I know from my own experiences, finding a good muslim names with good meaning for our baby is not such an easy tasks. There are thousands of Muslim Names to choose from, so here are 5 ways to help you to find a right Muslim Names for your baby boy or baby girl.

While you’re browsing the Muslim Names directories, every time you found a Muslim Names you like; which sounds good to you, have good meaning and it feels somewhat right for your baby, just jot it down somewhere, along with it’s meaning. Then after that, let say your managed to list a number of 10 great Muslim Names for your baby, the next step is to recite each one of it out loud and decide if you like how it sounds, because you’re going to be calling your child that name all his or her life. To further narrow down your list, try looking at the meaning of the names. Some people say that a name reflect the person who wore it. If you still have quite a number of names maybe it helps if you list it in order you most liked to least liked. Insyallah, you will find one interesting Muslim Names suited for your baby.
Why don’t you try naming your children with the names from the previous generation of your family. Such as, you have a grandfather named Hanifah which means upright, then you can use that name to name your baby boy. As for the title of the post ( Muslim Names – Giving a Non-Arabic Name for Muslim Baby ) have indicate this post is for you parents who are wondering if it is okay to give your baby names that is non-arabic. Islam is a universal religion with many races embracing it. Muslim Names I think do not have to be in Arabic language.

There are no restrictions in Islam for Muslims to name their baby, whether baby boys or baby girls with a non-arabic names. It’s up to the Muslim parents to choose the names for their children. However, Islam does prepare a guideline for parents on selecting the proper and good Muslim names for their babies, which you can refer to my previous post on ‘Choosing Muslim Names the Right Way;The Islam Way‘. Islam also emphasizes that Muslims should have good names and make sure to give good Muslim names to their children as well.

An Islamic scholar and a senior lecturer at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Sheikh Ahmad Kutty states:

“Children are a trust in the hands of parents. Parents, therefore, have a duty to receive this divine gift with a true sense of gratitude and do everything at their disposal toprovide the best nurturing. There is nothing better they can do in this regard than by providing them a home filled with love and kindness, and thus contributing to their overall physical, intellectual, ethical and spiritual growth and development. Such a duty begins before the birth of the child and extends all through their lives. Having said this, I must say, that the first important duty when a child is born is to recite the adhan in the right ear in a gentle voice, and give him or her a good name.”

As long as we follow the guidelines on choosing Muslim Names for our babies, there are nothing in the Islamic Sources that indicate we are only allowed to give our children Arabic Names. Any names as long as it have good meanings, no matter in what languages is acceptable as a good Muslim Names. However while choosing Muslim Names for our babies, it is best to choose names that will reflect our Islamic Identities.

The Best Time to give the Perfect Muslim Names for your baby.

There are two hadeeth that we can refer on to determine the best time to name your baby.

Rasulallah (s.a.w) said that “Every child is held in pledge for his Aqeeqah which is sacrificed for him on his seventh day, and he is named on it and his head is shaved.”
['Saheeh' by Shaikh al-Albanee '1165' Abu Dawood 'vol: 2, no: 2831' and as well others]

The other narration in this aspect is related by Anas (r.a), who said Rasulallah (s.a.w) said “A boy was born to me this night and I have given him the name of my forefather Ibrahim.”
[Saheeh Muslim (4/ 5733)]

Based on these hadeeth, a child can be named on the day of the baby is out to the world or the naming can wait until the baby is seven days old. Besides that, on the baby’s seventh day, Aqeeqah is performed for the baby and it is preferable for the baby’s head to be shaved.

However there are no restriction for you to name your child at anytime. Both times mentioned in the hadeeth are the best and recommended for naming your baby with a good muslim baby names.
