Linen is one of the first materials that I want to break out when the weather is warm. It’s so crisp…until a few hours later when you become a wrinkled mess. But regardless it’s still one of my favs and I chose my linen shirtdress to be my calling card on an open interview at an employment agency.

As usual, I was overdressed but what being overdressed got me was a potential interview with the vice president of the agency for a job that was not advertised but is open!. It does pay to dress well and never treat the front desk person badly…sometimes they are not who they seem. They can make or break your meeting!

Other than the beach there is no other place in nature I love more than a park! Parks are children running around and playing, barefoot in the grass, picnic spread on a blanket and the icing….a beautiful river running around it.  That is how I spent Father’s Day just kicking it in the park.

It was late in the day so not oppressively hot and not too many kids around, so mine had free run of the playground. This post is really picture heavy but there were just too many too choose from. Oh and I am not even remotely cute but hanging in the park with the kiddos requires me to play too.

It’s almost Summer right? The temps here in Florida are already in the 90′s so I’d say that were right in the thick of Summer. The date doesn’t dictate that Summer feeling for me and that’s why I pulled out my white dress. This dress evokes everything that Summer is about…I love it so.

I’ve worn it a few ways in the past so I wanted to change it up just a bit. I’m not one of those people who refuse to wear an outfit the exact same way you wore it the first time, obviously I liked the look the first time so I don’t think it’s a problem if I do it again.

This time I grabbed one of my growing collection of straw fedoras and a pair of black and white sandals along with a leopard belt. Simple, easy…the way white is supposed to be.

I was longing for a pair of denim shorts that were not too short or too tight. I was browsing websites looking for the perfect pair until the light went off and I realized I could make the perfect pair.  So I Googled how to diy denim shorts and now we’re here.  I don’t have a lot of jeans but I sacrificed my Lee straight cut jeans since I was never really fond of the way they looked on me in hopes that they would fare better as a short.  Yes they did! I absolutely love them, short enough to show some leg but not so much that I have to feel undressed. They are just baggy enough but still fitted…yay!

Because I was showing so much leg, I decided to be covered up on top to balance the look out. I donned my caftan top from last year’s Miss Tina from Walmart collection. My brown wooden sandals and a straw fedora completed the look with some silver hoops and wood bangles on the wrists. The perfect Saturday afternoon outfit. I used perfect quite a bit in this post but when it all comes together what else can you say…it’s just perfect!

Don’t you just love a cute tee shirt? I make a habit of looking for them every I go now, they are the perfect punch to a plain pair of jeans or a simple pencil skirt.  A pencil skirt is what I chose to pair this with and my fabulous Guess leopard print sandals. And can I talk about this pencil skirt, it fits me like a glove. Everyone woman needs a black pencil skirt that she can dress up with heels and a blouse or down with some cute flat sandals or a pair of Chuck’s.

This chick has a rocking pink fro that is all awesomely fuzzy like natural hair and cute nerdy glasses…she is me!

I think I have found the most comfortable dresses with pockets ever! It’s like putting on a nightgown but with more style and I must say it again…pockets!! I love a dress with pockets as I have stated many times and what’s even better than all of that the dress was on clearance for $8.99 at Old Navy. So of course I bought two, I’m no dummy, LOL.

Oh yeah and it’s striped…I won’t keep going on I think I’m getting a little fanatical about the dress. K, I’ll stop now…

It’s raining buckets and barrels here in Florida, Tropical Storm Andrea is cutting up and the worse is yet to come! Besides hating rain, this weather is also wreaking havoc with my planned outfits of late.  I made some DIY cutoff denim shorts that I am itching to wear but I digress.  It was raining so hard that I just didn’t feel up to anything more than jeans and a tee. Although it isn’t cold at all for some reason I need to wear a jacket when it rains really hard, so I took the opportunity to break out the camo jacket.

It’s not an authentic Army jacket however I actually prefer this one because it’s fitted in the waist and has no identifying marks on it…Love! (which I understand is taboo if you were not in the military)

Also the weather is keeping me from outside pics which sucks because my indoor pics need some work.  I still haven’t learned Photography 101 and Photography for Dummies so I don’t know jack about camera settings. So please forgive the pics in advance….I’m not pleased with the clarity but I did try to fix them with a little editing.

I posted on Instagram earlier today a picture of my summer office. It’s the pool where I live and where I spend lots of time at once the weather really warms up.

Since I spend so much time at the pool, I’m starting to build a collection of lounging clothes that I can wear to cover up when I’ve had enough sun or just not feeling wearing a swimsuit.

Caftans are perfect for just that, you can throw them on and be covered, chic and comfy! This turquoise and white stripe that I’m wearing is a Goodwill find from a few years ago that I’m just finally wearing. It was obviously homemade but I love how breezy and light it is.

I paired it with nothing more than some strappy silver sandals with a neon pink pedicure.  I’m not a big jewelry/makeup at the pool or beach girl. I like to keep it simple.  Oh, did I tell you that I’m obsessed with pink and silver lately?

Gotta go…don’t you see I’m at work, LOL!

I’ve begun a journey to love me….It wasn’t that I hated me but more I didn’t know that I wasn’t loving me! I wasn’t taught how to love myself, I wasn’t aware that loving yourself didn’t always come naturally. I didn’t know that loving me meant sometimes I had to be rough with myself and the choices I make. That sometimes I might have to hurt now to feel better later. My first inclination is to love others before myself, not that I wasn’t worthy of loving myself first but that the greatest form of love was to put others first. Now in certain instances that is exactly what should happen but for the most part, loving you should come before loving others. See the danger in loving yourself last is that you become accustomed to that type of behavior. You start to allow people to treat you as if you are insignificant, as if your needs don’t matter…all in the name of being loving and selfless.

You begin to fall victim to the ideology that if you give everyone what they need, they’ll give you what you need…WRONG! The more you take yourself out of the equation the less your problem will be solved. Now  I’m not talking about selfishness and being self-centered, no I’m talking healthy self love, esteeming yourself highly….seeing yourself the way God sees you.

God created you as a beautiful, unique person endowed with a special set of gifts and talents to shower on the world. Then we somehow become infected with negative thoughts that tell us we are not good enough and so it begins a spiral down a rabbit hole so deep that we are unable to find our way back out of it. So we start looking for someone to help us get out, someone to help us find our way back to where we first began. Only problem with this is that most of the time those who we choose to help us are just as clueless and self hating as we are. And on it goes until we finally see the light and break free.

However freedom always comes with a price, winning back your self esteem is a hard fought battle that usually leaves ugly, deep scars. But no matter how fierce the battle is I’m here to tell you that it’s worth it! Fighting for love, the love of self is the highest and noblest battle you will ever face. You will meet many an opponent who seeks to destroy you but not to worry, in the end you will be victorious. You now have the strength to fight long, hard and courageously because you now see the vision of who you were are all along.

From the mouth of the late great Whitney Houston singing, the greatest love is happening to me, I’ve found the greatest love of all inside of me.  Love doesn’t happen to you it is you and it radiates to everyone who is near it until it’s mirrored back to you. If you don’t see love in the mirror looking back at you time to reevaluate what you are seeing and through whose eyes you are looking through.
