Yahoo announced today that the Yahoo Messenger app for the iPhone has arrived. It is free of charge and can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store.

The app comes equipped with the following features:

Windows Mobile 7 release date could be set for early 2010. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer leaked the timetable on when consumers will receive the new operating system for smart phones.

Microsoft Corp CEO Steve Ballmer gave the word to financial analysts that a timetable for Windows Mobile 7 has already been set for early 2010. The news of the timetable comes about a week later when Ballmer presented Windows Mobile 6.5 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Ballmer, in his unpredictable manner, gave financial analysts the information during a forecast meeting in New York. Ballmer told the analysts about the timetable and when the new mobile software will launch. While this may surprise most, the company already stated in previous announcements that a newer version would ship with Windows 7.

Windows Mobile 7 might debut with Microsoft's new operating system for computers.

Windows 7 is the new Microsoft operating system which promises to deliver faster performance and features. Microsoft is trying to upgrade users and to drive home missing revenues from Vista. A large percent of Windows XP users did not upgrade to Vista over concerns of bug reports and hardware requirements.

The news of the timetable spread like wildfire among bloggers and Web sites. Critics are concerned that everything presented last week on Windows Mobile 6.5 is already obsolete. Furthermore, it is obvious that one insider at the meeting leaked the information to the public.

There are no specific details on the new smart phone operating system, but the company could start promoting it sometime in the fourth quarter.

Windows Mobile 7 details on what it will feature has not been released. Ballmer gave no specifics regarding the new mobile phone operating system during the meeting. However, if the new mobile OS is only six months away, then Microsoft will probably start promoting it sometime in the fourth quarter.

This could also mean that Windows 7 could launch within six months.

The Connections and Tariffs screen is used to select connections that you intend to monitor and assign their tariff plan. The tariff settings wizard is a straightforward process for configuring the connection tariff so that it can be calculated automatically.

The Export feature allows you to export data usage information to a file that can then be opened in a spreadsheet program such as Microsoft Excel. There's also the option of exporting the file to HTML or CSV format. A CSV file can be easily imported into Microsoft Excel, Access, and many other desktop applications.

The Today Settings plug-in allows you to view data usage information for a particular time on the Today screen. For each connection, total traffic and speed are displayed. Traffic may be calculated for current session, day, or month.

Python for S60 gives you the power and productivity of the Python programming language to the S60 platform. Its tools permit rapid application development, and the ability to create stand-alone S60 applications written in Python. The device installation package includes the Python interpreter (based on Python 2.2.2), select Python Standard Libraries, a script shell for launching Python scripts, many native extensions, and a Python Console for interactive development. Python for S60 can also be added to S60 SDK's for PC-based development, testing, and creating application installers. Basically we get a lot of new goodies with the new release and a few drawbacks.

Pros:
* Python 2.5.1 core. Yes, that means more modules and improved versions of the already existing ones will be available. This is very good when it comes to stability.
* Official packaging method. This is my personal favorite. The very useful Ensymble has been given a rather nice GUI which makes it easier to use.
* Better error handling. If the application raises an exception on start-up it doesn't just terminate silently but prints the traceback on the screen.
Cons:
* Much longer installation and start-up time. Really, you'll notice the difference. But like the thread says, this will be fixed.
* No support for S60 2nd Edition. Sadly, this part of the S60 family will no longer be supported now or in the future, because there are dependencies on OpenC libraries, which aren't available for 2nd Edition.
Notes:
* This release works on S60 5th Edition like the previous ones did, but it doesn't explicitly have any special features for it (like support for touch events).
* In a strange yet understandable way, the runtime isn't signed by Nokia with all capabilities like before. We only get the user-grantable set this time.
* Apparently PyS60 has moved from sourceforge and has a new home: https://garage.maemo.org/projects/pys60/
* The documentation no longer comes as a pdf file (at least this time it didn't) but as a much more comprehensive collection of HTML documents. I think this is better in pretty much every aspect.

Nokia Entering Laptop Market

Nokia's CEO, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, indicated that his company, the number one mobile phone manufacturer in the world, is considering entering the laptop market. Kallasvuo had the following comment about the future convergence of mobile phones and traditional computers:

"We don't have to look even for five years from now to see that what we know as a mobile phone and what we know as a PC are in many ways converging. Today we have hundreds of millions of people who are having their first Internet experience on the phone. This is a good indication."

As Reuters points out, it was only a week and a half ago that #3 PC maker Acer officially entered the smartphone market after having acquired smartphone maker E-TEN in March of 2008.

With Windows 7, Microsoft is gearing up to kick the operating system's mobile connectivity capabilities to the next level. The next iteration of the Windows client brings to the table a range of mobile broadband enhancements, which will see a strong support from a variety of Microsoft partners. The Mobile World Congress 2009 in Barcelona acted as the stage for more than just Windows Mobile-focused announcements, as Microsoft also made public a line-up of partners that had already pledged to support the native Windows 7 mobile broadband enhancements.
According to Microsoft, the following companies are ready to make sure that Windows 7 is embraced seamlessly by mobile broadband connections: Acer, Asus, Birdstep Technology, Dell, Ericsson, HP, Fujitsu Siemens Computers, Huawei Communications Technologies, Option, Qualcomm, Sierra Wireless, Smith Micro, T-Mobile International and ZTE.

“Windows 7’s Mobile Broadband enhancements give people a more reliable way to connect to the Internet using a wireless modem. Taking advantage of this feature is just like connecting to any other wireless network, and is done using the View Available Networks feature,” Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, revealed.

Microsoft initially demoed Windows 7 Mobile Broadband at the Windows hardware Engineering Conference in Los Angeles in early November 2008. And even at that time these partners were ready to jump aboard, since Sierra Wireless revealed that it would offer support for the enhancements since that particular moment. Via Windows 7 Mobile, Broadband users of the operating system will be able to take advantage of mobile broadband services turning to nothing more than the View Available Networks feature.

“A consistent experience for customers on top of a common infrastructure for partners to build off of enables several benefits including lower support, maintenance, deployment and management costs. It also allows partners to focus on higher-end services instead of having to focus on basic connectivity development,” LeBlanc added.

Huawei First Android Smartphone

Huawei Technologies showcased its first Android-powered smart phone at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

This smart phone will be commercially available in the third quarter of 2009. "Huawei is delighted to showcase its much anticipated first Android-powered smart phone.

Nokia Announce New Eseries Handsets

Nokia today unveiled two new additions to its Eseries range, the Nokia E75 and Nokia E55, which are the first to ship with the company's new email user interface. Both devices also come standard with Nokia Messaging that, when added to the company's corporate email clients, gives people the most efficient solution for accessing the world's consumer and corporate email on the go. In today's climate, the costs and benefits of technology are under closer scrutiny and email is an essential driver of efficiency and productivity.

"Efficiency is about doing more with less and focusing on what's truly essential," says Kai Oistamo, Executive Vice President at Nokia. "With direct access to Microsoft Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes, companies can potentially save up to a third of their operating costs as there's no need for middleware or additional servers."

With the latest Eseries devices, people will no longer need to boot up a PC to get a full desktop email experience. The enhanced email UI includes folder and HTML email support, expandable views and sorting capability by date, sender and size, as well as the most commonly used email functions just a single click away. On top of email, the devices also offer improved calendar capability, as well as contacts and task management.

"With the Nokia E75 we took a lot of inspiration from the Nokia 9300, which was our first mini communicator," adds Oistamo. "Owners of the Nokia 9300 loved the messaging functionality a full keyboard provided, but also used the traditional phone keypad a great deal. With the Nokia E75 we kept these essential ingredients, significantly upgraded all of the features and made it as compact as possible."

"When we launched the Nokia E71 last year, we really set a new standard for just how compact a full QWERTY device could be," continues Oistamo. "We have continued on this theme and have come back with the world's most compact messaging device, the Nokia E55." Sony Ericsson announces four new experia 1

SonyEricsson today announced in Barcelona that four new panels will be available for download in March 2009 to further enable Experia X1 users to customize their high-end Windows Mobile handset.

The four new Experia X1 panels are:

A new CNN panel which includes access to CNN’s popular citizen journalism tool ‘i-Report’. This panel allows users to browse info by category, personalise it or plug in your location and get instant updates.
A unique Skype panel which brings quick access to Skype, telling you who among your friends are currently online. You may also customize your handset using the evening, daylight or event based effects.
A new Mytopia panel meanwhile lets users play bingo and poker games with people around the world.
An ‘On the Road’ panel is for those who are always on the move. It features large touch icons and a simple layout that offer direct, quick access to music tracks and playlists, navigation tools and call-handling options.
The Experia X1 is pre-loaded with a wide range of panels including those for Google search. Facebook and Windows Live panels may be downloaded at the SonyEricsson website.

SonyEricsson says that nearly 420,000 panels have been downloaded onto Experia X1 handsets since it was introduced last year.
