There is one feature that ipod doesnt support , pdf documents.

Convert pdf documents to text format using pdftotext command

eg: >>pdftotext your.pdf your.txt

Use http://ebookhood.com/ to convert the pdf in text format to ipod notes compatible ebook format.

this may not be in the best readable format , but (e)bookworms can make the best use of it.

move wordpress blog from root to subdirectory

but that didn solve one particular problem, redirecting the old url to new url.

earlier i had my blog in the root directory on my domain http://www.rajeshpg.com.i moved my blog to a subdirectory http://www.rajeshpg.com/blog.i reinstalled wordpress in the subdirectory,and import my earlier posts.

The problem is that the old url for a post (probably indexed by google) should be redirected to new url.

example:- http://www.rajeshpg.com/2007/01/javaxservletservletexception-path-loginlayout-does-not-start-with-a-character/ should be redirected to http://www.rajeshpg.com/blog/2007/01/javaxservletservletexception-path-loginlayout-does-not-start-with-a-character/

After googling for an hour i got the solution.

modify your .htaccess file(or create one) in the root directory with this code.

RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^(\d*)/(\d*)/(.*)$ http://yourdomainname.com/blog/$1/$2/$3 [L,R=301]
(\d*) represents a sequence of numbers.
(.*) represents sequence of characters.

note:- this solution works only for the urls of /year/month/title pattern of wordpress blog.

Hardy Heron and NVIDIA

Hardy Heron is one of the best version from Ubuntu, but still i had issues with the graphics card driver for NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS on DELL laptop.

Initially the desktop effects didn work.

I tried to enable the graphics card from Hardware Drivers tool in System -> Administration.

It installed nvidia-glx-new and the other necessary packages.After restarting the system, the screen got freezed after the re-booting the system, before the login screen came up.

I uninstalled all the drivers and tried to install the grapchics driver using EasyNG.EasyNG installed the NVIDIA Driver 169.xx.xx version(i am not sure about the version number).But still it didn work.

After googling for the solution , i found that there was beta version NVIDIA Driver 173.xx.xx, even that didnt help.

On 28th May 2008 NVIDIA released the final version of Driver 173.14.05.i tried again installing the latest version.

Now Desktop effect works perfectly on my laptop.

I am too late to blog this , but still this would help someone out there.
