With the pit area being packed, it was evident that the 2009 Fall Eve of Devastion was going to provide much excitement for the standing room only crowd, here today, at Marshfield Motor Speedway!

Events sparking the interest of the fans and participants today was the Bus Races, Spin To Win, Demolition Derby(s), Relay Race, Tire Race, Burnout Contest, Trailer Race, Junkyard Warriors, 2nd Over The Line, Last Man Race, and ending the night with Fireworks presented by Safe ‘n Sane from Medford!

Great family fun was had by all that attended, here today, at Marshfield Motor Speedway. It was great to see many new faces, both in the crowd and in the pits. Displaying his talents and having much success in every Eve of Devastaion that he participates in, was that of Jon Schultz. Schultz once again went home with much hardware winning the Last Chance (compact), Relay Race (Full), second in the Tire Race (compact). Another driver with much success was Tim Phillips. Phillips went home with the gold in the Tire Race (Full), Last Chance (Full), Spin to Win (Full).

September 15, 2009; Marshfield, WI: – Eight two wheeled warriors blasted out some fast laps on the MMS blacktop today. Lee Johnson of Big Flats, WI timed in with the fastest lap at 21.28 seconds on the half mile paved oval. In the six-lap motorcycle heat, rocket starter Bobby Fedrowitz blazed away off the line to the early lead, only to fall to a blistering attack by Ringle, WI rider, Mark Zeidler. Fedrowitz shadowed Zeidler’s every move waiting for a mistake, while Lee Johnson and Cliff Eckes followed in their draft.

In the ten lap feature event, again, it was Bobby Fedrowitz controlling the start. However, it was Zeidler who swept past coming out of turn two to assume the lead. The front four, Zeidler, Fedrowitz, Eckes, and Johnson inched away from the rest of the pack to settle the top spots. Fedrowitz came under attack for the second spot from both Eckes and Johnson. Being relegated back to fourth, Fedrowitz put in a mighty effort to retake his position, however, he lost traction coming out of turn two and slid sideways off the racing line. Once Fedrowitz regained traction, his vision was on Lee Johnson for the third position. Meanwhile, Cliff Eckes was stalking the leader Mark Zeidler, and reeled him in as Zeidler’s tires started to go away. Closer and closer with each corner, Eckes perched his nose on Zeidler’s rear wheel, taking his last shot at passing a very fast Zeidler. Entering turn three on the last lap, Zeidler went low and Eckes the high side; Eckes then swooped to the low end coming out of turn four in a mad dash to the checkers. Scant inches were the margin of victory as Mark Zeidler held off a hard charging Cliff Eckes for the win!

Fall Spectacular Champion in the Pure Stocks – Kyle Gennett!

The United States Super Trucks proved to be very exciting with some of the best truck drivers in the country participating. Leading the USST to the green flag for their 50-lap feature event was John Wood and Larry Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons, a Minnesota driver has visited victory lane before here at MMS. Last week, he visited victory lane in a super late model.  Also, the gentleman driver notched another victory by collecting first place in his respective heat in the USST. Fitzsimmons battled off passing attempts by John Wood. Wood would gain the advantage down the shoot, but Fitzsimmons gain it back throughout the corners. The two drivers ran first and second throughout the first 12 laps. On lap 13, Wood was finally able to clear Fitzsimmons on lap 13. It appeared Wood had the truck to beat; however, Fitzsimmons closed ground on the Wisconsin driver, and looked as he was going to retake the top spot. That was not to be today, however, Larry Fitzsimmons blew his engine entering turn one bringing out the caution flag. A driver working her way through the field was Pocahontas, IL driver, Trista Stevenson. Stevenson, and eighteen year old driver that was fresh off her win at Nashville, was looking to be the first female to visit victory lane. Just pass the halfway point of the race, Stevenson started to put heavy pressure on the truck of John Wood. On lap-32, Stevenson cleared Wood with an inside pass exiting turn two. Following Stevenson was the truck of Jerry Wood. Wood then set his sights on Stevenson reeling her in. Once Jerry Wood cut into Stevenson’s lead, the young Illinois driver slammed the door. With two laps remaining, Jerry Wood pulled up to the inside of Stevenson, and it appeared it would be a side-by-side finish. However, Wood was slightly picked by a lapped truck. Hence, this allowed Stevenson the opportunity to pull out to a comfortable lead and take home the top prize. Following Trista Stevenson to the line was Jerry Wood with John Wood coming home in the third position. Janesville, WI driver drove his truck to fourth, with Hicory Flat, MS driver taking home the fifth prize. Gary Cerny and Larry Fitzsimmons took home heat wins.

Culver’s of Marshfield Super Late Models exhibited another top show for the Fall Spectacular crowd. Pole sitter Jeff Weinfurter, fresh off a heat win, grabbed the early lead. Marshfield, WI driver Dean LaPointe quickly moved into the second position. It was Weinfurter, LaPointe, and Tim Rothe, one, two, and three respectively throughout the first third of the race. Two laps later, Rothe cleared the machine of LaPointe and was looking to close on a very fast Weinfurter. Looking to get his first feature win of the year, and appearing to be the fastest car on the track, Jay VanDerGeest closed rapidly on the top two drivers. With six laps to go, lap traffic appeared to possibly play apart in the finish of this exciting feature event. Two lap cars raced side-by-side for two laps and did not heed the attention of starter Patrick Barrett. The two cars then collected each other in front of a very fast field of cars. Unfortunately, Tim Rothe and fast qualifier Jay VanDerGeest were collected in the incident ending their evenings. Once the green flag was shown to the driver once again, it was Chris Weinkauf in the runner-up spot. Weinkauf, who calls Merrill, WI home, closed on Weinfurter and stuck his nose on the inside of Weinfurter several times. However, the veteran Wisconsin Rapids, WI driver slammed the door. Weinfurter motored to another victory, here tonight, at Marshfield Motor Speedway. Chris Weinkauf drove home second with Iowa driver, Kenny Reiser finishing third. Rounding out the top five spots was Dean LaPointe and Jason Weinkauf.
Heat winners today in the SLM division were Tim Hintz and Jeff Weinfurter.

Pure Stocks were back in action here tonight and put on another spectacular show. Cale Marzofka led the group of cars to the start of their Fall Spectacular feature event. John Vanstedun moved pass Marzofka and led the first few laps. Heat winner Ryan Mork motored my Vanstedun and led the next few laps. Mork, who was due for a win, now had to deal with one of the hottest Pure Stock drivers in the state, Kyle Gennett. Gennett wasn’t about to stay in the runner up position for long. The Rangeline, WI driver move pass the fast car of Mork to gain the top spot. Another driver that has made significant strides this year, and looking to move to the front, was Jake Capek. Capek, who lives in Nekoosa, WI, drove pass Mork on lap six. In the end however, it was all Kyle Gennett as he cruised to another feature win here tonight. Jake Capek came home in second with a very impressive run. Rounding out the top five were Ryan Mork, Mike Kasperek, and Ben Capek.

Our entry-level division here at Marshfield Motor Speedway would be the Junkyard Warriors. Tonight, the Junkyard Warriors put on another great night of racing. In heat action, Sam Sudduth and Tim Anderson ran door-handle to door-handle every lap. Anderson escaped with the win in a photo finish. Setting up for a great feature, the two drivers did the same thing in their feature race, side-by-side racing throughout the feature event.  In the end, it was once again track champion Tim Anderson coming home with the win. Sam Sudduth, Christine Schmude and Nick Greuel were your top four drivers.

Skylar Holzhausen Visits Victory Lane In WCS Finale!

Nekoosa, WI driver Tim Hintz led the 26-car field to the green in the WCS Championship 80 Super Late Model feature event. Neil Knoblock pulled out to the early lead with Hintz and Andrew Morrissey closely running second and third. Two laps later, Morrissey and Knoblock battled side by side for the top spot. Exiting turn four on lap 5, Morrissey and Knoblock got together causing damage to both cars. Knoblock eventually had to pull into the pits because the received damage on the Knoblock car was too severe to continue. Morrissey on the other hand, was able to continue. Morrissey held the top spot and appeared to have the car to beat. However, damage from the earlier incident with Neil Knoblock proved to be costly. The Southern Wisconsin driver had a broken fender, of which was rubbing on his right front fender. With each lap, the smoke began to get even worse from the damaged Morrissey racecar. With the tire smoke increasingly thickening, drivers to the rear of Morrissey were having issues with visibility. Furthermore, being a safety issue for Andrew Morrissey and the rest of the field, starter Patrick Barrett had no choice but to throw the black flag for the gentleman driver who was leading the race. On the restart, it appeared that the young driver from Bangor, WI had the car to beat. Being able to race in both grooves proved advantageous for Skylar Holzhausen. Once Holzhausen got the lead, his only thought was if his competitor’s cars were as good as his. Driver Mark Eswein appeared to have one of those cars; the veteran driver, who calls Wisconsin Rapids, WI home, seems to relish winning track championships. Mr. Eswein added another championship to his resume as he won the track championship at Golden Sands Speedway. On this day, all Mark Eswein had to do was stay in front of Chris Weinkauf and Steve Holzhausen, and the championship was his. As did Skylar Holzhausen, Mark Eswein was also able to pass cars through either groove, allowing himself the opportunity to put his machine into the runner up position. A few laps later, caution would fly once again as Jim Duchow got into the machine of Elliott Weiler on the backstretch. Once the green flew on the restart, it was for the last time as the final 58 laps ran caution free. As drivers jockeyed for position, it appeared the inside was the groove of choice. It appeared that there were only a handful of cars that actually could pass on the inside, or, race in either groove competitively. Steve Holzhausen, Tim Schendel, and Jason Weinkauf worked their way into the top five by lap 47. As the race progressed, Skylar Holzhausen continued to hold his lead on Mark Eswein, as both drivers appeared to have equally prepared cars. Once the white flag flew, there was no change in the running order. Skylar Holzhausen captured his first WCS feature win much to the delight of the Marshfield Motor Speedway fans! Placing second was Mark Eswein; by positioning himself in front of Chris Weinkauf and Steve Holzhausen, allows Mark Eswein the opportunity to call himself the 2009 Wisconsin Challenge Series Champion! Finishing strong in the third position was Bangor’s Steve Holzhausen. Being interviewed by track announcer Michael Barrett after the race, Steve Holzhausen commented that the only way he would have been able to pass his son for the win would have been to unplug one of his plug wires! Having an impressive run and finishing fourth was Sparta, WI driver Tim Schendel. Winding out the top five was 2009 Marshfield Motor Speedway track champion, Jason Weinkauf.

In the D & D Amusement Games CWSSA feature event, Nekoosa’s Ben Capek led a very competitive group of drivers to the line for their 25-lap main event. Marv Flick, who calls Stevens Point, WI home, jumped out to the early lead. Closely behind Flick were Matt Pyburn and Matt Raykowski. Reffner, who was crowned track champion one week earlier, appeared to be on a rail. Starting twelfth, Reffner worked himself into the third position by lap eight. Two laps later, Reffner made the pass of Flick for the top spot. Brian Back, who also started deep in the field, also had a very good car. Back, who reigns from Vesper, WI, positioned himself in the runner up position on lap eleven. Rick Grunden made some nice passes of his counterparts and looked to be hooked up and ready to better his position even more. Grunden appeared to be better as the race progressed and looked better on the long runs. Brian Back made every attempt to cut into the lead of Colin Reffner, however, Reffner was too much today and cruised to his first Fall Spectacular Feature win! Brian Back, Rick Grunden, Matt Pyburn, and Matt Raykowski rounded out the top five.  Heat winners today were Jason Dummer and Erin Schlough.

The 4-Cylinders once again took to the half-mile paved oval and had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Jumping out to the early lead from his fifth starting position was Neillsville, WI driver Ron Sischo. Sischo looked very fast early as he paced the field of 14 cars. Also moving up quickly was Jeremiah Strauss passing cars inside and outside. Unfortunately for the Neillsville, WI driver, he had to exit the race early for transmission problems. Starting tenth and moving to the second position by lap seven was track champion Randall Wilhorn. Wilhorn also had some car issues, fading and costing him a chance at the Fall Spectacular feature event. Stealing the lead from Sischo was the brightly painted orange car of Bo Bennish. Bennish would lead the next five laps. On the move and looking for his first 4-Cylinder feature of the win of the year, was Greenwood, WI driver Erin Schlough. Schlough got some good bite off corner two and shot to the inside of Bennish. By the time the two drivers got to the third turn, Schlough was able to clear Bennish for the top spot. As other drivers battled for position, Schlough built up a nice lead. Two drivers on the move and looking to knock Schlough out of the top spot however, was that of the Gilman, WI father/son combo of Steve and Derk Hauser. Working their way from the back of the field to the second and third place positions was very impressive. Another driver that looked impressive was Austin Stump. Stump, who calls Willard, WI home, spun early and worked back to the fourth position by lap 18. In the end however, it was Erin Schlough crossing the line first and winning the Fall Spectacular feature event. Steve Hauser and Derk Hauser finished second and third respectively. Rounding out the top five was Austin Stump and Phil Malouf. Heat winners today were Bo Bennish and Derk Hauser.

Next Saturday, Marshfield Motor Speedway will be hosting the third leg of the Eve of Devastation. There are many exciting events with the fan gates opening at 3:00 pm, and the show beginning at 4:00 pm. Fireworks will conclude the evening full of family fun!
