Rachel Christie is Miss England 2009

Aspiring heptathlete, Rachel Christie has battled her way through the heats to make it through to the 2 days event to claim victory by being crowned as the new Miss England at the London Hilton Metropole on the 20th of July.

Miss Cheltenham Crowned!

Victoria Ilina has been officially crowned Miss Cheltenham 2009 at a press call in the Queens Hotel in Cheltenham today. The Lord Mayor of Chelteham alongside the reining Miss England Laura Coleman, presented Victoria with her new crown and sash.

A big thank you to the Lord Mayor of Cheltenham and Laura Coleman for attending today's presentation.

We wish Victoria every success in her future and are very excited at the role she will play within the community as Miss Cheltenham. Victoria is profoundly deaf after suffering from meningitis as a baby. She is an extremely determined character and is a great role model to the deaf community, proving that anything can be achieved with the right outlook on life. It must be incredibly difficult to be deaf in any community and Victoria is an inspiration.

Victoria's reaction: "It was an honour to receive my crown from The Lord Mayor and Laura Coleman, who is a Business & Marketing graduate with an honours degree! Laura proves you can mix beauty and brains despite the comments in today's Echo. I want to make use of the title to help raise awareness of the everyday difficulties faced by people with a disability like mine."

We would also like to take this opportunity to explain the reasons why Alison Chenery was recently stripped of her title.

Firstly, according to the award website, Alison would have known about the Award she won back in April when the winners were informed. At the Miss Cheltenham final, during her interview, the judges were not informed about the award or when it was to be presented (the same day as the Miss England semi-finals) - no mention was made and we feel that vital information was withheld.

Secondly, no communication was made to either the Miss Cheltenham organisers or the Miss England office regarding Alison not being able to attend the Miss England semi-final. There was ample time and plenty of ways she could have made someone aware of her change of plans, and we feel something as important as the Miss England semi-finals meant solid communication was needed. The responsibility lies in the hands of the contestants regarding their involvement in the competition. The Miss England office was genuinely worried when Alison didn't show up and tried to contact her to no avail.

Obviously we understand contestants careers are highly important to them, and nobody denies that collecting an award as prestigious as the one Alison won is any less important than attending the Miss England semi-finals. But without responsibly communicating this information prior to being judged, and prior to the semi-finals event, we had no alternative but to take the title away from Alison.

Alison obviously has a great career ahead of her and we wish her all the best for the future.

Alison Chenery Looses Title

The Miss England office, and the Miss Cheltenham competition organisers, have today asked Alison Chenery, the winner of last months grand final at The Boogie Lounge, to return her crown and sash. The organisers were shocked to hear that Alison did not show at the recent Miss England semi-finals at Champneys in Leicestershire on Monday 8th June.

For several reasons (detailed in the press release below) the crown, sash and title of Miss Chetlenham 2009 are to be given to the runner up: Victoria Ilina.

On Friday 12th June at the Queens Hotel, the Lord Mayor of Cheltenham, alongside the reigning Miss England, Laura Coleman, and the press, will be officially crowning Victoria Ilina as Miss Cheltenham 2009.

Winner Crowned!

ALISON CHENERY wins Miss Cheltenham 2009 and wins a place in the Miss England Semi-final!

Alison, a 22 year old Project Manager from Cheltenham, will now compete with 59 other stunning beauties from across the country at the exclusive Champney’s Resort in Ashby-De-La-Zouch on Monday, June 8th in the hope of winning a place in the Miss England Grand Final being held at The Hilton Metropole Hotel, London on July 20th.

VICTORIA ILINA (pictured below right), a 22 year old Records Assistant from Cheltenham, won the public vote and qualifies for a place in the Miss Popularity contest, with a chance to go through to the Miss England Grand Final. Victoria was born with normal hearing, but become deaf at the age of 14 months after suffering with meningitis. She has taken part in beauty competitions before and was runner up in Miss Deaf UK in 2008.

The Miss Cheltenham final took place on the 28th May at The Boogie Lounge in Cheltenham. The six finalists were (left to right); STEF GLOVER, 18 from Cheltenham, VICTORIA ILINA, 22 from Cheltenham, TONI-LEIGH BURTON, 17 from Gloucester, CHARLOTTE COX, 22 from Cheltenham, ALEX WARBY 20 from Cheltenham and ALISON CHENERY, 22 from Cheltenham.

Congratulations to all this year's contestants and a big thank you to everyone who came along to show their support!

Grand Final Event!

Join us for the Miss Cheltenham 2009 Grand Final event on Thursday 28th May to be held upstairs @ Boogie Lounge Cheltenham!

One of these girls will be selected by the Miss England panel to go through to the national semi-finals on the 8th June @ Champneys Springs.

Although there is limited space upstairs, the downstairs area of the club will be open as usual, with music and drinks available until 3am.

Entry to this event is FREE -- you will need to download and print a ticket to present to the door staff.

Golden Ticket Winner!

Congratulations to Stef Glover who is our Golden Ticket winner! Stef automatically gets a place in this years Miss Cheltenham final to be held at the end of May.

Stef received the highest percentage rating from all online votes, with 3.7 / 5 (74%). A close second place was Alison Chenery with 3.5 /5 (70%), third was Alex Warby with 3.2 / 5 (63.7%), forth was Samantha Kearsey with 3.1 / 5 (61.7%), and in joint fifth place was Victoria Illna with 3 / 5 (60.6%) and Toni-Leigh Burton with 3 / 5 (59.8%).

Thanks to everyone who voted for this years contestants online, a massive 12,400 votes were cast in total!

Five more finalists will now be decided by text & phone voting which will begin tomorrow, more details will be published here very soon.

Online rating will finish this Sunday evening at midnight (10th May). Lots of ratings have been submitted so far, but there is still plenty of time left for friends and family to get rating. The contestant with the highest rating will win a Golden Ticket to the Miss Cheltenham final!
