Award winning British designer Lee Broom collaborated with Madonna to create a bespoke version of his signature 2015 Crystal Tube Light, a cut-glass, handcrafted piece adapted to a longer-than-standard, two metre version to illuminate the One Step Away kitchen scene in Confessions II – The Film, directed by TORSO and produced by Division.

Wallpaper magazine published today and intriguing story by Lisa Wright filled with in-depth details about the design and production process – check it out here. Thanks to the article, we now know that the One Step Away scene was filmed in a locked down location in London.

Together with the full design analysis – which gives you a clear idea of how much work, research and passion has been infused in the film – Broom shared with Wallpaper a few more personal things about Madonna.

I was thrilled. Growing up, I really appreciated her artistry not just as a musician but as a visionary, a spokesperson for LGBTQ+ rights, and an all-round blueprint for the pop industry. I grew up in theatre and then went into fashion, so performance, art, fashion, design all infiltrated my work. An artist like Madonna who has a sort of performative storytelling, pushing-the-envelope quality to their work – I was completely sucked in.

When you talk specifically about the design industry, it’s a very loose, open word, but it’s actually very specific. (…) It’s restricted in a way, and I feel like the general public who aren’t in that industry sometimes find it difficult to connect with what we’re producing. So when you have an opportunity to insert your work and your vision into something as globally iconic and as popular as a Madonna music video or film, it opens it up into a different ether that people aren’t used to.

For my 16th birthday, I remember getting my mother to buy me Madonna’s SEX book. She got her friend Audrey, who worked next door to Waterstones, to queue up in the morning and buy it, neither of them knowing exactly what the content of the book was. It was literally the best birthday present I’ve ever had, even though she wasn’t so happy when she actually got to see what was inside…

As the excitement around Confessions II reaches a fever pitch, Absolut turns up the heat with spicy new cocktails inspired by the energy, attitude, and unapologetic spirit of the new Madonna album.

Madonna is entering a bold new era with Confessions II, and Absolut is joining as the album’s official vodka partner. The Queen of Pop herself explains the new partnership:

On Friday, June 26 Graham Norton will welcome the incomparable Madonna in a world exclusive special for BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
Recorded at the legendary Koko in Camden, London – the stage that hosted Madonna’s first-ever UK show in 1983 as well as the launch of her landmark 2005 album, Confessions on a Dance Floor – the programme will see Graham meet with Madonna for an intimate, in-depth discussion about her incredible life and celebrated career. Ahead of the release of her much-anticipated new album Confessions II on July 3rd, this rare interview promises to be an unmissable television event.

Madonna & Graham will be broadcast on BBC One on June 26 at 10.40 PM and on BBC Radio 2 on Saturday, July 4 from 6 to 8 PM. Both programmes will be available on BBC iPlayer and BBC Sounds for 30 days after transmission.

During the interview, Madonna looks back on her early days in New York, reflects on her enduring relationship with the UK, discusses her most recent performance at Coachella, and much more. Madonna has released the breathtaking Bring Your Love (Stuart Price Afterhours Mix) to the digital platforms.

First heard as one of the three songs from Confessions II performed at the Live in NYC event in Times Square last week, the remix features Madonna’s vocals only and serves as the soundtrack of both the end credits of Confessions II – The Film and the promotional campaign for KIKO Milano.

Instantly loved by the fans on first listen, the inclusion of the Stuart Price remix at the end of Confessions II – The Film left everybody craving and hoping for a full release, a wait that ended today (why physical singles are not in vogue anymore, by the way?).

Bring Your Love is the second track from Confessions II to receive an official remix treatment, following the Peggy Gou Energy Mix for Madonna’s I Feel So Free released one month ago.

New versions of both I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love were also recently released on the Promo Only service Alternative Club, both based on the album version mix with more club-friendly intros and outros.
These two songs had their own radio edit version also available on the promotional networks last month, with Love Sensation being the only track from Confessions II so far to have a radio edit officially released.

In related news, Bring Your Love has reached the top of the Italian radio chart compiled by EarOne, the official partner of FIMI – Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana.
In week 24 – its sixth on the chart – Bring Your Love goes up 5 to 1. This week the hit by Madonna & Sabrina also tops the EarOne Airplay Dance, one spot up in its fifth week on the chart, and is also number 1 on the EarOne International Airplay, the list ranking the most-listened international hits on the Italian radio. The songs moves up 2 to 1 on its sixth week on this chart.

Considered as the official radio chart for Italy, EarOne compiles the rankings detecting airplay spins on radio station nationwide, processing airplay data using a system that monitors the broadcast outputs of over 150 national and local Italian radio stations in real-time.

Christian Allaire on the American Vogue talks with longtime Madonna stylist Rita Melssen about how she worked together with the Queen of the Dance Floor to cultivate her Confessions II wardrobe, explaining how the main inspiration for her club-ready attire is – unsurprisingly- Madonna herself.

Melssen dug into Madonna’s own personal archives – a work that she started a few years ago when she was in charge of the Celebration Tour costumes together with Eyob Yohannes – and brought back iconic pieces from the original Confessions on a Dance Floor era (yes, that’s 20 yeara ago) and combined them with new custom garments. She tells Vogue:

The idea was to create a woman who just never stopped dancing. She’s been on the dance floor this whole time: the dance floor is where her heart beats, and where everything happens.

For the Times Square performance in collaboration with Grindr, Madonna brought back her now-legendary silver Frida Giannini-era Gucci jacket, paired with custom Dolce corsetry, Swarovski jewelry, vintage Dior sunglasses and silver Saint Laurent boots, also from Madonna’s own archive. Melssen explains:

“We started by looking at what she has, what she’s worn, and what she hasn’t. Those YSL boots have been tried and true for her for a really long time. She’s very organized, and those pieces are very important to her. It’s not just clothing – they’re part of her history, and it has defined moments in her career.”

For Confessions II – The Film, Melssen aimed to more pop royalty-worthy look, with each scene having a distinct fashion feeling to it; the ensembles were all brought to life by Dolce & Gabbana, and if watching the film different times (as you’ve already done by now) is not enough, the article on Vogue will delight you with fantastic backstage pictures of the various looks shot by the one and only Ricardo Gomes.

“We really looked at it as a film, and understanding what her character would be. Each scene had its own distinct style and feeling that was reflected also in the clothes.”

This is how the custom PVC dress was created by Dolce & Gabbana  for Good for the Soul; Madonna tops it with a vintage light pink shrug from Dolce spring 1998, straight from her own archive.

During One Step Away, Madonna performs choreography on top of a table; even if she’s wearing unbranded shapewear, this moment is one of Melssen’s favourites.

“It was really stripped, and there was something beautiful about that. I love the glamour and the drama—but also when she’s vulnerable and simple, and it’s just her.”

In Bring Your Love Madonna sports a Dolce crystal bustier from fall 1991 also from her own archive.

“That moment was about being a full-on pop star and saying, ‘I’m here and I’m the queen.”

She changes into a satiny light-blue Dolce club dress, with opera gloves to match for Danceteria.

“It was a custom color, to match her Ray of Light album cover. She was wearing Dolce on that cover, too, so it felt fun.”

The fashion-filled film is not the only Madonna fashions we will be getting a glimpse at this month, Melssen tells Vogue. With a full month lead-up to the album, we can expect many more appearances and performances with the dance-ready clothes to match. “[Madonna] totally understands the significance of wardrobe,” she explains.

“She knows that what you wear has everything to do with the feeling of what you’re trying to create.”

And then there are those rumors about a tour, too. “Just expect more and more,” teases Melssen.

“This is just the start.”

On Thursday, 4 June Madonna made history, delivering an electrifying live performance in front of a record-breaking crowd of 50,000, giving the world a taste of three tracks from Confessions II – including never-heard before remixes of I Feel So Free and Bring Your Love – this one was performed as a Madonna-only version – and the first listening of Love Sensation.

Just thirty minutes after announcing the surprise show in the Grindr app, Madonna took over Times Square, stepping onto stage wearing a Dolce & Gabbana corset and ensemble. In addition to the new music, she performed three classics from the original Confessions on a Dance Floor album: Get Together, I Love New York and Hung Up.

• Love Sensation – single release

Just a buch of minutes before Madonna took the stage at The Square, the third song from Confessions II was released by Warner Records on the streaming platforms worldwide.

Love Sensation is available digitally in two versions:

1. Love Sensation (3:48)
2. Love Sensation – Radio Edit (3:02)

As of now a text-free version of the 16-track album artwork is used for the song which doesn’t come with its own cover. Love Sensation is also the first song from Confessions II to have its radio edit released to the general public; both the radio edits of I Feel So Free (3.00) and Bring Your Love (2:51) remain promo-only as of now.

• Tribeca Festival World Premiere

The event that was announced with the longest advance notice – something unusual in this era as you’ve all realized by now – the World Premiere of Confessions II – The Film at The Tribeca Festival took place at The Beacon Theater in NYC on Friday night.
A few hours before the premiere, Madonna herself announced that the movie was going to be realesed on YouTube for everyone to see on Monday, June 8 at 11 AM ET, so it wasn’t hard to remain spoiler free, although the conversation with Madonna and the film directors TORSO hosted by Anderson Cooper (who stepped in instead of Jimmy Fallon last minute) that followed the screening was full of insightful information about this one project and the other ones Madonna is looking forward to was something not to miss.

To add even more excitement, yesterday Interview Magazine published exclusive photos from the premiere by Alex Antonioni & Ricardo Gomes, giving the fans a look at what happened inside an event that required everyone to store their electronic devices – cameras included – in Madame X-style Yondr pouches.

The caption of the opening photo in the article by Ary Russell also lets us know that on the night Madonna was wearing Gucci Primavera silver seamless jersey embroidered tank dress, Generation Gucci ivory shearling coat, sunglasses and all over crystals high heel Gucci pumps. While some of us were hoping to use the last few hours before the general release of Confessions II – The Film to quietly recover from the Times Square and Tribeca buzz, Madonna herself started to boost it up with a clever invention that made this release unique in yet another way: a series of Instagram-ready cards showing part of the movie cast started appearing online, promplty reposted by Madonna in her stories.

It is impossible not to reserve a special mention to the amazing work of the choreographers who worked to blend the images to the music in a masterful way, starting with main choreographer and longtime Madonna collaborator Damien Jalet, YBOG for the Good For The Soul choreography, rave choreographer Megan Lawson, rave scene movement director Nicolas Huchard and choreographer assistants Sierra Herrera, Zoe Hollinshead and Matt Cady.

Madonna’s Confessions II Short Film Is a Phantasmagoric Disco Dream

By the time the song titles flash on screen, Confessions II – The Film starts to feel like little more than a highlight reel for the album, which is exactly what music videos were originally conceived to be. Madonna helped revolutionize the format during MTV’s nascent years, wielding it not just a marketing tool but an extension of the music itself. But interest in conventional videos has dwindled in recent years in favor of 30-second TikTok reels—even Taylor Swift’s latest video has only amassed six million views on YouTube in two months—so while each of the segments in Confessions II – The Film would make for a dazzling standalone video, Madonna seems to be asking, why bother?

• The KIKO Show

And now a partnership that we probably didn’t see coming even if we should have – since all the clues were there: Madonna was announced as the new KIKO Milano Global Ambassador on June 8.

Madonna has been using cosmetics from the #1 makeup brand in Italy since a while, and last month Marcelo Gutierrez – her make up artist who you got to know a little closer in the Grindr Presents: Confessions with… Madonna video last month – was appointed as the company’s first Global Makeup Artistry Creative Director.

Furthermore, at the beginning of May KIKO Milano announced plans to expand its presence in the U.S. through a new retail partnership with Macy’s, with a national rollout starting June 6 at Macy’s Herald Square in NYC.

As we can see clearly now, the project doesn’t come exactly out of the blue.

It does, on the contrary, land on Madonnaplanet at a time when the hype around the Confessions II film is at its best, showing once more that what we are experiencing live is not a traditional campaign for a new record launch, but a mission to let Madonna rule the world once again. KIKO Milano celebrated their new Global Brand Ambassador with a party at Macy’s Herald Square on Monday night.
Honey Dijon was on the decks and The Kiko Girl herself showed up in the dee-jay booth and danced to some of her tracks, including Dijon’s remix of Phisical Attraction!

Madonna steps in her new role of 29-year-old Kiko Milano as the Italian brand’s second-ever global ambassador with “The Kiko Show”, WWD.com reports today.

The new campaign is set to an exclusive Stuart Price remix of Bring Your Love and shows the Queen of Pop shifting through different beauty personas. It also marks the arrival of Kiko Milano to three Macy’s locations, including the Herald Square flagship store in New York City, where the brand’s presence will include boldly colored displays, makeup services and product engraving stations.

Earlier today Kiko Milano posted a Reel serving as a teaser of the new collaboration with the caption:

Chief Brand Officer Drew Elliot is quoted by WWD explaining that “Kiko Milano is a powerhouse brand, and it deserves a powerhouse face. Madonna is that person: she has Italian roots; she’s known for reinvention, for boldly being exactly who she is — and, many times, using makeup to do that. She is the Kiko girl.”

Back in May, Kiko Milano – Italy’s number-one makeup brand – named Marcelo Gutierrez – who you all know for being Madonna’s MUA – as its first Global Makeup Artistry Creative Director to lead the brand globally artistry across product development, campaigns, and trend innovation and to guide celebrity collaborations, cultural moments and educational programming.

Elliot said that they were “proud to welcome Marcelo to Kiko Milano at such a transformative moment for the brand. His unique creative vision, combined with a modern understanding of beauty culture, will play a fundamental role in sharpening our make-up identity worldwide.”

“I am incredibly excited to join Kiko Milano as Global Makeup Artistry Creative Director. I am looking forward to contributing to this next chapter and helping inspire creativity and confidence worldwide,” Gutierrez said at the time.
