Is a free premium like theme full of features. It comes with two color schemes - Wordpress Times Dark Magazine and Wordpress Times White (Bright) Magazine. The color scheme can be configured from the admin panel.

How to display adsense ads using the widgets?

If you have tried displaying text widgets by now, a bell would probably ring in your head. The text widgets accept javascript, and the adsense codes are javascript based.

Here is a step by step instructions to insert your adsense code using widgets in Wordpress.

1. Login to your Wordpress Dashboard.
2. Click on Appearance and proceed with Widgets
3. Open the widget place where you would like your adsense code to appear (Sidebar, Footer… any area that is widgetized
4. Add a text widget to the area
5. For title use Google Ads, Sponsors… anything similar that won’t break the adsense tos (terms of service)
6. In the text area paste your adsense code
7. Hit Done, Save and you are done. After a couple of minutes you will see the ads in the widgetized area

It is used by many premium (example: revolution from studio press) themes as a built in function.

However, it can create problems if you are trying to show an excerpt of a post in the sidebar, when you are previewing a post in a single post view.

I was struggling with it, but finally coded out a perfect solution. You can use the following code:

Instead of posting

<?php the_content_limit(100,"Read more &rarr;");?>

Use

This function will check if you are previewing a post in a single view mode, if so, it will create a custom excerpt similar, if not the same as php the_content_limit(100, “more”).

Whenever i tried to upload images via the Post/Page section, Firefox crashed! Do note that this was not the case while trying to upload images trough the media panel - that worked perfectly as it should.

I tried restarting firefox and installing new wordpress blogs locally, but the problem was still here.

The solution

Is very simple. It is a conflict caused by the Google Gears Firefox plugin and Wordpress.

While your firefox browser is on, click on Tools and then Add Ons. Select Google Gears addon and disable it. 99% of the time this will fix your problem.

Oh do note that you will need to restart Firefox after disabling the plugin so the problem will stop.

Alternatively, if you don’t want to disable Google Gears plugin, you can always use Google Chrome or any other browsers for writing your posts.

It can be done using a very simple technique, no javascript or flash required. It will work in all major browsers (We will just use the IE6 CSS PNG fix - easy hack).

What are we going to do? Please refer to the image below:


How is this achieved?
Simply by adding a span element in our paragraphs and headings. Well, if we are going to use this in a paragraph which will normally contain a lot of words, it won’t be readable, so in this tutorial we will focus just on headings.

How can we apply the gradient?

First, we need to use a very simple html markup

<h1><span></span>Our heading</h1>

And apply a 1 pixel wide gradient background (with alpha transparency) on the span. Remember, the gradient color must be the same as the background in order this to work.

The css markup (The key is placing position:relative; on the heading, and position:absolute; on the span which is located inside the heading)

How to make it work for ie6?

We will need to use the microsoft alpha loader hack. In the head section of your html page, type in the following code

But what if you automatically want to insert those ads after certain paragraph inside the post, so you won’t bother placing those ads manually when writing your posts.

It’s a bit tricky part, but luckily can be done using the php explode function.

How to insert ads after certain paragraph?

When writing a new post, be it from the visual or html tab, when you press enter, wordpress automatically opens a new paragraph and closes the already opened one. Alternatively, another function can be used to display the add after certain amount of characters, but here i will show you a way to display them after your prefered number of paragraphs.

1. Open your single.php file from your template
2. Look for
3. Replace that function with the codes shown bellow

This function will insert the add after the first paragraph. Change the number to whatever you think will probably work for you - i am currently displaying the ads after the 5th paragraph.
Do note: If you set the ads to be shown after the 5th paragraph, and your post is shorter than 5 paragraphs, the ads won’t be displayed.

It can be achieved by adding a loopcounter to the loop.

How to insert adsense adds after the first post?

At first, you will have to locate the Wordpress loop most probably in your index.php file of the template you are using. Optionally that can be any loop located in your theme’s template files ( home.php , category.php or custom loops )

Locate the loop, it will look like this:

Now, create a file named add.php or adsense.php (you can use any name you want) and place the add code inside of it.

We should now add the loopcounter in the wordpress loop to display our add after the first post.
