The second stop for Sooo Pinoy Food Trip Day in Cebu is Shangri-la Resort and Spa Mactan Tide Restaurant. Shangri-la Mactan's Tide Restaurant is prime buffet table destination in the resort and in the Island. Shanri-la Mactan's Tide Restaurant Sous Chef Adolfo Lopez prepared to Sooo Pinoy a traditional Ilonggo dish that is offered mostly on speacial family occasions like Barrio Fiesta, birthdays or weddings.

Shangri-la Mactan's Pork Lau-ya, a boiled porked belly in local vegetables and spices is also a all time family favorite dish cook straight from Chef's Adolfo's mother recipe. To give you idea on how it taste, Tides Restaurant Pork Lau-ya is similar to Sinigang with sabaw or soup but only uses green mango to enhance its sour flavor.

The Food we cook and eat speaks about our heritage and culture. Thus, there's a need to nurture our local culinary arts that had been inherited from our ancestors.
The Sooo Pinoy Food Trip is the biggest food tour event in the country with more than 300 restaurants throughout Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are joining this endeavor. Soo Pinoy is a project spearheaded by Unilever Food Solutions, the food service arm of Unilever Philippines. Unilever Food Solutions (UFS) together with Department of Tourism (DOT) through its Tourism Promotions Board recently inks a MOA to promote local cuisine and tourism through the Sooo Pinoy Food Tour.

The Manna SuTuKil House Seafood variety

Sooo Pinoy Cebu Leg has started and the first restaurant at the Mactan Shrine area of Lapu Lapu City, Manna SuTuKil Seafood House showcases the foods that are part of Cebuanos prime cuisine served all year round. Since Visayan Islands are georaphically situated with bodies of water that are bounty with edible marine creatures, undeniably seafood speaks about the island of Cebu.

Su-Tu-Kil is a popular way of cooking or preparing seafoods in Mactan Island. "Su" stands for Sugba which means Grilled, a classic way of cooking using charcoals.

Beyond Bohol Tour, Eco-Adventure and Heritage Visit, Not the usual route

My Bohol Tour Day 1 is whelming that put me to thinking what my Day 2 & 3 will offer me. A Buffet Breakfast at The Saffron Restaurant in Amorita Resort start my day from a comfortable sleep in the resorts Deluxe View Villa. Deluxe Rooms at Amorita have fine furniture including a breakfast nook and daybed. It has his own controlled air-conditioning unit, a cable tv, a coffee & tea maker, mini bar refrigerator and safety deposit vault. Hairdryer is provided, with other resort room compliments. One thing I appreciate with Amorita Resort is their value to the Environment. They have these little "Environment - Friendly Advice" desktop reminders and options to help maintain green environment.

The very important meal - breakfast is done, first on our list for Day 2 is Balicasag Island Snorkeling and Introductory dive with Amorita’s dive concessionaire - Sea Explorers. Excited to plunge into the sea water - we attentively listen to the Master Diver from Sea Explorers and put in our dive shoes and life jacket, and brought our dive fins, dive mask with tempered glass and snorkel.
We had a snorkeling at the vicinity of Balicasag Island, we take about 90 minutes via motor banca or pumpboat vice versa from Alona Beach to Balicasag, we spent 35 minutes of snorkeling which adds our Bohol adventure into the sea. Balicasag has great coral formation and schools of fishes including a sea turtle or pawikan. We headed back to the resort, refreshens ourselves and convene for a sumptuous lunch.

Take this, Crispy Pork Binagoongan of Amorita Resort is a "must-try" piece, its a Lechon kawali vis-a-vis with layers of bagoong and kangkong plus the winner green mango, onions and tomatoes strips that compliments each other. Makes my mouth waters while editing this photo and writing this sentence. All of us agreed. Other menu served is Crispy Pork Sinigang, also a winner in taste. That, was, a perfect lunch! Now, I'm excited to the next item, its the Beyond Bohol Tour by Day offered by Amorita Resort.
Most of us who had been to the Province of Bohol did the usual Chocolate Hills in Carmen and Sagbayan Peak climbing, Tarsier watching, Loboc River Floating-Restaurant Launch with Rondallas & traditional dancers or the Hinagdanan Cave Experience. But Beyond Bohol Tour by Day is more than that.

Next stop is Dauis Jewelry Makers Organization which plays great part in the ancestral jewelry making handcrafts in Bohol. Just a stone-throw distance is The Nuestra Señora de la Asuncion church which houses the miraculous Mary's Well and Bohols's oldest "Baluarte" or watchtower at church's yard . In Dauis Pilgrim Heritage Center includes handumanan souvenir shop, Cafe Lawis and Terraza de Mariveles. We also drop at D' Original Osang's homemade pastries and 2nd oldest church in the country, The Baclayon Church in Tagbilaran City - See below if you can spot Pope Pius IX from one its foundation walls.

Such a wonderful heritage of Bohol, it is. Our last stop? Its the Catigbian Municipality GREAT Catigbian Adventure “Green Recreational Eco-Adventure Tour” in Catigbian's DATE Park “Dagook Adventure Tour Experience” . A travel time of almost 45 minutes from Tagbi, The Catigbian Eco-Adventure facilities includes a Canopy Walk, Monkey Bridge bellowed Dagook Falls, Trekking and from a 200m Hill slide through a cable in a Mountain Slide similar to zip-line. I was able to complete all four in at least 35 minutes. the last one is the most challenging for me! Refreshments are serve after completion includes Buko Juice, hot chocolate "tablea" and puto or "malagkit rice" Rest assure that all harness are tested safe plus the guidance of Great Catigbian staffs. From Catigbian Eco Adventure, come mixed emotions from my first mountain zip line. From the municipality of Catigbian we headed back to Amorita Resort at Panglao Island for a Ginger Degustation Menu. Just as we drive a couple of minutes everyone in the Amorita Van falls asleep. My Bohol Tour Day 2 is about to close. We arrive back the resort about past 7pm, freshens up in our room and prepare as we're about to enjoy Ginger Degustation fine-dining at the Saffron Restaurant viewing deck. The line-up indites with homemade Ginger Bread, Fresh Tuna Kinilaw set on mango carpaccio with spiced coconut sauce. Ginger refreshments Carrot & ginger cappuccino and Coconut & ginger sorbet. The main dished, Apple-Ginger Marinated Beef Medallion set on garlic pechay topped with ginger butter sided with sticky coconut yam and apple-ginger relish. The dessert, Orange Ginger Panna Cotta. Its my first time for a Ginger degustation menu and it is indeed a winner!

After breakfast, my Bohol Tour Day 3 is spent with the Amorita Resorts amenities, kinda uneasy because its my last day at the Resort. I'm gonna missed Amorita. Same with my other trips in Sta Fe, Bantayan Island its very awkward at the last day of your vacation. Makes me wanna stay for good in these piece of "Nirvana on earth". If I'm gonna list the things that I'm gonna missed from these 3-day trip in Bohol, it's the same as writing my blog post for this trip twice cause I'm gonna missed just all.

Summer in the Philippines has just started. And I think I was able to start spending summer very well. Find out why. Panglao Island, an island west of Bohol Province is one of my list to unwind from the daily corporate ambient in Cebu City where I work 5 days a week. Luckily, a friend call me that I, will be part of a Bohol Tour for 3-days and 2-nights with three other Travel-Lifestyle writers from Cebu Media and fellow travel bloggers from Cebu and Manila. I am so excited for an early summer treat! We arrived at the Amorita Resort just in time for launch. We first met Amorita Resort Manager - James San Diego with a warm welcome from our almost 2-hour ferry trip via Oceanjet fastcraft and 20-minute land trip from Tagbilaran Sea Port to Amorita Resort via Amorita shuttle.

After checking-in to Amorita Resort we are then treated to a Boholano Cuisine Lunch by Amorita, some of the Bohol's food treasure are chicken binakol and balbacua. Amorita's Saffron Restaurant whirls a relaxed and casual ambiance that enables you to see Amorita Resort's vast Infinity pool and as you look beyond offers the 180 degrees view of Alona Beach and Bohol Sea. I enjoyed having lunch on my first day in Panglao Bohol while having casual chats with co-bloggers and resort staffs. Next in line will be Amorita's In-room Massage Spa from in house Therapists. I said to myself, "this is one of my most relaxing afternoon". We stayed at the Deluxe Rooms in Amorita with two queen-size beds and spacious bathroom. It has rainfall-type shower with hot and cold fresh water. In the balcony, will treat your eyes with green vegetation of the resort. Amorita Ocean View Villas and Garden View Villas rooms are also offered. As the 1-hour massage spa set in motion, I was sent to a nap.

Kadaugan Street Party in Mactan is the biggest festival-mardigras of Lapu-Lapu City patterned after the festivals in South America. Kadaugan Street Party started 2011, in addition to the original "Kadaugan sa Mactan" or "Bahug-Bahug sa Mactan" which is re-enacted annually every April 27th for the 1521 Battler of Mactan, the area now is called Mactan Shrine. Havaianas Playback 2012 in Siliman brings back Pinoy Street Games

Parlor Games or Parlour Games, Street Games or Childhood Games are our kids favourite past time before but the fast-paced technology changes the game play to iPad and Andoid Tablets where Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja is more preferred. This year, as Havaianas celebrates 50 years, fun and fair play brought back big smiles in the missed street games: Bato lata, Chinese garter, Patintero (tubig-tubig), Sipa, Agawan base (bahaw-bahaw), Lakad bunot, Tumbang preso, and Piko in the 3rd Havaianas Playback Invitational at the Siliman University West Quadrangle in Dumaguete City last February 25, 2012.

Havaianas, in cooperation with the Siliman University Student Government and Council of Student Organizations, gathered 12 student organizations: Sigma Rho, Medical Technology, Zambo Sur Sillimanites, AgusanSillimanites, Pan Hellenic Society, Ang Sandigan, Tau Gamma Phi, Omicronian Society, Kadugong Bol-anon (KADBOL), Philippine Institute of Cumputer Engineering Students (PHICES), Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum (RYLF), and College of Education Student Organization (CESO).

The best rubber flip flop in the world turned back time for the day with a retrospective on well-loved Filipino street games. The day kicked off with the Parade of Colors and a cheering competition between all the participating groups. With the help of the Cebu City Sports Commissioners, these beloved childhood games proved to be no child’s play with serious cash prizes for the winning teams:

In a flurry of artistic expression, 15 Art students converged suddenly at The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu giving mall-goers a taste of sunshine with Havaianas Street Fun, a welcome break from the oppressive weather lately. Capoeira Artists and drum beaters quickly joined in the fun in the unique flash mob activity with a chalk art drawing representing Havaianas in the middle of the Terraces. Drumbeaters made passers-by sway to the beat of summer while capoeira enthusiasts showed off awesome high-kicks and acrobatic moves that combined martial arts, music and dance.

All You need to Know About the Minantaw Marine Park & Sanctuary

Last February 28 marks our visit to The Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary at the "backyard" of Cebu Province - The Eastern stretch of Mactan Island (Lapu-Lapu City) and the Northern Part of Bohol Province. The island in vicinity to the Marine Protected Area - The Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary is the Caubian Island still part of Lapu-Lapu City District. It takes you approximately 1 hour by motorized boat on high tide and 1.5 hours when low tide.

Chevron Philippines Incorporated (CPI), Project Seahorse Foundation (PSF), United Fishers of Caubian (NAMACA) and local government of Lapu-Lapu City, has joint efforts to the conservation of the rare and little known Danajon Double Barrier Reef or Danajon Bank.

The 214.6-hectare Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary within the Danajon Bank, one of six known double barrier reefs in the world and source of marine biodiversity in the region. Danajon Bank, located in central Philippines, is a critical fishing ground for thousands of fishers from Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Southern Leyte. It has a regulated fishing zone (62 hectares), seaweed farming zone (55 has.), sustainable use zone (37 has.) and 50-hectare strictly no-take or core zone. Since the 1950s, wanton exploitation and absence of conservation have severely degraded its marine habitats.
Since the creation of the Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary, local fisher folks have seen more commercially valuable species like rabbit fish, crabs, squid, seaweeds, “lukot”, and “urok”. To affirm that these initial observations equate to the effectiveness and the sustainability of the marine park and Marine Protected Area, Project Seashore Foundation focused on community organizing, formation and capacity building of the management council, as well as monitoring the biophysical conditions of the marine sanctuary.

3 years after the creation of Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary, the reef is not only showing improved health but the lives of Caubian villagers have seen positive changes as well. Seaweed industry in Cebu gets regular produce from Caubian and the resorts in Olango Island get crabs from Caubian fishers. A nearby resort employs Caubian residents. Money lenders also extend loans to Caubian residents whereas before they stay away from Caubian. Trips to Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary are also increasing from visitors from Mandaue City, Mactan Export Processing Zone employees, resort guests (for swimming), development NGOs from Mindanao and LGUs from Zamboanga Peninsula have all visited the Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary.

People need to be aware of this valuable Marine treasure which few people even from Cebu know about. The vision for Minantaw Marine Park and Sanctuary is to become a well managed dive destination so that nearby villagers can have an alternative source of livelihood.
