Great.
We're always made to feel like we're looking for something totally unreasonable = an independent, unweighted, evidence based education. I admire your perseverence and dedication Michael. x

Although I'm a bible-thumping pentacostal evangelical with deep roots in Scholasticism, there are times when I would really prefer to be an atheist. As an atheist you are responsible to no one for ideas; you are free to construct your own world-view without interference from anyone else. Given my temperment and training, my world view would immediately regard everybody else on the planet as amusing little toys to be used for whatever form of social or economic gratification I had in mind. Since, obviously, my opinion would be just as valid as anyone else's (even more so, because it's mine and, as the philosophers have said, "existence is its own justification), there's no way in hell that anybody would reasonably argue me out of the most pleasant and determined selfishness. Whatever arguments could be advanced about my "duty" to humanity or other sentimental, unprovable rot, would have no more force than my argument which states that we're put on earth to make each other happy so you better get on the stick.

Ah, sweet atheism....alas, it's not to be.

It's great that Dawkins topped the list and had other books here as well. The same with the late, great Dr. Carl Sagan. I was amazed that his "Pale Blue Dot" didn't make the list. His pure poetry of science and evolution naturally includes many references to atheism and disbelief in all things supernatural. He does it with such naturalness and class! this list can't be complete without it. Also, one of the best websites I've come across is: http://www.edge.org It archives voluminous amounts of past articles and material and be sure not to miss the annual question posed to and answered by the best thinkers on the planet on atheistic topics. Enjoy!

While watching panels and debates involving (on our side) the notables Hitchens, Harris, Dawkins, Dennett, Grayling, Schermer, I am constantly finding myself mystified by their non-use of the intellectual ammunition provided by Walter Richard Cassels' 'Supernatural Religion: An Enquiry Concerning the Reality of Divine Revelation', and David Friedrich Strauss's 'Life of Jesus' (Das Leben Jesu) and its later edition retitled (and completely revised, simplified for laymen, as the earlier work was aimed at his professional colleagues among the various university theologians) 'A New Life of Jesus', translated from "A Life of Jesus for the German People'. I cannot here emphasize enough the monumental importance of these books, nor over-estimate the rapturous, revelatory, epiphanies awaiting the readers of Strauss and Cassels.

EXCELLENT! Keep on the good work.
Kowtowing to dark age mythologies is dangerous.

I read the Minister's rationale for the blasphemy law. Let me translate it for you all,
"WE SURRENDER AL QAEDA! HERE, TAKE THE KEYS TO THE COUNTRY. JUST PLEASE DON'T HURT US!" Snivel, snivel, grovel, grovel.
