.

DS liked watching the overall screens, but he’s 7, anything that looks remotely like GI Joe world to him is cool.  As for the adults in the family, we were not impressed – which is not surprising.  I found out after that most game sites gave this particular Wii Game mixed reviews, most not good.

Same Health Club Spa sale, spotted to clear cylinder with little tubs inside, took a closer look and read they were Lip Gloss – now my Lips Gloss is far from ever Poppin’ so I thought why not pick them up – Jane Iredale is another animal friendly line made with vegetable oil bases, and again the magic on sale sign sold me. A quick trip to their site makes me believe the ones I picked up are out of season colors- the colors on the site are more spring like and to my liking, but you get what you get with sales.

Key like is the tube design.  Those darn tiny foam tipped swab like brushes never give me enough product, but I found you can actually squeeze this tube like toothpaste -GENTLY! I learned this the hard way – and get more on the brush. The plumper tingles a tad but nothing near the burning sensation I once had with a grocery store buy years ago – didn’t even know this was plumper until I looked closer at the label.

The only drawback is how stick this stuff is, but then again it is lip gloss.  I prefer something to go on a little less thick, yet still give color and coverage.  I don’t like feeling as though I have put melted marshmallows on my mouth.  At least this one was not a bust like the others.

Just a tad of shimmer makes this great, the colors I picked up were not over powering so I do not look like the Joker as I normally do.

I was at the gym when I saw that spa was offering discounted products.  I love supporting anti-cruelty items, Verikira products are certified vegan, use natural ingredients, and were 40% off – a perfect fit.  Behold a wonderful little tube package with brightly wrapped orange things – I inquired as to what they were – Verikira Cinnamon and Clove Shower Steamers.  You put them in the shower and they release their essential oils, to help you relax into the steam of the shower is what I was told.  Oh, I say, like a bath fizz? My son loves those.  No, no you can’t use them like that. 

Well these Verikira beauties looked pretty and sounded interesting, this was the last pack they had so I assumed that meant they were popular, they were originally $24 – so I bought them.  Big disappointment.  They are exactly like bath fizzes without the fizz.  I followed the instructions, started the shower, let it get steamy, unwrapped said ball and placed it in the back of the shower – DH and I popped into the shower, within 5 minutes it was dissolved (it was not in the direct stream but water does hit the back of the shower at certain times) and there was very little aromatherapy going on – literally you couldn’t smell it.  What a bust! I’ve tried it two more times with little difference – the only note was that I forgot to tell DH I stuck the ball in the shower, he got in and nearly knocked himself out as he slipped on it and fell into the shower wall – what that was a laugh but not worth the $15 – at least I didn’t shell out $24.  The spa attendant said they were simply no longer carrying this line, but the products were still good – maybe she lied and these had an expiration date.

Not to be one to shop lightly I also spied a Verikira Fresh Foot Creme, pretty small container and hefty regular price tag at $26 but my dogs have been barking lately – literally as I put on my workout pants the underside of my feet stick to the inside – if you have dry feet you know how utterly disgusting this is.  So I decide to pick up a bottle – it made a weird rattling noise, so I asked if it was something that had to be shaken before use – No, that’s just the spring in the pump moving.  Took this home, again a bit miffed.  I went to pump a little out, thing emulsified thoughts, and out splurges a milky white liquid – I will say it was pungent. I shook it several times and even unscrewed the pump and attempted a stir of sorts – wound up with a little bit thicker liquid – but not much – more like gravy.  So me and my $16 Verikira foot gravy have been getting acquainted this last week and it is all you can smell when you enter the master bedroom. Feet still sticking to the sheets so I may give this to DH to try, he gets nasty feet!

Oh, now I must laugh – after the way he went on and on about being the only celebrity in the Big Brother house with his own cooking show – mind you I am envisioning something along the lines of Emeril or even Rachel Ray – I was shocked to see that it seems to be just a YouTube vlog show.

Skip ahead to 4:23 to start the Latoya Section.  If you haven’t seen this BB you need to – everything Latoya does sounds pornographic – riding the bull, licking the gentleman’s paste of the window, everything.

I’m not sure that the local graduating HS class considers their breast implants medical devices – like you would a pace maker, or dialysis machine.  I went on a trip and met a mother last year whose daughter graduated from the same local HS I did, she said the number one gift for grads was Breast Implants, right behind a new car.  Interesting – not sure why an 18 year old need silicone boobs so early in life, unless that’s the gift you give to a girl you know isn’t going to make it far in college and you are getting her ready for her new life as “Bambi” at the local strip club.

This photo is not of a local lady – that I know of- she is the Guinness Record holder for largest Breast Implants.  Looking at this photo makes me think two things 1) ouch 2) what are the straps of that bra made of and why aren’t we using that material to hold up bridges?

I was floored, it was the most awesome gesture I have experienced in a long time.  She refused to take any payment- Organic Cotton – adorable, and DS was born in 2008.  I can only hope that some one else in the area will read this review, realize what a wonderful woman Shannon is and stop by her new location on Jefferson Ave, right behind the draperies store and next to the little walkway with the iron sculptures of children jumping rope (very fitting).  Check out this less fussy baby – I think the soft new clothing helped in relax!

A Simple Life

We were in Office Depot yesterday, store closing, looking for deals.  There was one flat screen left and it was televising the inauguration when son walked by.  It was the portion where the President and First Lady are walking to the White House, with millions clamoring around them and DS7 points to the screen “Look, it’s Mr. Obama!” I correct him, President Obama, yes. “Why are there police everywhere?” Because he’s the President of the United States. “Why are there army men everywhere.” Because he’s the President. “Why are they there though”. Because he’s an important man, I’m starting to think daily Homeschool Civics Class is in order. “Can we watch this? I want to see him.”  I have to admit, I got misty eyed and wanted to watch too.The conversation continues into a crazy seven year old breakdown of how he would protect the President, etc.  that I won’t get into because I don’t want to use words that may get us on a watch list…

Now this is not the first or last time he wants to talk about the President or look at him. Yesterday we are in the grocery line and every magazine has the President on the cover – one touting a White House baby (I swore the First Lady looked pregnant during the inauguration.  I’m great at guessing these things) – and he starts grabbing them off the racks, “Look! It’s President Obama! I want to read about him.” DH suggests he picks up People Magazine instead of some tabloid because it would have more to read DS7 replies, “I mean I’m going to look at the pictures of Obama.” He can read, but doesn’t relish it.

The recent article about a girls’ basketball team that won 100 to 0 asking for a forfeit because they are shamed by their win disgusts me.  I understand that the school they beat has small classes, only a handful of girls and strives to help kids with short attention spans/dyslexia but they are obligated to provide real life situations for these kids, get them ready for immersion into adult life – not coddle them. Everyone can’t be a winner – and if you win with grace, there’s nothing wrong with that.  In their prime The Bulls led the league in scoring with a 105.2 average, and in 1956 the biggest NBA margin of victory – Minnesota Lakers-133, St. Louis Hawks-75 – neither was declared to be in need of an apology. Ike Nwamu and Deuce Bello of Westchester Country Day School pull off a designed double alley-oop in a recent high school game and they are all over YouTube – not apologizing or forfeiting to the other team because they have skill.

Is this in part because the players are female? Has society taught even young female athletes who are breaking boundaries to remain coy, humble and apologetic in the face of male counterparts who behave after a win in an unsporting like manner (not all males – just some).

I applaud the young ladies for thinking of the esteem of their peers – but honestly it almost seems worse to bring to light and public the fact that you felt a team was so crappy and you did so well, that they had no chance of winning – that you need to declare your win a forfeit instead – I see it as a slap in the face to the other team.

The ticket agent claims that a man asked about security because he “had a gun” then allowed the man to walk away, possibly boarding the train – couldn’t remember if a ticket was sold to the gun toting stranger – asks around if police ask security questions, then calls the police department because the agent was so rattled by the question. Train takes off and makes it to Lisle.  Here’s my question – if you are so startled/ worried would you let this train leave the station with an armed man on it?  I wouldn’t.  I would have immediately radioed – called – whatever, the conductor and had the trained stopped for “difficulties” in the station.  By the time they made it to Lisle if this man (turns out Secret Service agent who properly ID’ed self – read the article – I think his story his far more plausible) wanted to, he could have shot several cars full of passengers.

DH loves to get real and not so pressing news online.  He read this one to me, of course in first person which made me do a double take thinking that he was coming clean about some dirty secret – nope, still as vanilla as the day I married him – he was just relating this most recent Second Life ridiculousness. You can read all about how this 26 year old came to be an online Second Life Skank – (I use the term as one of endearment) – how she once tried to be a real life escort and didn’t accept any “dates” as she put it because she was too selective – nope I think maybe you have a jaded view of being a prozzie if you think they go on “dates”? It is an interesting read, especially if you read between the lines – someone may need a little help, therapy, or a real life boyfriend – I mean there is such as thing as role playing – even me and DH do it – and I don’t mean Dungeons and Dragons.

“Mommy, a chocolate chip got under the bed, I tried to clean it up but it was melted, so it smeared.”

I asked him where is it? He points to the edge of the bed.  So I ask DH to take a look and pick the chip up, he leans down under the bed, reaches for the supposed chip and says, it all smeared into the carpet I can’t pick it up.

DS looks at me with doe eyes, “I think you are going to be mad,  you are both going to be mad, I should tell you something but you’ll be mad, but I shouldn’t lie…”

Out with it little man, you won’t be in trouble.  “Not in front of daddy, he’ll be mad.”

So whisper in my ear, tell mommy – it will be fine.

“It wasn’t a chocolate chip.”

Ok, what was it.

“Not a chocolate chip”

We established that, what was it?

“A little ball of poop. It just fell out, and rolled under the bed. I tried to find a towel to clean it up, I did.  It just fell out and rolled under the bed, I couldn’t stop it.”

I broke out in hysterical laughter, at the image of a little ball of poop falling out of goodness only knows (I mean I know, but come on) and rolling under the bed and then DH touching it.

I tell DH he better wash his hands, “Why? Was that POOP?!?” I tell him we aren’t discussing it, but he better thank his lucky starts he isn’t like me and my mother, we stick everything in our mouths to check what it is – he always makes fun of us for this. I laughed for about 20 minutes trying to figure out how the poop ball got out of his pants, and how it rolled under the bed and then became smooshed in the carpet.

This morning it still gave me a laugh – of course I wasn’t laughing while cleaning the carpet.

Can this get anymore bizarre? I think I should get a bailout – why not send $1 million to each American home – that would stimulate the economy – putting money in the hands of consumers instead of the pockets of CEOs who then give themselves a much needed vacation and raise – and buy themselves multi million dollar condos in Manhattan – sheesh!
