We are about to embark on year 7 of homeschooling. My second round of high school. You would think I could write a book about this subject. Alas, I am still a work in progress. Tweaking the plan, even mid year, to make it work for us.
Life is too short to be distraught over classes. That said, if you have a college bound child, even local community college, you will want to keep records. Even if your state doesn’t require it. If you don’t, you may or may not find yourself scrambling when that child you thought wasn’t going to go decides to. Ask me how I know.

So this round of high school I am writing down the classes taken as we take them so I don’t have to wrack this old brain trying to remember. Idaho doesn’t require any testing or paperwork. I will have a Freshman and a Jun….Jun…. ahem….Junior who is dual enrolling to get a head start on her AA in Theater.

Yes. I know I have said your homeschooler doesn’t need to go to college.
With my first two children this was the case. They went the vocational route as a Wildland Firefighter and a CNA. Did you know, for financial day purposes, your child has to use your income until they are 24, whether you support them financially or not. This is another post all on its own.

This second round are college bound. Theater and Gamer….yes there is college for the Gamer.
Theater degree will be our local North Idaho College. Gamer will be in Redmond and DigiPen.edu unless he can doit online. When we were researching colleges and came across DigiPen he saw pictures and said “Those are my people, I must go.” It was quite hilarious.

Here’s the plan:
Summer 2013 because we school year round
Finish Teaching Textbooks math
Ecology
Medieval history (this is for fun since we have done States and Govt. for over a year)
Spelling City for grammar and spelling
Live Budget class on Currclick

2013-14 School Year
Next level of Teaching Textbooks
Apologia Biology (possible online class via Currclick)
Economics 101 with Founder’s Academy via Currclick
Patriot History also with Founder’s Academy via Currclick
Spelling City (grammar and spelling are important to me)
Movies as Literature~ have to look into this more, not a definite.
Fiddler on the Roof for local children’s theater

This summer is a bit different. Since my post 2 years ago about boredom busters I am on my second round of teenagers in the country. Not quite as easily entertained and a tad too far out in the country to find a job, even though, in Idaho, they can both legally work.
We do school year round, but we still want to get outside and get some natural Vitamin D.

Here is my list of ideas of frugal summer fun.

Going to the river to swim
Our favorite swimming hole is called the Mudhole….Yes, the Mudhole…It is more clay than mud. Which, that clay brings hours of entertainment… you have to ‘dive’ down to get the clay to mold and let dry in the sun.

Painting rocks
Qe have an abundance of rocks on our property, so once in awhile we will grab a few of different sizes and just paint them. I need to find a way for the paint not to wash off in the rain though.

Trampoline and a Sprinkler
Kind of like having your own spray pad.
Sleep on the trampoline if it doesn’t get below 50 at night they sleep out there…on the trampoline…no tent….and no bugs either thankfully.
Stargazing is a great way to pass the time, especially on trampoline night.

Float the River
We’ve lived near 2 rivers for 10 years and have yet to float them.
We will float them this summer.

Keep a Memory Box
Keep something from all of your summer adventures. A rock. Or ticket stub for example.

Movie Day
If it’s too hot to go outside have a stay in day…get a bunch of movies from the library and pop some popcorn. To make it even better….plan ahead and request the have-to-see movies.

$1 Summer Movies
Regal Theater listing

Go Bowling
Free Bowling Our bowling alley in Coeur d Alene isn’t participating, but there are 2 in Spokane that are.

Volunteer
This summer we are volunteering at our church’s coffee shop.

I try to keep my ideas frugal. With where we live, the price of gas to go anywhere is always on the forefront of my mind. We do tend to get cabin fever if we stay home too many days in a row.

Do you have favorite Summer Boredom Busters?

Spring is like New Year’s for me.

The sun is out.

The snow is gone.

Dust bunnies cleared from my head.

I find it to be a great time to reset my routine.

I am doing Paleo to reset how my body works and feels.

I am doing Hello Mornings to reset my days.

I am doing Hello Exercise to reset my lack of energy. This also is in line with my Paleo.

All of these things work together. If my mind is clear I can exercise. If I exercise I feel better. I eat better. I feel more connected to Him.
In the end that is what is most important.

Proverbs 31:17(ESV)

17 She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong.

Do you feel a need to reset in spring? What do you do?

The Principal and the kids built me a Greenhouse.

This is homeschooling at it’s finest.
Math.
PE
Quality time. Ok this isn’t a class, but still good for the soul.

They remembered what the plumb line was from seeing it at Mount Rushmore.

Even Samantha the Wonder Dog helped.

Here is the inside after it was finished. Of course, this year, spring came very early and I didn’t need it. BUT, I am hoping this extend’s my growing season, at the end at least.

The Principal put it next to my compost pile.
Which, after I left the front off of that first section, is hardly there because my chickens had a hay day in it. Oh well. Happy chickens equals yummy eggs.

Do you have a green house?

Song.
Not always the same Song that undoes me.
Sometimes it’s David Crowder….Oh How He Loves Me….
Sometimes it’s Matt Redman 10,000 Reasons….

I feel closer to you with a Song then any other time….even more that reading your words….
If I hear them I feel them. Truly feel them in my soul….

A Song deep down in my soul and I feel like you are next to me.
You speak to me through Song.
