UPDATE: The NASTAR Tailgate will be Saturday, February 27th at 1:30pm in the North Face Parking Lot.  All MVSC members are invited to join in the fun.

The teams have been selected and the registration is closed.  There are five (5) Teams, as there were five (5) Platinum recipients, and a total of 31 MVSC racers. Each Team began with a Platinum Medal recipient, then each Team received three (3) Gold Medal recipients, then Silver, then Bronze, then Participant (racer who did not Medal) .

Scoring:
Platinum= 5pts
Gold= 4pts
Silver= 3pts
Bronze= 2pts
Participation= 1pt

There are four (4) weeks of Participation. The three (3) best of the four (4) possible Medal scores will be counted for each racer. And the Team with the Highest Total will be the Winner.

All are invited to participate in the MVSC NASTAR Team Compeition. Race the NASTAR course every weekend in February. A weekend constitutes either racing on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday(when open). Your BEST MEDAL will be counted toward your team score. Teams will be posted when picked, and balanced based on performance.

Scores should be posted shortly after each weekend is completed.

Teams of 4-6 will race across the entire mountain to 8 designated checkpoints. First team to collect a photo with all team members in front of all 8 check points, and makes it back to the rally point first wins.

Sign up in the North Face parking lot from 10:30-11:00am at the rally point. Race starts at 11:15am.

The Sign In and Rally point is the at the MVSC tailgate location. See the map below.

Return to the Tailgate around 1pm for beverages, food (hot dogs and hamburgers) and announcement of the prizes!

Entry Fee: $5 per person

Side note: We designed this race to test your knowalage of the mountain, skiing skills, teamwork and social skills (since you have to ask other people to take your picture).  Maps with the 8 checkpoints and rules will be provided to the racers at sign-in.

RULES:
1. ALL RESORT RULES, AND SKIERS RESPONSIBILITY CODE APPLY.
2. All teams must have one digital camera (cell phone ok) to log all checkpoint pictures on.
3. Checkpoint pictures must contain all team members and the checkpoint number, which means you are going to need to ask someone to take your picture.
4. Checkpoints can be obtained in any order.
5. Once you reach the end rally point and have obtained all 8 checkpoints, end your time by taking a picture of a cell phone clock and the Ridgelines front license plate.
6. Winner will be the team with all 8 checkpoints, and has the earliest time stamp at the end rally point. All pictures on the digital camera must be in chronological order.

Prizes
1st place: 50% of the cash
2nd Place: 25% of the cash
3rd Place: Return of entry fee
Best Team Picture: Return of entry fee.

Even though it is an awesome photo, John is about 30 years too late.  Mt Washington is already claimed by MVSC’s Howard Engelberg.  Back on 1978, Howard went down Mt Washington under the Duquesne Incline.  According to the article, this treacherous path is filled with broken glass, sharp vines and a 15 foot cliff drop.  Luckly for Howard, it was also filled with two feet of fresh pow.  Check out a PDF of the article below for the full story.  It’s an great read.

MVSC Bus Trip to Wisp

Friday, February 12th, 2010

Meet at the bus at 6am at Seven Springs.  We will leave at 6:30am and return later that day.

Cost is $39.  ($20 for the Bus and $19 for the lift ticket).

Note: We got a special group rate of $19 for a lift ticket from an old friend of the club.  The regular rate for this day is $65 and Feb 12th is counted as a Holiday on Wisp’s schedule.  The cross-resort season pass free ticket is not valid on resort holidays.  I know that it is a bummer that we do not get the free ticket (please don’t call, I already did a million times), but $19 is a whole lot better than the regular group rate!

Thanks to our new chairs of the event, Dave and Darla Nauman, for putting on an awesome party!  Also, thank you to everyone who helped sign people in and brought food for the potluck.

Place: The pavilion just past and up to the right of the main snow tubing lodge.

Time: The event starts at 5pm, but we will be snowtubing from 6pm-8pm

Cost: $15 for members, $20 for non-members

We will have some food, hot chocolate, coffee and a bonfire.  Please feel free to bring a dish, this event has typically been a pot-luck.

The tubing park does not allow adult beverages, so bring your own supplies and keep it hidden.
