Masked – Boudoir Photography

When it comes to boudoir photography I really love using masks. They add an air of mystery, seduction, and maybe a little … je ne sais quoi.. This particular piece I found right before Halloween, in a costume store.

When it comes to props during a boudoir session, they can enhance the look, or completely destroy it. It’s all about how they are being used. One thing to keep in mind is to never over use them. They should never distract from the subject. In our boudoir sessions we seldom use props, unless they will enhance the session, or will create a certain mood that the you ,as a client, wants. Sometimes props can be really simple, like his favorite shirt or a tie. They can also reflect your personality, like your favorite cowboy hat, or boots. Another great idea that may involve props, is to step out of your comfort zone a little and maybe do something risque, like having your boudoir session done… outdoors. Like this one. Enjoy!

Being… – Art Photography

As you can see from the title, I had a tough time classifying these images. They could be part of a boudoir set, or part of an lifestyle series studying the human form. Thus I decided on art, as it is very general . I guess the only thing that suffers here is my SEO, I think I can live with that. I just really like these images, and even though they don’t fall into any theme (I personally called them Yoga), I still wanted to show them to you. There is something about them that is calming, peaceful…. I let you judge for your self. Enjoy!

Portraits done a little differently – Portrait Photography

In the last post I was talking about lifestyle photography. Today I wanted to talk about portrait photography. I know that some look at portraits in a very traditional way. I, on the other hand, have a bit of a different view. I guess you can call them more candid, or lifestyle… I find that a traditional portraits can be really beautiful, I like to add a little extra emotion or story. Some may not call these portraits at all. I like to engage the subject in a conversation, and during our dialogue take the photographs. We usually joke around, which allows for the genuine smiles to appear. I also like to include elements from the environment, which then really becomes an environmental portrait. All these names, in reality do make a difference. Here are some examples of what I mean. Enjoy!

A day at the farm – Lifestyle Photography

A couple of weeks ago, I spent a very nice morning at an abandoned farm with Miss N. It was a perfect day to experiment a little. With three cameras and 85mm f1.8, 50mm f1.2 and 35mm f1.4, I had plenty of options. I really don’t like changing lenses in the field, as this introduces dust into the camera. Also having a mirror less cameras makes it even worse, because the sensor is fully exposed when the lens is removed.

Miss N, was absolutely wonderful to work with. Full of energy and full of ideas to add to the whole session. We started off very early in the morning, at 6:30am, just to be able to catch the best light. Miss N was ready from the start. It is great when you working with a person like that. The whole session is a lot more fun and time just flies by. We got a lot of images that day, and I would like to share with you some I would call lifestyle photography, with a beautiful woman, a beautiful dress and the contrast of an old farm. Enjoy!

A Year In Macro Photography

Our recent chat about macros on a podcast Shuttertime with Sid and Mac has given me an idea for this post. We were talking about the fact that it is easy to shoot macros all year round, for it doesn’t requite taking any long trips to exotic places or getting up at a crack of dawn. All you need is a decent macro lens or extension tubes, a few plants in your backyard or a trip to the park with your family and you can always find something interesting to shoot. Whether it is a cool plant, a bug or a spider web there really always is something out there to take pictures of. As long as you find an interesting angle or a colourful background you can came back home with tons of gorgeous shots. I start the year with a trip to one of the neighbourhood nurseries in early May, before our outdoor planters can be filled safely with growing things. It is always a great pleasure to look at all the beautifully colourful flowers just waiting for the weather to warm up enough for safe planting and the bugs are usually there as well. A couple of hours of being lost in such surroundings and I come back home with a memory card full of shots. Here is a few of such spring shots that kept me happy over the recent years before the outside world turned green:

Then, things are starting to bloom outside and I start taking my camera out and about to see what new things are showing up out there. I have shared some spring images I took close by in my post Spring 2013 so I’m going to just include a couple of more recent shots today:

During the podcast we have mentioned the fact that having an interestingly coloured background makes a difference. Here is an example – a couple of shots of the same spider web covered in dew and how the angle of the shot, utilizing different colours of the background, makes a difference:

Summer! Ah.. This is a macro photographer’s paradise.. Over the last couple of years I have gathered so many wonderful shots and they’ve kept me very happy during long winter months..

There is always something magical in catching reflections in water droplets.. You can see the whole world inside a drop if you find a proper angle. It’s always so much fun!!! And if you don’t want to bother with these there is always the occasional trip into the country. I try always to take my macro lens with me. You never know what you’ll find on such an outing..

And if you are tired of all that colour, you can always play a bit with an image and come up with something like that:

Fall has it’s own pleasurable moments with it’s fogs turning into frost and covering all and a wonderful soft, warm light. There is always something that catches my eye..

During winter months I try to find something at home that can be photographed. Whether it is my son’s guitar or a flower that was given to me, it makes not very big difference except it is not always easy to get good, strong light inside. I still go out and explore if I can. It may be cold, but if the weather conditions are right one can find little treasures outside, such as a couple of snowflakes (I’ve shared a few of those in my post Beauty of a Snowflake – Part 3) or frost covered foliage:

So keep on shooting guys. There is really no need for long trips to exotic locations and you don’t need too much time . Just a few minutes here and there. Cool stuff can be found everywhere!!

It changes the flow of the session. It can go from sensual and peaceful to something more energetic. We love capturing movement, emotion, and energy. Had a great pleasure photographing Miss B boudoir session, recently. It is so much fun shooting these private sexy, and sensual sessions with my wife shooting beside me. We both create images a little differently, and this makes a huge difference. She sees the little details, and I see the whole set. My wife is also the joking type, and she will get you smiling and laughing very quick. This really adds to the whole session, as you relax and have a lot of fun. That’s our main purpose, for you to have fun. These sessions are a celebration of your beauty as a woman. The sexy and sensual you! Everyone is invited! Just like I talked about boudoir photography in an recent episode of Shutter Time with Sid and Mac.

We usually do not post images from our clients, as they are quite personal, but we always ask for permission, and sometimes we are allowed. Miss B was absolutely wonderful, and we had a great time. Hope to see her again.

Spring Sunset And “Prairie Castles”

Couple of weeks ago we have driven to a spot we’ve found about a year ago to see how is the spring progressing out in the country. The distant silos on the horizon reminded me very much of castles in Europe and if you don’t look too close you can actually pretend that that’s what they are. Works for me ;D. It was a bit of a chilly evening, and mosquitos were out in quite a force, but being armed with a big old can of bug spray we were not afraid of them at all (one must be quite brave to venture out this year, for there is literally millions of them, considering how wet everywhere is..). The world was full of frog and bird calls and it was so wonderfully relaxing to just sit and watch the spectacle unfold. What can I say, I’m a complete sucker for a nice sunset.. And if you can witness such, pretending you are traveling in Europe, with a wonderful accompaniment of natural music of nature… Let just say, it doesn’t get much better than that.. I hope you will enjoy a few shots from that trip, considering how gloomy it is outside today. It is such a pleasure to ignore the wet, cold, cloudy outdoors and concentrate on the sunlight, sunset colors and a beauty of surrounding world.. With a touch of imagination, the magic is on!

Spring at Elk Island

The last time we’ve ventured to Elk Island National Park the world was covered in deep snow.. (Hunting for Bison at Elk Island). Now all this snow has melted and turned the land into one almost everlasting wetland.. There was no silence when we arrived there about a week ago in the evening. The music of frogs and mosquito buzzing, interrupted on occasion by a bird call or two was everywhere.. Thank Goodness for bug spray!!! If it wasn’t for a heavy layer of it we would have been eaten alive!! But, we were rather well prepared, having a tube of the heavy stuff stashed inside our vehicle at all times . And it was great because if we weren’t prepared we would have missed all the sights we’ve seen: beavers going about their supper, lots of birds and a surprisingly beautiful sunset – which we didn’t really expect due to the clouds gathering on the western horizon. All in all, it was another wonderful trip, made better by the fact that when we started our drive we never planned to arrive at Elk Island.. It just happened ;D.. And, since today, the sky is rather heavy with dark clouds a little bit of colorful sunset and vibrant spring world will do us good, I think.. So enjoy!

Miss T – Boudoir Photography

A few weeks ago, we had a great pleasure of working with Miss T for her boudoir session in our studio. Miss T brought an unusual item, specially for boudoir, her boxing gloves. That added a new twist to the theme. I encourage this very much in our boudoir photography sessions. The sessions are very personal, and anything that can add a touch of you, something that makes the images unique is just brilliant. We try to make our boudoir sessions an event. Something that makes you feel special, like going to a spa and getting pampered. That’s what our boudoir session are like. Fun, full of laughter and energy. Just for you to feel super special.

Usually we do not post any images from our sessions. Well because they are kinda private, and personal. From time to time we get permission from our special ladies to show a few, like Miss W boudoir session, and Miss T has graciously allowed us to show some of her images. There are a lot more…. but only for Miss T
