The Year of The Tiger begins on February 14th 2010. Drama, intensity, change and travel will be the keywords for 2010. Unfortunately, world conflicts and disasters tend to feature during Tiger years also, so it won’t be a dull 12 months for anyone. The Year of the Tiger will bring far reaching changes for everyone. New inventions and incredible technological advances have a good chance of occurring.

The Dragon

The Rat

What I’m talking about? Flowboarding, a sort of new form of sports that’s hitting the beach around the world. At present, only 4 venues which includes Wave House San Diego, Wave House Durban, Wave House Santiago and the new Wave House Sentosa, as well as in many independent water parks and retail locations.

Flowboarders ride on artificial waves that are technically called “sheet waves.” Known technically as the WaveLoch FlowRider® and the FlowBarrel®, these sheet waves are the patented constructions of Wave Loch, Inc. which is headquartered in La Jolla, California. Powerful pumps project a three-inch layer of water at speeds ranging from 20 MPH to 30 MPH. The water flows up and over surfaces engineered to replicate the shape of ocean waves. Sheet waves are stationary waves, in that the wave does not move forward, and the movement is derived from water flowing over a stationary surface. Flowboarders get their speed from the energy of the water flowing at them, and can perform basic to sophisticated turns and tricks within a relatively small area.

The technical description for sheet wave from patent application 5,401,117, dated March 28, 1995 reads: “A sheet flow is where the water depth is sufficiently shallow such that the pressure disturbance caused by a rider and his vehicle are generally known as the ‘ground effect.’ This provides for an inherently more stable ride, thus requiring less skill to catch and ride a wave.’”

I managed to catch up with some participants from the USA and South Africa recently when they came to South East Asia for one of their Championship Leg. South Africa goes into the history book as the inaugural title holders for the 2009 International FLOW (Flowboarding League Of the World) Championships with three scintillating finals that carved a new era in the phenomenal sport of flowboarding. Here’s a low down on what the series is about. The Visitors are a fictional invading alien race from the V franchise. The “Visitors” are reptilian humanoids who disguise themselves to look human but prefer to eat live prey, such as mice. In the 1983 and 1984 miniseries, but not the 1984 TV series, the disguised Visitors can be told apart from humans by a reverberating echo in their voices.

A new version was made and the first episode was recently aired in the USA. One thing that’s different from the 80s version is the reimagined 2009 versions lack that vocal attribute and thus makes the aliens appear more human. All Visitors are given human names for the humans’ convenience. They are never heard to use their home-world names.

I have been wondering when they’ll release a re-worked version of this series, well, I guess my question has been answered with this new series. Here’s the trailer from the new release.

With this series shown, we now have The Knight Rider and V reworked. A-team’s in the pipeline so now if only they’ll create a new version of The StreetHawk and AirWolf. That’ll be great. Don’t you think?

All I can do at that moment was to pick up my jaw that has dropped to the floor looking at this bag of goodies. Then the following question came to me, what are those guys thinking? Trying to make me get back into running or more precise cross country running?

These guys at World of Sports lectured the other day about me using the wrong type of shoes as when we first met, I was in my basketball shoes. The first question they asked was, “You do a lot of walking right? Why are you wearing the wrong type of shoes?”, of course I countered with “I love these shoes, they are comfortable! Furthermore, to me a sports shoe is a sport shoe. Does it really matter if it’s a basketball shoe or a running shoe?”. Let’s just say that after talking to the 8 times World Grand Prix Mountain Running Champion, Jonathan Wyatt and a few other avid runners. My perception towards wearing the right type of shoes for the right activity is crucial.

The shoes that I was presented with is the Salomon XT-Wings. It’s Red, has these cool Kevlar® Quickfit™ lacing system that takes just one pull for a precise fit and there’s lace pockets to hide the lacing! It also have reflective detailing that helps increases visibility of the users in low light.

Having used it for the last 3 weeks, I must say that whether you are walking or running in it, the shoe’s very comfortable. It’s also grippy especially when you’re running through patches of slippery concrete areas so your footing remains firm and you don’t feel like you’re going to fall off.

Running through terrains also feels much more comfortable and secure as the bottom part of the shoes provide great cushioning and protective armor. I was running through some patches of loose gravel as well as some rocky area recently and while I could feel the stones trying to poke their way through the shoes, the XT-Wings remains firm and well, I felt much more assured in running through instead of slowing down not wanting any stones to finally break through upon impact.

I’m no shoe expert or a professional runner to write about all the technical stuff. All I can say is my own personal experience with the shoe. So all I can say is, the styling is cool even though I was told by some that it’s too red! Very comfortable, it’s lightweight with Aggressive, forward-tilted weight balance and has a Secure grip and traction on rough and tricky surfaces. Did I mention that you don’t have to tie laces with the shoe? There’s this cool Quickfit system that can be hidden away after you tug on it to ‘lace up’. With that, there’s no worries of the laces coming loose in the middle of a run. Cool right?

The Salomon XT-Wings are available at all World of Sports outlets, just head towards the Salomon section of the outlets. It’s presently retailing at RM529 in Malaysia and SGD229 in Singapore.

Incredibly drunk & walking home, they needed to pee. So they stopped at the cemetery. One of them had nothing to wipe with so she thought she would take off her panties and use them. Her friend, however, was wearing a rather expensive pair of panties and did not want to ruin them, but was lucky enough to squat down next to a grave that had a wreath with a ribbon on it, so she proceeded to wipe with it.

After the girls did their business, they proceeded to go home.

The next day, one woman’s husband was concerned that his normally sweet and innocent wife was still in bed hung over, so he phoned the other husband and said, ‘These damn girls’ night outs have got to stop. I’m starting to suspect the worst. My wife came home with no panties.’

‘You think that’s bad’ said the other husband, ‘Mine is lying in bed with a card stuck in her bum that says:
‘From all of us at the Fire Station. We’ll Never forget you.’

About 30min into the event, Marinated Smoked Tuna with Feta, Herb Salad and Balsamic Olive Oil was served.

The tuna was followed by a bowl of Light Cream of Asparagus and Green Peas topped with a Chive Mousseline.

Rosemary Marinated Chicken Breast with Saffron Cheesy Mash Potato and Balsamic Reduction Mediterranean Vegetable in Mango Coriander Salsa Sauce was next.

Only thing I find disappointing in this whole thing is there’s no ALCOHOL! WTF. Only way to solve the issue? StrippedSteph, ShaolinTiger, KimberlyCun, Eyeris and xescx went over to Brewerkz for our fix. Even though she wasn’t there with us, we still thought of her, who am I talking about? Suanie of course as attest to the tweets we all send out to her while we were getting our belly field with alcohol. LOL These is what we drank or rather, tried. Majority of it was downed by ShaolinTiger and Xescx while I’m quite contented with my Stout.

Here’s a suggestion to end the post, for the next NUFFNANG event, MAKE SURE THERE’S ALCOHOL!!!! And make it FREE FLOW!!!
