FIQH MUSAFIR 2010

On the 9th October 2010, ICE CIRCLE had organised a program which was called " A Muslim Journey in UK". This activity was designed to give freedom to juniors to ask any questions regarding ways of living in the UK. The activity started at 9am and ended at 2m. We also invited a guest speaker, Dr. Azlisham Md Nor who works as neurologist in Derriford Hospital to give a talk about our purpose in life as a Muslim. The event was a success and everybody enjoyed the whole program especially during the sharing session. Hopefully, the programme can be continued in the future with more improvement.

Exchange of Portfolios 2010

On the 20th October 2010, all members of Malaysian Association of Marjon (MAM) which includes students of COHORT 5, MARJON 1 and MARJON 2, had gathered to witness the exchange of portfolios between MAM Officers 2009/10 and MAM Officers 2010/11.

The former President of MAM, Mr. Hafiz Abdullah had given the newly elected MAM Officers some words of advice before handing over all the portfolios.

Now, officially MAM is under a new set of committee who has pledged to continue introducing Malaysian cultures and attractions, and to make it a platform to bring Malaysians and local people together, as well as uniting all the members to become 1 Marjon.

After the ceremony, the new committee of MAM held a dialogue session with MARJON 2 where they discussed every enquirers that MARJON 2 had upon the system of MAM and the university

Arrival of New Students

On the 18th September 2010, new students of Cycle 3 Cohort 2 from IPG Kampus Kota Bharu and IPG Kampus Gaya had safely arrived in MARJON. They arrived in London that morning and reached Plymouth around noon. They were welcomed by seniors with open arms. Even though, some of them faced a few bumps in reaching UK, all 50 of them managed to arrive safely here to pursue their studies to be great teachers in the future. On the night of the 18th itself, MAM organized a small gathering to properly welcome them to our family of MARJON. Thanks to all who volunteered in making the new students' arrival run smoothly. And to all juniors, i hope you have a lovely stay in MARJON.

Eid ul-Fitr - Forgive and Forget

Eid means festivity in Arabic and Fitr means breaking of the fast and so Eid ul-Fitr symbolizes the breaking of the fasting period. It marks the end of a month fasting and it is the beginning of Syawal where muslims around the world celebrate it with joy and forgiveness. Throughout Syawal as well, muslims will usually visit their relatives and held 'open houses'. Friends, colleagues and neighbours are invited to partake in the festivities and delicious treats, regardless of their race and background.

Diwali - Let There be Light!

Diwali which is derived from Sanskrit means 'rows of light'. It is a very exciting and colourful event. Homes are cleaned to welcome the New Year and windows are opened so that the Hindu goddess of wealth, Lakshmi, can enter. It is believed that she cannot enter a house which is not lit up, so every household burns special Diwali clay lamps (diyas) to light the way for the goddess, which is why the event is also known as the Festival of Lights.

Eid ul-Fitr and Diwali are 10 of the biggest festivals celebrated in Malaysia. And this year, the Malaysian MARJON students wish to bring the heat of the celebration to the wet and windy Plymouth. On the 18th October 2009, an open house was held from noon till 3pm, where Malaysians across Plymouth, other international students and locals partake in the celebrations. To heat up the festivities, colourful traditional cultural outfits were worn on that day and special dishes like Nasi Beriyani, Nasi Hujan Panas, Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, Soto and a whole lot more were served on that day.

Fiqh Musafir

Fiqh Musafir is an event specially organised for the new juniors. The objective is to enlighten the new students on how to perform the teachings of Islam in foreign countries. It is also to equip them with the skills needed to survive abroad. Basiccally, this event is to ensure their well-being as and how to cope with their everyday life as Muslim students in UK.

Open House! Open House!

It is undeniable that there were not many students left in MARJON during Eid day, as most of them either going back to Malaysia or going for tour elsewhere. But, that does not mean we cannot celebrate it the Malaysian way!. Open house events were organized by few Malaysian Houses in Marjon Student Village. From the very first day of Hari Raya, till the new students came, open house is still going on. Dissertation, Lesson Presentation and other assignments does not seem to bother us from celebrating Hari Raya and strengthen our relationship.

We from MAM would like to use this opportunity to say our thank you and appreciation to the members of houses below for organizing open house event, and made the celebration millions away from home still meaningful.

New Students Arrival

27^th September 2009 will be one of the most unforgettable days for Malaysian Marjon. It was a day when the new 49 Malaysian students from IPGM Campus Gaya and Campus Kota Bharu arrived at MARJON. This mean, our family is now bigger! (and they might need to change our accommodation name from “Student Village” to “Malaysian Village”).

Few representative from MAM, together with Michelle Charlick, one of the officer at International Education Centre went to pick them at the Heathrow Airport on 27^th September.

They arrived at Marjon around 12.45pm, and the seniors were busy in order to make sure they settled down well in MARJON.

On 27^th Night, MAM organized a small Welcome Dinner for the new students

. This Welcome Dinner was intended for the old and the new students to get know each other. The new students were also introduced to MAM officers, and the President also briefed them about their induction week.

Thank you to all seniors and MAM officers, for helping in with the junior arrival. Thank you also to seniors who have involved in preparing food for Welcome Dinner and to all other seniors who have given help and support in order to make sure our new family members are settled down well.

We hope that as our family is bigger now, our bond will also grow stronger!.

On 16th July 2009, the new Marjon Malaysian Association committee was selected.

President : Hafiz Abdullah
Deputy President : Azar Syafiq

For practical reasons, members gave the new President and Deputy President power to select and organised the rest of the committee members, then present to other members.

Below is the selected committee as suggested by the President and Deputy President, and also has been aggreed by other members of MAM.

"the festival is bigger than ever"

Here it comes! Marjon MFest 2009 is bigger than ever! Started as Malaysian Night, this event has always been successfully held in the UCP Marjon, Plymouth each year. Our aim is to bridge a gap between the Western and Eastern culture, while trying to let people know more about this little country Malaysia. Each year we improvise, and each year we try to get more people participating in this wonderful event. To sum up, this festival rocks! In the morning, the festival took place in Marjon Sports Hall, as it was raining outside and we could not set up at the same place like previous year. Still, it did not blocks people from coming to the festival. People enjoys Malaysian foods sold and also Malaysian games and blab la bla. There are also two performances were at kskajks jahsjak between the Western and Eastern culture, while trying to let people know more about this little country Malaysia.
