We have been receiving several emails and phone calls from people asking about producing a replacement carpet kit for the all new 2010 Mazda3’s (sedan, sport & Mazdaspeed3), RX-8’s and Mazda6’s (2002 – 2008). We are now in the process of getting the preliminary work started to get these kits and we need your help. If you or someone you know is the owner of a 2010 Mazda3, RX-8 or Mazda6 who may be interested in such a kit we want to hear from you. I ask that you send an email to sales (at) mazda3carpet.com with your car model in the subject line just to help us gauge interest.

When we develop these kits we need to test fit them on an actual vehicle. So we are calling out owners of these vehicles who live close to the Toronto, Canada (or is willing to come down at your own expense) to help us with our prototype kits.

It has been a while since I last posted a blog and while I have been swamped with work I thought that it was about time that I post something here. There have been a few developments here at Mazda3carpet.com that I would like to share with you over the next couple of days. The first of them has to do with some product changes and new product announcement.

As some of you have likely heard or noticed that the Ultra Lux Kits are no longer listed in our product page. The reason was the inability for that super thick carpet in the Ultra Lux kit to stretch in to the tight corners/bends in the floor of the Mazda 3. Because of the high level of quality we are committed to delivering with all of our products we made the decision to discontinue the Ultra Lux carpet kits.

While the Ultra Lux is no longer available, our Premium Kits are available and can be found HERE. Our Premium kits are superior in quality and feel to the factory carpet supplied from Mazda.

The next bit of news is that we will be introducing some new kits for other Mazda vehicles as well as new color choices for the Mazda3. The first color to be introduced was inspired by the Type R carpets found on several special edition JDM cars in Japan.

To HID or not to HID. That is the question!

What are HID lights?

A High-intensity discharge (HID) lamp is a type of electrical lamp which produces light by means of an electric arc between tungsten electrodes housed inside a translucent or transparent fused quartz or fused alumina arc tube. This tube is filled with both gas and metal salts. The gas facilitates the arc’s initial strike. Once the arc is started, it heats and evaporates the metal salts forming a plasma, which greatly increases the intensity of light produced by the arc and reduces its power consumption. High-intensity discharge lamps are a type of arc lamp.

Compared with fluorescent and incandescent lamps, HID lamps have higher luminous efficacy since a greater proportion of their radiation is in visible light as opposed to heat. Their overall luminous efficacy is also much higher: they give a greater amount of light output per watt of electricity input.

Aftermarket HID kits

After attending several TorontoMazda3.com club meetings and seeing how sweet those HID and Angel Eyes look on Mazda 3’s, I have started to think about installing them on my car.

Being that I am older, I have become very hesitant about modifications to my car. So I did what every grown man under 35 does: Googled it. I read several articles and forum posts talking about HID conversions. I even have spoken to several people who have HID kits installed about it. With arguments being made for having them and others for not, it has become quite confusing.

The upside of HID kits

The positives of installing HID kits on your Mazda3 include a custom, high-end luxury look that is unique when compared to other Mazda3’s. The higher luminous efficacy of HID lights should create a brighter, longer path of light giving the driver a longer view of the road ahead.

The downside to aftermarket kits

While performing my research I came across Daniel Stern Lighting which has a great article on HID conversions and warning against them and the legality of them.

Here is a very informative investigative news story from the UK that talks about the legality of them. While the laws in the UK may differ from Canada and the US, the effects of these conversions seem to be univeral.

The Verdict?

It seems that most people are very pleased with their HID kits, however I am not convinced that I can acheive the greater lighting distance without blinding oncoming drivers with an aftermarket kit. So I am not sure if I want to go through the expense or hassle of installing HID’s only to be disappointed. So I am weighing my options and would like to know what other Mazda3 owners think.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009 – Vaughn, Ontario, Canada. After a few months of planning and pre-production, the very first Mazda3carpet.com Molded Carpet kit was unveiled to a group of Mazda3 enthusiasts at a Tim Hortons just north or Toronto.

The kit itself a Premium grade called Ultra Lux which is reminiscent of the premium flooring material used in luxury marques such as Cadillac, Audi, Mercedes Benz, etc.

All Mazda3carpet.com Molded Carpet kits feature cut pile nylon strands which are much thicker, substantial and has superior durability to the factory issued carpeting. The premium grade Ultra Lux features 40% more strands of nylon per square inch than the standard kit and provides a more plush and durable flooring material than even our standard kit.

The reviews from club members were glowing:

Driving 18 hours through a winter storm; New carpet gets made; Further updates

The past 34 hours have been a test of endurance with a combination of hard work, frustration and joy. After a 9 hour trip to the manufacturer we had finally arrived and met with the great people who work there. We got down to business and stripped the interior down, created the first carpet kit (an Ultra Lux) and installed it in my personal Mazda3.

First impression: Amazing, a big jump from the stock carpeting.

I would have had a post with pics up sooner, but my brother and I got caught in that big winter storm the just killed the mid-west. Driving through that much snow and ice in a lowered Mazda3 (even though it has winter tires) just wasn’t easy. The drive back was nearly 18 hours, which included several stops for Red Bull, Tim Hortons coffee (can’t believe they don’t take CDN money at a Timmy’s in Michigan..ugh) and a few quick naps along the way. White knuckles the whole way.

I will have pictures of the new carpet up later on tonight. In the mean time, here is a couple of videos showcasing the mold being used to create the kits (take note to Mazda’s new North American name on one of the molds..hehe)
