Although my blog is listed on the front page of the search engine results page (SERP) — at least from where I google, it fares the poorest among all blogs in the SERP as it is at the bottom.

As this blog has gained enough backlinks to make it to the front page, the main reason why it has dropped to the bottom is because of the lack of entries as of late.

For your information, the latest entry I have added before this is dated back to October 30, which was ten days ago!

Therefore right now, I’m gonna do an experiment to prove that having enough backlinks is insufficient. On top of that, constantly adding entries will keep you on top of the game.

As experts always say, content is king.

This post will be published at approximately 11.20pm, which is also the time where this blog maintains at the bottom position of the SERP.

Once this post is indexed, I’m gonna check back its position, and we’ll see if it shoots up or not.

For that ding dong who stole my camera, I bet you won’t be able to take good photos for the rest of your life! Hahah, so funny to the thought of that.

I still have not made up my mind on what brand of camera I should buy. It’s frustrating because there are 1000 brands out there with respective strengths and weaknesses and when you are on limited budget, all brands seem like the same to you and none is better then another.

Unless you fork out RM3k to buy a bloody DSLR lah!

Just when I thought I have saved enough money to purchase a PDA phone, it now needs to be allocated for a new camera instead.

Just now as I cycled pass Westlake, I saw a rainbow for the first time in half a year, sitting beautifully in front of the range of Kampar mountains. It was dusk, with weak sunlight shimmering through the dark, heavy clouds (it was about to rain).

And from the place I was cycling, a phenomenal wreck of white seabirds were seen happily hovering across the sky in a circular motion, for repeated times! Underneath the seabirds was the Westlake, which reflected a fiery orange glow of the evening sun.

And it made me think: maybe this is a place where I want to settle down, have a family, and live happily after ever.

HAHHAHAHAHHA!

And I told myself if I didn’t stop hallucinating, I would end up in Tanjung Rambutan soon!

But that is not the point. The main point is that because of that ding dong who stole my camera, I had missed the greatest chance to capture a phenomenon you don’t get to see everyday.

Sucks to the max!

When I posted about site having successfully cracked into Alexa’s Top 100,000 Ranking, some skeptic commentator asked how it can help me to make money online since it is losing its relevance.

When I saw that question, it made me think for a while. Yes, he has his point: that Alexa is not as relevant as it was before as many have challenged its ranking accuracy and credibility using the Alexa Toolbar.

Although Alexa has later announced a complete redesign and new metrics, it is still getting a bad rap on the issue.

Whatever it is, Alexa is still useful to me due to the following reasons:

Although it would be superficial to compare two sites and jump to conclusions by saying which site is more popular, you can figure out if a site has visitors or not.

Big companies might not give a damn about Alexa ranking, but many small advertisers still take into account Alexa stats, among others. This is especially relevant to this site as it is still at the growing stage of the product life cycle (see graph below) and is most relevant to such small advertisers.

If you get a better Alexa ranking, the chances are that you might get more clients for advertising. Besides, if you combine Alexa stats with Pagerank (PR), number of backlinks and indexed pages, as well as Search Engine Results Page (SERP) performance, you can fathom out how a site fares.

Simply put, Alexa ranking is a symbolic reflection of where your site is currently. To me it doesn’t improve my traffic just because I have cracked into the top 100,000, but it is an indication of my improvement and success.

Most importantly, it makes me feel good about the effort I have poured into building this site.

Alexa might not be the most important and accurate tool, but it is certainly useful, at least to me.

And this just proves to me one thing:

That I can’t take on so many commitments at once.

Sad hor? That I would like to do that much yet I’m only human and have limitation.

Just for the sake of sharing and not complaining, I have been worried and busy with preparation because my Master’s proposal defense is approaching!

On top of that I’m reading up and getting ready with the subject to tutor during the coming semester, preparing for a seminar at the end of this month and helping my HOD out in some MQA documentation.

On a less stressful note, me and my colleague on one fine evening went to explore the lakeside garden along Westlake, Kampar and look what we discovered (oklah, I sound like we had discovered Guang Yin Niang in the garden but it was more like the beauty of nature we found):

Like. Heaven.

Suddenly a huge memorial stone with poems of three languages on it. Next time shall ask Catea to come here to recite the poems to our Prof. Chuah.

In the photos below you can actually see a part of UTAR campus. How awesome would it be if they built a bridge to connect the campus and the garden hor?

I bet half the class would be dating away at the garden when they are supposed to attend my class…!

I always bring along my camera wherever I go, and most of the times I have managed to capture nice shots of the fast-changing scenery here. Because of some of the great shots I’ve taken, everyone starts claiming I’m a good photographer. WTH.

The following are some of the Westlake ~~hostels~~ houses, all of which are given all sorts of glamorous names depending on the respective structures: Yale, Manchester, Tsing Hua, Oxford.

Anyway, me and another colleague went for dinner at a famous food court at Old Town, Kampar and saw a char kueh tiaw stall where the uncle SAT on a tiny stool frying kueh tiaw using charcoal. Can you believe that???

Finally, a get-together at Foh San restaurant in Ipoh with colleagues and former gurus. Sometimes it gives me a sense of irony and weird feelings how some of my former lecturers are now my colleagues.

But on top of that, it is great to be able to meet and work with them again because they are the people I always look up to!

Can you exist virtually?

It’s a small town almost as humble as Kuching, where I hail from.

Kampar.

As an experiencer, I get easily thrilled and culture shocked over new stuff. While some of my students are calling me crazy for loving a small town like this, I think they’re crazy for not even liking it!

We might not have a cinema here, or a shopping center up to par with those in KL.

But we have got unpolluted air, pretty scenery, several lakes to fish at, modern campuses of UTAR and KTAR, nice food, Gua Tempurung, and a few hot springs here.

Okay, maybe I should stop being such a preacher already. It’s really sad to have to nag like Kanye West.

Over the weekend, which was also my Raya break, I decided to cycle all the way from the new town of Kampar (where UTAR and my place are located at) to the old town to shoot some footages for my first short film — or documentary film to be exact — this year.

Why are they described in such a cute way?

By the way, my agent, who deals with the landlord, has not provided us with a set of sofa yet despite having promised she would get us one, and that is a little frustrating.

What is the use of having a TV set without a sofa leh?

But frankly speaking, I would rather the landlord sponsors us a grill or some barbecue tools instead because this university town seems to be a great place for barbecue activities.

The growing number college and university students here tend towards outdoor leisure activities compared to those from the city.

There is an empty land opposite out house and for the past few weeks, I saw students barbecuing at the open area. This is something I don’t even get to see in Kuching, where people claim it “ulu”.
