We are pleased to reveal the new album art for “Adelphophagia”, the second album released by Luder on Small Stone Records. We conceived of, designed and delivered a complete graphical package we’re very proud of.

Fall Open House

We had another great group exhibition at the Fulton Street Collective in Chicago on October 13th. We served as the show curators and enjoyed working with our collective mates to make the open house another success.

Car and Driver Magazine – iPad Edition

We are just finishing up the March 2011 issue of Car and Driver Magazine for iPad. This long-term project marks our ever-increasing focus on interactive design and how it relates to the future of media consumption. Car and Driver Magazine is committed to offering one of the best mobile user experiences on the market. More than just an e-reader version of a print magazine, the iPad edition is loaded with multiple levels of interactivity. It’s a true ‘hands-on’ experience.

Retouching: Luder Part 1

This will be the first post of many on the subject of photographic retouching and the broader subject of compositing, also referred to as photomontage.

Luder is a band comprised of Detroit rock veterans. We did the imaging and design for their 2009 release, Sonoluminescence. We have posted the CD design before, but we have not yet discussed the photo retouching that was so important to the overall design. This is one ‘before and after’ example. More will follow in future posts.

We shot the image outside in relatively neutral light. After loading the image into Photoshop, we knocked out the background, careful not to lose any detail from the figure. We placed the figure into a full resolution, square-format file. We added a sky image, some vector light rays and flares, and the unformatted text. All the elements were manipulated into one, cohesive image communicative of the concept we chose for the album.

A Mid-Summer’s Report

2010 started out somewhat abruptly when unexpected calls from clients came in, effectively booking our schedule for weeks on end during various stretches of the first and second quarters. One of us had a very busy season of presentation support for auto industry conferences and trade shows with a prime-time performance at SXSW jammed into the middle. The other managed the design of three web sites, the development of four, and the ongoing maintenance of nine, with a trip to SXSW jammed into the middle. One of us even worked in the art director’s crew for a Faye Dunaway movie last year.

New and expanded services for 2010 include:

e-covers for e-books with same-day turnaround
simplified, inexpensive web sites for those who do not need lots of fancy development
production designer/art director support for movie productions filming in Detroit and Chicago
Google Apps set-up and support for companies ready to take the leap

Lott3Metz Architecture Site

Earlier this year, we announced the impending launch of a site for Lott3Metz Architecture. Well, the site has been live for several weeks and is a great success.

The site was built on the WordPress platform so Lott3Metz could have full control of their own content using the powerful WordPress content management system (CMS). WordPress is widely known as one of the best possible solutions for blogging, but its flexibility allowed us to use it to build a full-function, dynamic business site.

Rossina Bossio Interview

We like to see our clients experience success while using media we built. Our friend Rossina Bossio, is a study in artistic prolificacy, as the pages upon pages of content in her MOCHIMAD-built site testify.

Rossina’s latest exhibition, currently showing at Gallery Grafiska Sällskapet in Stockholm, highlights a book that was born from her collaboration with Swedish artist, Jonna Bergelin.

Revista Neon, a magazine from Rossina’s Colombian homeland, interviewed her about the project and about her work in general. The interview contains footage from the making of two of the final pieces currently on exhibit.

Le Grande Bébé Rises Again

Friends of MOCHIMAD, Jonathan Haner and Teresa Holmberg, made a big baby again. Actually, not ‘a’ baby, but THE very same big baby Sue and Matt helped put up for ArtPrize 2009 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This time, the Jonathan and Teresa are showing Le Grande Bébé in Kristianstad, Sweden to coincide with the launch of their global, interactive art project entitled Armé des Enfants.

From their Armé des Enfants web site, you—or anyone so inclined—can acquire a little bébé to photograph in your own part of the world, then upload the results to your own personal bébé gallery.

MOCHIMAD has special affection for this project, even though it’s not our baby—I know, stop it. Joking aside, the experience we have in project management, online marketing and public relations can be put to work for you—fine artist, gallerist or agent alike.

Lott3Metz Architecture Site

MOCHIMAD was pleased to complete development on a new web site for Lott3Metz Architecture this week.

Developing from a design provided by Martin Cimek, we converted the look into a custom WordPress theme, enabling Lott3Metz to exploit the extremely adaptable WordPress platform. Though widely known by bloggers and blog readers around the world as a blog platform, we embedded WordPress’ Content Management System into a dynamic site without a typical blog appearance.
